Oh...do you think it's okay to use size 3 yarn? I have a few skeins of "Mandala" yarn I purchased too many of. Need to use it. AND I need a larger size so you think a 3.74mm hook is ok? I'm a loose crocheter but not as loose as you get yours. Oh well, I guess I can just try it and see. Beautiful thing about crochet is you can just undo your work and your supply is still as it was.

Loving your attitude Donna!!! You are right!!! Just try it and let me know...my most beautiful creations were " frogged" and refrogged" and eventually made me so proud

I have started one with Mandala and a 3.50 mm hook and it is looking great so far. I did a round of all dc before starting the first round of the actual pattern. The bottom is measuring 21.5-22 inches across at this point and it fits comfortably around my waist... I usually wear an xl-2x in tops. Also, I tend to crochet tightly! Hoping and praying that it fits when I am done!

I started one too with the lion brand mandala yarn and a size 3.5mm hook mine is more like a 3x. My guage is 18dc x 8 rows =4 inches. 😊

How did this turn out for you? I'm interested in a size 16 top. I also have mandala yarn to use up. Thank you for trying this.

Curious to see how things worked out for the brave ones here! I also have Mandala it would be fun to use, but I'm one of the smaller sizes. A little worried it will work up too big if I'm not careful. TIA for any replies! :)

I just found your videos. Well, I just got back into my crochet phase lol. I am a size XL so I am going to use larger yarn and hook. I am a skull nut lol. I love everything to do with skulls myself. I have to make this. I just ordered my yarn and should be able to start this in 6 business days. I have added you to my facebook friends list so I will definitely show you my progress once I start. I also bought some yarn to make a skull shawl that Fiber Spider but a tutorial out for. It is also a multiple part video tutorial. I really can't wait to start this. I am going to use Lily Sugar 'n Cream cone yarn in the color of Potpourri which is a worsted weight of 4 and I probably would use the hook size listed on the yarn for it but I will see if I have to frog it out and use a smaller hook as I go we will see.

The only good thing about being bigger, left handed, blonde, and dyslexic while being a self taught crochet hooker; is knowing how to see patterns in my head. Thus being able to eyeball size adjust. I am also trying this tunic length so wish me luck. I am using Shall in a ball prism size 4 yarn with a 3.75 hook . 3 skeins. I am 5'9 a US size 16 w. I am just starting today... I will follow up a year from now (lol) when done. :)

still no reply about making without skulls? I would love to know also. Maybe we need to count how many stitches make the skull and then just continue in pattern to equal that amount of stitches.

Hi Annoo, I have a question to confirm something. I am making a size small top and just finished my 3rd row of skulls, getting ready to start on the front, no longer in the round. I have 7 sets of 3dc to each side of my skulls on the right and left. Am I understanding correctly that the stitch marker on the right will be put in the ch2 space to the right after 4 sets of 3dc on the right and in the ch2 space to the left of 3 sets of 3dc on the left?I'm getting really excited to finish so I can wear it!
    Thank you!Kate

I am making this again. Only this time I am using superfine fingering weight yarn size 1. Using Red Hearts It's a wrap in the colorway Documentary. Th last on I mad I did ith number 4 cotton from Yarnspirations. Sugar 'n Cream which made the sweater into a tunic so I did not add the sleeves to it. I use it as a swimsuit cover and I love it. I have someone else who wants me to make it for them with the same cotton for a swimsuit cover for them as well.

Such a beautiful pattern! Gunna give this a go for sure!
Just wondering why you had to edit in the word "row" in some instances? What did you say instead lol 😂

Is there a multiple that you used to change the size from small to medium. When you made the ones you showed in the beginning of the video. I don't know where to get the exact yarn you used what is the weight.

Hi Donna. I did a search of the exact yarn she used and I can tell you it is 100% virgin wool and the yarn weight is "sport." You can find this yarn online for around $6 to $7 per skein. I hope this helps you. If you look in the description box above, she gives a link to find substitute yarns. That may help you as well.

I am very confused. I work better from written patterns so I went to the written pattern first now watching the tutorial. Written pattern starts off "With your yarn and hook make a slip knot, ch 210, (245, 280). You will want to make sure your chain is not twisted, you will now sl st with the first ch." I am watching the tutorial and it is not following the written pattern. HELP!

Thats amazing. Do you think a skein of the katia rainbow you used for the vest would be enough for this?
