    (2) Can you explain how water chillers different with brine (minus degrees) chillers. Sir, you should also make a videos on minus degree chillers

    Great content, but a correction, the oil becomes low viscosity as it is heated, at low temperature oils have higher viscosity. For example water has a viscosity of around 1 centipoise, while table oils have viscosity in the dozens or hundreds of centipoises, while Tar has a viscosity in the billions.

    When the temperature of oil is increased it will have less viscosity rather than high . thats why we use heater in the sump unit. but ya have said the opposite. kindly remove that mistake.
    Thanks for making such videos . they are pretty helpful. thank you very much.🙏

    To take out refrigerant from oil sump one copper pipe is connected to the suction of the compressor. Since the suction in compressor occur at low pressure how the oil does not go along with refrigerant to the compressor ?

      Sounds like you have a leak! You need to check where it's going and make sure it doesn't get into the compressor

    LOL! I'm all answering questions on here. Sorry! I just love chiller work. But I hate cooling towers. That's why I always recommend air cooled RTAH's or RTAC's chillers, to avoid cooling tower headaches. I don't see the advantage of water cooled over air, in a critical environment. If city water gets cutoff you're screwed. *Maybe you know why some places prefer water cooled?* To me it seems like the energy used to pump the condenser water and run the tower fans kills the efficiency. Not to mention this application in a place (like Georgia, USA) that doesn't get cold enough to take advantage of free cooling through plate and frame heat exchangers.

    @5:20 , why the oil return from compressor thrust bearing was not returned back to Oil sump for pressurisation ?

    • @air-conditioningguruji7680
      @air-conditioningguruji7680 3 роки тому

      Because the oil coming from thrust bearing is connected to the dicharge line of the sump pump. As a result, the oil cools down very quickly and the oil goes back to thurst bearing

      Trane Centra-vacs 800 ton is 18 to 22 psi DP. I only know this because they're the chillers we have at my work. I would imagine it depends on pump size, oil type, bearing size, etc... Engineered calculations.

    Sir what is the common problem if the chiller alarm about , thrust bearing temperature high?? Thank you

    • @EngineeringMindset
      @EngineeringMindset  3 роки тому

      Depends on the chiller. If it's cooled by the refrigerant then there might be a blockage. It should give you an error code, you'll need to check this with the manufacturer.

      @@EngineeringMindset if I start up the chiller maybe 15 second it will trip and then I saw to monitor that error..i check already the sensor for the thrust bearing it is ok... do you think sir maybe the thrust bearing is the problem?? Or the compressor??

    Is there any chance that the oil gets mixed with the refrigerant and oil then circulates into the system with the refrigerant and probably, lower the efficiency ? Kindly illustrate that point and what will happen then..? Also, how to prevent it ?

    • @EngineeringMindset

      Yes, it can happen depending on the design.

      Oil viscosity decreases with increase in temperature. Cold oil is more viscous

  • @mzs9262
    @mzs9262 7 років тому

    liquids show a reduction in viscosity with increasing temperature. With high temperatures, viscosity increases in gases and decreases in liquids, the drag force will do the same.
    But in YOUR VIDEO you are saying that Cool lubricants have High Viscosity and if we heat them the viscosity become low

      The cooling lubricant is oil based and will decrease in viscosity with temperature. It behaves much like honey. If you put a jar of honey in the fridge it will thicken and will not run or flow easily, but if you warm it in the microwave it will flow much easier. Try it and see.
