Oh. You have some magic in you. You just (once again) caught in words something essential, which is so hard to get.. about Marko's voice (and whole presence).. i've been sensing it, feeling it,enjoying it, but couldn't put my finger right onto it.. you can see it in his cute smile after the greatest show in Tampere. and whilst doing the islander's start and here and in some currywurst comment in germany, and always, singing.. He's just so honest. True Human Being. Himself. Without any layers of pretending. And somewhat so soothing in it. And also like the call of a forefather. Or a warm hug from that. And. That honesty, imho, is the superpower of them all. Alone and together. ❤️
Marko and Floors take on it is just so warm, so emotive, it just has the ability to make me feel maybe all is well with the world - at least for five minutes
It was honestly not the technique for me but Luciano, Frank (Sinatra), Freddie Mercury and Floor are such HUMAN voices... It is a kind of Magic they have over us... And of course it is technique, and a lot of knowledge about singing, but I have that knowledge too, I have the technique but I am not that famous... I was just a whim in the air as a singer... I was lucky to have some succes along the road but what I want to say, humanity and deepness in feeling (understood by many) is the missing link... Floor is so loved because you get her humanity at once...
Pavarotti is obviously a magnificent singer but not immediately a voice that touches me. For myself I prefer Marko, he is pouring his soul out in total pureness, that does touch me. When Floor started I teared up after the first 2 words, her ‘clean’ sound goes straight to my soul. The Latin, more operatic part, is gorgeous but the English more loose part brings up more emotions. For yourself if you have a moment, also see the version I put on discord. Floor’s part is even more touching and you must see the end! ua-cam.com/video/ut6ufu2CPNg/v-deo.html Merry Christmas 🎄🤶🏻🎄
Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and José Carreras -I once saw them perform together with a Christmas concert including Ave Maria. If you can you have to go. But Nightwish... I want to go over and over again. And the chemistry between Marko and Floor is unique and wonderful. That is the beauty of it.
Growing up I had classical music in the background every evening. My father had spools of magnetic reel tape filled with music - they could play a long time. The reels came from computer reels on one of the main frame computers he used as an aerospace engineer. Once used, they would toss them and get new - so he spliced them and recorded album after album to reel. Opera was often the sound of the evening as my dad loved it - and was a HUGE Pavarotti fan. How can anyone not be a fan? He was even on the Muppet show. Now Floor is MY vocalist of choice... So darn good, technical, but with emotion... There is nothing she can't do. Marko is fantastic as well. He will be missed.
I remember the first time I heard Pavarotti...was in a music class in school. The teacher told us we were going to listen to an opera singer ...I was like really??? Two lines in and I was hooked by his voice. His look of total ease while singing was always so impressive to me. Same with Floor...while stylistically different ...same ease of singing. There’s discussion about why we see things as beautiful and a lot of it has to do with symmetry of the face and how features go together symmetrically in that manner. That’s how I HEAR Floor’s voice. There is something very symmetrical with the combo of pitch, timbre, resonance and control and it hits my ear/heart like no one I’ve ever heard before. Merry Christmas and again really enjoy your channel and breakdowns of these artists.

Beautiful, 3 different masters at telling the story, the emotions. One thing I am learning from you is that masterful singers like these all seem to do one thing, they are so relaxed through their face, jaw, etc. As Henk Port said, beautiful music is beautiful music, period.

Marko and Floor sing this so beautifully, have listened to other recordings of this and each one is just as beautiful. Only thing wrong is its too short!

Haven't heard Pavarotti before until now but holy shit. He is incredible, and I am in love with his voice. I love Marko and Floor's version as well. However, I will say that I still haven't heard Floor really sing in completely full sound all the way through on a song such as Ave Maria which I think would be amazing to see.
Wait -- What? You had not heard Pavarotti? To be clear, I lean strongly toward heavy metal, but I mean Pavarotti was like everywhere for many, many years. It was almost like you could not avoid him. So query: how did you? Not a criticism at all. There are many pop stars I have never heard of that my kids just shake their heads.
I feel a lot of (good) things about this whole video. Pavarotti is of course a legend, and while it is not really my kind of music, it fascinates me, how he sounds, how he goes into those notes (does that make sense? I'm not a singer.). It is really awesome. Marko and Floor sound wonderful together, with the stripped back instrumentation, Marko's soft tone. And Floor is simply magnificent. Also: I'm in love with the Finnish language. It sounds so beautiful. And I enjoy every song in Finnish that Nightwish (and Tarja) hands us. Tarja's first Christmas album from back in... I don't know 2006? is still what I listen to every Christmas. It has songs in English and in Finnish and her Version of Ave Maria - in German - is also truly beautiful. Have a wonderful Christmas everyone, stay safe and healthy!
Dovakhiin, this is awesome insight. Merry Christmas to you too! I think the impressiveness in Pavarotti is how facile the high notes are while still maintaining depth and power. The passion and versatility in Floor and Marko's performance is captivating in a different way. So awesome.
World class singers ♥️ there's another version of floor and Marco singing Ave Maria in 2019, I do like that one better (vocally) Marco takes a different approach, you may want to check that out. And he is barefoot standing next to Floor LOL
I like the version from Floor and Marco, honestly, i do not like the wide wobly opera vibrato. I know Pavarotti was a incredible singer, but it does not resonate with my subjective personal preference. That is the same as example with Tarja, she is a really good, and some songs and performane i like a lot, even more than Floors performance of the same song, and i love Floor's performance. What i don not like is the wobly vibrato that is mostly used in classical singing. And it's only a personal preference and i would never say he is better, or she is better. Luciano basically sets the bar so high it is almost impossible to reach. R.I.P. Personally I prefer Placido's vocal color and placement. It seems to be much more forwardly placed and yet maintain such great support. I think most casual opera fans such as myself feel much more emotional impact from the brighter tonality. Especially when it can be turned on and off it seems to emphasize an especially emotional phrase or lyrical section. It also gives that sound of crying out in emotional desperation. Don't get me wrong, The Big P is able to bring it forward, but still keeps that resonance from the back. Both are great! I love it!
Another back to back which would be good is Pavarotti and then Lords of the Trident/Britney Slayes (Unleash the Archers) doing Brindisi from Verdi’s La Traviata. Sooo much fun!
A beautiful song, this. It might seem easy when you look at the sheet music but it really is a beast of a song. (I don't sing, I play the trombone, and the windband I'm in have played this for many years at Xmas concerts) The long strophes (?) with long wulnerable notes with low dynamic (pianissimo sort of) Is what I struggle the most with. You know you've got to inhale enough air to last the whole strophe but even so, you don't get the air out in the pace your body would want so you end up feeling like you have an asthma attack... I imagine singing it is no picknick either...
Digression: "Ave Maria" is the song that concludes Disney's original "Fantasia". The animation is insipid compared to the rest of the film (despite the use of multiplane camera at the end), but Disney feared that ending the film with the powerful "Night on Bald Mountain" was too downbeat (not to mention terrifying). So they added the "Ave Maria".
Wish you would check out another Finnish metal singer, Jarkko Ahola. He also have done a recording of Ave Maria in Finnish. Edit. His Walking In The Air is beautiful also.
Tl;dr: Pavarotti expressed the lyric and song first as intended with feeling. Marco and Floor had more of personal expression and interpretation of feeling, with the lyrics/melody as a vessel. Pavarotti was it for me! Technically, he is at the top of the operatic singing (which is a specific set of techniques and systems of sinigng, that you can't just change for personal expressions sake). But beyond that he totally expresses the majestic and melancholic feeling of the song - the actual meaning - and I believe his emphases (dynamically, his selection of runs and so on) are appropriate to communicate what he is saying. I see the expression in his eyes and his eyebrows, his looks and how he looks down and up with feeling. I think he might have been Catholic as well, and if so, he really believed what he was saying. Also, because it's classical no mic, so he was projecting (and maintaining pure vowels) 100% throughout over the orchestra and choir even with dynamics. He was like an open channel to the continuous outpouring of sound. Floor and Marco had a more sentimental and conversational singing with the more modern singing style. They may not be expressing the lyrical meaning as precisely as Pavarotti did, not being Latin speakers (I believe) or believers. It was more of a blues-y version from Marco. Floor had a mix of styles, keeping more to the longer classical lines without modifying vowels as much. She also had these fast runs, reminiscent of some folksy ornamentation. Later she went more modern pop with breathy sections, audible breaths, belts, cries, tonal changes (which she does so well) and so on. She's very agile at those really high pitches when she does really light and her emotions float just above. She's gifted at that and that's where her emotion shines the most in her singing, for my ears. Most people who were raised with rock and other vocal expressions would just have a different expectation of what it means to express the lyrics. Audible breaths, breathy vocalizations, runs, vowel modifications. I grew up on R&B and Hip-hop myself, only turning on to rock in my teens (with Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life" being what caught my attention first), and more rock and some metal (specific melodic and symphonic) in the past few years. Classical / opera has been even more recent (I've heard of it but preferred just choral because of the harmonies) mainly due to vocal coaches explaining things and getting to understand the very high standard of training, musicianship and performance to be recognized and get to the top. I am also doing vocal training (not classical) with a Bel Canto soprano, so I am getting to try out some techniques and getting just a tip of the realization of the immense focus and devotion to excellence in technique required to incorporate that mindset. It's why singers like Marcela Bovio are so awesome and consistent.
Since 2012 I was performing solo and with my former band, made 7 albums, had 7 heart attacks while playing or just after a concert, had a light stroke once, so I did care about my audience... hahahaha.. If you loved Marco singing that I recommend this ua-cam.com/video/yKyg4m1qIOQ/v-deo.html (Raskasta Joulua 2019 | "Sparrow on Christmas Morning" by Marco Hietala (English lyrics)) two years later and man is it awesome to see. There really is no one like him.
I’ve seen a few clips of Pavarotti and pop/rock singers. Mostly I did not like it, with the exception of Pavarotti with Skin of Skunk Anansie (Floor is a fan of her). Their voices fitted together
An idea for a "back to back" analysis: Floor's 2020 rendition of "Alone" from her UA-cam channel vs. Floor's 2007 studio rendition of "Alone" with band After Forever.
I love Pavarotti so it feels odd saying this but his version compared to Marko and Floor seems to sterile. I feel much more emotion in Marko/Floors version. That being said, My favorite version of Ave Maria was actually from Cowboy Bebop sung by Jerzy Knetig. "We ask that you remain quiet during the performance" :D
Definitely. I hate the "you need to be quiet" in classical music. That only started around 1908... Before, classical concerts used to be just as fun as you could imagine! The impressive part about Pavarotti is how relaxed he can be while creating such a depth of tone. That's the signature operatic iconic sound. That is what makes it stylistic.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Pavarotti in many of his performances does bring tons of emotion. One of the best voices for sure and best opera voice in my option. BTW the "quiet during the performance" is a quote from that episode of cowboy bebop, not sure if you got the reference ;)
Why did he get a nearly blue tongue while singing? That was somewhat disturbing watching him sing xD But srsly, at the end, Marco and Floor. You can feel their love for each other. Look at how happy they are =)
I don’t get the interest in Floor, most good female singers can sing this....some better. I know she’s so popular among all the reactors out there, I’m not getting it. Pavarotti of course is fantastic in this kind of song, although I like the timbre of Placido Domingo better.
I'm not listening for recording quality. Try listening for the actual singing quality. In fact, this is one of the best examples of his singing out there.

Ah, Robert, this is so heartfelt. Thank you so much! I'll think about starting the patreon when I feel like this community is grounded. My goal now is to bring together as many heartfelt, intelligent, and passionate music lovers like yourself. I'm glad we can be on this journey together! You're so kind!
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Thank you... just so happy to find younger people like you to gather a community and get the history of music to get on, maybe even make history better. Modern music is boring. There is a reason you kids all look back. My parents hated punk, hard rock, Indie... I wished my 'kids' (I do not have) hated me for being a softie... but okay..
Question: Can you listen to any radio station for more then 15 minutes?
Please react to Floor's version of Puccini's "O'mio Babbino Caro"

Maria Callas - Ave Maria : ua-cam.com/video/j8KL63r9Zcw/v-deo.html 💕😍👌 I just love the ladies
And now this: ua-cam.com/video/Hbb8HwQuIso/v-deo.html Floor doing a solo version timed 3hrs ago. (14h09 CET)
Pavarotti is a whole other league... Of course. He makes me cry... Nostra douma (or how you spell it) breaks me every time.
But this one hits me in the feels... Bigtime ❤️
I'm gonna do another comparison with that aria! (with another metal singer to be undisclosed at this time)
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Yeey!! Can't wait 😘
Nessun dorma.
I don´t mind at all to mix it up. I listen during this time/season to VOCES8 or the National Bach Society and to Nightwish and Floor😀
Too bad you didn't wait a bit, because Floor just released a rock-cover of Ave Maria on her channel.
On the contrary, now we can just hear both!
The yelling drunks, tho. Security needed cattle prods and great big rubber ball gags. >:(
An idea for a "back to back" analysis: Floor's 2020 rendition of "Alone" from her UA-cam channel vs. Floor's 2007 studio rendition of "Alone" with band After Forever.
Both great but for me I prefer the version of Floor and Marko.
A duet between Floor and Pavarotti would have been quite an experience.
This... This is why we keep you here, James. This would have been brilliant!
Please check out Sancta Terra by epica simone simons and featuring floor.
And
stabat mater dolorosa again sung by floor and simone.
Sancta Terra reaction is on the channel already!
@@CharlieCalottaReacts i think I missed it. Awesome content. Please do check stabat mater dolorosa. Will await the upload. Have a nice day.
Pavarotti said Montserrat Caballe was dumbing down opera when she did Barcelona with Freddie Mercury. He then made Pavarotti and friends. Bu
hot take
Pavarotti probably changed his mind
There is another version of these two singing this as well as Marko singing with Tarja.
You could have not even said a word here because just your facial expressions said so much.
Indeed, the experience is more important than the definition we assign!
Why did he get a nearly blue tongue while singing? That was somewhat disturbing watching him sing xD
But srsly, at the end, Marco and Floor. You can feel their love for each other. Look at how happy they are =)
blue tongue??? Maybe the video quality
As much as i love Floor there was only one Pavarotti
....and Placido Domingo !
Yes! They all have amazing timbres and ability!
@dam0clez definitely more tonal variety with Floor!
She can sing me to sleep anytime
She can sing my shopping list any time.
I prefer Di Stefano above Pavarotti, he is better in conveylng emotions, like Floor
Di Stefano is great
both are great tenors
Nice nice, but dimash is superb...
Oh yeah? Who's that?
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Dimash a singer, search dimash ave maria and you will hear a part of ave maria in a song.
I don’t get the interest in Floor, most good female singers can sing this....some better. I know she’s so popular among all the reactors out there, I’m not getting it. Pavarotti of course is fantastic in this kind of song, although I like the timbre of Placido Domingo better.
I like Placid also. Never got into Pavarotti. I love the loving relationship between Floor and Marko.
@@christinaalgate4899 different here. pavarotti's voice sounds a lot better to me than domingos.
Pavarotti out of sync is horrible to watch, I came in too soon time and again... decided not to watch. That helped😀
You choose the worst version of Pavarotti man. There was an annoying sound because is old. There is a video much modern and in HD QUALITY
I'm not listening for recording quality. Try listening for the actual singing quality. In fact, this is one of the best examples of his singing out there.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts ua-cam.com/video/XpYGgtrMTYs/v-deo.html have you ever seen this version ?
