Thank you B & H. 51 minutes does not do this justice. Please have Ian back for another presentation. I am sure he has many more ideas and thoughts to share. Many thanks Ian for a very refreshing and insightful talk on the art of composition.
Great video! Ian is one of the few photographers who tries to teach his audience instead of advertising himself. His works are amazing and speak for themselves. I would like to see more of his presentation here.
Who would dislikes this very educated and inspiring video? I am no professional photographer but anybody that takes photography seriously would agree that composition is not easy to master. Thank you for this video.
The photo shown at 49:10 had my jaw - literally - dropped. Amazing that B&H can get someone *this* talented to make a video - thank you B&H, thank you!
Hi, to me this is the VERY BEST video I have ever seen regarding that topic from hundredth of them I watched. Difficult topic I must say! Ian Plant masters perfectly the subject and succeeds in finding a straight, simple, clear and super efficient way to deliver the very meaning of what landscape photographers are running after. Thank you very much for being that much understandable. You put words on some notions sometimes still a bit misty to me until today. You have been so really helpful to me that I already know I will be improving my shots' composition and storytelling next time I am in the field. Please, keep delivering us that high level of knowledge, I am already ready to listen to such of good quality pieces of advice. Many thanks!!!
Ian, extremely well done! Trying to explain composition and the elements behind it can be very difficult, and believe me I know, I have tried. You have managed to explain an artistic element of composition very effectively! Great Job - Rick
A treasure trove of photography tips. Thank you B&H for sponsoring this content. B&H has the best selection of camera equipment at very competitive prices.
Easily the best video about composition. Especially the visual anchors. Powerfull techniques very wonderfully explained. Thank you for publishing this presentation
Remarkable for him, Ian, not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk. He is a master composer indeed, and his images make sure up for a presentation style that may occasionally cling a bit too close to his bullet points.
I studied psychology in college and I've always been drawn to subjects like: visual perspective, visual illusions, emotional imagery, aesthetics, etc. Thank you for the interesting and informative presentation!
Great job Ian! I learned quite a bit from this presentation. It's nice to see you teach composition with the understanding the importance on structure, definition, perspectives, and there formulas, the way the Master did it. These lessons along with this fine art somehow got lost in translation with the insane craziness of the digital era. With the quality of point and shoot cameras, tablets, phablets, and smart phones getting better by the week in a fast paced world. These days who needs training really? Everyone wants to be you! All they need to do is save a months wages, buy a decent used camera that looks professional, a couple of used lenses, put it in program mode AF and point and shoot. Possibly, a TTL auto flash or one's built in, Along with inexpensive editing programs and a laptop and they're in business. No license required! Thank you for your lesson, looking forward to your book!
What an amazing presentation. Ian delivered what was promised in the title of the video a whole lot more. That bit at the end about a snap shot versus one's vision- pure genius.
Excellent video- One can instantly tell when a photographer 'gets it' because their photos show they understand composition better than most- Folks like Ian, Jack Dykinga, etc really emphasize composition, and turn what would be ordinary looking scenes into something that just has that little extra something- visual flow- Visual flow is the element missing in so many photographs that could really set the scenes apart- Some photos show great scenes but the right angles and compositional flow would really help them more- This is one of the best videos on composition- well done!
I've watched a few of these B&H presentations, and Ian has to be one of the better ones I've watched. Great pictures, and great way of explaining things in simple terms.
Excellent. Very well organized and instructive. You build your concepts in a logical, compounding manner that is easy to understand. Very effective teaching. Thank you!
I would like to hear a lot more from Ian - this is one my very favorite youTube videos and I have watched a few times. Excellent presentation on composition - the best I have ever watched
+Adrian Lopez Glad you liked it, Adrian! Check out this link: www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/tips-and-solutions/11-thoughts-introduction-photographic-composition
Masterful - great understanding and equally superb explanation - if one could think that couldn't be topped, the pictures were outstanding geez - what pictures!!!!
Well I know this was released back in 2015, but this is the first time I came across this video and it's an excellent presentation on the tools of composition.
My journey of photography started with my purchase of sony a6000 from B&H last year. It so cool to learn they offer many educational videos for photography. Thank you, B&H.
Thank you for this. I appreciate everything you guys do. It's been an immense help to get me started and I will continue to watch your new videos for further guidance!
Really enjoyed this presentation. I agree that sometimes people become too dogmatic in their thinking of composition. Rule of Thirds can help with generating good pictures, but it's a cure to an intrinsically bad design or bad concept.
Fantastic video, thank you so much, so very helpful. At least one substantive video on composition.... If I may ask--- I will soon be in Fez, Morocco, to shoot. photos,. You mentioned you knew of a guide there. Are you at liberty to share the coordinates of this person? thank you so much
Thank you B & H. 51 minutes does not do this justice. Please have Ian back for another presentation. I am sure he has many more ideas and thoughts to share.
Many thanks Ian for a very refreshing and insightful talk on the art of composition.
+Jay V I got that feeling as well, it ended with that feeling that Plant had a lot more to say on this subject! hope B&H brings him back soon.
Great video! Ian is one of the few photographers who tries to teach his audience instead of advertising himself. His works are amazing and speak for themselves.

probably the best and most informative video on composition on the internet. period. AWESOME! thanks Ian for sharing your knowledge
The photo shown at 49:10 had my jaw - literally - dropped. Amazing that B&H can get someone *this* talented to make a video - thank you B&H, thank you!
This is by far the best composition lecture on UA-cam.
That was really one of my favourite B&H Talks! Very good job.
+overTIMe Was thinking the same!
Best composition lesson on UA-cam for non-beginners.

Great lecture, no personal preamble to wade through, great communicator, exactly what I needed to view.
I've watched a few of these B&H presentations, and Ian has to be one of the better ones I've watched. Great pictures, and great way of explaining things in simple terms.

Such a beautiful class!
Really enjoyed this presentation.
I agree that sometimes people become too dogmatic in their thinking of composition. Rule of Thirds can help with generating good pictures, but it's a cure to an intrinsically bad design or bad concept.
"Rule of third":the expression date back to 1797, for a technique that is probably much much older.

Very interesting and informative presentation. Very useful concepts. Thanks!
