Back pressure is a myth. Exhaust scavenging is what you want. Engineering explained covered this awhile ago. I've proved this on the dyno as well. You will NOT lose torque if you cut out your muffler, resos, put free flowing piping, etc. It may move somewhere in the rpm, but it is not lost, nor does it do any harm. If there are no sensors, you don't need a tune.
@@2iBMX no engine needs back pressure in a car. The only reason the have mufflers and cats for noise laws and emissions, that's it. If back pressure was needed then you'd see top fuel dragsters with them, but they don't..
You don’t lose back pressure from a muffler delete lol the X pipe brings the back pressure, go to another shop Nd cut your mufflers cause seems like he won’t do it
I did mine on my wb scat 6 speed seems like I gained some on top end felt like I lost some torque sometimes my best 0-60 is 3.8 secs before the mod and 4.0 since I had it done lost deepness some but definitely louder and more fun after a year of it. Pipes will break in over time deepening going to do resonators this week😊
He is wrong. First, the rear "mufflers" aren't mufflers they are resonators, they change the tone so you're not getting drone where the mufflers in the middle reduce the volume. Also, backpressure comments are just completely incorrect. He might be a decent mechanic but he doesn't understand the way exhaust works.
With all due respect, this guy simply doesn't know what he's talking about. The whole "backpressure" argument is complete nonsense. Opening up your exhaust doesn't cost you in performance. Deleting the resonators and adding Super 10's increased my RT's torque and gave it a great throaty bite. Performance didn't suffer in the least. I'd guess he's telling gullible people this nonsense trying to sell them expensive catback systems.
@@mikekendrick4586 I deleted my resonators way back when, and didn't lose any torque. Since my last post, I deleted the Super 10's and added 12" Cherry Bombs at the very end of each pipe. @@ragingskeptic9753 I saw where you did the delete then added the super 10s. I myself loss torque in my 2016 challenger manual. After 4th hear it was sluggish
@@mikekendrick4586 Hmm. That's really odd, man. I just did a pull in mine, and when I left 3rd at 97 mph, it was still pulling hard. Are you running quality gas? Try adding octane booster? If you did a reso delete and freed up your exhaust, it should have made the mid-range a little stronger. Outside temperature also has a lot to do with it, and the car will be more sluggish when the air is hotter. Try putting your windows down and running the heater at full blast during a pull (make sure AC is not activated). Does performance improve? If so, outside ambient temperature is likely the culprit.
Oh hell no, even Americans are talking about that " back pressure " bullshit. No SIR mid muffler delete won't effect anything, meanwhile CATs delete yea u need to tune ur car to get the benefits.
Great explanation about how an engine works. However, if u ever saw the inside of these mid mufflers, you’d know they don’t create any additional back pressure. They are wide open on the inside. @@adamnelson7067 the way I look at it is this; ever see a race car or drag car running mufflers for back pressure purposes? No, they want as little back pressure as possible. The only back pressure you would need is provided by the catalytic converters anyways. It's not like a two stroke where it needs a tuned exhaust for scavenging effect.
This guy seems to have good intentions but it makes no difference. Won’t hurt the car. I’ve cut the mufflers off all 7 V8 trucks I’ve had and both of my camaros and had no issues. Many will say back pressure is a myth.
A vehicle is designed and operates similar to a human body.A mid muffler acts like an expansion chamber,so the exhaust gasses flow more efficiently. If you cut out your two lungs, and replace them with tubes, guess what, your not going to breath properly. If you do remove the mid mufflers, you replace them with a similar design, that keeps the purpose, but gives you a different tone.Same thing goes for intake tubing,if you remove the baffled tubing, and replace with straight tubing. The intake will be louder, but doing that can rob hp,the air is not flowing efficiently. All these mods, that I mentioned, are compliments to a bigger build with proper tuning.

If deleting your Mids, would hurt performance or damage your vehicle. Dodge wouldve already addressed this issue. By putting out some kind of statement saying “Deleting mid mufflers will cause loss in performance and possibly damage your vehicle and void your warranty”. And there are thousands of muffler shops across America doing this. And not one mechanic has ever told me. “ Hey pal, I gotta warn you I wouldn’t do this.” The Mids on these cars are basically a straight through design anyways. Cutting the Mids off does not affect performance, only sound. Your X-pipe should provide enough “back pressure”. But if you’re one of those OCD guys that wants it clean, drop 1200 on a Borla or Corsa for a nice clean look and that “distinctive brand sound”. But if you just want some extra sound cutting the Mids off for 100-200 dollars, won’t hurt you Bro. It seems like he didn’t want to do it, and was trying to sell you an aftermarket system that he had overstocked in the back. If you ever decide to sell the car or trade your car in, keep the factory mufflers and have them reinstalled. My Son has a 2020 Charger Scatpack WIdebody Smoke Show, with Mid delete. I personally myself, like the way the stock mufflers sound over the delete. I enjoy your content Bro, keep it up!👍

The "car exhaust needs back pressure" myth completely goes against how exhaust scavenging works to evacuate the combustion chamber. The higher the back pressure the lower the exhaust velocity. The lower the exhaust velocity the less vacuum is generated from the headers pulling spent air out of the chambers during valve overlap. I will agree that proper materials need to be used with good welding.

I deleted the mid muffler on my 21 scat here about a month ago and replaced it with the Dynomax Mini Race Bullets and I have noticed no loss in performance. I dont think the mid deletes will cost any low end power - on that I disagree with him. Having said that, cutting the mids off the scats wont improve your hp at all, either. It is purely a sound change. Nothing more. What I do agree with him, though, is that replacing the nicely built and high quality (and not restrictive either) oem mids with cheap parts… that cheapens the car. Have you ever heard of lambos and porsches or even m trim bmw owners “cutting their pipes”? Or replacing their high quality oem mufs with cheap loud ones? No. Why? Cos thats what ricers do. If you cant appreciate the car that you bought, then return it, dont cut and patch it. Thats for cheap hondas, done by cheap ricers. (Buying a fully built aftermarket catback, is another story, I am only talking about cheapening / cutting / patching your awesome car here). Do it proper, or keep it proper.
Yup..... just trying to tell people that don't do their research that they know what they're doing..... 4 STROKE ENGINES SHOULDN'T HAVE BACK PRESSURE!!!!! Legalities aside, I understand that you shouldn't cut out a cat, and your car is supposed to be quiet to comply with law. But the best exhaust for a 4 stroke engine, has ZERO restriction. You want back pressure in your car? Think you need it? Put a 2 stroke under the hood so that you're actually correct instead of thinking you are....
My widebody is catless, and striaght piped from the cats on. None of the factors he mentioned in this video happened to me. @@mikekendrick4586 I deleted my resonators way back when, and didn't lose any torque. Since my last post, I deleted the Super 10's and added 12" Cherry Bombs at the very end of each pipe. It is almost unbearably loud when you get on it (wouldn't have it any other way), and the mid-range is much stronger in 3rd-6th. This is the setup I should have had all along.

They say not to cut on N/A Motors they loose power. If it’s on boost/supercharged then that’s a diff story

Keep it factory is the best advice I can give you all these guys swear they know what they’re doing
I will agree that proper materials need to be used with good welding.
back pressure isn't real, it's about exhaust velocity. kek. removing mid mufflers (aka resonator) doesn't impact exhaust flow, but it does introduce drone. Resonators reduce nvh, mufflers reduce noise.

Back pressure wont matter if you cut your mid muffler because you already got two resonators by your exhaust tips.

Im a huge gearhead and have owned many high horsepower builds. If theres one thing I try and teach my buddies, it's to not make the same mistakes I have modifying my cars. The biggest is "back pressure". Throughout the years I have tried deleted cats, mid pipes, full through exhausts and I will be the first to say that this man is 1000% CORRECT WITH EVERY WORD. You will lose power down low, almost everytime, and to me the gains up high (if any) arent worth the extra noise. Not to mention feeling like a "13 year old boy buying bubblegum" 🤣
I agree 100% it won't matter in high RPM but it definably will hurt low RPM torque
While yes you can lose power in the low end from a free flowing exhaust. thats without a tune. as soon as you make corrections to the tune you WILL gain power with a free flowing exhaust. the main thing to go for when doing you exhaust is proper scavenging. Long tubes and an x-pipe is whats gonna make power, not a muffler for “back pressure”
I think this man...is not the expert you think he is..."whatever that thing is called"? Did he really say that?
It’s crazy cuz when I deleted the muffler and added an x pipe on my camaro I felt lighter and faster
dude tryin to pimp you for a 1500 exhaust, these cats have ZERO clue what there talking about, lol🤣 Ive had full straights for 3 years. GO TO A DIFFERENT SHOP, or let homeboy get u for his "custom" exhaust job w knock off magnaflos and is basically a stock muffler.
damn thats very informative....cut my pipes
Thanks for sharing this video. Very informative!!
If a top fuel dragster produces 8000HP with 20 inch open headers, how much HP could it make by welding the headers closed and maximizing back pressure?
After watching this video my take away was where'd he get that rear spoiler? All the rest was nonsense to me. 🤣
"Tuning" for muffler deletes🤣
