    I was last there in 1992. Management has sure changed. I cannot fathom how these tombs were constructed and decorated without power tools and artificial light. So much for the hope that the tombs would be forever hidden and unmolested.

    Keep in mind that all of these tombs were cut into solid rock with copper chisels and wooden mallets!

    21:34 The reason why Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s tomb isn’t nearly as decorated at the other ones is because it was *NOT* originally made for him. He died at 18-19 years old, so his actual tomb that was being built specifically for him wasn’t finished yet. So, in a rush, they had to throw him in a tomb most likely designed for someone of the ancient Egyptian Court. If they actually did finish his original tomb even after he died, his body would just be a skeleton with flakes of skin on it nowadays.

    I have never been to that part of the world. Understand the heat outside but inside you say it was hot which surprised me. I assumed it would be cooler down there. Is it possible that the movements of tourists walking in one direction fanning the heat from the opening towards the end?

    • @debdoestravel1627
      @debdoestravel1627  2 роки тому +1

      I had always imagined the tombs being cool at the bottom, like a cave here in the US. We arrived immediately after the valley opened, and there were very few people in each tomb. I don’t see how the heat was from movement of people; it is just different in the desert. HOT! I can’t imagine how hot it is during the summer months.

    As someone said on another video these tombs were not meant to be seen so why were they so decorated? Amazing really and dare I say out of this world

    • @Solanza

      Why do we bury people nowadays in very expensive and often partly decorated grave chests when we are just gonna bury them under the mud where nobody can see it and it'll decay away?

    • @mariak9806
      @mariak9806 2 роки тому

      from an undergraduate egyptologist: Egyptian tombs were meant to represent a microcosm of the Egyptian afterlife, so they were a space for the 'transformation' of the king to a divine spirit. Although not meant to be seen by mortals, they served as an eternal abode for the king hence the decoration :)
