The leader of my riding group recently got one and he let me ride it and I wish I never did because it ruined my bike(MT10) for me And probably every other bike I will ever own in the near future. I usually ride a different bike every year. I want to try them all! But I'm on season 3 of owning a 1290r because it's the most fun around town ripper I've ever owned. I can't bring myself to get rid of it, so I'm going to just add another to the arsenal.
    You don't know what you're missing until you ride one.

      Cool, does the tank bother you at all? If you get a chance do a 450 supermoto build, your mind will be blown.

    • @T3merity
      @T3merity 2 роки тому +17

      @@CycleCruza 450 supermoto vs superduke is an apples to oranges comparison. Yes the 450 has its own personality...it's light, versatile, pretty quick and very flickable...but the super duke has it's own personality, too, and it may be more to the liking of some people (or even the same person who is in a certain mood that day). The sheer power and torque of that bike is on a different level and provides a different kind of exhilaration that the 450 simply can't. I say own both if possible because both are great. It's hard to be satisfied with just one bike.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  2 роки тому +1

      @@T3merity You must never rode a 450 converted supermoto? They just hit much different than any street bike. I owned a 2017 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 factory that is on par with a KTM SDR, a little less torque but I will tell you the 2019+ YZ450FX supermoto has more raw violent feeling torque at the bottom of the RPM even with a 44 tooth rear sprocket,. Honestly, I don't miss the street bikes but I will get one because this supermoto is only supposed to be a dessert bike not a main bike.

    • @T3merity
      @T3merity 2 роки тому +2

      @@CycleCruza I have, actually...and I agree with you, a 450 super moto does have a very aggressive, raw power delivery. It's still different to a massive v-twin supernaked like the superduke, though. I suppose that I should have written a bit more because it isn't JUST about the power delivery, and the power delivery and overall feel of the bike is a nuanced thing. The Superduke is raw, but it also has refinement and performance of a street bike which any 450 obviously doesn't. The feeling is different...and just sitting on a bike like that...knowing that its capable of such high speeds in addition to the ability of comfortably cruising around town...it hits the soul differently. Like I said in my last post, both are great. I wouldn't want to choose between them because they each have their own personalities and I like them both. Some days I want to ride a supermoto, some days I want a naked, some days an adventure bike, etc etc. Its best to own one of each type.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  2 роки тому +1

      @@T3merity I don't doubt the SDR is a beast, but all production street motorcycles just lack the rawness a 450 dirtbike supermoto gives. It stirs my soul. However, I will say it is something about a Ducati's engine that stirs my soul but not to the level like my 450 supermoto. Idk just my preference, everybody is different.

    2020 SDR owner here, you’re missing out Cruza! The tank disappears when you’re riding, you don’t even notice it, but I think it integrates well with leg placement and riding angle. And the weight is not top heavy, it feels nicely balanced when you get going. I’ve owned nakeds, sport bikes and a Harley, this is the best bike I’ve owned. Of course it’s a premium bike, you’re going to pay for it. And I had no issue paying an extra grand for the tech pack, I considered it included with premium price tag.

  • @twowheelinspiration6259
    @twowheelinspiration6259 2 роки тому +15

    Going from your bike to nearly anything else that is more street or track focused is going to be a shock. I have a 2020 KTM SDR that I bought for $15K with 1500 miles on it. I now have 7K miles on it year later...this has turn out to be my go to bike.
    I would never upgrade to the new electronic suspension as they have never appealed to me as I like the manual set ups and adjustability. But, to each their own. I've owned a lot of bikes over my many years, (HD Fatbob, Ducati Multi, Multi Enduro, Tiger 1050, Speed Trip, Versa, KTM 990 SMT, Honda XR400, Yama YZ250). I've sold my other bikes and now down to the SDR, a 2019 SAR and a 2021 EXC-F 500. I would hate...hate to take the EXC on day long pavement rides...even with SM wheels and tires. If you think the SDR is top heavy, sit on the SAR. Now the EXC is a blast on back country roads or short runs into town, but my bike is built for BDR trips. 1290 bikes maybe heavy to sit on, but they are extremely agile and precise in almost every way. I love to flip the throttle and blast out of BS road/traffic at 80+ MPH. Nothing beats that IMO. So, no...I love the tank set up of all three generations of Dukes and I hope they keep the look and feel of sitting in the bike. The tank style is a trademark for the iconic Duke. I also like to have a few gallons of gas in between fill ups...unlike most off the floor dirt bikes converted to street with less than 2 gallons of gas..
    To make a video like this without even riding it is short sighted at best. Truthfully, to each their own and I'm glad all bikes are not cut out the same and appeal to different people. Enjoy your bike and ride safe.

    I’ll try selling the R1250R again: 105 ft lbs torque, just one less ft lb than that Super Duke R 1290; boxer engine means very low center-mass weight; immensely comfortable; no preying mantis look. Only downside is price.

  • @mktm1290
    @mktm1290 2 роки тому +1

    The superduke is not a supermoto for a start, it’s a super naked?, yeah maybe your supermoto might be a bit more fun round those tiny little roads you are on, but I guarantee you 9/10 people would choose a SDR over that bike you are riding if they was on the highway, track or going longer distances (the kind of riding most people do). Also when you are travelling at the kind of speeds a SDR is capable of (way way way above supermoto) you need to be secure in the bike, so having the tall thank and rear seat lock you in is a must. Lastly the centre of balance is just fine, bike was developed on track by an ex racer, I’m sure they know how to set up a bike

    Centre of gravity is low because the tank sits low, the raised tank is basically an air box with injector sprays. You need to ride the KTM Super Duke R and you will see that the weight is down low and it handles like a dream! You can’t have an opinion by just looking and sitting on the bike.
    Come on Cycle Cruza take it for a spin and then you can comment and I am telling you now it will not be the same as what you commentated ! FACT Trust me

    A light bike is great but I think you focus on weight too much. You have a light bike, keep it and get a bigger bike! I’ve ridden all kinds of bikes and my favorite is the ktm1090. It’s a ktm so I won’t buy it though lol. This is the same thing as gun guys complaining about a gun that’s 8 more ounces lol. You won’t notice it 99.9 percent of the time. Even if you rode an adv bike just on the street it’s awesome. Your Ducati was hella heavy lol. Ride safe bro.

    I own both a 690 smc and a 1290 superduke. Honestly, the superduke has ruined me for any other bike and that includes in the handling department.. Ride it like a big. Supermoto and it’ll blow your mind..! Way more stable and smoother on the edge of the tire compared to the nimble 690. Top heavy? I do not notice it at all.. That slap in the face of torque and how it screams toward the red line..! Ha! Never looking back...

      This comment sums up the 1290. People often complain about the weight of the bike but they've never actually twisted the throttle on one and experienced that rip of aggressive power. Not many bikes come close.

      2nd gear shifting, clutch popping power wheelies with no rear brake control. This is why he sold his MT-09(never wheelied once) and why he'll never try wheeling anything bigger than a dirt bike. No clutch or brake control. God forbid he buys a SD and can't wheelie it, what will all his new follower's think? Sounds stupid right? I'd put my left nut on it! False pride, also known as posing. Cycle Cruza I completely agree with you about top heavy bikes. My Suzuki DRZ400S is top heavy. I've made some mods (light weight lithium battery, lighter headlight faring, removed passenger pegs) to reduce the top Heaviness. But it's still top heavy. I may install a light weight exhaust. Top heavy bikes are actually dangerous. Top Heaviness acts like an upside down pendulum. If the front tire washes out on a top heavy bike, it will slam you into the ground with force. The DRZ400S top Heaviness may not be curable due to the the high ground clearance putting the motor at a high center of gravity.

    I recently bought a new 1290 SD-R but more recently traded it off for a 2022 MT10. The SDR was a FANTASTIC motorcycle. However the ergonomics were a bit weird, particularly the bars. And the switch gear was probably the worst I have ever experienced. And it did a weird thing, auto blipping the throttle at about 4,000 rpm during deceleration that was quite annoying. But all the big things were tits... power, brakes, suspension, handling.... Best dash I have ever seen / used. Sounded good, etc, etc. But for me, the MT10 is just a better bike. Bike and rider become one, as everything is just seamless. No constant little annoyances like with the KTM.

    SDR was never meant to be a supermoto. It is one of the only if not the only bespoke hypernaked bike out there. Every other hypernaked out there is just a less "faired" version of a superbike.
    I love my SDR EVO. I love my ZH2. And I loved my MT09 when I had it, each for their own reasons.
    The KTM SDR EVO is its own thing. If you're complaining about it being too top heavy then you have expectations based off other bikes that are nothing like it. You get the SDR for what it is and how it is, just like you get a dirtbike with street tires because it is its own thing with different qualities. I had someone look at my SDR EVO and they complained about "it's wheelbase being too long" yet they had never ridden the EVO. Same guy looked at my ZH2 and complained about it being too heavy, also never having ridden a ZH2! 🤷‍♂
    I also have a Grom and I dont complain that it is slow, vibrates and bottoms out easily. I like it for what it is and what it does.
    Unfortunately many manufacturers will eventually be doing the pay-to-play thing where you must pay extra to unlock the features. All we can do is enjoy what we have and can get now because later in the future the public will accept it and there will be no going back.
    Be safe out there.

    If you can get a test ride on the KTM, it might be much different than you think. I've owned a couple bikes that seemed very top heavy when sitting on them and not moving but when ridden at more than 5 miles per hour, they felt perfectly balanced. I agree with you on the price though, that's outrageous.

    How tall are you? Because I know that's a bike that fits taller riders the most.
    You should take a look at the 890r to spend less and have a similar level of fun on the streets.

    A lot of bikes that feel top heavy when they're not moving don't feel like it when you're riding. I ride a Multistrada. It's a heavy bike when you're pushing it around. The moment you're feet up and rolling just 5mph it's a kitten. The weight is concealed by the geometry and the balance. I think about buying different bikes, but I've had it for 7+ years now and I'm always happy with it when I'm riding it.

    Hey CC seems that maybe,,,,,,, you're getting "OLD"? Think about it. Me, my age, 59, I look at all of these newer type of M/C's, and I don't like 'em. I don't like they're looks. I've owned a newer> ('04 Yami FJR), big bike, powerful, great gas mileage, ABS braking.. yada, yada, yada. I've kept it for a year , put 1k miles, and then sold it and kept my '81 Yami XS1100H. It's air-cooled, (w/stock oil cooler) lots of power, (not as much as an FJR 95bhp=XS/FJR= 143bhp) but , I could load down that XS1100 with over 100lbs of gear on the luggage rack plus a big, Tank BAG (eclipse, same as back in the 80's)and if I put on my saddle bags, even more room to put STUFF. This old UJM is, (in MY OPINION) way, way better than ANY of the new(er) bikes that are made NOW A DAYS! So CC, maybe you might be getting old...

      😂I've owned a cbr600rr, cbr1000rr, Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factpry. Trust me, the wild bottom end grunt torque on this race dirt bike supermoto has never had me lusting for more power. Even with 44/13 gearing you just blip the throttle and it power wheelies. You should try one and then you'll understand. I'm not the only motovlogger saying this. Go look at other motovloggers that did 450 supermoto builds.

      Look CycleCruza I been a fan of the Chanel for a long time and all you do now it's complain about motorcycle and talk bad about them. The worst thing is that you've never ridden the motorcycle and you talk bad about it. You should get a real dirt bike like a ktm 300 xcw on the single track boy you will have some fun. 4 strokes motorcycle suck on the dirt. That's why you are not having fun on the trails. Also just buy a bike stop the bs

    Bro, these bikes you are talking about are not in the same universe in what they are. I had some fast expensive fine bikes and super bikes including 17 Tuono V4 1100 Fac and I do have 500EXCF for that matter. My 2020 Gen3 has 18000 miles now and it is the god damn benchmark for me for street riding. It handles impeccably for fast flowing riding and the engine is beyond great especially with Akra map and exhaust. I loved Tuono , but Gen 3 SDR is better without a doubt. You gotta ride it. But yeah big engine flagships will be more expensive.

    They are absolutely ripping people off on making people pay extra for the track pack and tech packs on their bikes.
    Electronically limiting features is a hard pass for me.
    They're trying to compete on a spec sheet with a price and features but not including the features in the price.
    Moto reviewers really need to start putting price as equipped as the only price they state in their comparison videos.

      I have owned a gen 2 and now i have a gen 3.
      The gen 2 was more upright riding position, the gen 3 is a bit more sporty, a more aggresive riding position, its more track oriented.
      I do a lot of track riding and for that its great fun.
      Someone in the comments said it has a bad turning ratio, thats far from the truth, it turns great.
