Hi Brook, for reference what size is the fuel tank, in gallons? And how did you notice the fuel tank was leaking in the first place? I was wondering what the symptoms were so that we can recognize if it's happening on our boat. Thank you.
Cost of owning a boat is not bad as long as it doesnt start breaking down lol. Other than that its just fuel, bait and food times how many time a month you go out lol. For me its about $400 a Month taking it out every week between june to sept and i have a 17 seapro lol.
how did they clean out tank area? pressure hosed? would've been nice to repaint area white again before the new tank was placed in? great repair and vid, thankyou from new zealand
Saltwater corrodes everything, even stuff that convention wisdom would think doesn't rust, and you can't keep it out of any compartment of the boat. Maybe it's water vapor. Even stuff I put in the console box which should be dry, stainless steel stuff, aluminum stuff, all starts corroding if I leave it in the boat a few months. Electrical connections corrode even if they're sealed and heat shrunk unless they're tinned. It's the harshest environment.
Hi really glad you made this video. I’m about to get a 49 or 50 year old Pennyan. It’s always been cared for and has already had the tank replaced just a couple years ago. If owner hadn’t taken such good care of it I would not even think about it. I remember the day he brought it home the first day. I looked it and now 40 some years later I can be the new caretaker:-) As you can tell I’m pretty happy about it. Moving to Florida next week and I don’t want to go with out a boat. I’m going to sell my HD springer because at 63 I feel I’m getting to old to go riding. Florida heat helps to make that decision much easier. Thank you for sharing your great videos, keep sharing I look forward to seeing them.
It looks to me that HMS did a great job of making repairs. One never really knows how degraded something is till it is removed and inspected. I would say that you all were piloting a hazardous boat and didn't realize the danger one was in. Thank goodness that you were persuaded to do the repairs. The Boat is in proper condition now and safe. I am happy to see that. That first fill up is going to bite a bit $$$. Safe boating and have a wonderful time fishing. Yes I am interested in knowing about the expense of boat ownership in Florida. It isn't cheap here where I live.
Looks like it's my turn now. I reached out to Andrew at HMS today. I had a very pleasant conversation. So nice that I am not even going to shop around. He will be the one to ultimately replace my tank. Presuming the tank is the culprit. I am 99% sure it's leaking.
I own a 2000 Edgewater 247 and unfortunately I'm starting to have to deal with the same problem. Thank you for giving the name of the tank manufacturer hopefully they will be able to make me a new tank.
New subscriber here. Great job on replacing the tank. The only thing I would of did differently is while u had the tank out before installing the new one I would of def painted it after doing the new fiberglass in thay area. Idk why u didn't but I would have. Other than that I love what u guys do on ur channel. And look forward to the upcoming videos. Anyways much love to yall from Maryland❤❤❤.
Please tell me something in a later video when you did the actual cost of the boat ownership over a period of time. Your dad made a statement that the insurance company helped cover the cost of the fuel tank replacement. Would you be able to divulge the name of the Insurance Company?
The reason the tank corroded was because the foam was against the tank.. I’m a big advocate for putting in flotation foam in boats but around the gas tank is bad. The holes in the compartment were for draining water that made it into the fuel tank compartment. Even with the thicker aluminum and the powder coating on the tank, the water will still get into the compartment and not be able to drain out and dry. The foam will get water logged then hold on to water against the tank and corrode it out quicker than last time
I'm a fisherman here in Hawaii and just seeing how easily your dad poked holes into the tank gave me chills. It's ok if your car breaks down in the middle of the road but extremely dangerous if your boat breaks down in the middle of the ocean. Glad to see you had the whole tank replaced rather than just patching it.
Yes I will be interested in learning how much it cost to own a boat and the requirements to do so. Nice video like always coming to you from Gainesville fl #Go_gators
A.J. Harris always throw money to have a boat!! If you don’t like spending money then don’t buy a boat I’ve owned 4 now and there is a love hate relationship
@@captofthe7279 you are right. I bought a boat four years now and it only went in the water two times since i bought it. I had a lot of engine problems. I am about to buy s new engine for $28000.00.
Your dad and your family have really gotten full use out of that boat. Replacement of a tank that's 17 years old is just considered general maintenance due to salt water corrosion over or in water. Yes for "Non-Boat" Owners. I would say a boat cost rate might be a great video. Single engine, dual engines or triples. = 5k, 10K, or up to 50K pending the HP. For every Mile per Hour over 60 MPH, the cost is 25K per mile in hour gained, That's only up to 100MPH, then it's astronomical cost. For boats under 47 feet.
I woke up today to fuel leaking into the bilge on my 02 EW 245cc. I hope the hms team is still available and can do the job. Although, they will need to cut the floor :(
Why the hell would you buy a tank from same company that built the original tank that didn't last? Makes no sense unless they paid you for the advertising? My boat fuel tank is 30 yrs old still going strong! No this not good video this is Fake advertising! Beware.
Noooo!!! Brooke, if you don't want to see a your Daddy cry, you *won't* make that "How much it costs to own a boat", video. A couple of hundred here and there is common place....its when you start totaling up all the receipts that he gets the far away look in his eyes... and then the tears start falling. Trust me on this one! ..just trying to help. 😆
"Get yer motor runnin', head out on the.... ocean". Well it doesn't really flow, but I'm sure you're anxious to get back out on the water. Now we get to see some more adventure videos.
You and Victor...need to start a podcast with all angles of marine experience talked about. Girl your a natural at explaining things in a calm and sincere manner☺
As a retired Coastie, thank you for doing the repair and doing it right. We don't give much thought to the little leaks and stuff here and there but it adds up with all the other boats and leaks. Everyone help keep out waterways clean, our fisheries preserved and most important of all things, Be Safe!
I wanted to thank y’all for the education on fishing down here. I’m used to doing a lot of trout fishing and not to much ocean fishing so thank y’all for that
I’d love to see a cost of owning a boat video. My husband and I actually want to purchase one and are doing research. These type of videos are icing on the cake. I love that yours and Viktor’s videos are both entertaining and educational. I’ve learned a lot from you two. Thank you for all that you do.💗
That silver cigarette boat that was in the back ground that said 1080HP on the side of it is Stu Jones’s!! He is the president of the Florida Powerboat Club! Yeah that poker run was the biggest one that FPC does, which is the Key West Poker Run and they do it right after FLIBS. But he did an amazing job on ur guys tank!! Looks very very good! Why don’t u guys get a lift for ur boat and get it up out of that salt water? There isn’t a chance in hell that I would leave my boat sitting in salt water 24/7/365!!
Enjoyed the video. Question: I watched the video about the accrued cost, only concerning the boat, but what would a new boat cost. I just dropped 48K for one. I’m the first owner. My boat isn’t fancy like yours. It’s for hunting and fishing. I’m in Arkansas. I have tow in insurance, never heard of that before, but for $1/month why not. Now I’m watching all these channels with you beautiful Florida girls going out 20 miles I understand the logic. But if you were to buy brand new what would be a ballpark figure on cost ,comparable to yours? Another thing I would never ask this type of question if your video hadn’t broached the topic. Again thanks for the very entertaining videos.
I know that had to be costly for sure. You could have saved the old tank and repaired for a lot less and got more use out of it. But one thing I would suggest is a wire from the tank going to a salt zinc and that is where the true pitting in the metal of boats comes from. There is other video that explains in more detail about zincs. Great video!
Nice vid! but Pls know that rubber strips should had not been used, rubber contains carbon, which is cathodic to aluminum and will cause galvanic corrosion also the rigging tubes appear not to have been properly secured and they're a bit short.
It's refreshing to see a boat shop actually do everything just right. Our shops around here suck ass. Guy even knew the density of the foam and that it was made just for installing fuel tanks.
Wish I knew you were back on the water ... I was in Ft. Lauderdale over the Holiday and me & the fam would have loved to stop by & say hello. Yes we did get out fishing 1 day and my boy caught 2 maks trolling ... weather was great. Glad to here you're back on the water!! Keep those videos coming.
That would be great a video on that topic Brook. Could y’all start out by the make, model, feet, ect and the original price of the boat? How much does the value on a boat goes up, down, or equal itself out over a certain amount of years? Thank y’all and happy holidays PS~ Congrats 🎊🍾🎉 on your engagement with Victor Brook.
I would love to see a cost of ownership video. I have always wanted a boat. I fish every weekend/day off, but I don't know anyone who has a boat this is willing to break down their costs with me to see if this is something financially viable for me. All I have been told is Bail Out Another Thousand
It fits like it was made to go there. It's good that you fixed it. Little leaks result in big fires not even considering the pollution that leaks create. I know, this was three years ago. Happy New Year!
Thing is thentank has a level reader (connects to fuel gauge) and the gauge is grounded to the tank sooo u have current running thru the tank as well with the salt water u have electrolysis going on with bare aluminum
All ways best to be cautious. My daughter saw a boat on fire a couple months ago off the coast of Mississippi and called the Coast Guard Everyone got off but could have been bad. Stay safe. I like your channel
Great show, very informative. Good work by the crew. Thanks for their contact info. Favorite part of the show is seeing your wonderful relationship with your Dad... looking forward to viewing more of your shows. Blessings
My compliments again. I never thought about finding a fuel tank interesting, but I watched the whole video. It was also interesting to learn the age of the boat. Talk about getting good use out of something! Your conservation extends beyond eating all of the fish you catch. With your increasing fame, perhaps you can buy a new boat.
I have been fishing sense i was a little kid. Love all your videos good wishes from Mount Dora FL and please make the video about the cost of owning a boat I only have a 14 ft aluminum Jon Boat. Thinking about an upgrade.
Brook give your Father a huge for me,, he did a great job raising you. you remind me soo much of my Daughter, she can handle any boat and loves fishing rod and bowfishing.
Nice job! Good timing on the replacement tank too! One point to consider next time - fill the boat up at a local (road side) gas station and save $1.00+ per gallon on the way back to relaunch.
Man o' man I hope your boat insurance covered all this, I can imagine just the labor alone is almost the value of your outboard engine and the tank probably a small fortune. Great documentation on tank replacement, great video but I hope anyone that has a boat will never go through this, it looks like it put a hole in your account. Your boat goes through harsher environment than boat owners that have their boat in land storage. I have a 21' center console I pamper it as best as I can, the only thing I detest is the annual maintenance of complete wash+compound+polish+wax the entire hull. If you maintain your own boat by yourself it's hard but if you have friends the easier and faster things get done. Those rich folks that own 30'+ boats with multiple engines that must be a annual fortune to winterize, 100hr maintenance or a complete detail. Thanks again for a great video, tight lines.
I am glad you guys listened to advice from commenters about not using the boat until fixed. I was on board a small boat about the size of yours which caught fire due to a fuel leak. It didn't explode like you see in the movies but we emptied three fire extinguishers on it before realizing we could not contain the fire. It burned to the water line but we were not hurt. Only lost all our fishing gear and other stuff which we generally replaced; it was good we had insurance.
YOU READ MY MIND., I WAS SEARCH INFO ABOUT YOUR BOAT AND AT THE END OF YOUR VIDEO YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT MAKING A VIDEO ABOUT THE COSTS... PLEASEEEEEEE MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT IT... HOW TO STORE IT WHEN YOU DONT HAVE SPACE, GAS COSTS, MAINTAINS COST ETC, DO YOU NEED A BATHROOM OR ITS TAKING TO MUCH AFFORDS ETC...
Yes we need that cost of ownership video. I like this one and thank you very much good luck
B.O.A.T Bust out another thousand!
After 3 months our boat is back in the water and we're excited to take her out fishing and diving again!!
thats the first time ever being out of water, theres a first time or everything
three months!!! ugh I believe I may have the same problem
Woot...woot....good to see its back..
Great job guy's 👍
Hi Brook, for reference what size is the fuel tank, in gallons? And how did you notice the fuel tank was leaking in the first place? I was wondering what the symptoms were so that we can recognize if it's happening on our boat. Thank you.
150 gallon tank. We noticed some fuel in the bilge and unscrewed that deck piece and found the holes at the top!
BOAT = bust out another thousand
All jokes aside, I'm glad you all got the boat fixed and water ready. Stay safe out there!
Never thought I would say this but that’s a good looking fuel tank.
😂😂 it’s a thing of beauty now
Saltwater corrodes everything, even stuff that convention wisdom would think doesn't rust, and you can't keep it out of any compartment of the boat.
Everything rusts in our console too! That salt just ruins everything!
Wait, where is the cooking portion? Where is Brook's Dad saying it's the best of whatever Brook made he has ever had?
Hi really glad you made this video. I’m about to get a 49 or 50 year old Pennyan. It’s always been cared for and has already had the tank replaced just a couple years ago. Brook, how much did it cost replacing boat fuel tank?
it was $7,000 which isn't a bad deal really
It looks to me that HMS did a great job of making repairs. One never really knows how degraded something is till it is removed and inspected. I would say that you all were piloting a hazardous boat and didn't realize the danger one was in. Thank goodness that you were persuaded to do the repairs. Don’t put foam. It holds saltwater against the tank. Cut pieces of styrofoam to snug tank
This is a very costly expense you wouldn’t wish it on anyone to deal with. Mind sharing the ballpark price tag?
I own a 2000 Edgewater 247 and unfortunately I'm starting to have to deal with the same problem. Thank you for giving the name of the tank manufacturer hopefully they will be able to make me a new tank.
We want the cost of owning a boat video! TBH I watch anything that Brook makes 😃

You should be in Philadelphia!

GREAT VIDEO BROOK‼️👍👍⛴🛳 NEW SUBSCRIBER ‼️. Vinny 🇺🇸
Noooo!!! Brooke, if you don't want to see a your Daddy cry, you *won't* make that "How much it costs to own a boat", video.

..just trying to help. 😆
How much did the tank cost ?
How much to have the tank replacement done by the shop ?
"Get yer motor runnin', head out on the.... ocean". Well it doesn't really flow, but I'm sure you're anxious to get back out on the water. Now we get to see some more adventure videos.
Curious when and why did you re-power if you boat it not that old? I only ask because I'm on the fence about re-powering to a Suzuki as well.
You and Victor...need to start a podcast with all angles of marine experience talked about. Girl your a natural at explaining things in a calm and sincere manner☺
A plastic tank would have been better and a lot less expensive.
It's a good thing ya'll got that fixed, safety first, cause on the water Murphy's law is real (what can go wrong Will!) Great vid
As a retired Coastie, thank you for doing the repair and doing it right. We don't give much thought to the little leaks and stuff here and there but it adds up with all the other boats and leaks. that's what 40 years in the trade teaches you, to do a job easier.
Pin holes are #1 of Calling Sea Tow or Boat Us. Or More dangerous situations 👍👍👍
What was the cost of the fuel tank, what was the cost of labor of installation?
I wanted to thank y’all for the education on fishing down here. I’m used to doing a lot of trout fishing and not to much ocean fishing so thank y’all for that
video was good but the midrool ads made me stop watching half way tru
Glad you got the boat back up and running. It never ends with boats but I would not want to be without one.
Great info and video! Thank you for sharing! I’m a small UA-camr and watching this motivates me to keep it going!
I would have done a smaller tank and a poly tank no corrosion !
Why did you not go back with a fiberglass tank?
COST ????? because i have the same problem.
How much did ezell marine charge for the tank
I’m surprised they aren’t plastic tanks
How much was the fuel tank replacement?
Filling that tank mite minimize corrosion.
Who did The repairs? Is this in Florida?
Nice vid. Brook you are beautiful
Why not buy plastic fuel tank ??
Great video. Would like to know how much it cost to keep a boat
I’d love to see a cost of owning a boat video. My husband and I actually want to purchase one and are doing research. These type of videos are icing on the cake. I love that yours and Viktor’s videos are both entertaining and educational. I’ve learned a lot from you two. Thank you for all that you do.💗
lol boats are awesome you will love it. but. there just like babies constant attention and $$$$$$$
Lots
Filler up and...FISH ON!
Love u...
Porque no le escribes al bote el nombre de tu canal
how much tank and labor cost> ?
You guys have done a beautiful job getting that tank installed.
Those guys knew what they were doing!
Are you real? WoW your Great. Your Family seems like the Best. I am from Canada and I love your explanations.
Great informative video. 👍
How many gallons is the tank ?
sand blast and encapsulate old tank with 2 layers of fiberglass and it will last forever...did it to mine...fraction of your cost.
plastic coating!!! layer
Nice vid! but Pls know that rubber strips should had not been used, rubber contains carbon, which is cathodic to aluminum and will cause galvanic corrosion also the rigging tubes appear not to have been properly secured and they're a bit short.
yes plz... cost of owning a boat... ppl need to know first hand of the cost of SAFELY operating a boat.
great video!
I am not looking forward to having to do this. But it is part of boat ownership. Did you give a ball park cost of this replacement tank and labor?
Yes brook . I'm retiring in January and moving to Englewood fl area. Would enjoy knowing more about your costs.
This looked way to easy
That would be great a video on that topic Brook. Could y’all start out by the make, model, feet, ect and the original price of the boat? How much does the value on a boat goes up, down, or equal itself out over a certain amount of years?
Thank y’all and happy holidays
PS~ Congrats 🎊🍾🎉 on your engagement with Victor Brook.
Saved yourselves a lot if headaches & many possible problems. Thanks to mother nature for causing you guys to fill the tank.
How about brook indoors? Film your pets o just Vlog a day with brook... ❤️ From a Filipino fan here in Taiwan.. ✌️

Great vid and tons of great information. I'm about to replace the tank on my 17.5' Edgewater and that power wash tip will save me
Glad you weren't 50 miles offshore when you found it leaking! Curious why not replace with a stainless steel tank?
All ways best to be cautious. My daughter saw a boat on fire a couple months ago off the coast of Mississippi and called the Coast Guard Everyone got off but could have been bad. Stay safe. I like your channel
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I think a video about the cost of owning a boat would be very helpful to potential buyers! Great idea!
