You helped me figure out what laptop I wanted, ended up getting a legion 7 about a month ago. So at this point I'm just sticking sound watching these videos because you genuinely make them interesting and entertaining. Thank you for having such a detailed and helpful style of content, I know there are other UA-camrs who cover gaming laptops but this is the only channel that isn't annoyingly high energy and really gets straight to the point, while still having all of the relevant information and fitting occasional jokes in without overdoing them. Your work and content style are sincerely appreciated
I like that about this channel too
Awesome vid, also waiting for your acer and lenovo showcase :P
Thanks for reviewing the Gigabyte G6 Kf, It almost seems like nobody has done a review on the G6 and I’m really looking forward to forward to getting the laptop in the future.
The 17x looks nice, might check it out
Still no mux switch 😂
Meanwhile the guy below you is saying how these laptops are not appreciated like how they should be. Yeah right.
ooooof
They do though?
@@cameronbosch1213 not all models shown in the video have mux switch
@@ACE112ACE112Which ones don't?
Hey jarrod, could you maybe do a quick review of the msi alpha 17 with rtx 4060 or 4070? I'm thinking about buying it but not quite sure how powerful it is in comparison to for instance the asus strix g16.
Nice stuff they got there.
I’m excited about all the new 4k 32” monitors. I’m not planning to get the gigabyte one though since the KVM on my M32U is trash.
6 seconds since the vid released. Insane!
Hey hey hey Jarrod long time no see how’s my favorite mollusk
1:44 While I'm glad that it didn't replace the right control key, that Copilot key is gross.
Are they retiring the Aero?
Do you know if it's possible to use egpu with a laptop that has gpu for extra gaming power???😮
put a video on what are the best budget and mid range laptops in 2024
Is the newer g5 kf 2024 good?
about 3:05 what is npu?
Unrelated to the video, but will HP release a new Victus Gaming Laptop for 2024?
Are you going to make a content about new ASUS Tuf Series?
Gigabyte g5 is held back by its 75W 4060 by a lot. A full power rtx 4050 is usually better, and can even have a better chassis. Hope the G6 and G6X will have higher power limit for gpus instead of processors, which are just fine.
Depends. It's still similar to full power 4050, but you get the 33% extra VRAM and it is often cheaper too.
Yea better to get an Tuf A15 rtx 4050 140w boosted for 1000€
Jarrod can you do Colorful laptops review?
Kind of dissapointed by this year's CES.
Maybe I was expecting too much but no AMD 8050/8055, barely any TB5 / USB4 v2, no widespread 180W+ (forget 240W) USB PD adoption.
I guess LPCAMM2 adoption is a stretch to expect so soon.
Asus G14 downgrade is kinda interesting since it's basically it's own new model. Kinda sad Nvidia has these 60/80W 4080/4090 lower bounds but the G14 was the only laptop that came remotely close
Hopefully OLED (and miniLED) panels don't kill battery life like they did last year. I would rather have IPS otherwise.
Hopefully MTL has battery/efficiency parity with Phoenix/x040
I'm less interested as I see this as more of a mid-gen refresh with Nvidia and AMD.
Next year I hope to be better.
-RTX 5000 GPUs.
-OLED screens on laptops being more common.
-Thunderbolt 5
-eGPUs maybe due to the TB5?
Ryzen 8000 is kinda pointless unless you care about AI anyway. TB5 only announced in Blade 18 but that's months away, I asked a few places and the hardware just isn't ready for CES.
@@JarrodsTech
When TB5 comes out (probably late 2024 / 2025) would you do eGPU testing? I heard it is supposed to solve the bandwidth issues.
@@user-ds8rj2vc4v It will certainly help but there is always latency penalty inherent to TB, at least for TB3
@@yeshwantkethineni3694
Is there? I didn't know that. How much latency are we talking here?
And yeah, hopefully TB5 is a huge leap in performance (including latency).
Which one do you think is better?
Hey Jarrod, can you add Counter Strike 2 on your gaming tests for all the new up coming reviews?
I followed your advice to get gaming laptop - legion 5 pro a few years back. Now that it’s 2024, any advice on what to get?
Себя в руки возьми 😂
Laptop OEMs in 2024: The search for the RTX 4080 & 4090.
Makes sense. They came out at such insane prices. The 4090 laptops when they first came out were like £4000.
I can buy an RTX 4060 laptop for about £1200.
Concerning the 32 inch OLED, are you sure it is brighter? This is precisely one of the criticisms made of last year's OLED screens, they clearly lack brightness. And I understood that most of this year's monitors were going to have the same problem, with a brightness that rarely exceeds 200 nits
New LG OLEDs are using a technology called MLA (Multi Lens Array) that increase their efficiency and thus also brightness, supposedly the new monitors can do 1300 nits at a 3% window size. I don't know if we've gotten any word on what their new full screen brightness is going to be though.
The QD-OLED’s will have the same brightness as before at 250 nits full screen white and 1000 nits peak HDR.
Some of the new WOLED panels will have 275 nits brightness full screen white and 1300 nits peak HDR.
Hey i just got a gigabyte g5 and i switched to linux pop os. The drivers arent installed so can anyone help?

is there any news about rtx 4070ti laptop gpu or any new laptop gpu news???
No. It seems unlikely there will be new laptop gpus this year.
Hey..
I want to buy a laptop for blender and games. I watched your videos and saw references to the Lenovo Legion Pro 5. I went to find out its price and found one, but it is not the same specifications as what I found in your videos. It is clear that you are a very good person in this matter, so I came to ask you for advice. ❤
Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 (16″ Intel), Core i7, 32GB, 1TB SSD, 16 inch
Do you think this laptop is suitable?
What is the cpu? i7 does not really say much.
i7 cpu doesn't meany anything. please provide the cpu number and graphics cards.
if you don't need portability then get a desktop. much better price to performance. nvidia rtx 4080 laptop version is terrible compared to the nvidia rtx desktop version.
pcbuilder has good videos on making good pc part lists for multiple budgets
@@ACE112ACE112 I cannot afford a desktop. If I could, I would have bought one instead of a laptop, and here you can find more information.

Why are brands nowadays so eager to remove the numeric keyboard on gaming laptops...
How do they always manage to make laptops look (and probably feel) so cheap?

Where is the 240w USB-C charging?
Only in Razer Blade 18, which is coming later. It's not quite ready yet, few more months from what I'm hearing.
really disappointed from gigabyte thought they would will provide rgb animations for their g6x lapptop but they didnt provided they just dont care thier g lineup laptop
hey Jarrod - can you go over the differences between LPDDR5X and DDR5 in laymans terms??
LPDDR5X consumes less power, can deliver more bandwidth, and has higher latency. More bandwidth means more performance especially in graphics. More latency means less performance at a given bandwidth level. For example, LPDDR5X-6400 will be slower than DDR5-6400. Generally speaking the performance differences between the two are minimal.
If a laptop has a discrete GPU, I’d prefer DDR5. If a laptop is running integrated graphics, I’d prefer LPDDR5X with more bandwidth than DDR5 with less bandwidth. At the same bandwidth level DDR5 is better, and DDR5 ram has the potential to be user replaceable.
Is the performance material? I’m basically asking because I’m contemplating between the new legion pro 7i or the new yoga pro 9i. I’m just a mediocre user game a bit but nothing intensive…
LP stands for low profile. It basically just means that it is soldered onto the motherboard and not upgradeable.
edit; so what you find is that LPDDR5 machines are thin-and-light ultrabooks usually. Or super thin gaming laptops. Thicker laptops will use regular DDR5. No performance difference.
what they said ;D
New Laptops this year have gone backwards.
This is why 'I've just ordered Lenovo 2023 4080 version on a very good special.
no one with x3d e.e
well, i dont care about this brand since they wont sell it in my region (only SSD, graphic card etc)
*remember laptop only
Nice
Dont know if i should go for a pc again or laptop
Are you a student?
i just go for laptop
Both if you can.. try to get decent desktop + cheap laptop.. you could also stream games to your laptop when on your local network using sunshine and moonlight
My Lenovo legion pro 7i rtx 4080 can play any game with over 100 to 200 fps max settings depending on the game in 2k and i even played eldenring 60 fps in 4k. Some laptops are powerful enough to completely replace a desktop ( if it's not the 4090/80 series desktop but most people don't have that ) and beeing able to have all the benefits of being portable for students and business people. So if you get an laptop with rtx 4080 or 4090 you will be just fine with almost every game.
Laptops cost more for less performance, it only makes sense if
A- you're a student that wants a pc to play and study on the go
B- you're someone who's job means you need to bring your pc with your works around (writers etc)
C- you're someone that moves around or travel often and so can't or don't want to bring their bulky pc with them everytime
Which is better ? 🙁
HP victus 15-FB1013DX ryzen 5-7535hs
or
Asus tuf f15 i5-11400h rtx 2050
Note that Gigabyte: often cuts laptops TDP power of GPU. That makes gpu weaker
That is why, they can be cheaper compared to other brands
what do u mean cut gpu power? laptop gpus already come in a range of different power limited versions. so gigabyte using an 80w 4070 (rather than a 140w 4070) doesn't mean they're cutting corners.
@@Dark.SyndicateTrue; thinner laptops can only use less power than thicker laptops. And the RTX 4050, 4060, and 4070 all hit a voltage limit around 100 watts, so it's not like there will be more performance above that anyway.
@@Dark.Syndicate And this is indicated by laptop sellers somewhere, that the power of the laptop is cut off there? This is all cheating the buyer
@@artem12b what do you want to find out more about RTX 4070s tgp? as it can't get more performance over 90W anyway, gigabyte doesn't necessarily see it cutting gpu power a too big compromise anymore.
yes, it is usually indicated by laptop manufacturers. not sure if gigabyte will do the same, but u can probably check their website later.@@artem12b

Did they fix the major RMA clownshow issues yet?
Got a g5 with display port issues exporting to external monitor is not working! So many ppl have the same issue with this model. And the hdmi is only connected to the Intel apu, also no USB c display port.
Will never buy gigabyte again!
Does anyone know what brightness 17X has?
The features on a gigabyte laptop just aren’t as premium or as nice on other laptops that will give you more ports and a better selection a better screen with a higher refresh rate and better cooling inside the system for around the same price from Acer, Asus, Msi maybe even Razer you just aren’t getting as premium features on the gigabyte Aorus laptops for example no mux switch, 165hz IPS panel rather than atleast a 240hz IPS panel, build quality, port selection, the cooling.
not having 240hz yikes
Most of them have MUX tho. Even the G6X. Maybe not G5 and G6 but that's pretty much cost cutting.
@@joelconolly5574 no excuse in 2024 imo. all models should have mux switch
Worst part is lower GPU powerlimit lol. Their 75W 4060 is worse than full power rtx 4050 which goes for cheaper.
@@bof8oom ouch.
Ai Ai Ai Ai Ai Ai Ai, did you know my toilette is Ai now too, it used to be called bidet but it's 2024 and literally everything is Ai.
Did Giga ever do something with their outdated BIOS? They promised overclocking on 2023 models with Intel HX CPU at the release, but they never did it. CPU is limited to 75 watts with overkill temperature headroom, while everyone knows 13th gen is power hungry and 75W is way underperformance. Undervoltage is impossible anywhere. They lock everything from BIOS. Overclocking/undervolting is possible on every other flagship model with Intel HX CPU from other brands. They simply ruined 17X 2023 by the shxty BIOS.
The 🌈 rainbow yaG bird on the lid yahhh... :\
so its a shite paid promotion
CES content is typically sponsored as brands want new announcements out and it's basically just news rather than reviews.
Who even buys these sublar products man? They have to really up their game if they want to sell this shit
Another Aorus idiotic design with charge port on the side rather then on the back...
Gigabyte is pretty underrated in the laptop space. They do offer good hardware. Just not taken seriously by much.
It's literally 2024 and they still don't have a mux switch. Everyone else already put that in each of their gaming laptop. Of course no one is going to care about them.
The other person already explained you why they are Gigashite.
Probably cause they look so cheap and tacky
@@vali69 cutting the price down by removing MUX on their budget device is probably the only way. Also the G6X hasa MUX.
@@niebuhr6197 let me scroll through my comments real quick
Intel + no mux switch = 2 h batery
Mux switch is not about battery life, 😮💨
Mux switch would give it 2h battery
No mux switch means optimus is always on
@@the_golden_s5682 That wasn't always the case. Some desktop replacement laptops had G-Sync without a MUX switch, meaning that the screen was always connected to the dGPU, and battery life was of course very bad.
