Best take-away for me, from this video was "Try it for one night in your driveway"...makes a lot of sense! No need to panic if you don't like it, just get up and go inside your house. Thanks so much! 💚😊💚

We did this in the back yard but with the tent. We found a covered platform with water and electric for tents only at a state park. Spoiled me ROTTEN!☺️
Even did the privacy tent to test out the portable loo and pine pellets. Supports 400 lbs...but we won't plan over 250lbs.
For a portable shower, a 2 liter hand held sprayer ($5 from $$store) warmed up in the sun.
An air fryer & electric kettle and everything cooked & frozen ahead of time in a locking cooler.
Even the squirrels snubbed their noses because we left not a CRUMB 🤣
We also found we can check out a yearly pass from our local library for state park entry and historic sites as well. Hey!!$5 is $5, right?
4 nights at a beautiful campsite for under $100 to stay and free admission to other states parks and historic sites.
We also earn points toward free camp stays, cabin stays, yurt stays, picnic pavilion reservations. SOOO much right under our noses!
      Thank you for the video!

This is the video I was looking for! I just bought an SUV and I decided I’m using it for what it was intended. I car camped really really like embarrassingly close to my house last night but I’m super proud of myself and I want to push myself to do more a bit at time. Thanks for this!

Traci Reeves, it gets better. Use what you have to start with. I started out in a Cheverlot Spark unplanned as my tent flooded out. Then this car camping became a thing. When I upgraded to MPV I thought that was it, but car turned out to be a Lemon. Now I am in small SUV. Best sleep was in Cheverlot because it was back to basics and I made it work with what I had. I have changed my set up now constantly and now love my set up in my SUV. Tip don't buy things everyone recommends, but light, and a good pad to sleep on or mattress is essential if your doing more then a night. I Transitioned from pads to a foam mattress and have to say, complete game changer. Even used it in tent. Big difference. Happy car camping. It is fun, gets you out and you create the experiences you want. Solo Female part-time micro car camper 🇬🇧

If you are just starting out it’s best to just go very basic and close to home so you can see what it is you NEED. I have moved things around in my Traverse each time finding where it works best. Also I tend to do meat, cheese and fruit or veggies or cook things at home then just reheat with campstove. No shame in wanting a comfortable park with great showers and checking out local restaurants also. Make it your own experience!

@@emowalter1 I camp in Florida with my car off. I have a rechargeable fan with a light I purchased from Amazon and I crack the windows. I also have a sun roof and will have the back open. I have not camped with the sunroof fully open due to concerns of someone being able to get into my car.
I've just started car camping and thus far I have not camped in the middle of summer. I plan my trips in the spring and fall, this way it is much nicer during the day to get out and enjoy the area.

    1) comfortable sleep system: padding underneath (sleeping pads are good, but not required), sleeping bag or blankets sufficient for 20F colder than you expect, dry socks and a warm cap if it’s cold; 2) rain gear! Always! 3) warm clothing (again, 20F colder than predicted), including a wind proof layer; 4) adequate food. If you plan to cook, source of heat (love my GasOne stove, $29), fuel, plenty of matches, a pan, and something to eat with; 5) flashlight and spare batteries; 6) first aid kit, mosquito repellant, and sunscreen; and 7) last but not least, waterproof shelter, whether vehicle or tent.
Beyond that, a sun hat, sunglasses, camera, journal and pen, and a camp chair are nice but not required. Don’t forget your toothbrush and the coffee!

One more essential: light. Although your cell phone could, at a minimum, provide that. (water bottle set on top of your cell phone's flashlight? Makes a great lantern, btw)
Another camping app suggestion: HipCamp. If you're like me, living in an area with very few boondocking options and where the state parks are usually pretty darned fulll, HipCamp is a great way to find a place to camp that's more in your budget, staying on private property set aside by the property owners for that purpose -- it's basically the AirBnB of camping.

    Cold foods and water.
Get a Nalgene gallon size Tritan jug. Very durable and leak proof.

Much bigger mammals than me are out there like bears, moose, elk, wolves etc. and they leave much larger piles of excrement all over the ground with no thought of digging a hole or using toilet paper. There are no environmental issues with this and it just makes sense. 😮

I've used Thermarest inflatable mattresses out backpacking for years. I love them for that purpose, but much prefer a real foam mattress.

I guess you also need something to charge your phone. What do you recommend?

    • @dianeschmiane
      @dianeschmiane  Рік тому +1

A small solution is an Anker battery with a USB recharger that will charge your phone a handful of times, and the large solution is a Jackery portable power station that will charge your phone for many days. I think the smallest version is 300 watts (mine is 1000 watts and so far has been more than I need, but I like to be prepared): Jackery Solar Power Station: amzn.to/3xJQXZX

Very respectfully, I passionately disagree with packing out toilet paper. It degrades fast, and wasting a plastic bag is really not eco friendly :(

Thanks for your thought, but TP doesn't degrade fast enough. I just got back from a week long trip in various places and found close to a dozen TP wads in the bushes during my travels.

I love the spirit of this video because it's inviting people to try . Not everyone camps the same way and i enjoy learning how others like to get out.
For me i love going to public site, throwng out a cot and putting a bug net bivy on top. I love being around nature as i sleep. And if it is going to rain i will set up a tarp A from configeration.

The thumbnail suggests that you only need 6 items to go camping. I think I counted 100 items by the end of the video. Haha. I think you meant 6 categories rather than items. A camp stove isn't a bad idea either. Might be better to cook some good food rather than suggesting that junk food could be an option. Unless you are camping near your home or a town, your phone will be useless, so don't forget to take detailed maps with you. Or , if you can afford it, satellite navigation. Water storage is another consideration. Spares for your vehicle. It goes on and on if you want to 8:28 have a pleasant camping experience. Oh! And don't forget camp lighting and torches.

You can totally do it! Start with one night in your driveway if you need to or go someplace really close by that first night to gain confidence. It's fun.
