- Class 50 English Electric type 4 Diesel locomotives built by Vulcan Foundry works in 1967 and 1968 starting D400 series and later British Rails became class 50 and name after Royal Navy Ships. With 16 cylinder and 2,700 horsepower diesel engines to work on mainline express passengers on the West Coast main line Crewe and Scotland climbing Shap and Beattock involving Double Header, Western region from Paddington to Oxford, Bristol, Derby, Paighton, Plymouth and Penzance after the hydraulics train withdrawn and before High Speed Train in 1979 and south east from Waterloo to Exeter.
Nickname Hoovers because of the distinctive sound made by the inertial air-filters with which they were originally fitted. They ended mainline service in 1994, and the total 18 of the class were preserved.

Hercules number 50007 double heads with Defiance number 50049 arriving in Dundee Railway Station at platform 4 with 3 horn toots or 3 tones and climbing 1 in 60 at Camperdown junction at Dundee Harbour the overgrown disused tracks for Dundee East Station and cement works as Hercules and Defiance trashing and horn whistle heading to Aberdeen. 24 August 2024
