Island hopping looking for shells. One kayak, many possibilities!

- Is there anything better than Island hopping looking for shells? That's pretty much what I thought too. I've been dying to take my own kayak out to this area to go island hopping looking for shells. When I was done with one area, I had the ability to go to another and it was a morning full of awesomeness!

I love those big old white skeletal shells. I would landscape with them if I lived in Florida. Good thing you had your kayak with you on this trip. It's so much fun to watch you shelling. Thank you so much for what you do for us.
I’m afraid that I would squeal with excitement at the sight of so many shells. One of these days I’m going to get down there. Stay safe and happy shelling ! Merry Christmas everyone !
Merry Christmas to you too!
That’s the best part!!!
I love when you help all the little critters get to water so feel free to help as many as you want 😁🤙
You weren’t kidding about the mermaid money being everywhere! What a great sight and I’m so glad you shared it with us. I bet you’re loving the independence of having a kayak and it looked like a perfect day for paddling. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the trip next week.
I had some "technical difficulties" on this trip and I'm going to need to find a different kayak transport method. Other than that - it was an amazing day to be out there paddling around looking for treasures. I wish I could do it everyday!
You crack me up, the bird keeping an eye on your kayak; too funny.
I love when you get to go out in your kayak because maybe, just maybe you’ll find a big shell in the water and you’ll be able to scoop it up.
That one sandbar that wasn’t a sandbar but a ton of shells. I wonder what’s 6in down in that pile?
What a fantastic walk today, thank you!! Loved it!! Until next week then.😊🐬👩🏻🦳
I hope you have a great week and thank you so much for coming along with me on my adventures!
Great video Sharmon! Can't wait for part 2! Take care!
So much fun!!! What a great way to spend my Sunday night. Can’t wait for next week video. 🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚
I so very much enjoy watching your beach walks. ⛱️ It's a blast when you get excited over an awesome shell or critter find, you make me laugh! With your help, I'm still identifying old shells 🐚 I've found years ago. I haven't been able to afford a Florida trip just yet, but very soon hopefully I'll be on a beautiful beach getting all sandy and actually knowing the names of the shells I find as I see them!! Yay!! Thank you again for giving me my beach fixes, I REALLY NEED them!!🤭😂
Well Holly, I'm happy to take you to the beach with me until you can get here yourself and find your own goodies! Thank you for coming along!
Wow you really got a lot of shells this week. I just love them all. Can't wait for next week's video
Always always enjoy my Sunday beach walk courtesy of you Sharmon! Thanks so much for taking us along with you! Loved all the sand dollars too! Have a great week!

I know! It's been "okay" on the beaches but these little islands have the most amazing treasures! We have some NW winds coming so hopefully that will help bring those shells onto the beach! Merry Christmas!
Simply beautiful. Stuck in nyc for the winter. Missing swfl. Thank you for the beach walk 🥰
Thanks for the videos!
WoW, so many sand dollars. I have never seen that many anywhere. Great Green video, can’t wait for next week. ❤️
I finally gave in and broke out an extra bag for the sand dollars. You had to watch where you were walking so you didn't step on them! Hope you have a great week!
As always a beautiful day at the beach ! Omg lol those little crabs scurrying everywhere ! They were to cute -what fun to watch them!
Thanks for taking us along as always! Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you for coming along with me and a Merry Christmas to you and the ones you love!

That was.an awesome shell pile. Can't wait until next week. So many nice shells. Sand dollars, olives, tulips, scallops, and Sundays. Awsome! Thanks again, Birdie P. S. Have a nice Holiday and stay safe.
Thank you Birdie! I hope you have a wonderful holiday too!
I love your videos! Have a wonderful holiday season! 🎅☃️🎄
Thank you! You too!
I have been busy moving again, trying to catch up on UA-cam videos. I love sand dollars, such beautiful clear water. I really love the gulf coast beaches of Florida!
Hi Sharmon,
Thank you for another beach walk! Your video's really are the highlight of my week.
Great to see you go out on your kayak! What a bummer that the huge lightning welk was occupied. That would have been an amazing find.
But looking at your last piece of video, you found so much gorgeous shells!
Wishing you a wonderful week, and a Merry Christmas!
Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona
Some beach visits start great and wind down - this beach visit kind of kept getting better and better. I hope you have a wonderful week as well and Merry Christmas to you and yours! ❤️❤️❤️
Love the tulips. And the murex!! Viki
Love the kayak videos!!
just got a notification that you posted! wooo! so excited for another videob
Hope you enjoyed it!
You made me laugh! I live on the west coast and I’m gasping at all the things you pass by because you’re looking for something exciting. 😲everything I’m seeing is exciting to me🤗
I guess once you've been doing this for a little while you start to get used to seeing certain shells. When there isn't much to find, I will pay attention to almost everything I find, but this time of year the shelling is pretty good so I'll skip the more common shells. 🐚
Like the new intro! Thanks for another fantastic video! Hope everyone has a merry Christmas ⛄🎄
Merry Christmas to you too!
Another awesome video thank you see you next week. 🐚🐚❤️
That Place has so many shells anywhere. I've never seen that kind of many and its amazing that they are anywhere. I guess Low Tide is what to wait for. Anyways, Thank you for another video. Keep safe and more power to your channel.
I would have given my left arm to have seen all those sun-ray Venus clams. I love them so much……
I can't help myself with those either! Especially the glossy ones 🤗
You know all the names of shells. Very cool 👍😎
What an awesome jingle! I loved that it was at least somewhat transparent on the edges
I tend to pay more attention to jingles in the summer when I can't seem to find many shells 🤗 I do love the variety of colors they come in. I couldn't resist that huge silver one!
Did you know they attach themselves to solid things, and the top piece of their shell comes loose which is why we normally only find that top piece and not a hinged ones? I never really thought about it until someone had pointed this out. So many fascinating things to learn form the beach!
I always thought they were the inside of a shell, as opposed to being a whole shell (or 1/2 bivalve). Thanks for sharing your info!
Love the bird-watcher!😊 So you found a bit of a "honey hole"! I bet if you had dug around a little more you'd have found a bunch more stuff. It's not great on the nails, but sometimes really pays off... Kice reminds me a little of Honeymoon the way the tree stumps are sticking up. Beautiful single-striped calico! That was a really light tinted cantharis. Thanks Sharmon. Have a very merry Christmas! xxoo
Ginger I hope you have a wonderful holiday season as well. Filled with love, health and lots of shells! 🐚❤️
I always watch your videos first thing on Monday and I couldn't imagine a better start of the week :) I mean: that shell pile! My goodness. I wanna dive into that like Scrooge McDuck into his money.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones, Sharmon!
One of these days I'm going to lay down on a pile of shells and make a shell angel! Thanks so much for coming along with me on my walks and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas too!
Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas to you too!
All those Sunrays I would have been in heaven….This was another fun one…Thank you as always
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for coming along!
É a primeira vez que estou a ver os seus vídeos, eu pensava que não havia ninguém pior do que eu, no amor às conchas... Hihihi... Pelos vistos encontrei alguém igual.... Desde pequenina que queria levar a inteira praia para casa.... Hihihi... Nunca vi tantas conchas tão lindas todas juntas!!!! Está mesmo num paraíso de conchas!!!! Merry Christmas from Portugal 🎄🎅☃️ 🇵🇹
Sim, sou um viciado em shell! Eu moro em uma parte incrível da Flórida e vejo todos os tipos de belas conchas e criaturas marinhas. Muito obrigado por assistir e espero que você tenha um Feliz Natal também! 🐚❤️
@@SWFBeachLife thank you you are very caring...
Great!
#600 lol whoo hoo! Great day exploring, love it all. Have a fantastic Christmas!❤

New intro, cool!
I kind like those broken huge shells, they have a certain charm to them !
Agreed! Some of them are broken or worn in such a beautiful way 😃
I probably would've kept the two large beat up shells. I like pretty shells. But the large, pitted, scarred chipped, broken and worn shells look like beautiful abstract art sculptures to me.
Sim, sou um viciado em shell! Eu moro em uma parte incrível da Flórida e vejo todos os tipos de belas conchas e criaturas marinhas. Muito obrigado por assistir e espero que você tenha um Feliz Natal também! 🐚❤️
I hope your kayak adventures all goes well. There are all kinds of big sharks... 6 footers and up... they hit those kayaks sometimes. Your very far from shore. Very Very dangerous.
Not to scare you... but you should be aware. You never know when 1 will show up to investigate you. I've seen so many stories. You would be so much better off in a full size boat of some kind.
Good shelling... good video. Stay safe !!
Thanks for your concern! I've seen videos of shark encounters too but luckily down here in Southwest Florida it's rather rare to see sharks, let alone be attacked by one. Hopefully the trend will continue. I always enjoy a creature encounter but a shark encounter is one I will take a pass on!
Nice shells!
Someday I hope to take a tour to those islands! What is the best way to clean and preserve sand dollars? I hope to find more and begin making Christmas ornaments for our tree. Thanks for another great video!
I was turned on to hydrogen peroxide by one of my viewers and made a whole video about it: ua-cam.com/video/vDcps6mcdLs/v-deo.html
If I don't mention it in the video, I paint a coat or two of 1 part water and 1 part white glue (like Elmer's Glue) on the sand dollars and let them dry. It gives them a little more "umph."
Great finds 🤩🤩💖
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Wonderful as always! Went shelling for the first time and it was great! Didn't find anything spectacular but with perfect weather and my BFF, that was spectacular enough!
Thank you for the encouragement!
Good for you! The more you get out there, the better your changes of finding something interesting. I hope you have a wonderful week!
Love the new intro ❤️
Thank you! It was time for an update 🤗
GREAT video... I lost count of the Sand dollars and Sunray Venus :-)
You and me both! There were so many! I hope you have a wonderful week!
Thanks so much for ypu
Yet another awesome video, thank you! I’m curious if you keep a running total on any particular shells? And also your progress on the difference between the Shark Eye and Moon Snail? 2 short weeks and I’m ‘there’ through March! 😎
I do not keep any kind of count of my shells. I go by how much room I have in my glass jars 😅 And yes, I have made some progress on the shark eye/false shark eye but I'm still working on it. Hopefully I'll be able to include info in the next video! And it sounds like someone is going to have an awesome winter down here! Happy shelling!
In Dickmans island I found a perfect junonia
Holy cow! you found all that out there? Mega haul! Wowie! I saw 2 lettered olives you didnt pick up LOL! How long does it take before the tide comes in and you gotta get out of there when your at all those islands? Do you stay longer than the video? or is that when you take off, cause you said its been a while since you first got out there, I think I heard you say 4 hours once?? Does it depend where you go? Ya I think Kice is good to you too. have you ever seen a large fish or creature beached out there?
You don't HAVE to leave because of the tides, I tend to get out early so by the afternoon I've satisfied my beach itch. I do typically leave when the video ends. Kice is a fantastic place to visit! It should be called Treasure Island!
Cant wait! Will be down in 2 weeks for negative low tide shelling on Marco. Thank you for this video....now I've decided to bring my kayak along! The excitement is building, 😁 (is there a parking fee at Caxambas park / marina?)
There is a $4 launch fee - that's it! Just go into the little building and pay and they'll give you a receipt to leave on your dashboard. VERY REASONABLE! I hope you have a fantastic time! PS - a friend of mine got pushed out into the gulf with the tides and had to call for a rescue. Be careful!
Holy Smokes! A jackpot of Sand Dollars!
I had to be careful where I stepped so I didn't break any!
Merry Christmas hugs from Italy🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅☃️☃️☃️🇮🇹
Merry Christmas Italy! ❤️
I love fiddler crabs.
Esay to be broken 😞 I wish to visit this place 💕💕💕💕💕
Woke in the night and had to watch. 😄
😅 Hope you still managed to get some sleep!
@@SWFBeachLife wasn't easy but did go back to sleep
What kind of scoop do you carry along on your hunt?Just how big of a shell bag do you carry?
The scoop I normally bring is a sand flea scoop. My most recent one I bought at Dick's Sporting Goods for a very reasonable price ($30). And I use a mesh bag that I "modified" as my shell bag and I showed it in an older video: ua-cam.com/video/McjkI-8etZ4/v-deo.html
Hi there! I am hoping for some suggestions and/or advice about Sanibel. I will be there the first week of January & I will have a rental car. Where would you suggest I explore? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Anywhere on Sanibel is great, and I forgot to mention Lover's Key! That's another beautiful beach to explore.
@@SWFBeachLife Thank You!!
What type of seashell are those blue ones that you keep skipping?
I wonder if the lighting is just making those shells look blue, but I suspect they were either older, darker shells, or more common shells that I decided to not pay attention to. I wanted to take advantage of the low tide and cover as much beach as possible.
You hit the Jack pot today, sweet lady! Shells are one of my favorite treasures on this earth! There’s nothing God didn’t make. Merry Christmas 🕊🎄🎁🕊🦩🐚🌴
To those that read this may you find peace and hope, through your own personal relationship, with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born in Bethlehem 🕊❤️
Merry Christmas to you and the ones you love! ❤️
Have you ever found a Junonia or how many have you found?
I have found pieces of junonia, but not a whole one. Yet. 🐚
Too much...gone SHELL buddy OMG endless Love you xoxoxo
Do you have to use a kayak to get to those islands?
No, there are a few shell tour companies you can get a ride with too.
What do you do with all those shells 🐚
I get asked that question a lot, so I recently put together a video that shows my collection: ua-cam.com/video/Afy0jl0smpE/v-deo.html
I NEED LONGER VIDEOS!!!!
I watch a few UA-camrs… I forget-do u find scotch bonnets over there?
Yes there are scotch bonnets over here, but it's VERY rare to find them in good condition. I had to go over to the East Coast to find good ones. I found a few in the same day! ua-cam.com/video/nFa4K33UWXg/v-deo.html
说话真好听,可爱的声音
非常感谢您的收看!
Sand dollar palooza!!!
I love Kice. Wonderful. Specially great for “the invalid” lol. Stay safe x
Hello love - I hope you are well and on your way to a speedy recovery. That island is tough even for us who have our full facilities! I almost knocked myself in the head quite a few times 😅 ❤️
@@SWFBeachLife I think you might need to invest in a “trailer” for the kayak….then you can collect LOADS more lol. Stay safe x
Why so few sandfollatrf
You never know when they're going to show up.
Are the sand dollars alive?
Yes, they start out as living creatures and they are very dark and have little hairs all over them. The ones I collect are dead. This video, a very old video of mine, does show the difference: ua-cam.com/video/K9H0EjZQsqs/v-deo.html
🐨🎄
Do you ever find shark teeth?
I don't find them where I normally beachcomb. We had to travel up to Venice to find some. And find some we did! ua-cam.com/video/p4x7GyKyBjg/v-deo.html
Not to freak you out or anything but if you are really alone out here you should watch out for quicksand, because you are in an ideal spot for it. Would be shame to find your seashell bag, sans you one day!
Thank you for your concern! Luckily the closest I've come to anything like that was almost losing a shoe in muck 😅
Hey…just let know when you need a watcher and I will watch you boat for FREE.
You are right! You're hired if/when I get a boat! 🤣
I enjoyed your commentary: from pleasantly surprised to pleasantly disappointed..
I wish Texas would make taking shells with living creatures illegal. Many people in Texas use lighters to heat the shells forcing the animals to abandon their shells, or they just dig them out for fish bait. It’s absolutely horrible.
Oh that's horrible! I would lose my mind if I saw someone doing that. It's one thing to make a mistake and take something live on accident. Quite another situation if someone is cruel and evicts the crabs on purpose.
@@SWFBeachLife When I called the Texas Park and Wildlife, the officer informed me that they even use shelled hermit crabs for baits, and it’s not illegal. I was flabbergasted. They then proceeded to tell me that lettered olives are a favorite, which I guess to shows why olives are incredibly hard to find in Texas.
@@bingbong9844 Oh man. Our Fish and Wildlife have no tolerance for that. A lady was arrested for collecting live queen conches in the keys. Those snails should move to Florida!
@@SWFBeachLife I believe she was from Texas too! There’s been a couple times I accidentally take a shell with a tiny crab in it, not realizing it until I get home, however I’ll gladly drive the 30 minutes back to the gulf to release them. I used to just drive to the other side of Houston and put them in the bay to save gas, but I stopped because I was worried the lower salinity would be a negative for them.
@@bingbong9844 I’ve done the same thing! Now I’m just super careful so I don’t have to battle traffic to return the creatures to the sea.
Making me sick. You were moving a lot more than you normally do or something.
Sorry!
