I love how instead of Soos making up with his father, (like most shows would have had him do,) he decides that if his father doesn't care about him, then he's not worth it. It's a very mature, and sadly realistic decision. Also, Soos definitely made the best time wish possible.
While this episode handled the heavy topic of abandonment to near perfection, I don't think any other show would have had Soos actually reconcile with his father.
For so long, I wondered why Soos was so devoted to the Pines Family, namely Grunkle Stan, and I think this episode does a great job at giving us context to that. As crooked as Stan is, he's the only consistent father figure of some kind Soos has ever had in his life. Which is kinda sad, but also kinda sweet.
He even cared about Soos so much that he tried to banned his birthday to try and help him. It didn’t work and actually might have gotten him on at least one list but at least he was trying to help Soos
You know I kinda figured out that Soos is the Hooty of Gravity Falls, enthusiastic, a little awkward, doesn’t care what people think of him, and always willing to help his friends.
This episode hit really hard for me, since I myself was abandoned by my dad. I never saw him in person, and I'm not even sure what he looks like, but still, seeing kids in my class talking about hanging out with their dad or talking about him always made me feel sad, empty. But when I watched this episode, and Soos decided that his father didn't care about him and so wasn't worth a time wish, that was when I decided "Y'know what? Yeah, that bastard isn't worth my sorrow either."

I'm not changing the past, I'm causing it just like Soos and Mabel with the vending machine.

According to Journal 3 anyone can eat from the Infinite Pizza, but it only regenerates when Soos bites from it, so it can't be used to solve world hunger, but he could use it to feed as many people as he wants so long as he's there to keep it regenerating. Also, I love Soos' found family. His relationship with the Pines is so pure.
The Dipper and Wendy moment makes u think the age difference is the only thing that stood between them. They get along great and both thought they were cute (Wendy as a kid thinking Dipper was cute; present Dipper thinking older Wendy is cute). If only Dipper was older or Wendy was younger🤔
I don't think so, her thinking he was cute as a kid doesn't really mean much. Kids will say stuff like that and then forget about it. The way she handles Dipper in the show is very clear that she thinks they're better off friends. Not everybody who gets along needs to date, that's just life! Good friendships are just as important as romantic relationships.

This was a pretty solid episode, with how Dipper and Mabel decide to go through that Globar challenge to help Soos, much like how he's helped them throughout the show. It's so sweet how they want to give back to Soos, and how Soos ultimately decides that the twins are far more worth it than seeing his father.
Some of us have shitty dads. My dad *was* around, but I'd have been better off if he'd left instead, and I cut ties with him as soon as I turned 18. While it's sad that Soos never knew his dad, it's possible he was better off not knowing him.
You probably caught this already but it kills me a little bit that he finally realised that his dad doesn't care and loses hope then literally the same day goes to the mystery shack and immediately fills that gap with the first older man to see the tiniest hint of value in him and i highly doubt stan really even thought about it

It's interesting, because on the one hand there's a much bigger age diff between Past!Wendy-Dipper and Present!Wendy-Dipper. Past!Wendy was 5, while Present!Wendy is 15. A 7-year gap vs a 2- or 3-year gap is significantly different. But on the other hand, teens change so fast physically and mentally that effectively, 15 and 12 can *feel* like 7 years apart when it's actually less, so good that Dipper got that perspective.

I actually understand soos so much bc I never really had a father figure all me life and at some point I gave up wanting for him to come but he never did and it's the case a lot of times for one of the parents and it's so upsetting to know that a parent can just leave there family before or after birth of there child
This is one of my favorite episodes because I went through a very similar difficulty to Soos with regards to my own father (although thankfully it didn't ruin my birthday. Father's day was pretty bitter though). Soos out here living my life story made me really connect to him on a personal level and I love when shows can do that to me. Also, it was very funny to learn that the World's Most Perfect Man is named Jesus.

Entirely agree: while I can understand Wendy not returning the feelings, the awkwardness is nowhere near the same level: in here Wendy is 5 and Dipper is almost 13, almost 8 years appart, whereas in the present is less than 3 years since Dipper is almost 13 and Wendy 15. Also, Mabel calling Dipper a creep definitely rubbed me in the wrong way, mostly because she's being a hypocrite about it: I mean, we litterally saw her dating someone that was pretending to be a teenager older than Wendy in the very first episode of the show, chasing and stalking elder guys than her to date them like the King of Matresses, and even kidnapped an entire boyband that were in their 20s, and she, of all people, is the one calling Dipper a creep, really? Wait. How am I just noticing this? Okay, spoilers for the end of the series so Elijah no peeking but I can't believe I never noticed. Okay So it's mainly just something interesting but in this episode, Dipper says that no one should be alone on their birthday. It's so interesting how that actually comes back in the series in DaMvtF where Mabel spends the whole day being alone just before her and Dipper's birthday since none of her friends can attend their party. And then Dipper has the time of his life with Ford and contemplates staying with him in Gravity Falls which would leave Mabel alone _on_ their birthday. I'm not trying to say anything specific, but I just thought it was so cool that it came back into play, even if it wasn't intentional, Dipper saying something early on that he comes to *_kind of_* go back on.

I actually understand soos so much bc I never really had a father figure all me life and at some point I gave up wanting for him to come but he never did and it's the case a lot of times for one of the parents and it's so upsetting to know that a parent can just leave there family before or after birth of there child
Same way with My Papi. I forgave him and even though he left my life I know he still thinks of me in his heart.

This is one of my favorite episodes because I went through a very similar difficulty to Soos with regards to my own father (although thankfully it didn't ruin my birthday. Father's day was pretty bitter though). Soos out here living my life story made me really connect to him on a personal level and I love when shows can do that to me. Also, it was very funny to learn that the World's Most Perfect Man is named Jesus.

11:06 I mean it's a bit different, Wendy is usually just around 2 years older then dipper, while here she is a about 8 younger. Like the difference between 13 and 15 isn't nearly as far as 13 and 5.
Entirely agree: while I can understand Wendy not returning the feelings, the awkwardness is nowhere near the same level: in here Wendy is 5 and Dipper is almost 13, almost 8 years appart, whereas in the present is less than 3 years since Dipper is almost 13 and Wendy 15.
Also, Mabel calling Dipper a creep definitely rubbed me in the wrong way, mostly because she's being a hypocrite about it: I mean, we litterally saw her dating someone that was pretending to be a teenager older than Wendy in the very first episode of the show, chasing and stalking elder guys than her to date them like the King of Matresses, and even kidnapped an entire boyband that were in their 20s, and she, of all people, is the one calling Dipper a creep, really?
Sorry, but I hate the double standard this narrative has about bashing Dipper over something Mabel does on a daily basis but it's portrayed as something cute and funny.

So it's mainly just something interesting but in this episode, Dipper says that no one should be alone on their birthday. It's so interesting how that actually comes back in the series in DaMvtF where Mabel spends the whole day being alone just before her and Dipper's birthday since none of her friends can attend their party. And then Dipper has the time of his life with Ford and contemplates staying with him in Gravity Falls which would leave Mabel alone _on_ their birthday. I'm not trying to say anything specific, but I just thought it was so cool that it came back into play, even if it wasn't intentional, Dipper saying something early on that he comes to *_kind of_* go back on.
