- We just spent a full weekend in Illinois with the Roadster Shop guys and our minds have been officially blown! They lived up to and exceeded the legend we had built up about them. The chassis business is one thing to see and it's nothing short of astounding and then to see their custom shop with an in house designer and engineer and to to experience 3 of their builds which are all unique to themselves, all flawless in quality and most importantly drive as good as any custom car ever built...then top it all off these are exceptionally cool people to spend time with! Our whole crew is completely knocked out by the experience with Roadster Shop and hope you enjoy this 1st of 3 episodes with them. 1st of 3 for now that is...

I love this build....amazing....I have a 1989 Pontiac turbo trans with 6k miles all original, 6000 miles documented; i want to sell it or trade for a minty GNX or minty GN; not joking; I am in PA
@@jimsworthow531turbo trans am and this regal..... as good as it ever got in my opinion,... this regal is the best build on the planet. There I said it... yeh I'm a 80s kid but is, what is is.
@@user-hm5vi6wo6r Dude; I'm a 80s kid too; i had pictures of GNs on my walls. I agree; the turbo T and GNX are best in show to this day.
When you have an unlimited amount of money and resources and skills to make a serious restomod.....This is the result; Perfection.
Agreed all the way
Perfection in 99%.
For me,to reach 100% is one thing missed:T-Tops!
That would the 80‘s vibes screw on the top,you know?
Even the G-Body Buicks had never these options..
But anyway,this car is outstanding!
@@p.scha7476 T tops suck though. Lose chassis rigidity and they always eventually leak.
@@AutotopiaLA ok
@@p.scha7476 with that amount of power the likely chance of an accident those t tops are gonna be a problem, I think these guys thought that through my man!!!
I am a GN guy and what the Roadster Shop did this one is unbelievable!!! This is the baddest GN on the planet bar none. So much attention to detail. Truly amazing. Well done and props to the very luck owner.
I love g body's period, and this is definitely the baddest and most well-built street g body ever
I agree
Agreed! Gorgeous GN!!
Absolutely , I've always wanted one , I ended with a 74 trans am . It was my second choice if I couldn't find a gn in my price range . Amazing car 👌
@@eggbeaters 74 trans am are to heavy,handle wierd,way off balance,shit cars.......never right,ever...to build on....gn...yes,,,,,,def....
I'm a former GN owner and I can say without a doubt this is the best G-body build on the planet. Old school look meets modern performance/chassis/suspension/wheel&tire setup and electronics. So badass. One day...
Yes I really miss my 87 GN
These are the builders we need to see more of. Keep it factory clean with modern upgrades. You nail it !!!!!
They do incredible work with great style
The GNX only came in auto, the lightning rods really set that tone of respecting some of that history and original vision. Fkn sick ride. For real.
Very cool and keeping a lot of heritage in it
Absolutely on the spot!❤😮😊
This is absolutely on the spot!❤😂😮
Dope ass car. How would it fair up to a wrx Sti , like cost to performance wise?
@@HelloHello-gv2ggLOOOOOL
He did a phenomenal job integrating the new technology yet keeping it an 80's theme!
A car is nothing but 4 wheels and a body shell. Once this is understood, nothing is impossible...
This might be my favorite car ever featured on this channel. That “Turbo 8” logo is a stroke of genius, and the lengths they went to make the interior look OEM while maximizing the 80s vibe is incredible.
AH 427 LS7 THANKS THAT ANSWERED MY ?'S
For as much as I love G bodies especially the GN I never put it together that the original logo was a 6, I just saw a turbo. And again i didn't even notice that it was an 8 I just thought it was a really cool take on a twin turbo logo from the original single turbo logo.
This is pretty much the coolest car ever. Love it!
Hey roadster shop is just north of chicago. Time for a colab?
@@alejandrocontreras8314nah
I totally agree it would be my dream car.
Hey I love your channel too bro you have some awesome cars I just love the stuff you do the LS Boosted Van by far one of my faves but I also love your GNX as well hope you keep the 3.8 Turbo original in it now I love this but keeping it to its original power train will make that thing be priceless!!
Funny, I just got done watching your "My Car World Has Officially Crashed & Burned! Big Channel Update! Mostly Bad Except 2 Things" video and then seeing you comment here. Alex you have one of the best automotive channels on youtube.
one of the cleanest yet craziest G Body builds out there! You have to work really really hard to look like you haven’t done any work at all! Hats off to the Roadster Shop guys
It's a mind blower!
Totally agree.
Probably the most irrelevant thing that nobody will notice, but THANK YOU for not swapping out the headlights for some tacky LED or something else, like the builder said, sometimes just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Bravo.
Gotta love the twin turbo 8 logo. Even something simple as that was incredibly thought out. Tool the turbo 6 logo, doubled it into an 8 and made sure to let u know that it was 2 turbos. Just brilliant
One of my dream cars….everyone will have a different opinion about the power plant but whoever paid for it, deserves to make it their own. Such a sick ass car.
Killer ride at every look and man does it drive amazingly!
I bet it does!
I'm a GN owner. And you guys knocked this one out the park. It is one beautiful menacing machine I am speechless. I would love to have my GN done in this craftsmanship all the detail is 🎉remarkable. Major props to the whole team and owner of this masterpiece. Great job guys!!!
This car is perfect as far as Im concerned. My brother had one in 87 and i fell in love with these cars. He had it stolen when he was in college and we never saw it again. I still think about that to this day and that over 30 years ago...
I drove GN’s and Regal T’s brand new as a teenager working at Miller Buick in Fairfield, CT. I know the 3.8 like a brother.
This build made me smile the entire time. The power runs are Gobsmacking.
I've been waiting patiently to see what RS releases with their screen setup ever since I heard they were gonna be offered. Such a badass setup they created !
I'm over the moon from top/bottom front/back over this set up. Love the GN's but this one blows my mind.
This screen setup is absolutely amazing.
I'd say this car is at another level, but this is so much more beyond that. The amount of engineering involved in this build is so impressive.
The existence of this ride has a positive impact on all builds. It’s illustrated many weaknesses in that materials are too readily available to the public.
This car is a masterpiece. The ultimate Grand National . Gran turismo award worthy.
Totally agree
This is like bringing the Grand National to 2022.
Those flares are done so well! I noticed them, but honestly, I couldn't figure out if that was factory or not which fit in with my favorite saying. "When you've done things right, nobody will noticed you've done anything at all."
Buick Grand Nationals were built 1982-1987 and had a Turbo 6 Cylinder that put out 276 Horsepower. They were the Muscle Car of that time. This Car puts out 1,000 Horsepower and looks the same. What a nice Car.
Officially, my favorite gbody build of all time
IM WITH YOU, WHAT A SWEET CAR, THEY ROCK
Its like you look at the car and you go "ooh nice, that is so cool. What did you do to it?" Cause you look at the car and all they have done is complimented the excisting design. You cant tell what is factory and what is reengineered. I love these kind of builds.
This car is perfectly dialed in im amazed by the genius of this guy. The dedication he put in every single little detail is insane and it really shows a huge difference when you pile up little details. You rarely see a car that everything thats has been makes sense and is fully coherent to what he was really thinking for the project. Props dude awesome machine!
The customer had unlimited funds. That goes a very long way in to putting dedication into every detail.
@@jimk7882 i know bro sometimes its a gift to have a customer that will go all the way. But i don’t think he got that customer out of the blue, probably he did some research on that guys shop and was confident it would turn out exactly how he wanted and thats the most difficult part.
Those 80's style digital screens are so awesome! And just like you said crappy looking plastic vents. All of that and keeping that 80's aesthetic so so gloriously well done. Not one single thing I don't love about this. I'm beyond jealous of the owner. Edit: I know he "said" it was mild mannered just driving around but wow. I've never seen a 1600hp car so so smooth and streetable.
It’s incredible how mild it is until you hit the go pedal. Then it’s pure violence
And to think as well, they were only in the low HP setting of a mear 1100 hp. That has to be insanely violent at 1600 hp!
I owned a 1987 Buick Grand National with T-Tops while I was in the Army. I hated getting rid of her, and want another. Seeing this video, I know now exactly where to take her!!
those gearbox controls are a dream inside a dream project car. Amazing
That infotainment setup is amazing. Puts that shop at #1. Such a flex on craftsmanship and attention to details.
This is amazing I know say it all the time on here. But this maybe the coolest one yet. The craftsmanship is beyond next level level. GM, FORD, Dodge pay attention this is how its done!!!!
It’s flawless on every level
Lol the trick is making for prices GM and Ford made. Any one can make car cost be damned. Think before you comment next time. 🤦♂️
@@paulm6481 The style and design make it. Your comment is thoughtless. The big 3 make lame looking cars. They can't make frames ,and motors for the public on this level. But they sure could do something with this kind of thought 🤔
I am normally not a fan of digital dash displays, but the 80's aesthetic won me over :)
I love Restomods. This build reminds me how much I appreciate the mixing of Classic cars with modern technology.
It's like a fucking rocket that identifies as a Grand National!
That interior & dash is on another level.
Next level all the way
this is absolutely by far the most incredible interior i've ever seen in any custom build.
it speaks volumns to look at a 1600 hp TT Grand National custom build and what seems to be the climax is the interior. my goodness
This build is absolutely flawless, not only flawless but fascinating man! I’ve been in car culture for 30 years and this build is by far one of the best I’ve come across. I could listen to this man talk for hours, my type of man. And let’s not mention the galloping horses this has. Mannnnnn, this is petroleum heaven.
My brother and I both had 87 GNs at one time. We loved them! What I love most about this ultimate GN is how refined and aggressive it looks. The body mods, wheels and the stance is absolutely perfect. It pays tribute to what a stock GN is. This is what a GNX should have looked like! So much power and so much attention to detail. Crazy!
This is an all-out restomod I can respect. Every detail is subtle enough to be mistaken as stock from 10 feet away but elegant enough to be appreciated when your win the car. The twin turbo 8 emblem is by far my most favorite subtle change I like about this car.
So much taste and artistry in this build
I don't understand the hate for people who take a venerated vehicle and turn it into something just a little different, and often times, better. There are plenty examples of unmolested GN's. Or many others makes and models. No reason for ALL of them to be original. This one is better than original.
@@bobgraves5833 the changes are subtle, yet elegant. If you watch enough of this channel's videos, it's people who totally ruin the spirit of the car just for the sake of dumping six, or even seven figures into it.
I've always been a Mustang guy, but I must say anyone would love to have a ride like this. What a great job they did of building this car. Flares look great! Stay safe!
Mustang was produced under 300hp for over 30 consecutive production years from the early 70's to the early 00's, the only folks who like mustangs are females and dudes who had a daddy with one
I’m with you I’m a mustang guy too…I’ve had lots of foxes and even a 2012 gt 5.0….but I’m working on a rare 86 factory T-Top coupe with capri fenders added and it’s a roller right now but I can’t wait to put it back on the road some day!!!
I WANT TO NAME THIS CAR! BLACK MAMBA!!!
That is one of the coolest builds I ever seen. So much attention to detail.. so much homage to the original. So cool, great job guys
Re: getting on it @ 35.00, I would equate that to walking a gorilla on a leash. Yeah, you might THINK you`re in control, but you`re just a squeeze away from escape velocity. I approve !
So basically, it can vaporize street tires at any speed. I honestly woulda been happy as a clam with 600hp. I love the Roadster shops builds, truly some slick finished products!
Crazy how nicely it drives with 1600 horses waiting to run
AUTOTOPIA , THAT GRAND NATIONAL IS SO BITCHIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💯💯💯💯💯💯💯🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
It's so tastefully done. Modern but still saving the nostalgia feel. Respect
Literally the greatest, most bad ass car I've ever seen or heard. Period. The end.
Dodge m4s beats it.
Shawn got SO SCARED at the end and said “yeah we can head on back to the shop now” 😂🤣😂
This is the GRAND NUISANCE for other cars... 🔥🔥🔥🔥👏🥂
I was with a smile on my face from the beginning of the video till the end of it......what a car, man!!!.....Cheers!!!.
This is the best car I have ever seen in my entire life! I would pick this over a Veyron or anything. This blows everything else away! I would drive this thing everywhere!
WITH OUT A DOUT IM IN LOVE WITH YHAT CAR
Possibly the most wicked build I’ve ever seen. Exactly my preference regarding the old “all business” approach to hot rodding that I have embraced over years….simply awesome!!
That is about as perfect as a build can get. Amazing work!
Totally agree
Man, ive been away from car things for a bit. This video brought me back, and ive caught my self up. Jesus, i cant begin to imagine how fun the cars are these guys build, perfection all around
I think the technology in the dash setup is amazing.
When I seen a glimpse of the dash, earlier in the video, I thought, no they didn't keep the cheesy dash. Then they showed it in the middle and I was shocked.
The whole car feels stock at a glance. Even if many of the things are not. They're just so subtle, that they don't stand out too much to take away from the stock look.
I think I'm in love.
Shawn, once again, you deliver a video that is just intoxicating! All of the choices Jeremy and the team at Roadster Shop made to this car are just incredible. His passion and attention to detail are truly on another level. This G Body is over the top! WOW!
it looks like the ride is soo smooth, no bouncing at all.
Perfect combo of cruiser and bruiser! Drives wonderfully and when you put your foot in it another car emerges and it’s a beast
This is THE baddest car on the planet. So understated, yet so over the top. The attention to detail is mind boggling. That dash, gear shifters, everything !
GNs are one of my favorite cars ever made. This might just be my favorite GN ever built. Looks and feels just right, like an original GN, but dialled up to 11. Absolutely perfect.
This car was my crush growing up. Always wanted one terribly. You think you're blown away. I'm just watching and I'm blown away. What a beautiful build. I'm amazed at the thought and quality. Truly beautiful. Now I don't have a crush. I'm officially in love. Great build, great video!!
I’m in love with this one too. Everything is perfect!
This has got to be my favorite build of the year guys. Just the retro modernity of it absolutely kills. I'm in love
There’s not many examples from the 80s cars outside of Europe, and Japan that are interesting or exceptional but this is definitely one of them.
This is the most badass GN I’ve ever even dreamed of. God if only I could afford this car!!! Holy mackerel.
One of the finest builds I’ve ever seen or experienced
Yes!!! Finally the music gets out of the way of the glorious exhaust sounds. Thank you 🙏
Been working on getting the music down when the vehicles get moving
@@AutotopiaLA it shows. Thanks so much!!
Hands down this GN/g-body is the ONE , what a unit…
Best custom car i've ever seen . . . . wow 😮
Jesus... this is the most amazing car that's EVER been on this channel, in my opinion! I'm guessing this car is worth maybe $250k - $300k? Whatever the amount is, if I can come up with the funds, I want an EXACT duplicate and I'm dead serious. I am TRULY in love with this beauty! I don't even need mine to make that much power. 600 - 800 to the wheels would be good enough for me. Definitely the most amazing, FULLY built Grand National I've ever seen.
I have a feeling it cost way, way more than that.
Absolutely without a doubt a masterpiece build. Great work guys. The instrument cluster and the colored engine bay is wicked nice.
Horsepower is so addictive. It's amazing how all that power can be tamed
Wow, this is the Best Built I ever seen. Congratulations to the builders and the owner!!!
one of the coolest builds I've ever seen!
Bro this might be some of the best automotive enthusiast-related footage i've seen in recent memory. that car seems like it'd make me piss my pants, and i'd totally be cool with the experience. i literally LOL'ed at multiple points while you guys were squeezing that throttle out on the road. good god, that's damn near perfect... that's what i want, something that'll make me giggle -- who really gives a shit about track times and whatever. i want the visceral, goosebumps and beads of sweat on my face kind of experience. thanks for this one!
When he went from a stand still. He drove the car and you can tell how subtle it is by looking at his face lol awesome
WWAaaaoooo!!!!! It is on another level, there is no comparison for that car...I can't imagine the roadster Shop version for the Syclone and typhoon 🤯🤯
I love the precision of this car. The safety, the subdued exhaust to the quick, positive shift. I always wanted to drive a Lightning setup but it didn't happen.
Insane GN!!!!! Love all the crazy 80 details!!!! Freaking awesome build. I did see one minor thing that I feel should have been kept. The tail pipe exits are not on the "45 degree" exit. Other than that minor thing. Damn so jealous!
It's more "Monte Carlo SS styled" but I like it
@@CraigCatapano
True.
OOooMmmmGgggg!!! Im Blown away, my DREAM CAR...I waaannn it!!
I want it too!
Attention to detail is at an unheard of level. Unbelievable! Even created their own all in one display control unit AND MADE IT WITH 80'S COLORS AND 80'S GRAPHICS (orange etc).
Truly amazing craftsmanship. I'm a Muscle Car guy and equally a G-body guy. The only thing this car was lacking was the led sequential tail lights ( & third brake light) and the classic rear defogger elements on the rear window. Everything else was just mind blowing. I'll bet Kevin Hart will be a future customer soon.
Wow! Absolute perfection! More G Bodies on the channel please! Also, I’d love to see this shop build a Cutlass and a Monte the way they paid homage to the GN!
442 or Hurst
T Type back in the days was a fun ride ..but this GN is a beast ..Beautiful Build.
unreal. The little touches like the revised 6 to 8 logo really shows the attention to detail and care that was taken to create the the most badass GN ive ever seen.
Just Wow. No other words…
I get it
I can understand why you were speechless at times Shawn. This build absolutely blows me away. It is nothing short of perfect!
These boys are what we need…nothing they can’t achieve or accomplish…I can’t find the words to describe what a masterpiece work of art…I just wish I could have that drive/tunnel vision on my dreams like they do and not let nothing stand in the way of whatever they want…big time respect.👊🏻🇺🇸
I have never been into domestic muscle cars but this car is SICK ASF, completely mental. Amazing build....
Saw the Motortrend article on this car and my jaw dropped.
I gotta say, certain swaps I'm not a fan of, as cool as they may be...the Grand National and other similar models of this platform (Regal t-Type Turbo, GN-X, etc), I always thought they should keep the turbo V6, because the V8 is "the most expected" upgrade, sort of "mainstream" in terms of idea.
I've seen V8-swapped Grand National's before, but never one with this much attention to detail.
And I gotta say...despite my previous opinion on V6 over V8, I was sold by this car. It really is something else.
Thanks for the video, guys! 😎👍🏻
That’s awesome! Glad it could sell you cause it’s really that good. I know true fans of G bodies prefer the 6 but this is so tastefully done
@@AutotopiaLA It is.
I always enjoy projects that maintain this OEM look, and this one won me over in all of them. Even the "double digital" dashboard, resembling the 1980's designs. Some retrowave even played in my mind as I looked at it, LOL! 😂
This GN build easily has to be 500k +, nice job guys! Big thanks to autotopiaLa and Jeremy for taking us on your street slaying adventure...WOW
Two dudes as gritty as school girls, ripping gears and burning tires. Their expressions tell you everything you need to know about this Grand National. Incredible.
never seen a car built like this. it's insane with the ability they had to do pretty much anything yet keep it so restrained and perfect in the end.
The stance and fitment is perfect. Nailed it !
Those replica OEM rims are so badass. 🔥
These guys are located 30 minutes from my house out here in IL! I've seen some of their cars at the local car shows during the summer, the best of the best in the restomod world!
The KIT looking digi and its screen are amazing. Wow, im speechless, this car is amazing, Ive had lightning rods in my 83 hurst olds and noticed them instantly, phenomenal job gentlemen, yall did the most on this build. Amazing.
What a gorgeous, nasty car. With power like that, you got to know how to drive without wrapping it around a telephone pole. Great review.
Definitely need to be a real driver to give it the juice
This has got to be the greatest GN build of all time. Incredible in every way.
This was my dream car when I was in high school in the late 80's. There was one of these in my town at the time and I slobbered myself every time I saw it!
I gotta say, I love seeing Shawn's reactions when he is riding in any of the cars on this channel. It always seems like it is his very first time riding in badass cars that are fast AF. His reactions are so genuine. It's like he's losing his virginity over and over and over again.🤣🤣
lol! I do get pretty damn excited driving and riding in vehicles like this. This is one of my all time favorite custom builds
Lightning Rod shifters...brings me back to my old man's '84 Hurst Olds 442. This build is spectacular!
Awesome interview Sean! Roadster Shop did an amazing job on this Grand National!
These boys have got some TAL-ENT. I hear their name everywhere. Good to see a young bloke doing so well. I'd be interested to see how this car would do at, say, SEMA. This is the kinda stuff they look for. A build that's modded but is respectful to the original. Great job.
A grand national is my dream car.. this one brought me tears of joy😭😂
Dude... that's it! GNX'in!🏆🏆💯⭐🔥🔥🤙
I absolutely love this build. The mods are so tasteful and TBH it only makes the original lines of the GBody look even better.
