  • Mafia released back in 2016 and was critically panned for it's repetitive gameplay, dead open world and lack of innovation so i went back too it in 2023 to see if Mafia 3 improved over the years and see if it's worth buying.

The police are relentless when you fight them! They also don’t drop weapons which makes you improvise and use hit and run tactics and really rely on the weapons van. If you lead them to where your Allie’s are they’ll fight the police alongside you.
So in a way it can get pretty hectic.

      @jakesoros2376 9 місяців тому +2

      @@cookdislander4372No there aren't, trust me.
At first, the police AI was so glitched out that they would ignore your gang members as they were trying to get you, thus running into crossfire. Now, they focus on both your gang members and you.
While you can hold out in various strongholds you acquire in the game, trying to escape without a car equipped with bulletproof tires is difficult, as the police have near aimbot AI with automatic weapons.
Honestly, running from the police isn't fun in this game, they either immediately open fire on you personally, or they shoot out your tires nearly immediately, and then gun you down.
GTA IV, V, and Watch Dogs 1 and 2 have far better police chase and NPC war systems.

Mafia 3 was my first game of the series and I didn't know what to expect. I firstly saw some clips about Mafia 2 and thought it would be some kind of L.A. Noire but I was incredibly surprised about an open world GTA playing in the past.
The driving and gunplay did it for me and I wasn't expecting it to be so realistic when I usually played GTA 5. The Story was great and told in a genius way.
Not to mention the music and general atmosphere. The story of an black veteran badass being victim of racism and being present in a consumer society and the rise of the hippies made me evolve my love for this timeline.
And now I'm hearing 60s all day long and copied the dressing style and general vibe.

The storytelling and voice acting in this game are simply incredible by far one of the best concepts that I have personally played and satisfying to watch as well. The only issue I have is that this game shouldn't have been an open-world game. The story is definitely where it shines its brightest and the open world is just so bland and dead it's almost comical. So many missed opportunities that could have made the world feel alive resulting in it feeling very dead.

Mafia is originally intended to be open world game man, from the start. Back in the time they didnt have a big open world but it was 2, 3 cities/Provinces. So they didnt make a mistake, game is good, but man Black man really? I dont have anything against black people just to be clear. But its a Mafia game, and i think they just should've tracked story from previous game. It would be more interesting and it would have that feeling like playing 2nd part.

Mafia 2 is one of those games I grew up with, as a young gamer I wasn't really deep into gameplay specificaly but just the overal experience it gave us.
The story, time, setting, athmosphere, music, ect. Expecting a lot from Mafia 3 wanting to relive that same experience Mafia 2 gave me, when it released on consoles the dissapointment was massive especialy because of console limitations and how bad it performed on my friends consoles. Fast forward a couple of years and I owned a computer gaming setup, the game received some updates and I gave it a shot for myself.
From the story to the environement, time and setting the game takes place. Its one of the few games I can already look back at and actually get goosebumps of the great feelings it gave me. The graphics and atmosphere this game brings me with the vibe and lore. If you just play it as a casual open world game that didn't try anything unique or new to be catchy during marketing/advertisement like many games do nowadays.
Mafia 3 doesn't need any of those, Its all up to you, ofcourse it's just casual gun gameplay some call it repetitive, I remember people complaining about questing system in world of warcraft calling it bland/numb kill 12 bear quests but those details aren't what makes a game a truly unique and worthwhile experience. You just start the game, and experience it for what it is. That thing is just a piece of art that all fits together perfectly in a video game catchin so many different stories and emotions with a beautifull piece of history we can experience, just like mafia 2 was. Mafia 3 is one of the very very few games out there that actually lives up to its name, sure some people would want a literaly continuation of Mafia 2's story but with the exact same things in it only with better graphics, well we got Mafia 2 remastered now and I'm glad of what they did with the 3rd, giving me a new unforgetable experience with its theme and athmosphere. Just another undderrated game that doesn't fit the dopamine induced fortnite gaming mentality I guess

I bought the Mafia Trilogy for xmas 2020 or 21 mainly for #1 (I had fully played only 2). I beat 1, loved it. Replayed 2, loved it. Tried 3, liked it but was burned out from the other 2 and shelved it. Bad reviews weighed into that. Took til about a week ago, I gave it another try and I regret not playing it before, I loved it. It's s not perfect, its buggy (videos not loading properly, enemies missing faces, tables not loading but stuff is ontop somehow), its repetitive af but I liked it and didn't mind it most of the time. I didnt mind the driving, if you've beaten the Mafia 1 DE race on classic anything else is heaven. It might not be as good as a GTA or RDR2 but I still will replay it a few times, I actually wanna now to get a different ending and fuse the DLC pack into the story like a guide online has.

Also when you use a silencer you hold it with two hand more like a spy or just a pro. I played Mafia I, II and III in rapid succession, since I got my hands on a cheap bundle of the three remastered games for 20€.
While I did very much enjoy Mafia I and II for their ambiance and chosen timeframe, it felt their "open world" were very underutilized, and both games could be finished in under 12h (I finished Mafia I with Classic difficulty under 12h, and Mafia II with hardest difficulty under 11h) and very little need to come back if you already managed the perfect route. Not that it is a problem at all, i'm fine with short but intense games such as these were.
Now coming to Mafia III, the playthrough is still ongoing at the 12h mark, and I do admit that so far, missions has been fairly repetitive in their structure. (Go there, wreck stuff and kill everyone, go there kill everyone and steal that, go there kill everyone) I actually enjoyed the liberty of approach it gave, and found myself using a lot more the tools at my disposal to complete missions in a fun way, rather than just trying to complete the mission, but the side effect is that most side missions lack in originality and becomes quickly akin to busywork.
Infiltration is also very much less clunky than it was in previous titles, and cover mechanics as well as blind fire is very well exploited.
Driving feels very good to me, less arcardey than GTA but still forgiving enough for a controller.
While playing on Harder difficulties, I didn't find the AI that dumb, it was oftenly flanking me, threw molotov and frags at my face more than i'd like to. I found myself taking a slew of different approaches, ranging in between run and gunning, to discreet takedowns, to stirring up the nest on one side to flank and hit from behind with a silent gun, etc... The AI would spread in the building and look for me, however they have that weird behavior that make em send guys one by one when they start to get low in numbers but don't see the threat, and sentries won't call unless you are openly engaging them. You could silenced gun everyone around them, if they don't cross gazes with you, they won't touch the phone...
Coming from Mafia II which had slight stutter issues while driving around the map on my system, I was expecting performances issues, but that wasn't the case at all, game run likes a charm and look pretty good for 2023 standard.
All in all, and despite having played a bunch of GTAs (since the second installment), I still think Mafia III is a good game, that deserve a better rating. It's story telling is very well made, the story is a pretty decent vengeance story, the gunplay is solid, the driving experience is solid, the open world map interesting to visit with cars and boats, a surprisingly good experience.

Feels more like a Punisher game than a Mafia game. I really like Lincoln Clay, the story and setting is the best part of the game. This game also has an amazing soundtrack. Its a shame that the open world aspect of the game is underbaked and that aside from the main story missions, the repetitiveness can become mind numbing. I dont understand the point in making the game more open world but then having nothing to really do in it. The small details from Mafia 2 like getting gas or going into stores to eat and buy clothes, would've helped with that.

i played the orgingal mafia 3 back on its release week, i got so bored of it in the middle of game that i just left it midway and never touched it. and those days i used to complete any game that i touched.
the world felt bit too empty to me, gunplay was really good but driving was atrocious. and you earned money, but there wasnt much you could do with it. i dont know they changed all of this later in years, but back then this was my major gripe and the reason i stopped playing it, it just became way too boring. even with the good voice acting somewhat decent story it still became really dull mid game only for me.

Yo classic, im a long time sub of yours and you have been part of why i am now inspired to make my own videos. Thank you.
    Anyway, i need your help
I have just recorded a gaming video for dying light, and I also made a thumbnail for it. I recorded it on OBS studio.
But now i need to edit it a little bit.
Problem is, every editing software is really expensive from the ones i have found, what editing software do you use?
Do you know (or does anyone else know) if theres any free software i can get, or will i have to fork out 30 or more pounds a month for editing software?
If it comes to it, I can always just put the video out as it is anyway, the only problem with it is that the audio mixing is terrible and thats the most important thing i need to edit.
Can barely hear my voice bc of the game lol.
But yeah what editing software do you use? Also im still loving your videos bro
Edit: holy sh ive just realized this looks weird asf, so i just want to add a disclaimer.
Yes, your videos have been some apart of why i have been inspired to make videos, because you sound like you have alot of fun making yours and id love to make my own. BUT the name similarity is just a coincidence.
My name is jack also, and the ''games'' part in my name is a genuine coincidence, ive only just realized our names are similar but i didnt do this on purpose to steal/take inspiration from his name.
My steam name has been JackGames for years now on PC.
Just posting this edit cuz i realized shortly after that our names are really similar and since i said he inspired me, it made it look like i stole his name lmao.
Promise i didnt, genuine coincidence we just have the same first name and both decided to have the word ''games'' in our names.
    Lmao that was awkward.

reason im asking is because im not sure if i can because since i recorded it as one, the files are in together, so id assume toning one thing down would tone the entire thing down.

I think that the hand to hand fighting & weapons combat is better in every way than GTA 5. The story is great. The 1968 setting is awesome. I play the game in simulation driving and enjoy it quite a bit more than the arcade driving in GTA 5 also. I do agree there isn't much to do in the open world and the game is a little glitchy. Customization is better than GTA 4 you can do some cool things to your cars. I like the street racing a lot. I think it's a really really good game just needed a little more polish & activities to be great. Online in 1968 would of been awesome and a good competition to GTA 5 i would of def played that

I eventually played a bit but I never passed the mission where you had to infiltrate the sheriff’s office. Decided to pop it in the ps5 the other day where I was nicely updated to the Definitive Edition. Right back to that mission and failed a couple times but finally got thru it and like riding a bike i was back in the game. Feels like it could give the PS5 newer games a run for their money. Looking forward to a 4.

      Maaaan
1:33 "Lincoln Clay some sort of legend that took down a crime family"
      - Dude Tommy Angelo literally snitched on his own family and arrested them, basically crippling the Familie's power/influence
Vito Scaletta took down many important figures of his own family too!
Vito took down Carlone Falcon, Derick at the Docks, Vito took down the Chinese Mob, Vito took down Luca
Yet when Lincoln does it, that doesn't "feel like a Mafia game"
1:47 exactly that! Vito joined an already WELL established/powerful/influential family, Lincoln Clay built his from scratch. He did all the work and gave the perspective of someone who doesn't get a handout job of joining a family.

    -The music is Perfection (OST/Soundtrack)
    - Gameplay is reaponsive and satisfying
    - Driving is Unique kinda like gta 4. Instead of just boring Driving like gta 5, mafia 3 keeps you engaged.
    - The City/Atmosphere of the Game is Amazing i rather spend 10 hours in New Bordeaux than 2 hours on Los Santos.
-Story is Great, felt really unique, (The 1960 Era story, the revenge plot was already way overused.)
Tbh a lot of people come to this game looking forr either GTA or Mafia 2 and its none of that, Hangar 13 tried something of their own and in my POV they nailed in many aspects but Failed in some important ones (specially at launch, oof)
But i think it was a very good beginning for H13 and Mafia Definitive Edition proves this

Mafia 3 had two paths it couldve gone:
    A. Keep it open world and expand on that. Running around the world feels repetitive, having to do everything yourself. As you take over the city, you should be able to have guys help with taking over rackets, feeling like an actual mafia "Boss" instead of a guy just shooting goons till their wannabe boss turns up.
Having the OPTION to DIY but just running shit yourself and doing hits etc. wouldve been great. More open world, little and meaningful interactions. The gameplay loop makes the games open world boring.
    B. Have it be a linear story game. Drive around the city, bust up a drug ring in one mission, country club next etc.
This mixup between a HORRIBLE gameplay loop and the story being amazing is what does the game wrong. That being said, im playing it a 2nd time.
