- On Sunday, May 31st, 2020, history was created in the field of devotional music.
For the first ever time in the performing arts genre of bhajans and #Namasankirtanam, a group of 24 musicians from South India collaborated to release a prayer for the well-being of the world.
The line-up includes legends like Kalaimamani Udaiyalur K Kalyanaraman, Kovai S Jayaraman and OS Sundar.
The song that has been chosen is a 17th century composition by the legendary Saint-Poet Sri Narayana Theertha. The song, Kshemam Kuru Gopala, is set to the raag Mohanam and each singer renders a part of the song in their trademark styles. The 10 minute rendition under the title of Nama Sangamam (the converging point of devotional music) will premiere on social media channels on Sunday, May 31, 2020. The team behind this initiative is made up of executives from the corporate world and professional singers who have come together under the banner of Nama 2020. The Nama 2020 initiative started during the early days of the current lockdown to take prayer into people's homes through social media. Several leading bhajan singers have performed live on the fb page in the short time since its inception.
