Range is outstanding with that LFP battery, great honest review Tom ,its a pity that other motoring reporters were honest with there reviews and not influenced my advertising dollar
You can see the cumulative consumption number by press the right side top left button on steering wheel and use the roller beside to choose. I did a calculation on power consumption by using the reading on the grid electric meter divided by total km, I got around 18kwh/100km(which is the real world consumption I have to pay to grid) which is about 25% more the what the car shows st 14.7kwh/100km, which means that the car underestimate the power consumption by about 20%.
Is the cumulative consumption for the life of for vehicle though? My wish list includes better drive stats for the trip computer eg efficiency, time and average speed like I’ve seen in other cars I’ve tested Good point about the economy and therefore true price of electricity because as I’m about to show with my upcoming home charging video, 7kW draw from a wall connector only translates to 6.3kW in the car which means there are losses of up to 10%
@@LudicrousFeed Very similar on my charging too, about 10% loss from the charger to the car, but the car doesn't provide enough info on the other 10% loss, could be some loss on battery discharging and some underestimation on the actual power usage.
Thanks for all these informative videos Tom. I will be interesting to see what you would pick btwn the Seal and the new M3 when you get it. The Seal is impressing me more and more.
Those are really good numbers. I'd say that's on par with a new Model 3 LR, if not slightly better. My M3 LR only *just* makes it to 500km on freeways at 110kmh.
Re: breaking in. Although you don’t have an internal combustion engine there are still bearings, bushes, reduction gears and fluid systems that need sympathetic management. Everything has manufacturing tolerances.
Maybe next time consider the quicker scenic route 33 via Calga exit, Peatks Ridge, Central Mangrove And Wollombi. Some lovely small wineries around Broke. I live at Laguna near Wollombi. A good road test.
Great video Tom, the only thing I would change on driver display is the consumption meter with all that + to - going on its too busy & constantly catching your eye? Maybe I'm just used to having the range there in the Kia. Do you find a big difference when you drive any of the Teslas re cabin noise if you've just come out of the Seal?
Yes there’s a lot more road noise coming into the cabin when driving a Tesla, even the new Model 3. I did a comparison in this video: 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland Update vs BYD Seal Premium Australia ua-cam.com/video/YAaKVAST3w4/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing, very useful. I purchased the BYD seal premium last week. Could you please explain the details of the SIM card slot and how effective it is?
Tom, an idea for a future video would be to test your car along a standardised 50km stretch of highway at 110km/h, 105 and 100 (113/108/103 in your car) to compare the efficiency of the different speeds. It will be useful for those who may need to stretch out their range to avoid charging for a particular long trip and help them see the range gains differences between the 3 speeds. It’s probably not worth testing a speed of 95km/h as it then becomes unsafe to drive that much under the speed limit in a 110 zone.
TeslaBjorn(Bjorn Nyland) does a 90kmph and 120kmph range test which may help, he also does to dead tests where he drives until the car stops and sees how big a buffer if any the battery has below 0%
Back in the 1970s you often used to see ICE cars (well they were all ICE cars in those days) with a hand drawn sign attached to the back bumper saying 'Running In' to warn you the driver would be driving well below the speed limit and accelerating slowly.
after owning the premium model, do you ever regret not getting the performance model? also, have you found any more reasons that reinforce your decision on buying the premium model?
No regrets at all. I’ve owned a performance model 3 previously so I’ve had my fun already 👍😉 In Sport mode, the Premium it’s fast enough for me in Sydney traffic 🥂
Hi Tom, I finally get to pick up my M3 rwd plus on Monday. I'm shopping around for Energy providers that have better rates for EV charging. I notice that you are using Power Shop, (10c kwh off peak between 12 and 4am. The Ovo energy have an EV rate of 8c kwh between 12 and 6am. Plus 8c feed in tariff and a general tarrif of 31.57c kwh. I don't have a powerwall so I presume your on a TOU tarrif. I'd appreciate any feed back. Thanks Garry
Full disclosure as mentioned in an earlier video, I’m still on Powershop because I have a lot of accumulated credit from generous viewers who have used my referral 🙏
Yup! A significant OTA was released which made ADAS features far more tolerable: BYD Seal OTA Software Update 2401 V1.1 Australia Walkthrough and Drive ua-cam.com/video/CQwmDVC7auM/v-deo.html
What happens if you hold the cruise control speed button up and hold it down. My Subaru alters speed set by 1km in slow increments, when just pressing it once goes 5km/h each time.
How’ve you found the stability of CarPlay in the Seal, Tom? I came very close to leasing a base model Seal - having the charging door on the right, versus the left, was the deal breaker. Glad you’re enjoying it. 👍🙂
CarPlay is rock solid 💪 Only gripe is not being able to swipe to move for any nav apps eg Waze or Maps - it requires using the little arrows which is not ideal while driving
The 1st 2k on Eco, is apparently the deals test drive car battery health went down a bit (max range went went from 650 to 645 100% charge) after everyone went on perfomance and hit the pedal for the accelaration testing lol
@dizheng7913 The initial small range drop is common in all EVs due to a phenomenon called Solid Electrolyte Interphase passivation which stabilises the battery and prevents further degradation
Another great video. Question, have you had any issues charging your seal using the tesla gen 3 charger? I'm thinking of getting one installed for my seal as well.
I’d didn’t realise you had to protect the battery for Solid Electrolyte Interphase passivation? How could you honestly tell if the previous owner had or hadn’t driven slowly in the first 2000km??
@@LudicrousFeed There is a computer in the car with an Internet connection that logs stuff and reports back to BYD. I am sure BYD could potentially deny a warranty claim if the run in instruction is not followed. I have a Atto, the manual is enormous with a lot of fine print. My vehicle is well run in but I try to stick as carefully as I can to the vehicle's operating restrictions, there are a few of these hidden away in the documentation.
Ok I'll try to find out more info to see if firstly they really can retrieve this kind of data and secondly they would potentially enact a warranty denial based on this. Given as you know of course that we have very strong ACL consumer protection in this country
@@LudicrousFeed According to BYD all data concerning the Australian fleet is held on a server located in Lane Cove. I drive my son's Atto he has the BYD and Apple apps for this car on his phone, he can track just about everything I do. If he can do it presumably BYD can also.
Press the menu button on the steering wheel and it should be the first thing that pops up if it's not already there. You can scroll between past 50km and cumulative lifetime efficiency

I’m sure your video’s Tom really help those who have bought/buying a Seal or BYD or any EV for that matter to become accustomed to how EV’s operate and hopefully helps to dispel some of the garbage that is sprouted by the EV laggards.
For your question, there is a break in period to every mechanical part of the car that includes the transmission reduction gear, also for the bearings of everything from the electrical engine to the wheels etc... also the car's breaks need burn in and the suspension. they shed small metal particles when they are new and reshape their surfaces. so do it gently for the first 1000 miles. *also the rubber of the wheels need first 300km to reshape its surface for best traction. bare that in mind.
Thanks Tom. I asked the staff about the eco thing when picking my Atto 3, and they said "nah! Just drive it normally. there's nothing to break in." In my opinion, they put it in all their manuals because they have a lot of hybrid models, mainly in China.
Probably not much difference in efficiency because on the highway, the AWD variant will most likely only be using the Rear motors when travelling at a constant speed
Thanks for the video! I also did a long range high speed test in my Seal Premium. Headwinds matter, and I suspect that your return trip had a headwind hence slightly less efficient. My trip south gave a projected range of 460km, and the return was 550km. Because of a strong headwind! Also, ECO mode is encouraged on the freeway. You won’t notice any difference there, I don’t reckon. I’ve also driven down to VIC and back from Sydney. I’m comfortable with 300km segments and taking 2-3 30 min breaks to charge. The 500km+ range enables this. Again though, headwinds matter for any car. I’d encourage people to consider them in a trip.
Merci pour toutes vos vidéos que je regarde et qui sont très intéressantes et me conforte dans mon achat de la Seal en 4 roues motrices que j'attends pour début mars en France.
My theory behind the "eco mode for 2km" methodology is more aimed at YOU being new to how the car feels and goes. Considering they are quite fast, I think they would be wanting to avoid a reputation of people crashing them soon after purchase.
Watching you flick between AC controls and WAZE begs the question why do they not allow 2 screens at once in vertical screen orientation. WAZE top half of the screen and AC controls on the bottom.
Yup agreed although it’s been made slightly more user friendly since this OTA update: Wireless Apple CarPlay BYD Seal OTA Software Update 2403 V1.2 Review ua-cam.com/video/9jMvjwz0-dQ/v-deo.html
Have just commenced looking at YT, EV videos. Yours are very informing. However, I have one major criticism, in this, and other videos, a huge amount of time is taken up looking at the large screen, would hate to see other drivers stop dead in front of you. Also, not everyone owns, or runs their lives by an Iphone. On these extended drives, am very interested in driver/passenger comfort, interior noise, and for many people who do these drives, there is just no need to be mega focussed on the ?? ""Ways" screen. Having driven interstate, not to mention within Victoria, for many years, I actually know where I am going and road signage is, now, vastly improved and shows the way, without the need, again, to quite worryingly taking your eyes off the road so often, to look at this screen. Others may disagree, however I think this is the start of a good longer distance , and extended version could easily focus on the matters referred to above.
Appreciate the feedback and yes it’s important to also comment on the comfort of other passengers 👍 and yes can confirm my family enjoy sitting in the back ❤️
Thank you very much for the video. This is exactly what I needed to see. The range and efficiency is perfect. I found your video based on another video of yours. When I searched for a video called BYD Seal, I did not find your video - I recommend changing the name of the video to BYD Seal range test. I have subscribed and am following. I bought a BYD Atto 3 Design a month ago and I'm satisfied, but Seal will probably be next in line. I've been driving on electricity since February 2016. 1) Peugeot iOn 2) Hyundai ioniq 28kWh 3) Tesla Model 3 Performance 4) Škoda Citigoe 5) Tesla Model S85 6) Dacia Spring 7) BYD Atto 3 Design
The more of your content u watch the more I'm in love with this car. First knew of your channel when you tested the Atto 3 across the Sydney Harbour. This video shows the car is efficient enough for me to drive from Bulawayo to Harare (439km). Harare has EV charging stations so return trip isn't an issue. Thanks for all the work you're doing to help us gain perspective.
You're making me regret buying the atto 3 😭 Love my Atto but the Seal looks so much better . . . Way better battery and efficiency, my extended range needs topping up every 250km or so on the freeway. I've found the ACC behaves slightly better if you set Regen to Standard instead of high. More efficient in town that way too. Brake pedal gives you good regen anyway.
@@LudicrousFeedI don't think they meant the regen is better, just that the driving experience (with ACC) is better. And that even if you use the brake pedal, you get the same sort of regen as if you had it set to high. I think that's what they meant, anyway.
I believe you can access the air-conditioning controls from the steering wheel by pressing the back button. Like your videos they go that bit further (literally) than the average ev review 😊
If the Wineries and other destinations install even low rate destination chargers, spenders will be encouraged to buy an ice-cream, coffee etc rather than just going past. Win, win I say As batteries age that reassurance adds value.
Top notch vid again Tom. Once the software is refined it is going to be a pretty special car at its price point. Very happy with mine. Loving the Sealy content 👌
19:10 i think it really depends on the state I know in Queensland its very convient and well thought out for DC and ac Chargers and most are under cover in shopping centers.
Thanks for testing Tom - I hope BYD give the ability to use vertical android auto and CarPlay. Would be great if it could make the top half AA/CP and the bottom half aircon controls or something else useful in vertical.
That's actually a magnificent suggestion. And that's the beauty of having displays like this - the (potential) ability to change/skin our displays, or at the very least, allow the manufacturer to send out ota updates to make changes like you've suggested. The screen is so big, BYD could permanently place HVAC controls as a strip at the bottom of the screen (or RHS). Going through menus to reach HVAC controls will be the biggest gripe people will have with these vehicles for a while to come.
About to buy a Performance model April/May. Also in Sydney. Have a quick question I hope, you can confirm. Lots of reviews, especially in the EU show the seats as vegan “leather”. However, BYD AU website says genuine leather, Nappa from what I’ve read. Can you confirm if they are indeed real leather here in Australian delivered models? Love the videos, subscribed as I love your impartial real opinions on the vehicles you buy and/or test. Cheers in advance!
Thanks for all the answers! It’s much appreciated! Just one last one before I pick ours up. Can you charge these at Teslas Superchargers? If so do we need an adapter? Cheers in advance!
At present (Mar 2024) you can charge at select V2 Tesla superchargers (always check the Tesla app). However there is a known compatibility issue with V3 stalls which I and other Seal owners have been pressing BYD about. No adaptor required otherwise
My Toyota Prius is set at -4km/hr, and my after-market HUD is set to -15km/hr for some bizarre reason. It means I'm constantly doing maths while I'm driving but it's very useful for not getting speeding tickets!
My guess is bedding in brakes for the 1000km gentler driving advise. The Seal is heavier than a Tesla M3 and has softer regen (I think?), so load on brakes would be more ... let the pads wear in for longer life, maybe?
BYD although does not have one pedal driving still uses regen braking when the brakes are pressed hence the pads are mostly spared Check out my explanation with the Atto 3: 2023 BYD ATTO 3 HANDLING AND REGENERATIVE BRAKING EXPLAINED AUSTRALIA ua-cam.com/video/uIf2a7O5MFQ/v-deo.html

Range is outstanding with that LFP battery, great honest review Tom ,its a pity that other motoring reporters were honest with there reviews and not influenced my advertising dollar
Thanks! I try to be a as transparent a I can with my vlogs
Another fantastic useful video, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
FYI tou can turn off "other wazers" in Waze settings, declutter some of those icons!
Oh ok I’ll try it!
My wish list includes better drive stats for the trip computer eg efficiency, time and average speed like I’ve seen in other cars I’ve tested
Good point about the economy and therefore true price of electricity because as I’m about to show with my upcoming home charging video, 7kW draw from a wall connector only translates to 6.3kW in the car which means there are losses of up to 10%
@@LudicrousFeed Very similar on my charging too, about 10% loss from the charger to the car, but the car doesn't provide enough info on the other 10% loss, could be some loss on battery discharging and some underestimation on the actual power usage.
Thanks for all these informative videos Tom. I will be interesting to see what you would pick btwn the Seal and the new M3 when you get it. The Seal is impressing me more and more.
I’ve officially cancelled my Model 3 order
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks, I wasn’t aware. Is that because u r happy with the Seal?
Happy with the Seal 🙏
Lots to explore
Those are really good numbers. I'd say that's on par with a new Model 3 LR, if not slightly better.
My M3 LR only *just* makes it to 500km on freeways at 110kmh.
I was pleasantly surprised given that Tesla hold the unofficial title of being the kings of efficiency
15KWH/100kms... that's impressive
Not bad right!
good to see traffic laws are being adhered to with one handed driving and recording with in traffic
I'm waiting for a decent looking pair of sunglasses with 4K video recording, decent low light functionality and rock solid digital image stabilisation
Re: breaking in. Although you don’t have an internal combustion engine there are still bearings, bushes, reduction gears and fluid systems that need sympathetic management. Everything has manufacturing tolerances.
@@michaelzerk cheers
Maybe next time consider the quicker scenic route 33 via Calga exit, Peatks Ridge, Central Mangrove And Wollombi. Some lovely small wineries around Broke. I live at Laguna near Wollombi. A good road test.
Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
Great video Tom, the only thing I would change on driver display is the consumption meter with all that + to - going on its too busy & constantly catching your eye? Maybe I'm just used to having the range there in the Kia. Do you find a big difference when you drive any of the Teslas re cabin noise if you've just come out of the Seal?
Yes there’s a lot more road noise coming into the cabin when driving a Tesla, even the new Model 3. I did a comparison in this video: 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland Update vs BYD Seal Premium Australia
ua-cam.com/video/YAaKVAST3w4/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing, very useful. I purchased the BYD seal premium last week. Could you please explain the details of the SIM card slot and how effective it is?

Good test Thanks Tom.
Any time!
Good suggestion 👍
Back in the 1970s you often used to see ICE cars (well they were all ICE cars in those days) with a hand drawn sign attached to the back bumper saying 'Running In' to warn you the driver would be driving well below the speed limit and accelerating slowly.
Save you getting horned for driving slowly 😅
can i ask how you like the car after havign it for a while now.! i am in serious thinking box of getting it my self the 4x4 top model here in Norway.
Here’s my 6 month review: Six Months Later BYD Seal Australia Ownership Update and Review 2024
ua-cam.com/video/INuMazD5vLA/v-deo.html
after owning the premium model, do you ever regret not getting the performance model?
also, have you found any more reasons that reinforce your decision on buying the premium model?
No regrets at all. I’ve owned a performance model 3 previously so I’ve had my fun already 👍😉
In Sport mode, the Premium it’s fast enough for me in Sydney traffic 🥂
Thanks Tom
I guess the software is already updated? Less problems with ADAS?
Yup! A significant OTA was released which made ADAS features far more tolerable: BYD Seal OTA Software Update 2401 V1.1 Australia Walkthrough and Drive
ua-cam.com/video/CQwmDVC7auM/v-deo.html
Hi Tom, loving the reviews. We have Model Y which I believe has the same battery LFP as the Seal? The Seal manual says to fully charge from
Yes I would also do the same for a Tesla purely for battery management system calibration so that you have a more accurate projected range
I would be interesting to see if it’s stable all the way down to 0% as a Tesla or if it goes to limp mode or something other weird stuff the last 5-0%
From experience having driven it to 1% in the Atto 3, power is limited in the final few % as seen in my video: ua-cam.com/video/wo9u53VmLpY/v-deo.html
What happens if you hold the cruise control speed button up and hold it down. My Subaru alters speed set by 1km in slow increments, when just pressing it once goes 5km/h each time.
I tried that, it doesn’t go up by 1, from memory it just goes up faster by 5 … I’ll have to double check
How’ve you found the stability of CarPlay in the Seal,
Tom? I came very close to leasing a base model Seal - having the charging door on the right, versus the left, was the deal breaker. Glad you’re enjoying it. 👍🙂
CarPlay is rock solid 💪
Only gripe is not being able to swipe to move for any nav apps eg Waze or Maps - it requires using the little arrows which is not ideal while driving
The 1st 2k on Eco, is apparently the deals test drive car battery health went down a bit (max range went went from 650 to 645 100% charge) after everyone went on perfomance and hit the pedal for the accelaration testing lol
Hmm I still think it’s just a vestige of their petrol based hybrid manuals that they’ve copied and pasted over to their BEVs
@@LudicrousFeed may be but that’s what dealer told me when I picked up mine
@dizheng7913 The initial small range drop is common in all EVs due to a phenomenon called Solid Electrolyte Interphase passivation which stabilises the battery and prevents further degradation
i did camden to terrigal over the xmas break exactly 50% going there and 40% coming home
Good job!
Another great video. Question, have you had any issues charging your seal using the tesla gen 3 charger? I'm thinking of getting one installed for my seal as well.
I use my Tesla Gen 3 wall connector to charge my Seal regularly
Nice video..
👍
Suggested power restriction
Have you done the same test with M3 SR highland?
Not specifically with the Highland but have done many range tests with the Model 3
Great video! How you keep the efficiency on the small screen in front of you?
Press the menu button on the steering wheel and it should be the first thing that pops up if it's not already there. You can scroll between past 50km and cumulative lifetime efficiency
Where is part 2 ?
Life gets busy … 😁
But don’t stress, I’ll be posting a longer range test soon 🙏
Thank u, will be waiting patiently
@@LudicrousFeed
Does BYD include full self-driving capability?
No
0:56 Nice 😎
😅
Do you think if you drive on eco mode the consumption rate kw per 100km will be better?
Probably worth doing the same test another day 👍
Very nice range, thinking of changing from the Atto 3 to the Seal Premium.
If you’re after a Sedan, the Seal is a very good option 👍
Hey Tom. I really hope you weren’t holding the camera as you went past Mt White weigh station. The camera gantry there checks drivers for hand held phones. You may receive an unpleasant letter in the mail soon if so.
I wonder if they issue infringements for cameras that aren’t phones? 🤔
@@LudicrousFeed Yes they do. And it’s a pain to prove them wrong. Google ‘Le snack defence’ as my link to that infamous example keeps getting deleted. 😕
So, it has your seal of approval 😏

Thanks for the video. I will have been hanging to see a real world BYD Seal range & efficiency test.
Extra bonus got to see you drive on my local roads in the Hunter Valley 👍🏻
It had to be done so I did it 😁
The exterior design of Seal is designed by JuanMa Lopez from Lamborghini and the interior is designed by Michele Paganetti from Mercedes Maybach
I’m sure your video’s Tom really help those who have bought/buying a Seal or BYD or any EV for that matter to become accustomed to how EV’s operate and hopefully helps to dispel some of the garbage that is sprouted by the EV laggards.
If you don’t need to charge for a day trip then that’ll make it compelling for drivers to switch from ICE
*also the rubber of the wheels need first 300km to reshape its surface for best traction. bare that in mind.
ok noted
Thanks Tom. I asked the staff about the eco thing when picking my Atto 3, and they said "nah! Just drive it normally. there's nothing to break in." In my opinion, they put it in all their manuals because they have a lot of hybrid models, mainly in China.
I KNEW IT! I knew it had to be a copy paste job from their hybrid cars 😆
Hello, great video. How much would the AWD Performance differ in terms of highway efficiency?
Thanks
Yes headwinds matter absolutely
Merci pour toutes vos vidéos que je regarde et qui sont très intéressantes et me conforte dans mon achat de la Seal en 4 roues motrices que j'attends pour début mars en France.
👍🙏
My theory behind the "eco mode for 2km" methodology is more aimed at YOU being new to how the car feels and goes. Considering they are quite fast, I think they would be wanting to avoid a reputation of people crashing them soon after purchase.
Or it could just be a vestige from their hybrid car manuals ie. copy & paste
Watching you flick between AC controls and WAZE begs the question why do they not allow 2 screens at once in vertical screen orientation. WAZE top half of the screen and AC controls on the bottom.
Yup agreed although it’s been made slightly more user friendly since this OTA update: Wireless Apple CarPlay BYD Seal OTA Software Update 2403 V1.2 Review

Thank you for the feedback and glad you enjoyed the video 👍
BYD voice control is good, much better than Tesla but way weaker than Huawei, Li Xiang, Xpeng and nio
Interesting!
Li Auto has MindGPT voice control after OTA5 update, kind of most smart voice system in SOP cars@@LudicrousFeed
My pleasure! The Seal really is quite an efficient vehicle 👍
A little off-topic, but did I see your radio tuned to a Singapore station?
Yeah we like to listen to 987 Singapore sometimes as a family ... pretend we're on holidays 😁
Australia needs change the motorway highway speed limit to 120 or 130. Pathetic its still 110..police need to do some things to change it to higher
I’d say the speed limits are based on crash and fatality statistics
@@LudicrousFeed They are changing the new west connex to 90 instead 80. Feels like a snails pace in those tunnuls.
What is the average speed for 15,5kwh/100km ?
On the highway I was traveling mostly at 100kph+
You're making me regret buying the atto 3 😭
Love my Atto but the Seal looks so much better . . . Way better battery and efficiency, my extended range needs topping up every 250km or so on the freeway.
I've found the ACC behaves slightly better if you set Regen to Standard instead of high. More efficient in town that way too. Brake pedal gives you good regen anyway.
Interesting about the regen being better on standard … I’ll have to try that
@@LudicrousFeedI don't think they meant the regen is better, just that the driving experience (with ACC) is better. And that even if you use the brake pedal, you get the same sort of regen as if you had it set to high. I think that's what they meant, anyway.
@@hargeaux ah yes I reread the comment cheers
I believe you can access the air-conditioning controls from the steering wheel by pressing the back button. Like your videos they go that bit further (literally) than the average ev review 😊
Thanks! Yes that’s true - that’s also a bit fiddly cycling through the menus …
If the Wineries and other destinations install even low rate destination chargers, spenders will be encouraged to buy an ice-cream, coffee etc rather than just going past. Win, win I say
As batteries age that reassurance adds value.
I’d say many of the wineries and guest houses in the Hunter Valley now have AC chargers … check out PlugShare
Top notch vid again Tom. Once the software is refined it is going to be a pretty special car at its price point. Very happy with mine. Loving the Sealy content 👌
Thanks! Hopefully we’ll see some decent updates
My Atto 3 is very good at keeping the ACC speed, unlike my Honda CRV that would race down hills defeating the purpose.
I feel your frustration with cars that don’t keep their CC speed tightly
BYD center screen you can use split mode and vertical, top use Navi and lower half use music, love it
Yes that’s a handy function for sure
19:10 i think it really depends on the state I know in Queensland its very convient and well thought out for DC and ac Chargers and most are under cover in shopping centers.
Shopping centre carparks are a two edged sword … if you’re new to the area they can be a maze to find because they’re often not well signed
Thanks for testing Tom - I hope BYD give the ability to use vertical android auto and CarPlay. Would be great if it could make the top half AA/CP and the bottom half aircon controls or something else useful in vertical.
That would actually be quite handy - split screen mode
That's actually a magnificent suggestion. And that's the beauty of having displays like this - the (potential) ability to change/skin our displays, or at the very least, allow the manufacturer to send out ota updates to make changes like you've suggested.
The screen is so big, BYD could permanently place HVAC controls as a strip at the bottom of the screen (or RHS). Going through menus to reach HVAC controls will be the biggest gripe people will have with these vehicles for a while to come.
Come on? You're not fooling me - it was totally deliberate... ;)
What was deliberate?

Totally serendipitous 😜
The seal has probably the best range and it’s a LFP pack!

Yeah it has lane centering but it’s nothing on Tesla Autopilot
About to buy a Performance model April/May. Also in Sydney. Have a quick question I hope, you can confirm. Lots of reviews, especially in the EU show the seats as vegan “leather”. However, BYD AU website says genuine leather, Nappa from what I’ve read. Can you confirm if they are indeed real leather here in Australian delivered models? Love the videos, subscribed as I love your impartial real opinions on the vehicles you buy and/or test. Cheers in advance!
Thanks! Fairly certain it’s genuine leather in the Premium/Performance trim for both seats and steering as per specs
15! How weird
My guess is bedding in brakes for the 1000km gentler driving advise. The Seal is heavier than a Tesla M3 and has softer regen (I think?), so load on brakes would be more ... let the pads wear in for longer life, maybe?
BYD although does not have one pedal driving still uses regen braking when the brakes are pressed hence the pads are mostly spared

Absolutely, it’s a fantastic and very doable day trip in this car
Thanks Tom, really good to see what looks like a genuine 500km highway kms based on your drive, and the other comments on here. Our roads in South Island NZ hillier so will be interested to see what we get (my M3 did 14.5kWh/100km on last roadie so maybe 15.5 like you saw)
Yeah great to see others are getting similar range. The M1 is fairly undulating though especially closer to Sydney as others can also attest!
Hi tom hows the seal handle the bending road up the mountainafter Mooney mooney bridge, by the way very impressive with the seal efficiency and keeping the power up the hill. Will get a seal in few years time.
No problem with the handling 💪

I don't know what all the fuss is about, it can't be that hard to make a rail crossing level. Just jokes, it's a good looking car in the flesh so it's nice to see it's not just looks.
😆🚂
Efficiency looks good 👍 a bit of finessing and it will be a great car. Needs the 5kph increments sorted and no servicing!
Yeah that’s right, a few refinements and it will be good
Why are there so many other videos showing the seal range at sub 400km? Whatcar in uk etc, is it weather etc?
Depends on which variant they used as the base “Dynamic” variant only has 60kWh capacity
