Mine doesn't even show up on disk management. Also, every minute or so it makes a weird tick noise. Not a continuous clicking noise. Help! With mine when I plug it in once out of every 20 times it shows up. Once i do click on it and try to remove files to my laptop it freezes.

You are a life saver. Your instructions worked perfectly. I bought a new 4 TB Seagate that would not show up. I tried everything but couldn't get my computer to recognize it. I followed what you said and my computer now sees 1/2 of my drive. I see that for whatever reason, it partitioned my external drive. I assigned a name for the first half and I will name the second half when I need to. Thank you again.
when i click OK on the initialize disk i get a I/O ERROR message come up which stops me from going into volume wizard why am i having this problem could u please help me its a 1TB WD Elements external HRD i have also attached print screens of both pages as well please help thank you
Your a life saver. I wanted to use one of my external drives for a linux operating system and it didn't work. Then when I went to use the drive it didn't show up. I tried lots of videos but all did nothing apart from yours which actually fixed my problem. This has saved by money on buying another 4TB drive which would have cost a lot of money. Thank you
is there any ways to make it become open without wiping it. i really need the stuff on my drive but my drive is primary partition so i cant change anything on it.
This ended up not fixing the issue I was having - I too found an old WD drive which seemed to work but didn't install drivers right, and I can't find that driver anywhere - but I just wanted to write you and say I appreciated your matter-of-fact teaching method and how easy this video was to understand. I definitely learned a couple of things.
So, my problem is slightly different. My Passport WAS WORKING with my laptop, no problem and it continues to work on *other computers*. My Passport no longer shows up in Disk Manager and the "DISK PART: list disk" only shows my primary hard disk. In Device Manager, however, I do have an "Unknown USB Device" show up when I plug in this drive.
I have to say, I followed your video on how to get around/ bypass the login window because of forgotten password and it was amazing! Worked like a charm, easy to follow, and , even as an MCP( Microsoft Certified Professional ), it was new info. Looking forward to more of your “discoveries” in the world of Computing. 👨🏼💻
OMG!!! Thank you so much Sir!!! My wife and I used my 2TB WD Passport on a mac and then tried to use it on my Pc and nothing would work because the hard drive was formatted for Mac. This completely fixed the problem. You definitely earned a new subscriber and fan. Thank you for the amazing research and tutorial!
Dude, mine says, after entering 'clean' at the disk part, "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of I/O device error. See the System Event Log for more information." What to do next?
HI. Mine cant be seen either. When I list Diskpart my "WD my passport" is listed as Size 0 and Free ). When I tri to start it in disk manager, it gives the following message: The request could not be performed bacause of an I/O device error.
THANK YOU !!!!!! I messed around for nearly half a day to solve this problem until I found your PERFECT STEP BY STEP Instructions. So UN GRAND MERCI from France. Best, FM
I fixed this by going to device manager- right clicking on "disk drives" and selecting "scan for hardware changes", this got the External HDD to show up.
this is the ONLY video tutorial that I actually could follow and it worked when someone has a very comprehensive knowledge of something only than can they teach GOOD JOB
Or, make life simpler and follow my instructions. 1: go to start menu 2: right click on computer 3: select Manage (click ok or accept if a prompt comes up) 4: go to storage▶️disk management 5: Click on the selected drive below and select the option necessary for your task. 6: restart the computer after your done and your done
I followed this and it found my drive and I formatted it again and it added J, K, & L, but J seems to be the correct Drive! Should I leave K and L on my list in the Computer?
You made my night son, I just installed a SSD hard drive into my Dell Vostro 430b and I could not find the drive if my life depended on it. Thanks to your video it was a piece of cake.
Thanks a lot. I was facing this problem since a year. Today I am able to connect my external hard drive to my 12 years old computer. Thanks aging. Keep it up.
Thank you very much for a well done tutorial. I just received a new 1TB WD My Passport external drive and I did not see it listed. I knew there was a way to do this but I had forgotten how. You just made my day.
I've actually helped a friend recovered her dead hard drive before she threw it in the bin. After following all these steps I used another program for data recovery. She got all her family photos back! Thanks again!
I was so immensely frustrated with a drive a friend gave me (previously used on a Mac) and this fixed it! Thank you so so much!!!!! I appreciate the pace you used too. I'm pretty computer savvy but I appreciated that you checked often to make sure no one destroyed their OS in the process. :) I was able to follow along with the video and do the steps with you. One note, my disk was 3TB and I had to click the GPT option for it to work properly. The first time it made only 2TB of the drive usable, but I redid the process with that option and it worked. I can't thank you enough!
Oh! Wow! I followed your instructions and there is my drive! Thank you so much! I am soo happy about this video! Thank you so much! Great job!!! I did something that my son and my husband couldn't help me with. Now I got one on them! Thank you!

Thank YOU! I have been researching for an hour trying to figure it out how to get it back to my PC. I have the WD external ultra passport and I can't believe how frustrating it has been since my purchased. The software backup sucks, relied on File History and it still does not back up everything, so I'm sticking with manual. Then this problem showed up and it's ridiculous what you have to do if you're not tech savvy. This device should be simple, especially in investing one of these. I read you can change the letter but I wasn't sure how to if I can't see it. Changing the drive letter worked for me! Thank you!

I got a new WD Element 2TB drive and wanted to get a ton of photos of my old windows 8 PC onto the drive and then to my new Mac. The Mac recognized the drive after a little work but the PC wouldn't show it except for in disk management, but I still could not assign the drive a letter. After your video I have a successfully labeled drive! Thanks much!
ME TOO.... great detail... this is how a "tutorial video" SHOULD be done !! All other videos on U Tube are done so [ fast ] that you miss 98% of the info... GREAT JOB !!
Just want to tell you I followed the instructions as you was saying it. Amazingly I fixed my hard drive that I purchased and didn't work. Thank you so much! 3 THUMBS UP!
Your tutorial video is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I did followed your instructions step by step and worked just like it supposed to be like new. Thanks a bunch man!
you are absolutly brilliant. i bought a sata 3.5 2tb hard drive for a cyclone primus from amazon and my computer would not recognize the drive, so i found your video and followed your instructions and it worked. so i just have to say thank you loads.
Thank's a ton man! Searched for the solution for ages. Actually skipped your video once because it started with you recording your screen with a camera but then you actually had a screen recorder :D
Thank you for the video. You explained everything so well for me to getting my WD My Passport 1TB to be recognized on my Windows 7. I had been working on this for endless hours. I followed you to the end and got it done the first time and it work great. I was very excited to accomplish this task and thank you so much!
Your procedure solved my problem stemming from a sealed-new drive preformatted for Mac that behaved exactly as your dumpster dive example. Thanks a million.

Again great instructions. - What a life saver!!!
You can do the same thing in the "Disk Management" GUI by right clicking on the primary partition you want to delete and clicking "Delete Volume" and proceeding as Jordan indicates. Thank you for the post!
after years of computer frustration at last someone who is helpful and cautious and brilliant.because it worked.this is the true meaning and intended purpose of the internet to educate the world
OMG, thank you thank you thank you! Already had to find a tutorial to get rid of the USB code 52, then this. I was about to give up hope, and I'm in DESPERATE need of some extra storage. You saved my life tonight. Thank you!
Thank you very much! This helped me have my computer recognize my brand new 4TB western digital on windows 10. Thankfully as soon as I opened Admin tools then disk management it automatically popped up to initialize it. It's crazy that it doesn't do that automatically.
Thanks for the video! I had a hard drive that I removed from a PS4 and put in a HDD enclosure that wouldn't show up on my PC. Following the steps in your video, I was able to get it working!
Hey you are THE BEST..... you just solved my issue. My harddisk wasnt getting detected and it was asking for formatting it. I already had a letter assigned to it and just right clicked on it and selected the option that says "make partition as Active" and bammmmm.... it started working.... Thank you so so much....
Thank you so much. I thought I was going to have way more trouble then it was. It's very important to explain everything if one mistake is made it could wipe the main drive.
You rule brother. I hate Windows but I had to use it with my WD. I have been using my WD for the last 4 years with Mac and Linux and I didn't have a single issue. Today I had to use it on Windows 7 and it wasn't showing up on My Computer. You brother, saved my life. :) Thanks a lot
My Toshiba had a letter assigned to it (G), but still wasn't showing up in My Computer. I used your info on how to assign/change the letter. I renamed it "T" for....you guessed it....Toshiba. The computer gave me a warning message first saying some drives might not like being assigned a different letter. I did it anyway, (since I had the material backed up on another drive), and it works fine. Thanks for the well-explained video!
Hello I didn't think I would find a video to help but I did thank you so much you explained it very well very satisfied with results now I got my 2tb WD passport ultra working Thank you very much!
Bruh. I just spent an entire Sunday trying to figure this out and had absolutely zero success.....until I finally stumbled upon this video. Your "Clutch Factor" is easily on par with MJ in the Finals or Joey Chesnutt in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Thank you, you fucking legend.
Thanks for your video. I was having trouble with my 1GB Passport. It just suddenly stopped showing up in the Win10 explorer but was still recognized by the computer. Turns out I just needed it reassign it a drive letter. Cheers!
If your drive is spinning, but is still recognized in disk management the sata adapter may have gone bad just as mine did. I bought a new enclosure on amazon for $10 and now it works.
Hi Bro, thanks to a million. I had a hard time searching to trouble shoot but your video tutorial is great. Now i can access to the portable disk. Thanks for not being selfish but sharing, may many blessings b with you......
Excellent work. Many thanks. Note that one can just leave the Win7 Computer Management/DiskManagement window open, and after "clean" step, do Action/Refesh, then right-click on the Drive #, and do the Format then. Again: many thanks for recovering this drive to working order.
This helped me more than my own IT department! thank you!
This vid helping people after six years. Worked a treat, cheers man

Same here. Did you found a solution?
Did you?
Still having the same problem. The only way I am able to access the files is by plugging the drive to a system running Ubuntu. There it is detected.
I have the same problem. Maybe its possible to restore the data after wiping it?!

absolute legend, this tutorial is relevant till this day
You just ended my unbelievably painful struggle with this Hard drive!!! Thankssss!
THIS helped me with my passport. Thank you so much!!!
This is the legit problem solver. Thanks for your video I was able to use my Hard drive across my devices.
Wow great teacher!!! My Seagate is finally working fine. Tks a million.
