    Wow.I am an AC/DC fan of over 40 years and you have nailed it. My favourite AC/DC albums are also Powerage and Flick of the Switch. In the days of cassettes I had one on one side, and the other on the other side. Brilliant examples of both (great) singers in their own rights. 👍👍

      @twangersturntable  Рік тому +1

      I had many cassettes just like that too. Those 90 min blanks were perfect for having 2 lps on one tape...mostly. Flick has always been my fave from the Johnson era, since it's release, and Powerage was likely the 1st I had on cassette once they were released here in North America. Both are still played the most. Much appreciate you watching and commenting. Cool hearing everyone's background stories in relation to these classics. Thank you. Cheers man! 🍻 ✌️🤘⚡️🤘

    Wow some excellent selections there! Thanks for giving props to those fine metal bands that seem to go unappreciated by many rock fans. Most of all I love the fact that you put no duds in your list; everybody’s list has one or two that make you say, “WTF?” And Physical Graffiti is the best double album ever made! Nice list.

    Hey DoubleT…Glad to step up on board ya R&R Ship here!…Wow, “Stained Class” (1978) is a real stunner for sure, awesome pick there…Like Sabbath’s debut in 1970, NOBODY was doing this type of thing but The Priest, really music from an alternative universe!…They sound better with each passing year…I reach for IM’s “Somewhere In Time”(1986) more than just about any release in their legendary catalog, truly a towering achievement in every respect by the band…Be talkin to ya real soon hopefully!

      @twangersturntable I went fishing with my friend, Dave, as a teenager. He brought a boombox and Screaming for Vengeance on cassette. I was immediately hooked. Priest was my first love in music. The Godzilla of metal. His older brother invited me over a few weeks later for beers and a game of pool. He played British Steel on 8 track. That album solidified things. I became a Judas Priest addict. Then I branched out to appreciate Iron Maiden. Rainbow Rising introduced me to Dio shortly after. I went down the NWBHM rabbit hole. Fully committed.

      Thank you Steve. Just a few of my faves, but definitely heavy rotation these past few years since re-aquired on vinyl. Always had them on other formats, but I think if memory serves me the thread was about a person most listened to in the past year, 2, 10, or lifetime. It was very open to interpretation or ones prerogative if I recall. Thank you for taking the time bud. Cheers! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘

      I can relate to that man. So many great memories of the people, places, and the things one has experienced associated with these classic artist and groups. Honestly, those are the things I think about when listening and sharing. The loved ones whom are either past on (R.I.P.) or still with us and maybe living afar. Or those who are fortunate enough to hang with in the present and remember these things together and create new memories. Most of the crew I grew up with and shared the Denim and Leather uniforms with, do live quite far away. Anyway. Thank you for watching and sharing Martin. Cheers! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘

    Excellent top albums! Stained Class would be mine for Judas Priest as well. Painkiller was my first (it was new at the time) but Stained Class is the one I keep coming back to. I don't keep track either so I'm not sure what my most spun would be. Haha, I sympathize with you about the threads, there are so many good ones I want to participate in that I don't find the time to make my own ideas for videos. Great video, cheers Mark!

      Hey Scott. Yeah, Priest are one of those bands where I go through phases when I'll reach for a certain lp for months at a time more than others. Defenders was likely the one I spun most in the mid 80's as I checked out when Turbo dropped, but now I totally dig all their albums, even the Ripper stuff. Stained has been spun most for likely the last decade though, which I didn't mention, but that's kinda what I was thinking as I pulled these 10 or so lp's. Thank for stopping by man! Much appreciated. Cheers bud! 🍻 ✌️🤘🎶🤘

    • @twangersturntable
      @twangersturntable  Рік тому +1

      I definitely like The Final Cut. I know it is officially a Pink Floyd album, but unofficially it is a Roger Waters project at that point...even The Wall. As it is mostly comprised of leftovers from The Wall session's.(Cool tidbit you may already know, is the song of the opening scene of the Film "The Wall" is on The Final Cut album - "When The Tigers Broke Free"). The biggest difference being that on The Wall both Wright and Mason played significantly during recording sessions, where as with The Final Cut new material, they did not...with only limited contributions from Mason on drums and nothing from Wright at all whom had left following The Wall sessions (or during depending on who tells the story lol). Gilmour barely played on The Final Cut for that matter...or at least not wholeheartedly according to him. Having said all that, like I said, I actually love the album lol and is part of my vinyl collection. Thank you for stopping by, watching and commenting. I appreciate it. Cheers! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘

      Have always love Powerage! Cliff Willams first on bass after Evans departed and Rudd and Williams just clicked imho. Not that Evans and Rudd didn't...but one can certainly hear the difference (for better or worse as I suppose that is subjective/opinion) from Let There Be Rock to Powerage. Highway was my fave with Bon for many years, but I just seem to grab Powerage more these days. Maybe Highway got overplayed in my circles so it's nice to hear something everyone else isn't blasting! Iron Maiden- Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son
    KISS- Creatures of the Night
    Death Angel- Voracious Souls and Frolic Through the Park
    Forbidden- Twisted into Form
    Black Sabbath- Master of Reality and Heaven and Hell
    Motley Crue- Shout at the Devil and Theatre of Pain
    Ozzy- The Ultimate Sin
    Testament- The Legacy and Souls of Black

      Hey Trevor! Long time man. Good to hear from you. That title track is so freaking awesome! I don't think people give it the props for it's lyrical depth, (certainly for it's time when schizophrenia or split personality was taboo and hush hush, to speak of it maybe suggested one was "crazy") then the production by Max Norman (even though Ozzy and Rhoads are credited as well...that's mostly monetary with the label I believe) the instruments arrangements & complexity, the symphony elements, just wow! Much better sound than Blizzard imho. Subjective, I know. Norman actually produced many of my fave metal albums in the 80's and beyond. Anyway, rambling now. Or maybe just not the patience for it lol. I’d never keep a spreadsheet of what I listen to. Music is all about freedom and feeling. I wasn’t surprised at all by your Elton pick because as you were going through your list I kept thinking “Does he just listen to heavy metal?”. Most people who love music like we do tend to have a little variety so I figured you did too. Physical Graffiti is definitely a great pick. I agree, my love for the first two Maiden albums has only grown over the years. I like your statement about whichever album you are listening to at the moment is your favorite. @twangersturntable  Рік тому

      Hey Gary! Appreciate you stopping by and commenting. This video has actually given me some ideas to create others which is one of the great byproducts of these threads, and more importantly, the people in the vc whom are responsible. Truth is, I've been pretty diverse from the get go, being the second youngest in a family of seven, there was stuff on our turntable from Johnny Cash, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Hank Sr. to Joe Cocker, April Wine, Rush, Rainbow, Queen, Cheap Trick, The Clash, Ramones, to the Commodores, Jackson 5, Richie Havens, Hendrix, and although I didn't necessarily have them on constant rotation, certainly familiar enough to be influenced...then I just leaned towards the heavier stuff. Like you said, I think most music lovers are pretty diversified. Thanks for the kind words and support Gary. I'd love to see more of these pop up. Maybe even ten of your most spun? But yeah, it changes pretty frequently obviously. Cheers bud!🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘

    Dug this episode and you and I would never spar over which song was to be cranked on the radio/turntable/CD player/streamed/cassette/eight track!!! Every single album you talked about is freakin' oxygen for me - essential listening! Just hit 60 yrs. mold, and listening habits still are geared toward the hard and heavy, but have always appreciated a wide spectrum of music, good music in any genre grabs my attention and my taste in music expands as the yrs. go by, as it should. Have about eight thousand CDs and a couple hundred records, as my goal is to eventually own EVERY great album ever made in metal/hard rock/rock/blues/soul/pop/country/rockabilly/funk.
    The chase is almost as good as the catch, hunting down all the killer music thats been produced! You gave great comments about each album and it's cool to see your obvious love of devil music....errt...I mean heavy metal. I am looking to get a much better turntable and get back into collecting vinyl, your album displays on those shelves really is motivating me to get back into vinyl. Hey Brett. I don't even know the criteria or who started it lol! I just thought it was one I could easily get behind. Easily being the operative word! I just kinda mixed in my most heavily (not in terms of sound...that's a different list entirely) spun vinyl recently. Recent, I defined as the past twelve months. That's all. Although I do have some other ideas because of this great thread. Glad you dug it my friend. And yes, The Cars are a band I've loved since my oldest brother first brought home that record in 1978! Like you, I listen to albums, not songs. Though I admit, I have often listened to one side and changed to something else, but never just a song or two. It would be tough to nail this down for me, because sadly, more recent purchases get spun more recently, and time to spend going back and spinning older stuff, is less common these days. I think I could do something like this, but more of an approach of the most frequently go-do album by a band, which sounds maybe similar to your approach. And I'm 100 in agreeance on the whole hair/glam American metal remarks.

      Hey Jeff. For sure there are times I'll listen to a single side lp. But usually it's an artist where I'm listening and think of one of their albums I like better, so I swap lol! I just did that yesterday funny enough. I was playing Combat Rock by Clash and swapped after side one to spin their debut. Never heard the term Hair Metal until the 90's! We sure as hell never coined it. That was a derogatory term I guess. I don't know honestly, but it's irrelevant to me these days. I like what I like and don't shop or listen based on genre. Not a bad choice in the bunch. Many of these would be in my top 10 as well Especially Diary of a Madman. It's such a perfect album, and apparently, it was rushed by Ozzy, and Randy wasn't happy with some of the solos he laid down for it. I can't imagine what he would've come up with given time to arrange the solos differently. Also, Stained Class does not get nearly enough recognition. Halford's vocals are perfect all the way through!!! Appreciate the shoutout, and I feel the same way. Music speaks to me like nothing else can. Mutt Lang is gone, Angus & Malcom pretty much self produced, Rudd was barely able to make the recording sessions...but managed to lay down all necessary tracks before getting fired (Wright appears in videos, but only joined after the lp was wrapped and extensive auditions were held). To me it is great story telling (mostly based on the madness of touring through Back In Black and ...About To Rock) a stripped down, no reverb, raw as AC/DC used to be...and so I've always dug it. A few of those I've been meaning to grab on vinyl as I scan the mom and pop stores but haven't pulled the trigger. Floyd, of course...that's a mainstay. Same for Dire Straits. Television I've heard and really dig. Smiths I don't have, but want. MacLean I have. Nuetral Milk Hotel...need to check them out. The Chameleons I've been curious about. Any suggestions on what lp to start with for The Chameleons? Sufjan Stevens I have never heard of...I don't think. Entertainment I have and really dig that one and hoping to expand the Gang collection. Haven't heard any of Peter Murphys solo or post Bauhaus stuff. And Keith Jarret I am not familiar with at all...but admittedly jazz isn't really my jam. In fact I immediately thought of Leif Garret lol! which album do you like better To Fast for love or Shout at the Devil?
    The magazines like hit parader and Metal edge have Shout at the devil in the top 100 To Fast for love didn't make it and I know the people who work for those magazines know more about music than most people.
    3 vocalist if you want to count axl their main vocalist are Bon Scott and Brian Johnson.
    so you like Powerage over Highway to hell? My favorite Bon Scott album is Highway to hell my favorite Brian John son aare Back in Black and For those about to rock.
    so being Stained class is older than Screaming how was it in your teen years that you like Screaming over Stained class ?

    • @twangersturntable
      @twangersturntable  Рік тому +1

      Hey Mark. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I personally prefer Too Fast For Love, but the margin between my faves are so narrow, it's almost not even worth mentioning. That is exactly why I don't really do rankings of albums by artist...especially artists and musicians I love. I've never put much stock into what journalists/media hype on what they think or their opinions. Whether that was in print back in the day, or music television, which frankly didn't play much of the musoc I dig anyway. Especially back then. Lol! I base my taste on what "I" like, or what appeals to me when I hear it.
      As for AC/DC. I didn't count Axl as he was recruited only for live shows to fill in for Johnson and never recorded any studio albums with AC/DC. This is the similar reason I didn't include their original vocalist Dave Evans, although at least in his case he appeared on their very first studio recording and subsequent 7" single "Can I Sit Next To You, Girl".
      As for Priest. As mentioned above, I find it near impossible to rank albums by bands I truly love, Judas Preists being near the top of that list. This list however, was more about the ten most I've listened to in the past year or two, and in recent years Stained Class has been spun more then Vengeance. But in 1982, I was 14 and Screaming had just come out. I hadn't been into Priest (I had heard of JP, mostly via friends and older siblings with British Steel, Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine and even Stained Class, but I personally didn't own any yet) so that being kind of my formative years in metal, that release just became my fave for many years. As I've said, I believe often ones first album or introduction to a band/artist (especially in those formative years, teens specifically I think) becomes ones favourite just based on a sentimental factors associated with friends, loved ones etc.
