Thanks bud. Not been doing too much running lately, more coaching. I’ve done a few km’s over the years, that’s for sure, but not as many as the van!! Lol
Hi, did you ever look into the split charge relay in the Sargent. I am about to start thinking about wiring mine up and don't have a separate split charge.
I was cleaning the x5 over the road from you last week 🤣 I thought it was you 😅 sorry I should have come say hi. Been watching your videos for my connect, if you see it? Best £320 Ive spent 😎
G Dub TV I know but it had to be done as Im working 7 days a week with detailing on the odd day. Can see your van in the distance on the video ua-cam.com/video/qH5pbvvwqts/v-deo.html Forgot to press record tho... 😤
Thanks for the vid matey! Really helpful! Quick question though, you said you took the +ve of the vehicle battery to the Sargent unit from the front side of the Durite split charge relay. This makes some sense but then you say because it is already protected by a 15amp fuse next to the vehicle battery. Where was this fuse? I thought the split charge fuse was 100amp? Can you explain the 15 amp fuse supplying the Sargent unit in more detail please? Thanks again.
Great video buddy. Picking my units up from northen rose thanka to you for there name. Getting the sargent to thaks to you again and if I die, its not down to you. If the police read this.
Actually, while I'm here,...... conecting the vehicle battery to the ec160, you mentioned that you took the feed from just before the split charge relay. How did you do that (did you use some sort of splitter or another type of relay) finding it hard to get a difinitive answer anywhere on line
Hi Gordon just a quick tip that white 240v junction box it looked like you have too much of the insulation stripped back the cable grips shouldn’t be on the individual wires hope you don’t think I’m being picky just out to help 👍
Hey mate super helpful video thankyou. just wondering what size cable you used to connect the leisure battery to the ec160 as on the unit it only takes a smaller size cable than the bigger ones you made up?
Braver than me buddy I hate mains power but the 12v I could do and your video shows it’s not as daunting as I thought but you must have a plan ahead of what to do
The maximum recommended distance between the mains input (blue plug) and the RCD isolation switch (the Sargent EC160) is 2 metres, you appear to be way beyond that length.. (Glove box to rear doors)
Great videos Gordon did you ever take out the old split charge relay and use the EC160 instead. If so is it just a case of connecting the leisure battery and car battery into the relevant terminals and then your good to go.
Hi Gordon, did you stick with using your already instead split charge relay then? I'm going through a similar install now. How did you wire the 12v into the ec160 if you used your pre installed split charge relay please?
Did you connect a vehicle run signal to use the Sargent EC160 split charger ? or did you stick with your own ? also did you connect both the LB and VB to the sargent to make use of the charger? cheers
Hi, I sued a separate Durite split charger rather than wiring through the Sargent. I did connect both the LB & VB to the Sargent and used the mains charger a few times, all worked great! Hope that helps 👊🏼😎
Whats the idea behind two fuses for the fridge, one with the EC160 and the secondary on you fitted below the shelf? Great vids by the way, i'm going to be doing a T4 or T5 when I pick one up over the next couple of months.
+lambrettaladUK great question - the 15amp fuse in the fusebox in the unit below the shelf is for the power feed INTO the EC160 direct from the leisure battery for the fridge (it’s not secondary, its very important for protecting the EC160). Then there is the 15amp fuse built into the EC160 which goes OUT into the fridge. Hope that helps
Gordon, excellent video, excellent way to explain and funny to listen. Just a quick one, I understand that you can plug to the 240 socket that you have in the front of your van but also the unit can be plugged to an inverter to have 240, correct? Thanks
Note: The EC155 unit CANNOT charge AGM leisure batteries. The charge is too low and will damage the battery. I was told this by Sargent support. Anybody know if the 160 can?
Hi, what size wire did you use to hook up the two main batteries to the ec160 unit, and also did you find out if it was better to use the separate split charger rather than the one built into the unit? Cheers keep up the good work
Hi, I've purchased a van with a Sargent EC 160 already fitted that I can't get to work! So, stupid questions start here - there's clearly power in my battery as it's showing 14.something quite healthy on the display - but with no 'idiots guide' I can't work out whether I'm the issue or I need a new fuse or two??! The van was sold to me as newly converted so can't imagine it's an electrical issue, more user error! Any idiots guide suggestions welcome?? Btw, I've contacted Sargent who weren't much use and assume I have some electrical knowledge - I don't so I'll carry on speaking French and leave the electrics to the experts! Thanks :)
The big chunky power cable from the battery is 16mm 110amp. The red positive wire that goes to the EC160 for the power feed from the leisure and vehicle batteries is 1.5mm 21amp. Hope that helps bud
Watching back old episodes, just noticed all your running medals behind you. Fair play mate!
Thanks bud. Not been doing too much running lately, more coaching. I’ve done a few km’s over the years, that’s for sure, but not as many as the van!! Lol
Only found your videos today. Great stuff, by far the best explanation of cable routing and connection etc. 👍
Thanks for the feedbacj

What are the odds of that!!! You did a nice job on that X5, looked shiny - Felt for you starting it in the rain lol

I've ordered a Sargent ec160! Another great vid mate.
I've in no way been paid to say this but it's a good choice in my opinion!
Great video buddy.

Glad to hear it! 👊🏼🥳
Thanks Gordon! Great vids, they've been a great help with my conversion.

Thanks dude, gonna tidy up all that wiring - You've saved my life! x
Yeah no basic insulation should be seen outside of an enclosure! Is the joint box the correct rating?

On the 240 side are the wires push in for the scockit

Hi G Dub as you used the durite split charge did you still connect the main battery to the Sargent or just the leisure battery thanks great video
Hi bud, I connected both vehicle and Leisure battery to the Sargent
Hi sorry did you not use the durite split charger how did you wire both batteries i'm wiring a sargent in my van soon thanks

When’s the next build big man?!? We’re all waiting.
Who knows!!??!! 🤣
Great video, very helpful, im just about to start doing my own van, would you still recomend the EC-160?
Yes mate, great bit of kit!
What size red cable are you using for all the 12v stuff.... Great vids matey...

Very useful vid, thanks
+t5 travels Thanks :)
Hi, where did you buy the multipoint ground from ?
It came in a wiring kit with the split charge relay from SimplySplitCharger: ua-cam.com/video/WcGaHjmrjT0/v-deo.html
That's strange I bought mine from them and it wasn't in the kit
+craig joyce might depend on the kit you bought, they do loads of different ones
Do you have an inverter fitted too
Nope
G Dub TV have you thought of fitting one or need one for when you don’t have a hook up
I've never had any kit that would need one that I can't do without.
G Dub TV ah ok fairy muff 🤔
Subbed, great videos mate!
Thanks, appreciate it! 😎
You lost me at 4:44 😂 , naa not really 🤔
lol, I lost me at 4:44 :)
