I just disliked this movie in general but not nearly as much as the 4th despicable me
Why do all movie sequels insist on adding a baby to the mix? It doesn't add a new character, it adds a baby who can't interact with the other characters, on account of being unable to speak. See also "Disenchanted."
I don't consider it a bad thing technically, the problem lies more with the reasons why and what they do with it. A lot of these movies don't really do anything with it. Instead of being a character - yes, babies are still very much characters even if you don't like them - its treated like a problem, like a joke, or just sorta exists in space for no particular purpose...oh wait, that kinda covers all three. Point is, I don't blame them for continuing the family life and line, I do blame them for being bad writers/producers who make them and go "now what".
Vector: Wants to steal the moon El Macho: Wants to make an army of evil minions The 3rd guy: Wants to steal a diamond Cockroach man: Wants to steal child
Gru was completely stripped of his fatherly role, Agnes got bullied by a grown ass man yet Gru and Lucy did nothing?! Edith would've been best suited to wanting to go into villainy! This movie sucked!
Edith SHOULD’VE been Poppy. All I want is a movie where they do something with the girls besides just being Gru’s daughters. That’s all they seem to be after the first two films and it saddens me.
@@suspiciousstar7547 YES! If Edith was going to Gru's school that would've made for a more wholesome movie! I'm the same I miss their family dynamic, if they aren't going to age them at least allow them to decide their feelings. I love how every time Alex Meyers reviews a Despicable Me movie it's always: Alex when Agnes: *oh dear, oh dear, gorgeous* Alex when Minions: *_you freaking donkey_*
this film would have been something, of they had bothered to age up Agnes, Edith and Margo and the challenge of having them training in spy/criminal work
It’s amazing how at one point in the distant past I thought the Minions were cute and funny but now I can’t stand to look or listen to them for more than 5 seconds.
They went from cute to "entitled kids that can't handle not being the center of attention". Like, that tennis scene irked me. There was really no reason for the minion to be there, and I was kinda siding with the guy getting annoyed about it 💀
Personally, I slightly dislike this movie since there was SO much missed potential. You mentioned some of it in the video with Gru training Poppy and the girls feeling unloved but something else I noticed was that Maxine is barely a villain. He just never does that much evil stuff until the very end. What really bothered me was that this was the first real villain to have personal beef with Gru since they went to high school together and they just don’t really do anything with it (that’s not rushed is what I mean). I see the potential with this movie and they don’t do anything with it, that’s honestly why I dislike this movie.
TS4 (looks like im saying the sims 4 lol) had the greatest reason out of all these movies, it was giving an end to Woody and Bow's story, TS3 was great, don't get me wrong, but it was still incomplete for his character. Also, six movies have been planned for toy story since it came out so, try not to get tired of it
Toy story 4 was still good. Not as good as the first 3, but it definitely isn't bad. Kung fu panda was soulless and stupid. It's like the people that wrote it didn't watch the first 3 films. Despicable me 4 is just regular bad. It has no plot.
I remember my parents taking my younger sister and me to see this in theaters. She and I absolutely despised it, but our parents were having the time of their lives so much while watching it that we vowed to not say anything against it in front of them.
Your parents can't handle opinions? Wow I thought that was a simple task to do in humanity. But oh wait nevermind I guess I misunderstood! (I am being serious and sarcastic in some ways btw)
I really thought the hair dresser thing was going to go somewhere. Like after she healed she was going to have the most beautiful head of hair ever or something, and then it just... never came back up.
8:13 feels like a weird time to pull the “oh no our new house is lame” schtick In like, inside out it makes sense because its a cramped little apartment shoveled in an alley, but this house is still a two story manor bigger than my house growing up. And we were not like, financially struggling or anything, we were right in the middle class
My thought was exactly "that looks like what should be a tv show comprised into a poorly glued together movie." The minions scenes felt like those short episodes in the middle of commercial breaks
There were some scenes wherein the minions would be looking after his son instead of him, such as changing his nappy or putting him in the car seat. Though they might seem as insignificant things, I think it contributed to the dislike the baby had towards him. I thought we would see a scene or montage of him having to learn to take care of the baby himself so that they actually bond.
The story could’ve been about how Gru’s wife had to leave for something and he was left to watch the kids. The neighbor villian girl then kidnaps him to try and get him to teach her his villainous ways. He would have to take the baby with him because he can’t be left alone and the girls would stay at home and would be “helped” by the minions. The girls would then start to worry that Gru was abandoning them for his bio child, and that would cause a lot of drama between them. It can conclude with Gru figuring out how to balance being a father and a villain, involving his family in his antics more, or passing off the torch.
Funny enough, that is the sole reason why Pharrell Williams created the collab song for this movie during the end credits. Poor guy got swindled by Illumination.
so your idea for a sequel to the movie about a guy learning how to be a parent by himself... is to make him parent...by himself? i can't tell if you're stupid or just super fucking misandrist. oh wait, no that's right you threw a whole thing about work life balance as a villain... despite the fact that both movies 2 and 3 explicitly showing his character moving away from being a villian and towards being an anti-villain and how he could use his knowledge and gadgets to thwart crime not commit crimes. so you're idea for the capstone 4th movie in the series is to erase everything that happened in all three of the previous movies. i'm leaning towards stupid. very very stupid.
The thing for me is how no one is talking how horrifying it is that this baby was kidnapped and turned into a half cockroach hybrid? Am i the only one that thinks this is kinda crazy for a kids film?
Can we just think about how weird a 50 year old guy sneaking off with a teenage girl is? Edit: yes I know that it’s just a kids movie, the point is that it’s sounds strange out of context
@Imbatmn57 that would've made it so much better if it was biological evil? And like then the "gorls™" could get jealous or smt like Alex said and boom better story
I saw this in theaters, and i feel like the idea of Gru's baby being stolen hit a *little* to close to home to some of the adults in the theater, and one thing I noticed is that the jokes mostly fell flat.
Honestly, the movie would’ve been a lot better if they had just aged up the girls. Seeing Margot be like,17,Edith 15,and Agnes 12-13 would’ve been cool to see how to manage the girls and have a baby and dealing with 2 lives. Kinda like how Inside Out 2 is the view of growing up as a kid,and Despicable Me 4 could’ve been the parents view of there kid turning 18 and leaving, dealing with a 15 and 13 yr old,a baby, and having targets on their backs.
It seems that in Poland we luckily avoided this problem, because the titles were translated like this: DM1-How steal the moon. DM2-Minions causing trouble. DM3-Gru, Dru and Minions. DM4-Gru and the Minions: Undercover.

The thing that got me was the villain. Maxime had no real motive besides thinking that Gru stole his middle school talent show routine which (SPOILER ALERT! He did,) but it didn't justify anything and what he did throughout the movie was just unneeded and to me felt kind of stupid. I enjoyed the movie nonetheless, but I just didn't understand why the writers chose THAT reason, unless I just missed something.
@@crazyowlgirlcncowner The roaches literally served no purpose whatsoever. They basically acted like the minions, yet Maxime never used them for anything. What was the point of having them besides showing his obsession with those things?

Those three minions that stick with Gru and his family in witness protection or whatever makes sense, those three were with Gru when arresting Maxine at the reunion. Of course nobody but Gru knows which minion is which, but outside of that it makes sense
1. Gru tired of being on the good side for too long but still want to make his family safe and happy especially for his wife and his new son. 2. Gru checking in with his long lost brother, even though he's not a perfect villain, he's still jealous for his villainy freedom. 3. Poppy could've need some more proper screentime like she wants to be Gru's student who forced him to teach his villainy ways (even though Gru is trying so hard to leave his old past he can't help but want to teach her the good kind of 'villain' as long as she got eccepted to the school) 4. I really want the villain to work but their foundation was sooooo weak so maybe Maxmime could like took revenge for all the villain Gru's captured and told Gru is so weak now and can never run away from who he truly is, a Villain 5. Margo is a smart kid, she could've taken interest with science and help Dr. Nefario in his lab (The way she got bulllied and they didn't do justice for her is a crime so her maybe become an evil scientist can get her revenge). Edith kind of have a sense of fight but morally grey in her so she could've want to become a villain like Gru was so she joined Gru's secret heist with Poppy. I really want some Agnes character growth in here but I cant come up with anything awesome enough. The movie could've follow a more cliche and obvious route to make it good instead of all this snippets of wtf is happening
Every time your outro comes around and tells me to watch another video, I kinda feel bad for having already seen all the videos you've made that I like, since I can't "show youtube that your videos are worth caring about". Honestly love your content tho, keep it up!
I also would have liked to see a conversation with the girls about Gru Jr. and how that affects Gru’s love for them, but I like to think that they are confident enough about Gru loving them that they don’t even question it, and that they’re really happy to have a new brother. Goes to show how good of a dad Gru has been to them.
@@lexa2310 he interacts with the girls exactly the same. he just carries the baby around all the time. it would be weird if gru was going to the girls schools and just sitting there every moment of the day with them.... however that is literally a requirement to make sure your baby doesn't die.

The turning people into cockroaches thing would have scared the crap out of me as a kid. I probably would have cried when the baby got turned into a cockroach
the minute i saw Will Ferrells name in the credits i knew the movie would be absolute 💩 1. The plot makes no sense 2. most scenes have no relevance 3. the girls never age 4. Agnes is suddenly unable to lie 5. Dru is completely forgotten about 6. the baby was unnecessary 7. the villain is the worst with the worst motivation 8. the singing part was dumb 9. Elle Kings character is ANNOYING 10. Dr. Nefario is just... gone
They should’ve made the main villain Valerie Da Vinci. She has the motive against Gru and Lucy for getting their jobs back and her probably out of power. They better consider that in the future
Could’ve made a movie focusing on Lucy and how she became a super spy. In my opinion, that would’ve been better than a Despicable Me 4 or they should’ve just left it with Despicable Me 3.
I can confirm that, being forced to watch this movie for a 6 year old, it was absolutely horrid. As soon as the movie was done, I spent the next hour in a dark, silent room. The saturation of the video and the movie's plot (or lack thereof) was insanity.
bro I took my cousins to watch this and in the first 20 minutes I was considering leaving the movies and waiting for the kids outside... but I didn't. insufferable.
I swear the writers at Illumination when writing the next Despicable Me movie only ever consider the silly minion shenanigans and don't put a single thought into any of the plots for the actual main characters
This movie felt like 6 episodes of those TV shows based on movies stiched together to make a movie (with those avengers minions shorts made to air in between ad breaks being added in between segments)
Notice how in this scene this reminds you of despicable me 3 when gru and dru decides to do villain stuff together as brothers Gru wanted to know what it feels like to be a villain again I think.. yeah I remember that 11:04
The one good memory I have from this memory is that when me and my friends went to watch it, we spent the last hour of it playing in the play place meant for the kids and we had more fun there than we did the whole movie.
Yeah so... i really like your suggestion about the morefamily focused story line. It could have been Gru teaching her all his evil tricks. The old classics and on and on. While he is also dealing with his family. The kids feeling weird about the new baby. However i would have had the girl "change the stakes". So this girl wants to be a villian. So they do end up steal the badger. But she thinks that she can do something MUCH better aftwr she realizes that Gru has connections to the organization of good guys. Sooooo in my version the good guys arrest a lot of villans at the reuion and some get away. Later on after the badger thing, the young girl uses all the tricks Gru has tought her to break out the villains out of jail or holding or whatever. She thinks that THIS is sure to make everyone take her seriously as a villan and this will put her on the supervillain honor role or something. Maybe they call it the "dishonor role" because... villian stuff. Anyway. The villains end up betraying her. She becomes upset. Help saves the day. Turns "good guy" but still wants to keep training under Gru so she can continue to learn all of his bad guy tricks AS WELL as his good guy tricks so she can be the best of the best. During the whole "to defeat evil, one must understand it" type of thing. Also the family saves the day together. Gru and his wife reassures the kids that they ARE their kids and this baby doesnt change that, just to a bowtie on that story beat. THEN after all of that. You have the makings of a T.V show. An almost perfect set up. Gru teaching this young girl and taking her on as his apprentience and teaching her how to be a better good guy by teaching both the tricks of the trade from the side of Villains and the good guys. Anyway this would be the perfect set up for a t.v show. New family problems. Four kids. Normal life stuff getting mixed in. And now this whole student and teacher thing. Sounds like the makings of a decent family show. But... i dont get paid for that... so... i probably dont know anything... i dont even have my name on a building... so that means my ideas are probably bad... Im sure they know what they are doing. They have money after all. And money is always right

agreed, not going down this predictable route was a good decision. and for all the many flaws those movies have, Gru being a caring father has never changed.
I feel like, instead of the neighbor girl wanting to be a villain, it should have been Edith, maybe Margot, and he is so proud because deep down he can’t escape villainy. So he helps them steal the mascot to get in and the same thing would pan out. And it would give the girls something to do. I don’t know that’s just me.

Minions 2: this movie was a genuine roller coaster. Didn't know what to expect and it wasn't a good thing. I hated the villains. I hated the plotline but I did like the side story with The three minions training and stuff to fight otherwise.

This movie has the same problem Toy Story 4 and Kung Fu Panda 4 faced...
It doesn't provide a valid reason to justify its existence

8:13 feels like a weird time to pull the “oh no our new house is lame” schtick
In like, inside out it makes sense because its a cramped little apartment shoveled in an alley, but this house is still a two story manor bigger than my house growing up. And we were not like, financially struggling or anything, we were right in the middle class
going form gru's house to the new house can be a bit dissapointing with context
Oooh, that’s pretty smart
Nah
Funny enough, that is the sole reason why Pharrell Williams created the collab song for this movie during the end credits.
Poor guy got swindled by Illumination.
so your idea for a sequel to the movie about a guy learning how to be a parent by himself... is to make him parent...by himself?
i can't tell if you're stupid or just super fucking misandrist.

so you're idea for the capstone 4th movie in the series is to erase everything that happened in all three of the previous movies. i'm leaning towards stupid. very very stupid.

Sus
Barely disguised fetish
Those three minions that stick with Gru and his family in witness protection or whatever makes sense, those three were with Gru when arresting Maxine at the reunion. Of course nobody but Gru knows which minion is which, but outside of that it makes sense
1. Gru tired of being on the good side for too long but still want to make his family safe and happy especially for his wife and his new son.
2. Gru checking in with his long lost brother, even though he's not a perfect villain, he's still jealous for his villainy freedom.
3. Poppy could've need some more proper screentime like she wants to be Gru's student who forced him to teach his villainy ways (even though Gru is trying so hard to leave his old past he can't help but want to teach her the good kind of 'villain' as long as she got eccepted to the school)
4. I really want the villain to work but their foundation was sooooo weak so maybe Maxmime could like took revenge for all the villain Gru's captured and told Gru is so weak now and can never run away from who he truly is, a Villain

Yeah so... i really like your suggestion about the morefamily focused story line.
