Skyline, I can't tell you how helpful your videos are. You are a fantastic teacher and I hope this continues to be something you can do regularly. Cheers, man.
I mean...why shame people for learning? How the hell does that logic make sense? "Ugh, yeah, this is only helpful if you don't already know it" applies to literally every piece of knowledge learned ever.
@CSGO Tips: Dude, I think you're grossly overestimating what you learn from simply playing an FPS game. You don't learn just from playing, you must watch better players playing or watch videos like this. I've played FPS games since Doom II, and the first time I learned about these tips is when I watched Battlefield 3 tips. So all the years of FPS playing didn't magically teach me; it's when I stopped playing, and started learning from videos that I actually understood some of the bad habits I've had for years. Besides, in this video, Skyline isn't just talking about general cookie-cutter crosshair placement; he's covering at least one specific Overwatch map. That would be helpful to you even if you're proed CSGO for 10 years. So, please, drop the toxicity and negativity, and give credit where it's due.
As a shooter Vet, I never thought people struggled with crossahir placement. But for people who do not know, this was a very good guide. The thing I struggle with in this game is cross hairs themselves. I don't get to play every day, and when I come back after a break, it feels so odd and I am changing all the time.
The mind-wallhack is a great tip. People don't get how much it helps. It literally saves milliseconds which easily adds up to seconds - Meaning you have more time to observe, aim, think, ect. This is not only for Overwatch, but if you watch high-level CS:GO, they do it too there. After you have gotten good at preaiming, start prefireing. Gz, people will now start calling u a hacker, while you climb the ladder. Another great tip - Try lowering the mouse sens for heroes such as Mccree, soldier, Widowmaker, Hanzo, Mai. U know heroes that need good aiming. This way you don't move your crosshair away from the enemy so easily. This works on CS:GO too btw. Last tip- Always join the voice channel. I suggest that you go into the setting at set it to always joining the team chat instead of group chat. EVEN if u don't talk is it great is just one dude (more = better) gives info, 'Genji behind' Or 'Zenyatta low HP'. It all gives awareness for everyone on the team to get an idea of what is happening. One very last thing. If u don't even want to bother with all this, don't care or don't want to improve. Why play Competitive? Go play quick play, it's made for casual gaming anyway. I am so tired when I try to give tips in-game nicely, but then get an answer like 'Dude, this is just a game' or the classic 'Go fuck yourself' or the best one yet 'I fucked ur mom'. No fucking shit its just a game, but some people have fun winning and see themselves improve, see themselves climb the ladder, ect. I don't try to be a dick when I give tips in-game, but even when I try to be nice, people still gets mad. FeelsBadMan. So remember, a helping soul is sometimes friendly too. Not everyone online is a dick.
Just wanted to say thanks. I've struggled quite a bit to climb in Overwatch in the past, but thanks to your guides I've climbed from bronze to gold in just a week. It's really rewarding to see such improvement and I'm more motivated than ever to keep climbing. Please keep these awesome videos coming!
I really appreciate the way you elaborate on concepts I take for granted and don't think about, I take my map awareness for granted, my crosshair placement for granted, when really as DPS it might very well be holding me back the most. Every time I watch one of your videos on the basic concepts I just love it, you summarize them so well and it helps give me focused practice. Have you considered a video on how to maintain good focused practicing habits over a more long term playtime? For example, in one of your aiming videos you mention having to make sure to apply your practice methods in the real game, which I can do, but I often forget or feel confused about what I should do. I feel like I need a very structured set of practice guidelines, but I want to make sure I don't waste my effort by learning bad habits or just ineffectually practicing. If you can figure out a way to expand on the concept of focusing your training efforts, it would be fantastic for me. And one more thing, do you have summaries of the conclusions of each video somewhere? I'd love to be able to use a lot of tips as sort of an OW bible to remind myself what I can be working on, but it takes too long to rewatch the videos every time. Either way, keep up the great work you have really impressed me since I started watching you a few weeks ago.
I just recently got back into Overwatch, and am dedicated to get better. In search of some help with that, I came across your channel, and I'm not gonna lie, I totally subbed just for your voice. It makes your videos super enjoyable!
Underrated channel, I just got Overwatch yesterday. I'm a MOBA player, and considering this is my first FPS I was really bad at a lot of aspects of this type of game, but your videos helped so much already and this is only day 2.
I'm glad I came from playing Counter-strike and Quake for 15 years. Learning what the maps look like was probably the bane of my experience in the beginning. But I spend an hour going into maps solo and exploring. Making mental notes of health packs and good spots for snipers etcetera. Good video regardless. It's going to be helpful to a lot of players if they get to see it.
although I have been playing fps for quite some time, for some reason playing overwatch I think I fell into some bad habits, this video reminded me of one of those bad habits of just rounding a corner and then looking instead of predicting. Thank you for the great informational video, I really need to start working on this again.
This got me thinking more about hero roles, by the way. You were talking a lot about who is who in your other video. But here you were using the term "main dps", and now I am puzzled. Who in the team can be considered a "main dps"? The guy that does a lot of damage, i.e. the spammer, or the more kill-oriented dps, like McCree? It's obvious that Junkrat needs to fully concentrate on spamming the objective, but McCree is not so obstructed and can actually look around. Does it mean he's got to watch the flank? Would it hurt his team's damage output? Should he look there at all times or just from time to time, or is it situation dependent? I get a bit confused when I think of a right defense strategy.
Woaw, in a month after seeing your video, my precision on my main McCree increased from 42% to 55% on average per game, I make a lot more headshot. And my precision increase overall. I like all your videos, great job ;)
I feel like this video would be a bit better if you established to the viewer what crosshair placement is and what its advantages are. Since i have played at a high level in games like CSGO and Overwatch i know what these things are, but for new players that dont know what cross hair placement is, it is hard to know why you are doing these movements
Yeah this is an good guide, but ALWAYS expect the unexpected. Trust me it costed me a headset and a table to learn that. When you come out of a corner, i would clear the area by pre aiming every spot bit by bit so you dont get suprised but the enemy gets suprised. Always watch your flank, you cant always blame your team. And for my final tip, if youre watching a spot as example widowmake and know a enemy is going to peek, DO NOT LOOK AT THE CROSSHAIR! If theres a wall infront of the enemy, look into between the wall and the crosshair, belive me, it will get you a better reaction and with a good aim, maybe a nice flickshot.
Hey Sky, why do you lock your fps based on display (I see it's a 144hz monitor)? In my experience, 200 fps is more responsive than 70, even though my monitor can only display 60 frames a second. Btw, I love your channel and the lessons you teach.
Very good video, help me improve a points of view and etc. A question, that end 'game', the reaction click one, can you indicate with one is? Seems good to train response speed.
On dorado (when the map starts) your defenders will usually run literally next to spawn doors so you don't have to worry about flanks or anything until killfeed tells you to. Welcome to non-youtuber soloq.
Decaf Diamond well yes i am talking about that 95% of matches you play (unless you masters or something) that NEVER make it to youtube. instead we get "pro strats" and "pro tips" for ideal team scenarios that are inapplicable in most of your solo-q's.
even though i main tanks, these tips will make me a better DPS player. i can play DPS because of my shooter history (200+ hours COD4, 700+H Wolfenstein ET) and my game sense is solid because i play a lot of Winston but these placement tips are very well explained and very clear, i'll work on them for sure. SUBBED
Great video man! Really informative, I hope people in lower elo use these tips cuz it will really increase their skill level (Including myself) ... I wish I had more time for Overwatch but I'm so busy and I just play like the regular 3 games like every other day and I just don't even try to climb .. love this game!
This is called slicing the pie and it's actually a real world police and military tactic. The idea is that you want to have had line of sight with all possible sight lines with each moment of rounding a corner, so that at no point is the enemy focused on you while you're still scanning for them.
Only tip for you is for preaiming, you have the idea down, but you still seem to move your crosshair around the wall instead of just preaiming and moving with your WASD keys, preaim corners by using as little mouse movement as possible, if that means moving with your move keys to get there, then perfect, you want as little micro-adjustments as possible when you see the enemys.
the circle one is good for every class except widowmaker - u want default one or short here, mccree - u want short here, zarya - u want default here, hanzo - u want default here, may be u also want default at ana... all other classes are pretty good with circle since it helps u to see the spread of the weapon if they have it.
i play lots of fps games and this is certainly useful to me. Mechanical prowess is not as good as my situational awareness and team support abilities. If you're good at one, you're lacking in another. there is no middle ground.
I've just started watching this channel and wonder what the game in the "end-card" of the video is called. Seems like awesome pradctice for mouse accuracy for shooters and my starcraft
Gotek It's called Osu!, but it's actually not that great to practice with for several reasons. It's a good game, though. If you want to know more I think Skyline talks about it in his "Aiming myths" video, it might be a different video on aiming though.
Tracer especially needs proper crosshair placement when going around corners. She needs to take advantage of every opportunity she has to shoot and not waste time looking at other things when there's a nearby enemy on her screen.
Skyline if you do that you will have less impact at the team fight it might useful to do that but it will giveaway your value at the team fight and supports will die if a flanker comes so they should stay with the team and heal but it might be good thats just my opinion
Andlát Andometi You can, but it's a really bad idea. If someone's around the corner, they come over and kill you without you being able to defend yourself. Just listen for footsteps around the corner
Actually, I think standing further away from the corner while going around it is better, because you get a better view around the wall, whereas hugging the side of it obstructs your vision.
also with looking at where people usually are you want to remember that people move around. you might not see someone so you turn your head to look at the next spot and they happen to walk out from inside or some corner, see you, and kill you
Thats literally impossible. Silver players (for example) can team up with people upto 1000 sr below or above them. And you're over 1000 sr more than them.
very interesting video. havent really run into many isuues with this myself but i kinda just wanna study maps a little more now more work on placements
i feel that your thumbnail is a bit offsetting. might just be me tho, but even tho i do like your points, and i agree with most of them. i was hoping and expecting to see something about different aims. as is on your thumbnail, now i know that most of them are from specific heroes and abilities. but you still have the option to pick standard ones, i was hoping to hear thoughts on anything like that, purely based on the thumbnail.
Okay so I have been playing FPS games for a long time now (at least for me its a long time) and I always aimed by moving my wrist not my arm. I am currently trying to change that, and I found this guide to be really helpful. Yet, I'm still having problem with my accuracy on the moving robots. Is it because I've just started using my arm or am I just that bad?
SwehgPandazZz It's also healthier for you in the long run. Smooth motions using the entire arm produce far less strain than snappy movements with just the wrist
I love how all overwatch videos regarding aiming, map awareness and crosshairplacement are saying the exact same thing Counter-Strike players have been doing since it's release...
thank you I am getting better at Winston now
Man, this guide was so useful im so much better at aiming symmetra's left click in all of my games, i have a 100% weapon accuracy with symmetra.
Golden Gaming it doesnt tell you ur accuracy for symmetra

My team in QP does one better. They look and camp directly at enemy spawn. :D
I guess all the csgo players have learned this since gold nova :)

"Crosshair placement" I don't think it's hard to understand...
Now I've gotta ask my Google Home that once I get... well, home
actually thought crosshair placement was a gameplay option in game, like moving the crosshair not where ur aiming which i thought weird.
It was rather self-explanatory.
Playing CS when I'm not playing Overwatch has really helped improve my aim, I recommend it!
Thank you, i think I'm gonna really profit from crosshair placement while playing Reinhardt :)

so simple yet so useful
Very good video, help me improve a points of view and etc.
A question, that end 'game', the reaction click one, can you indicate with one is? Seems good to train response speed.
what game was that at the end of the video?
OMG YOU PLAY OSU!?!?!
ah thanks
can you give me a safe link to download this osu game?
On dorado (when the map starts) your defenders will usually run literally next to spawn doors so you don't have to worry about flanks or anything until killfeed tells you to. Welcome to non-youtuber soloq.

whats that game at the end of the video with music... looks like a good way to pass time
That flank spot on Dorado though. My pro Genji potential grows.

Thanks man, good content and good explanations. I became a subscriber :D.
Great job keep these videos coming :)
the first tip is obvious right? (trying to predict enemy movement or placement)
I never noticed that speaker sitting there on Dorado before.
the game at the end is Osu if you were wondering
Crosshair placement was nailed into my brain with my 500 hours in CSGO
just discovered you. love the guides! Keep em coming!
This is called slicing the pie and it's actually a real world police and military tactic. The idea is that you want to have had line of sight with all possible sight lines with each moment of rounding a corner, so that at no point is the enemy focused on you while you're still scanning for them.
What are the exact settings for the crosshair or reticle should I say that you were using for solider 76 in this video? Please help!!!
Im so glad I'm a csgo and tf2 player before being an overwatch player
That stuff gave me ALOT of edge in gameplay
What is that game at the end?
Osu
the game is called Osu
GBloxers Oyu
I remember learning this in CS:GO. Works wonders! I had forgotten to make it a habit in Overwatch as well.
Great video, i main supports but its great to have further knowledge on DPS characters to read moves and plays. Subbed ;)
I luaghed with the "hack wall" 😂😂
Hi, do you recommend the crosshair, the short crosshair, the dot, the circle or the default?
Skyline thanks for the reply, ill try it out
Skyline oh, and I forgot to ask, even for hanzo? Because he has a different like aim thing.
Daniel Whitaker Nah you can adjust it per hero. I use short crosshair except for hanzo, zarya, roadhog and reaper.
the circle one is good for every class except widowmaker - u want default one or short here, mccree - u want short here, zarya - u want default here, hanzo - u want default here, may be u also want default at ana... all other classes are pretty good with circle since it helps u to see the spread of the weapon if they have it.
So advice for people who haven't played FPS'?
i play lots of fps games and this is certainly useful to me. Mechanical prowess is not as good as my situational awareness and team support abilities. If you're good at one, you're lacking in another. there is no middle ground.
This was super helpful. Thank you!
Any advice on how to use these techniques when you're zipping around the map as tracer?
Tracer especially needs proper crosshair placement when going around corners. She needs to take advantage of every opportunity she has to shoot and not waste time looking at other things when there's a nearby enemy on her screen.
How can you turn on ping snd fps in top left corner ?
Ctrl+Shift+R
Thx Mate
how do you change your control target? like its circle, its + , or X...idk how? i clicked in the video just for that thing but its not in the video.
thanks !!
keep on doing these :) got a new sub.
What DPI and Sensitvity you use?
I tripped out at 1:42.
I blew my mind
Skyline if you do that you will have less impact at the team fight it might useful to do that but it will giveaway your value at the team fight and supports will die if a flanker comes so they should stay with the team and heal but it might be good thats just my opinion
being a medic main from tf2 helped a lot with backchecking on overwatch
i loved your video, thanks a lot for this, subscribed now
what's he playing at the end?
Putting Osu! gameplay in the middle of an Overwatch FPS tips video?
Have a sub!
What is that training he does at the end? i can definitely use that for another game i play :p
Mandeep Grewal a game called osu!
What is the song at the end of the video? Wanted to look up the beat map for osu.
It's this osu.ppy.sh/s/332532
Patys wow, Thank you
map awareness or awareness in general is something most teammates have no idea about.
how its called 12:17
Osu!
can't u emote around a corner to see whats behind it?
Andlát Andometi You can, but it's a really bad idea. If someone's around the corner, they come over and kill you without you being able to defend yourself. Just listen for footsteps around the corner
"It's called...your brain". MIND. BLOWN
Very good, informative videos.
what is that like aiming trainer he had playing at the end there?
Cierenius osu!
thank you
Actually, I think standing further away from the corner while going around it is better, because you get a better view around the wall, whereas hugging the side of it obstructs your vision.
also with looking at where people usually are you want to remember that people move around. you might not see someone so you turn your head to look at the next spot and they happen to walk out from inside or some corner, see you, and kill you
Are you using any 3rd party prog to display your fps and ping?
Mikko Anthony Ting ctrl + shift + r
Glad that i played CS .. so i am trained for this :p
nice video! subbed. I feel this tips apply better to hit-scan heroes tho.
I'm guilty of looking at the ground, because when I don't-- I walk right into a junkrat trap. EVERY TIME
Reported for brain hacks and common sense! =P

Really good advice. Thanks.
Can you explain to me what a dps is?
A hero from the Attack or Defense category.
Thank you, you have installed common sense into my brain.
QP: Match up and play against people *of you're skill level*... I'm high plat and I get matched with silver 1400s
Thats literally impossible. Silver players (for example) can team up with people upto 1000 sr below or above them. And you're over 1000 sr more than them.
I'm about 2700, so any silver at 1800-1900 could match up with me
NORWEGIAN NUKE I'm at 3700 sr and i still get matched with golds, it rarely happens but it happens
KSTR that just means you got carried to plat lmao
I never get matched with my skill. Mid dia and I'm constantly put against GM's and top 500s. Tired of getting stomped every other match.
very interesting video. havent really run into many isuues with this myself but i kinda just wanna study maps a little more now more work on placements
i feel that your thumbnail is a bit offsetting. might just be me tho, but even tho i do like your points, and i agree with most of them. i was hoping and expecting to see something about different aims. as is on your thumbnail, now i know that most of them are from specific heroes and abilities. but you still have the option to pick standard ones, i was hoping to hear thoughts on anything like that, purely based on the thumbnail.
Great vid, love the clap. XD
omg thanks i have finnaly found the right crosshair for winston
Danks bro I'm just starting overwatch
Crosshair placement comes automatically to good players. It should be common sense to be ready to see enemies when you come around a corner.
Okay so I have been playing FPS games for a long time now (at least for me its a long time) and I always aimed by moving my wrist not my arm. I am currently trying to change that, and I found this guide to be really helpful. Yet, I'm still having problem with my accuracy on the moving robots. Is it because I've just started using my arm or am I just that bad?
ty
SwehgPandazZz It's also healthier for you in the long run. Smooth motions using the entire arm produce far less strain than snappy movements with just the wrist
I love how all overwatch videos regarding aiming, map awareness and crosshairplacement are saying the exact same thing Counter-Strike players have been doing since it's release...
