Contact cleaner. Spray the socket spray cable tip. Insert cable repeatedly clean any residue off with paper towel. Goes without saying unplug power first.
I'm guessing but it sounds like the jack socket might need resoldering perhaps. Probably best to see if an amp tech could have a quick look inside. If it's the wire come loose or a bad solder joint it should be an easy fix...Good luck!
Spray some Contact Cleaner into the connection when the amp is unplugged, also spray some Contact Cleaner onto the tip of the lead working it in and out a few times. Wipe it off with some paper towel and you should be good to go
If you can remove the back panel, have a look at the Return socket's Tip Arm (the bent metal arm inside the jack). It looked to me as though the Tip Arm is bent away from the cable's Tip. Bending it back may solve your issue.
Just a thought, Could it be that you are using a Trs cable rather than a ts. They have a ring and sleeve for 2 signal or stereo, I have them for two channel amp footswitches. Ps. Love the channel, from a fellow enthusiastic novice…
Sounds like the jack socket it open circuit. The fact that it works upon removing the plug suggests that it’s probably not clicking into the jack plug. Dry joint probably.
Like any electrical item that's plugged into the wall - don't stick your hands inside it while it's still plugged in - could be your last move mate. Hope you get it sorted out - it's not an expensive repair by the looks of it so good luck 😁
Indeed, sadly though Thomann is in Germany and their Harley Benton products are great and good value. 15 watt tube amp with Celestion speaker and real spring reverb in a nice package for £200. Had very few issues in the past with a lots purchases, but unlucky this time. I’ve had a few messages for folks now so I’ll get it fixed.
£200 would only buy you the JJ valves and the speaker - you got the whole amp for that. Well worth finding a repairer and getting it sorted. Probably an easy fix. For the folk that say "why didn't you get a Fender?" ........£200 valve amp is worth the risk, and Fender would be four times the price, made in China and still possibly fail.
Oh dear , that’s a nuisance mate , can your guitar tech not fix it ( I assume you’ve already asked him) That’s the trouble with ordering from abroad, it’s a pain to send back for warranty claims,
Once you start mucking about with it your warranty will be void. I would send it back or if you won't to pay for the repair yourself take it to a music store that do repairs with warranty
Noticed my comment deleted because I put a link to a diagram. . Test both sockets with the same jack plug. If the ‘click’ resistance putting the jack in/out feels less on the right socket it is probably the tip connector that should have a slight spring loading towards the jack plug tip. . Wrap a small piece of foil around the sleeve of the jack plug. If the connection is better then it is an over-sized sleeve connector on the socket.
With it acting like that when you wiggle it, thats gotta be the socket itself. Could be as previously mentioned a bad solder joint or its come loose entirely. Or (and Ive had this on my orange of all things) it could be the prongs on the socket need bending back in a bit... if you can, get the amp out of the cab and have a look at the 3 metal tabs on that socket (providing theres no obvious wires loose) and near the edge it pivots on press in a bit with screwdriver, this should allow a better connection inside the socket itself. If I were nearer to you I'd have a crack at it. Derby's prob a bit of a way out but if I can help I will. Good luck with it sir hope you sort it as pain free as poss :)
Good luck with getting it back to Germany....if you can find a carrier that will take it. Like yourself I bought a faulty effects switcher from Germany and ended up fixing it myself...Brexit means Brexit!
@thenovicenoisemaker the turn around time frame is the problem. I would just take it to a local tech and send Thomann the receipt for the repairs to refund you. That would be cheaper for them anyway than to pay return shipping to you. They have great budget gear but their QC sucks. I had a problem with a guitar I purchased and there's no way to even consider sending it back from the US . They sent me some email instructions on what the fix might be. Totally ridiculous. This was 2 yrs ago though so maybe they've improved?
@allboutthemojo I’ve had a lot of their guitars (41) but fortunately not too many issues. One was a dog which I returned at their cost but took weeks to get my money back. Another had a switch issue which I got repaired and they reimbursed me. Not ideal but I guess that’s the risk and trade off. Thanks for tuning in 👍🏻
The fault on this aside, I think it’s a great amp. 12” Celestion speaker, real spring reverb and to my ears a rich sound and certainly plenty loud. All for £200 too

Thank you the kind words and support Tim. Miraculously contact spray has done the trick 🫨
@@thenovicenoisemaker just seen the new video, great news.

Think you’re right there Peter. Will get it fixed soon

lol 😂 noted thank you ⚡️
This illustrates why buying products from local shops is so much better than buying them online!

Take it to a local HB dealer - shop that has an amp tech. They just need to replace the return jack. You might contact Andertons Music. Cheers!
Thank you. I’ve got a couple of outlets now thanks to this post 👍🏻

Thank you, appreciate this 👍🏻
Remember that if someone else fixes it now, unless it's invisible to the eye, you may well void your warranty for any future problems?
I think I’ve resigned myself to the fact I won’t be using the returns process so it’s now up to me for any fixes. Thanks though Graham 👍🏻
Don't ever stick your hand inside a tube amp that's on or shortly been turned off, there is a lot of juice stored in there.
Noted!! Thank you ☺️

Tom’s not an amp guy. Yep, pain on the rear for a send back 🤦🏻♂️

It definitely slides in easier, thanks for this
there is a guy in leicester Thurmanston named John i really recommend him
Thank you
Hope you get it sorted Rich
Thanks Mala
I bought a gs mini acoustic from thomann and its neck is that far out it's unplayable.its now wall art.
That’s a shame. I’ve had a couple of turkeys from them over the years

Stuart from Stuart ukguitarampguy he's a amp tech & a youtuber on here ,Berkshire amp repair
Great thank you ☺️
Get out your Phillips-head screwdriver, and take it apart. If you have a soldering iron, you can probably fix it yourself.
I’m hopeless at this kinda stuff 🙈
Try a general electronics repair shop, the socket will not be Amp specific
Thanks Ian
I wouldn't buy a Harley Benton pick, much less a tube amp.
Everyone to their own

Thomann have free returns so that’s not the issue, it’s the time frame

Maybe Google 'guitar amp repairs near me' or similar?

why not buy a decent Fender valve amp- I personally cannot fault them ?
