    The house was probably only being used for vacations and such before, so they didn't really need a big tank. But now the new family wants to live there full time- they need a full time septic system lol

    Just moved from central texas to NC and had a septic tank for 20 + years . Did the required monthly maintenance with a pod and emptying every 4 years and never had a problem. Your videos are educational and ty for the work you do. I could never do it!

    If it's yellow,
    Let it mellow.
    If it's brown,
    Flush it down.
    Best way to conserve water!

    It's interesting seeing how other places do stuff different, up here in Maine I've never seen an above ground clean out.

      Pennsylvania is the same. Unless you request they put one in, it never happens. The people that do request one are usually the RV type so they can dump their tanks at home lol

      Here in Oregon, most places that were built after around 1995 or so are pretty much guaranteed to have an above ground clean out between the house and tank.
      Before that time frame, it's pretty much hit or miss.

    Up here in Long Island NY, we almost exclusively use cesspools, where the effluent is allowed to escape through holes on the side of the tank. It’s a much less maintenance heavy system, although it most definitely does still need to pumped periodically.

    • @GGigabiteM
      @GGigabiteM 2 роки тому +5

      And that's why cities back before plumbing always had outbreaks of cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery, botulism and a host of other nasty diseases. Cesspools would contaminate ground water and wells would be dug into the contaminated water and used.

    I’ve seen leaks from the house cause the same issues. Had a guy call and said people were wanting to charge him around 7k for new lateral lines and he ended up having a toilet leaking. Fixed the leak and three weeks later he called back and said his problem was solved. $20 part also cost big time

    I'm thinking you should invest in a DeWalt battery powered weed eater would make digging easier.
    Sometimes when you see tall green grass around the septic tank it can also mean the lid has failed and needs to be replaced aka plastic tanks

    So is there a price difference to have you pump a small tank vs a larger tank??

    • @MrJazzSaxophonist
      @MrJazzSaxophonist 2 роки тому

      Here in Eastern NC, it’s roughly $0.25/gallon, so a typical 1000 gallon tank would run $250 to be pumped down. Most places will charge by the gallon, so yes, a small tank would be less, but would most likely have to be pumped more often, so you don’t save anything usually
