Obviously not cleaned in 20 or 30 years. Black soil around the lid means trouble. The proto-tek won't work if the lines are jammed. Never tried the crust buster but looks like it works well. Gotta tell owners to pump every 2 years and don't flush wipes, rubbers (unlikely at their age), cigarette butts, dental floss or tampons (also unlikely). Just crap and single ply paper work the best. Retired with 25 years pumping tanks in Connecticut. I've seen it all. Nice job guys!
That transmitter is cool af. I remember when i was kid me and my stepdad out with metal rods trying to find the septic tank at our new house. That gizmo would have been nice and saved a ton of time.
Good job and a nasty one. Can't believe people flush wipes and floss. Took my washing machine, shower and laundry sink off the septic and run the grey water elsewhere after a 5 year old system was failing. Installer never put a filter on the outlet side of the tank so I added that too. Nothing like hanging upside down with your drill strapped to your wrist in a septic tank.
That's not good You want all that extra water carries enzymes in it for example laundry soap has enzymes and organic material in it that help break down the solids You're not doing your septic system a favor that's for sure That's a big no-no also want warm water during the winter time to encourage breakdown....
my septic system is from the 70s. I have much larger lid. ive pumped it twice in 23 years. seems to be fine. i dont put grease, dental floss or food down my drains. i do need to see how far out my leach lines are as I need to run a water line to lower property.
Remember when the town I grew up in decided to put sewers in. Dad and I did a bunch of the hookups for the people we knew or older folks that could not afford a contractor to come in and do it. The guy from the city would sign them off without us even putting a length of pipe in the ditch. On mine I did not even know where the tank was to back fill it with sand like it said had to be done
I see the transmitter has a lug to attach a line. That would work for what we need to do which is trace a line to the tank. Feed it down maybe 5 feet at a time and locate where the pipe is. And even if you lose it $34 is a lot less than tearing up the entire yard.
Hello folks call me Bear, I just came across your video on UA-cam,. I ran a pump truck when I was a young man, it was a shifty job, however I made good money,.I ran an old double pumper, did I mention I was in Hereford Texas at the time. I seen some strange shit then, a lot of the things I came across were pits dug in the ground and leaching. This was back in the early 70's when I was very young.
I bought my house 8 years ago. The septic system reportedly originally served the houses on either side of me. I live alone so I don't strain the system much, but wonder where exactly my tank is at. I have a general idea because of a vent in the line from the neighbors house on one side. My ground is rock hard so metal rods would not work. Love the idea of a flushable transmitter!
I have a house built in the 50's and I wish they had used a concrete tank, for some reason around here they all seemed to use steel tanks instead. Discovered during the first pumping that the previous home owner had made his own lid out of pressure treated boards and the edge of the tank was partially caved in, leaving the boards sitting at a 15 degree angle. I'm currently scheduled to have the same company that pumped it out replace the tank. Oddly enough, everything still seems to flow well so I'm just hoping now that the leach/drain field is still functional and the previous home owner didn't do something stupid like pipe it into the storm drain instead.
I had an old home made septic tank and drain field on my property. The drain pipe was terra-cotta. The tank was block with a plywood floor. Obvious it never was inspected. I eventually put in a new system up to code.
Those old, homemade septic tanks are very interesting and believe it or not are usually grandfathered in as long as they are still working properly. Terra cotta piping were used on factory made septics back then, too. Do you know what year your septic was built?
@@ChristinaHutton-c5t I moved on the property back in 1978. It was old then. I think made in the sixties. It was working properly but had to upgrade when I upgraded my home. I had to put in an elevated leach field with a lift station. The new tank is concrete. Very expensive back 23 years ago when it was installed. Orange Country Fla has very strict building codes.
dude u lucked out with finding the lid so quicky...... what a PITA!!! that lil locator worked out great wish I would have known about those would have saved soooooooooo many hours of digging 🤬
We've lived in our house for fourteen years. We never knew where the old septic tank was (we are on city sewer now). We could have used that!! But this year we had a drought, and the septic tank and field lines all became clearly visible as dead spots in the grass.
Neat tool. We have a Jet Aerobic system (4 stage) so.... there's access/service at the surface for our technician. My worst issues have been roots blocking water flow between stages... and I can pull/cut them out if I need to.
I use the same transmitter and locator. Only problem I have encountered to date using the transmitter was when it got caught on an obstruction in pipe and broke fishing line trying to pull it back. I was able to recover the transmitter, but used up alot of its battery in the process. Only complaint is the battery life of transmitter and that batteries cannot be replaced.
My brother inherited our grand parents old house. It was built in 1976, septic never pumped. He installed a new leach field. Then went to connect to the septic tank after it was pumped. The whole corner of the concrete tank broke off. So new tank it was too.
Ever run into one that has no opening in the concrete lid to drain it? My parents doesn't and it has never been cleaned out either. They have lived there over 45 years now. It is HUGE and DEEP.
I never understood why a septic tank would be completely buried. Maybe it saves a few bucks to not install risers and hatches up to ground level. I have to pump my tank about every 3 years to keep it happy. I'd hate to have to dig every time it's pumped.
Got to make lots of people happy. You have an honorable job. So many would look down at you until their toilet backs up into their house stinking up the place, LOL
What I don't understand is how could you locator the transmitter to be exactly under the lid? How can you control where it ends up after you flush it? It could have been anywhere in the system, so why is it settling at the lid?
On most systems here the baffle is directly under the lid, so theoretically when I flush the transmitter it should land in the baffle right under the lid most times
I'm a plumber over in California and I gotta say I get a lot of enjoyment out of your videos I've even thought of maybe getting into it one day to be able to move out somewhere that way
never seen a small lid. is that what they did in the 50's? mine was put in in the 70's and has two square lids like 18 x 18 at least maybe 24x24. curious
so im assuming if you dont get lucky and find the transmitter floating on the top when you open the lid you basically just eat the cost of that little beacon i dont see how you could find it later once you suck it up into the truck shes gone
My neighbor sold his home last year. He had been in the home since 1979 (42 years) and never had the septic tank pumped out. He was very lucky as it still works.
