Nice to see young people having interest to join la Légion Étrangere.
Served for 7 years (sorry if my english is not very good) in the 3ème REI, quite a long time ago, I am 46 y/o now.
If you acheive your Képi Blanc and serve la Légion, you will never forget it.

How many years can you serve at the FFL? I'm planning to go to France once I finished college (just in case I fail the admission) , and if I can actually join it, if I can serve for 10+ years would be very rewarding

I guess it's a bit late, but still - Each contract you sign in legion demands that you serve atleast 5 years. so yeah if you get accepted you could sign another contract when the first one finishes and therefore will be able to serve for 10 years

At least this guy is honest and is telling HIS experience and not just what he thinks. That is more than 99% of the viewers can say. Thanks Viking for posting vids about the experience as I am sure many of us are wondering and thinking about joining ourselves.

Why so much hate? He's been there for 5 months and he is talking about his expereince in those 5 months. He is not talking like if he was a veteran, just giving advice for the ones who want to join and want to know what to expect in the beggining

Michel, I've compared these knobbers to people who have studied karate for 5 months and earned their yellow belt. If the viking then opened a dojo with himself as instructor who would join?
It's the same as the Viking giving advice about something he knows fuck all about. 5 months of joining, going through interviews and then BASIC training does not make you a legionnaire and it certainly does not give you the right to give advice.

The Kepi March is done at the end of his time at the Farm. So in 3 weeks time he will have his Kepi Blanc and be back at Castel.
Then he will have a VERY boring 3 months before he gets to regiment. It'll be at this point where he will be able to buy a phone and get into contact with you.

I think his answers are completely honest and I believe him that he finished basics. So I have to thank him for this video. I am thinking hard about joining, and I always have this image of a super elite force that you can only join when you are 3 meters tall and have arms like Arnold. It is nice to hear that probably normal people join and have the chance of passing (with a fucking hard preperation)... This guy is not mad about the legion he made his experience and shares it. I went to Marseille Aubagne last Week, when i was there, i had not the
    Courage to go in.
The long lonely journey gives me to much Time, to think about it.
Also the "Problem" that i had to much People at Home, who don´t
    supported my choice.
It´s a big different to think "I go for 5 Years and join" than really doing it
and be completely alone and away from everything.
The thing isn´t over for me..., for sure. But if You go, be more than sure
and from the first Step You do in the direction of the Legion, let everything
behind. All thoughts that can hold You back.

I have had my gallbladder removed. It is an organ that you can live without, just like with the Blind Intestine. So no special diet or medication is needed. But I have received five small scars from the operating wounds .. I am convinced that they will see them and ask the cause. I'm afraid of being denied. I could try to get the journals from the operation and bring it with me. But I still want to hear your opinion on what you think? thanks for the help!

Just for anyone, who think it’s easy to get in and Legion needs people badly - it’s not true, they cut down numbers and have more than enough applicants. I went to enlist in autumn of 2000. I did prepare for six month(running, swimming, working out). Some of the things this guy was saying are matching my experience, but some don’t. Anyway it’s been 20 years. Definitely prepare before you go, and have good running shoes, legion would provide if you don’t, but quality will be poor, have rubber slippers for shower, you won’t be given any and you’ll have to stay in line waiting for your turn to take shower and it will be cold. Bon chance ✌🏻

(in1996) They gave us everything we needed, towel, soap, tooth brush/paste, socks, running shoes everything and we wore the blue track suit with the French army logo that everybody got, we paid nothing for it because if you didn't make it, you handed it back.
You went, you tried, it was not for you, good for you as most are too afraid to even turn up.
Better for you and the Legion that it never worked out, that's the way it is,
I did ten years as a British soldier beforehand and hear a lot of guys say " I could have joined the Army" But they didn't and I did, that's the difference, you gave it a shot.

I put my time in the Legion behind me mostly, but you will never have people around you that are behind you, look out for you and are your brothers forever, but that is the same in all infantry units, what unites the Legion most is that we are mostly from different countries and are united for the Legion. I only make a comment because the Legion is now saying about the 'PlayStation' generation who aren't as fit as from 20 plus years ago etc... but times have changed so maybe I should too!

Unfortunately Miguel, nowadays you can ask to go at the end of basic training. This is not a good thing because it draws wasters like the Viking to the legion. In his case he was kicked out of the Canadian army. He was not up to the rigors required to be a legionnaire. So he went crying to his chef de section and begged to leave. He then decided to try and justify not making the grade by doing crappy UA-cam videos.

Before I watch your video I want to express somethings maybe I am not going to make sense but the point I wish to make is I have had the dream of the legion since around 14 or 15 I am an American the man who partly raised me my Dad was a Marine Reserve I knew somehow of the Legion from where I cant recall I actually lived in New York at 15 july-august in section 8 hotels awaiting permanent housing my Mom was a drug addict at the time she gave up when she learned the wait is years and we left back home to Colorado a month before 9/11 and as I was the last to leave home of my siblings I was somewhat lost my grades low all I had was a passion for basketball skateboarding and weightlifting I was always akward wt the girls but did ok so my Dad ( not blood) pops back into the picture takes me to El Paso Texas eventually realizing he is lost in a rundown city and up and leaves to Philladelphia leaving me a apartment and a food stamp card I never took up weed till this year but boy did I so soon after I met a person connected and he introduces me into selling weed giving me my first pound I set out and did well this began my criminality mind you I even worled went to school and sold together I did well for a kid on his own I had nobody though I was young and felt lost I eventually left ended up in CO went on a string of robberies and landed myself in the system I repeated the same things and in prison I dreamed I could do this one day become a Legionaire redeem myself... now I am 31 in a mansion under a bunch of pillows alone in my bed by a window overlooking a street my house sits atop a hill in a very nice part of town I am still in crime have a job took in my older brother etc. I just want to be a good man I am not trying to be badass just do my best I want to get away.

After that I presume you went through 4 weeks of training and then completed the "Marche Képi Blanc".May I ask how you served only 5 months and then released from your 5-year contract?

The third one was kicked out for fighting with one of the slavs (and the cold war lives on! :p). I did meet a few more later though. During Training however i was the only candidate who was from North America, and one of 3 native English speakers. Others spoke english, but as a second language.

1A. Glasses will be seen as a liability, it will not however completely bar you entry, especially if you are a fit candidate in all other areas.
2A. Yes, 7 will be enough to pass the Luc Legere. You will run many, many kilometers, i was extremely unprepared for the amount of running, and not just that, the terrain in which you will run on. I survived, not without much teeth-grinding and a constant flow of obscenities from my mouth though. It will just be a little harder if you cant keep up.

They overlook petty crimes but not major ones. With so many applicants they can afford to be super choosy on who they take.
And NEVER LIE to them as they have an amazing intelligence network. They will expose your lies and they will definitely not take you on.

Zakalon is 100% correct. Petty offenses are forgiven (unless they are drug related, sorry no druggies in the Legion) but not only are serious offenses not forgiven they WILL make it a point to call Interpol if you have any outstanding arrest warrants (and they do check).
So if you are fleeing justice, do not think the legion will offer you refuge.

Actually that is not true anymore, the Legion is highly selective. Only 1 out 7 applicants gets his kepi...I seriously doubt the British Army is that selective.

Question for any legionaires current or former. I had a surgery like seven years backs and of course have two scars from it. I'm in damned good shape, but am worried it'll be an obstacle,. Will it be a problem if I don't bring documentation?

I failed to mention, that this was a chest surgery to fix some broken ribs. I'm all good, but am still worried. I'm thinking and hoping a doctor's examination and note will be enough to pass.

If you got scars on the calves due to surguery, is that a problem? Its a surgery i did since birth. I can walk, i go to the gym, i do squat, i mean, i dont have any problem with it though.

I have a normal life in Sweden. Family, job, apartment etc. If I join FFL and pass the selection, will I then have time to deal with those things? If I fail selection, then I dont want to have quitted my job, got rid of my home etc. How does it work? If I go to france, I will need my phone, creditcard etc in order to get there. Will I get it back after the selection if I succed? If I fail? Is it even legal to take my personal belongings? Thank you for answers!

Would I lose my VA compensation and/or other benefits in USA if I join the legion? Do I have to update my new name and everything or would I have two nationalities with a different identity?

First of all thanks for the video. Now, i do have some questions related to this first week there 1. Can you bring one or two books with you? Can you have a little note book with you? DO they shave your beard and hair right away? Do you get to pick you new name? Is it everything in French from the very beginning to the end? What happen to your phone and wallet (money as well) after you cross the door? Cheers!

Maybe I missed it; why did he leave the FFL? Left with his cover? He "could" have said everything in eight to ten minutes. Something doesn't make sense here. NO explanation of short stay?
