    I’m a young electrician, for the first time I went into a job today alone doing exactly this, and I was just nervous. Maoist likely because it was I wasn’t being watched over but when I finished I watched this video to make sure everything g was right you explained it so well that I smiled when turning the power on. God bless and thank you.

    This video is great. A few tips I learned the hard way.
    That lid will remove with a large flat screwdriver. Just pry out the outside tab a tiny bit bu turning the driver.
    #6/3 wire although it fits in 1/2" conduit, you'll never get it through. Get 3/4“.

    Hi Spa man.. Great Video. I have a watkins Hotspot thats been working great for years 4-5 ... the main 2 spead motor Wet pump went out and put water on motor of the 2 speed pump. I assumed that was what caused the breaker to trip... after research and finally buying a complete watkins 2 speed motor pump for $500 , i replaced it and filled tub... no leaks and everthing seemed great... I was able to get my 3 jet speeds or 3 levels of jets and was ready to leave it alone for the night to heat up from 50 deg to the 102 deg. but checked on it and 50 amp breaker was tripped... I could reset breaker and check everything again, but i just reset breaker and let it sit. at that point , i think only one pump comes on to curculate and the heater to heat... at that point, it tripped again . is my heater bad causing it to trip? Thanks Spa Man... your the best !

    Nice video. My second jets were going off and on. Still on warranty so I called the technician.. He tested and said that was mostly likely just a bad switch on the other side for first jets but I can still use the tub until the part come in. So I started to warm up the tub, but I check on it later - no power to my control panel and the circuit breaker was tripped. So I reset the breaker and my wifey was like the control panel light flickered but off again. The breaker, however is not tripped. Several attempted to reset the breaker and only a flicker on the control panel. Now I can’t cold water and no lights on my “Hot Tub”.

    Here's a fun one. . . Sparky wired a 50-amp GCFI breaker on the main panel and ran the 4 #6 wires to the tub pack. Since this is a 3-wire board the common was taped off and not used. Spa runs fine for about 3 hours then trips GCFI breaker. Load for the two 240 #1 and #2 pumps and heater pull 33 amps, so well within the 50-amp breaker capacity. Sounds like a defective Breaker to me, but Sparky wants to blame the tub. Any thoughts?

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  4 роки тому +2

      Well you have a lot of things going on...33 amps is well with in the limits.. Yes it could be a defective breaker. ! It could also be a pump that is on it last leg and when the spa is turned on and is up and running for several hours one of the motors gets really hot and trips the breaker .... I'll give you another example... Couple of weeks ago I was working on a jacuzzi that kept tripping the breaker after about 6 hours... I played with every thing and figured out it was the heater! When the spa breaker was turn back on after tripping water temp was in the 50 to 60 degrees when the spas water reached approx 80 degrees it tripped and I tested it for several day and it always tripped around 79 to 81 degrees...I replaced the heater and it has not tripped since.. I since then have taken the heater apart and found a pin hole in the heating element that was corroded and causing the problem..Now Im not say that this is what is causing your problem ...You need to open up the spa and look at every component in the spa and look at the motors to see if they leak or have calcium build up between the wet side and the motor, check the heating element check the sensors make sure all the electrical connections are tight..And at the very end it could very well just be a weak breaker..You will never know until you look at it closer... Hope this Helps and Thanks for Watching , Sharing & SUBSCRIBING

      If you look the side of the pack there should be a ground bar...If not it is on the inside of the pack.. Just depends on what pack and Hot Tub you have.... Hope this Helped and Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    Got everything working the way you showed. Hot tub ran and than stopped after a few hours. Not tripping breaker but starts than stops if I manually trip it off/on. Flashing temperature after pur cycle. It's a ZSpa 720 and I can't find error codes anywhere on the net.

    Quick question. I am moving my hot tub off a brick patio and onto a rebar reinforced slab. Before I pour the slab, I am adding a threaded rod pounded into the ground and connected to the rebar. I'm going to have the threaded rod stick up out of the cement as a way to ground the rebar. Should I run an additional ground wire from the bar by the pack to the threaded rod as a 2nd ground? Would that help if somehow the water in the tub got electrified?

      I would run your wire from the main to the sub and then to the spa in #6 THHN or THWN wire no matter what and if you want to add the ground bar for added measures that fine. You alway want to make sure the main sub and spa are all grounded together on the same line with the same size/type of wire. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    Excellent Video, I have installed several of these over the years and I always come back to this video to refresh my memory before installing. I was wondering what the purpose would be to removing the filters prior to turning the spa on? Eliminate air gap or air lock?

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  4 роки тому +1

      When you turn the system on you want as much flow as possible so you don't get an air lock... so you should always remove all filters and throw them in the water so they are wet and ready to go once the Spa is up and running for several minutes...sometime a dry filter will cause an air lock. Hope that helps and thanks for Watching & Subscribing.

    At the main panel, where does the white common or neutral wire get connected and where would the ground wire get connected at the panel? Thanks for all your videos.

      In the main panel Ground and Neutral share the same lug (Ground lug) in the sub panel they must be separated like shown in the video. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    Awesome Video
    I have a hot tub sub panel with a 20 amp and 30 amp breaker. I need to change to 50 amp for my new hot tub.
    Questions:
    Can I remove the two breakers and install a 50amp?
    Do I need a whole new panel?
    I am assuming I will need a larger wire from 50amp breaker to hot tub?
    If a larger wire is required do I need a larger gauge for all 4 or just black and red?
    In addition in the panel, there is another 20amp breaker which powers outside lights. How can there be only a power 50 amp breaker at the main breaker box to the hot tub panel and there be 70 amps worth of breakers in the panel (20+30+20)?
    Sorry for all the questions!
    Thank you!

    You did not discuss where the ground from the pack to the breaker goes. Where does it go? The ground bar?

      Jerry if you watch the video again at 2:30 of the video you will see where the ground wire goes in the Sub Panel and at 4:10 of the video you will see where the ground goes for a BalBoa Pack. Hope this helps.. Thanks again For Watching & Subscribing

      Yes...Min of 5 feet away from the hot tub and 36 inch hight and no further then 20 feet and in the line of sight..#6 wire on all wires and use THHN / THWN only Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

    This video was extremely helpful and very easy to understand! Great job. One question. What size wire should I run from the 60amp spa disconnect box to the hot tub pack?

    • @spaman5440
      @spaman5440  4 роки тому

      You should check with the manufacture of the Spa to be on the safe side and check with the local and state codes .. most Spas use # 6 wire for both Hot wires and the Neutral/common wire and the Ground Wire

    Do you have any videos showing wiring a Caldera or Hotspring with 20A and 30A 2 pole breakers? I think it is pretty much the same but wanted to make sure.
