so, i run level 1 for about 4-6 hours, and i usually keep dying to the same spot in lvl 2: the Plants, which start out as 1 Plant and keep splitting into more smaller plants; not sure what i keep missing out on, since adjusting artifiacts, buying up all reasonable recepies i could get my hands on, and keeping my ingredients bag clean of unwanted ingredients all are being applied already; now, i fully understand, that the healing resources are supposed to be limited, for each level, and that advancing mep up fully heals already. still, i am slightly confused to what else i can do to adjust. thanks for the hint with the discord, eventually i might drop by there, to look for further advice. =)
so even with understanding that the plants enemies in lvl2 are an AOE dmg check, the fight unnaturally prolongs itself with them splitting in 2 like hydra heads each time you kill one, and the game before that favors single target dmg heavily; - but that's just my observation so far.
A game that rewards makers of spreadsheets! Very cool way to make each combat a multi-stage puzzle - discovery, then min-max. Alchemy - creation from nothing.
I've been discovering many new games to try through your channel. Really appreciate it, and appreciate that extra bit of guidance about the demo button for this one. I had been scratching my head trying to locate it. :)
Game looks great so far, loved the new spin on card/deck building. A QoL improvement would be for the game to remind you to transmute reagents after battles, before you leave the endcard.
Love the concept and thought behind it! I think variable dmg (like dealing 5-7 instead of 6) could add more interesting challenges. Artifacts could modify those intervals for specific types of potions.
This is immediately so clever and just keeps getting better. I do wish you could gather ingredients- I had the idea of having runs using only the items you've found. But I'm p sure that's me wanting to play alchemist sim 😂
So I am still pretty early on in the video, but you brought up the idea that it will start to get really tedious trying to remember every permutation of recipe that you have already tried during that first guardian fight. I noticed earlier that the game actually does keep track of that for you! You put a combination of two items in that you had already tried, and the game labelled it as a "Miscombination" instead of labelling it as "???" So it sounds like the game will keep track of the combinations you have tried, and will inform you whether they are a miscombination or not later should you forget and try them again. Edit: 38:45 is a good example. If you notice, the game already tells you it's a miscombination before you even clicked combine because that was a combination you had tried already.
@@Retromation I got to that part later but didn’t want to further edit the comment. I’m glad you figured that mechanic out though. I think the game should add in that mechanic as part of the tutorial and have it be explicitly explained, otherwise a new player could miss it just like you did. I think the game is better played when you understand that mechanic. I also would like to see the recipes remember things that are substituted as well. Kinda sucks when you’ve been using a substitute to try to figure out your recipes, and then the real item doesn’t count as having been tried even though it has :(
Did Reto not notice he had a piercing attack which could have beaten the boss? Yes. Should this be considered a problem of the game's design or a natural challenge it introduces? Hard to say. Would Reto have probably ended the video after beating the boss anyway? Very likely. I like the idea of this game quite a lot as it currently stands, but I worry about its long-term prospects. It more or less functions as StS with weak basic cards and more energy, and you get a greater effect by using the cards in the proper order/position. However, the issue I notice is that using "more" ingredients is the same as using more energy and cards. When you factor in that added cost with the increased luck requirements for what determines a "good draw" the current balance feels a bit unwieldy. Either way, I look forward to seeing where this goes, but it remains very much a demo for now.
I feel like they should (if they haven’t already) have hotkeys, preferably configurable, that send the reagent you’re hovering over to a slot. Like pressing ‘1’ sends it to the top left.
I mean, we were taught growing up that "when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and is usually long," so I can get the thinking behind pronouncing reagents as "regents."
I think if you don’t use a reagent it might stay in your hand for next turn. Just a guess. But that would help for turns you don’t need block. It gives a reason to hold stuff instead of wild experimentation, not that wild experimentation is bad, just that it looks like its not the only option. Very cool and tough looking game though.
Oh Jesus why would they allow you to do this? 41:28. They really allow you to choose not getting the reagents OR taking the money by going to the map instead? That's kinda rough... They should probably make it so you automatically get the money for skipped reagents.
No, never force gameplay on people. If you want to make a "no money run" then don't take the money. Slay the Spire allows you to never take any reward ever. Unless forced by an event...
@@Seftak I mean… doesn’t STS also specifically say “Skip rewards” instead of “go to the map”? “Skip rewards” better communicates that you are forgetting to take something, and STS also doesn’t have a base mechanic where you can choose a card OR money. You either choose to take a card or you don’t. You choose to take money or you don’t. This is you choose to take the reagent OR you can choose to take money, so I think they should remind you of that so you don’t end up skipping all your rewards on accident and not even realizing it.
Nice Game if you make another Video about it click on the transmute button for the ingredients to get the Money for it you said once in the middle of the Video that you want the Money of it but skipped it.
Oh ... the bits on the right are ingredients but the "?" are the possible locations. I thought for a bit you needed to fill ALL the "?" locations with something.
@@dndmaps2544 No, an appropriate response if you saw the original comment, you saw their new edited version. I have now edited my comment because of the bait and switch that was pulled on me. More importantly for my reply, rude and _incorrect,_ which is where I draw the line, if you're rude you have to at least be right. Thank you so much for playing our game! We are ecstatic you liked it so much
Will there be an option to start with an ingredient artifact or some player choice in starting ingredient pool?
It would be good QoL if there was a warning when you continue to map without transmuting to gold
This game looks like a blast! Wish I didn't miss the Demo badly... would have loved to get my hands on it before I bought it next month!

Doesn't the "hand" tab use the reagents you have access to? It'd make sense if that were the case.

25:30 You do have a tab for recipes you have the ingredients for. It's the hand tab.
When you skip reagents you have to click the take gold button. You stayed at 90 gold after the elite fight.
oh well
This looks absolutely wild. The roguelike deckbuilder version of Alchemists (the board game) I didn't know I needed. I love this!

Holy crap! This game is absolutely cracked!!!! I am so excited to see more of this!
Ooh! I'm always down to see new alchemy mechanics. This is sorta similar in concept to an idea I've had, though I'd execute it differently.
Right now make it fast-paced and anxiety-inducing lol
Very cool people with good memory will excel at this game

Reto + Text to speech = Maximum entertainment
For a moment, my brain thought the thumbnail was a sentient magic cauldron that made its own potions and fought
Peak game design XD

I love the custom attacks idea!
a small meta-game exploit, you can use the unsolved hints to semi-guess what to use
(or at least get a rough concept of said potion)
the 3x3 grid sold the game for me.
reagents :D i loved that lol love the commentary
I just cringe when streamer gets older. Happy birthday man. Thanks for the games
super interesting game i cant wait to see the full release :)
This sounds really cool, and seems pretty in depth! I would love more vids on this when it comes out! I feel this would really help with memory!
@44:36 they did not have a shield but of you imagin it had an 8 point shield the math adds up. Must be a visual bug.

This is all I could think of the whole video!
Damn, wish I had come up with this game!
If this game gets as much depth as slay the spire it could be a pretty good one. A little bit of a fresh spin learning recipes each run.
I want to see more of this
56:45 didn't you have the ingredients for alchemical fire.
i kept reading "Reagent" as "Regret"
Well, regent is an actual word. Albeit, one with a WILDLY different meaning.

looks cool but seems like a lot of flipping back and forth between tabs.
