For the folks who are not used to japanese terms: Kamai's name comes from Kusari-gama, a weapon that's a scythe(kama) attached to chains(kusari), with the other end usually being a blunt weapon of sorts, like a steel ball. It's also the weapon Kamai yields. 'Hagoita' are wooden paddles used to play 'Hanetsuki', a New Years' game where you hit shuttlecocks into the air. In this event, the game is called 'Haneasobi'. As Arnold mentioned, Hitotsume Kozo and the Yugioh Hitotsu-me Giant have similar names, because 'Hitotsume' literally means 'one-eyed'. 'Tsukumogami' are youkai who originate from objects, sometimes taking form due to strong emotions tied to it. Almost any object can become a tsukumogami, from dolls and umbrellas, to hagoitas, and even clothing pieces and accessories.
Kamai is also a shortening for 'Kamaitachi' which is a youkai from the folklore who resembles a weasel and uses its limbs to cut enemies with blinding speed. The kamaitachi is also the name of a kind of whirlwind in some regions of Japan who is believed to be the manifestation of said youkai. In the manga and anime 'Ushio and Tora' the three weasel youkai of one of the first story arcs (Raishin, Juuro and Kagari) are actually a trio of Kamaitachi.
1:21:17 I hope Arnold got around to reading Chiori's weapon description, the Uraku Misugiri. It tells a tale of Arataki of the Front Gate and Urakusai the Kitsune.
I CANNOT BELIEVE that this event was a year and a half ago, this is WILD. We are closer to the release of Snezhnaya than to the release of Sumeru.......
Honestly with Ayato being recently featured doing stuff behind the scenes in Fontaine (film festival) and Liyue (cooking event), I'm half expecting the new Inazuma event to drop some lore crumbs/future intrigue.
11:40 given Thomas lore and how protective he is of the siblings I am slightly scared of him tbh. Especially finding out how many npcs are scared of him after having crossed the line. 31:18 Itto helping and acting like a older brother to younger yokai is so cute and something I didn't know I needed, big brother Itto lol.
I was quite surprised that those were actual yōkai and not children wearing masks lol and YEP HE DOES LOOK LIKE TANJIRO 😂 I was so hyped when Itto and Gorou finally had an interaction in front of us because I've been a strong believer of the two ever since Itto's voiceline about Gorou AND Ms. Hina. 😂 Hanyuuda Chizuru 🥺
I think the events are at their best when they focus on a little detail or the random people in the world. While I do love getting events tied to character lore (there's a reason why 2.3's Shadows Amidst Snowstorms is my favourite event), but knowing that those are limited time only and will never return kinda sours the mood a little. But here we have a self-contained story that is not required to enjoy the main plot/playable characters, but is still helping with character development and worldbuilding. It really makes the world feel lived in with all these festivals, all these diffrent people both humans and youkai and their perspectives, their interactions, etc. It's supplemental material, that is worth seeking out, but does not ruin the general experience if you miss it/don't know about it.
That cutscene also reminded me of another movie called Hotarubi no Mori e (Into the Firefly Forest). The masks and stalls and a youkai festival in general. I recommend the movie! Though it's really short, about 40min long :'D
Keeping the paddles in your inventory is like lugging a cadaver with you. 💀 on the flip side i do agree with a better memento. with world quest avatars in 4.6 now a thing. . . I do hope they will retroactively add Event Avatars for those who were there to Witness. :)
Wait, wait, wait! 3.3, Wanderer comes out, we have an event, we find a Fan, and Dango. It takes place in Inazuma, it's a Test of COURAGE event. "Thunderbolt and Lightning, very very frightening, me..." Hmmm, took me over a year and watching an Arnold video, I'm getting Oldge. LoL
Yooo! Canada gaming at long last let’s go! ( Yes I know this was a long time ago, but I remember seeing a lot of videos have this background and setup, and it looks so cool! I really like the decorations and the neon lights and even the art too, so I had to make note of that! ) On topic of the video, I am truly amazed how they made that cutscene, it looks really unique and very different from a lot of the cutscenes they’ve made, really good work with the storytelling too! I honestly wish I understood the story better when I did this quest back then, but now I’m better, and I’m definitely going to pay attention more since I’m going to start Honkai Star Rail very soon~
this was the first event I did after starting Genshin. I rushed to meet the quick start condition which I think was just “leave Rito” and I was so confused because I knew none of these characters AND on top of that there’s suddenly some pin ball games?? 😂 good times
omg same with how quick i had to do the rito quest and then bounced immediately to do this event and then Raiden shows up as Ei and I'm like "everyone told me you were evil??? what are you up to?!"
21:16 I'm guessing Youko is a specific type of kitsune or other fox youkai, but I'm actually super familiar with the Kappa and Hitotsume Kozo! I've just seen many inspirations from those specific youkai around. A Kappa lives in rivers and is usually turtle-esque in appearance, and a Hitotsume Kozo is quite literally a one-eyed kid xd It's funny when you know some japanese because the name is quite on-the-nose (Hitotsu: one, me: eye, kozo: kid, child, brat, youngster etc)
I remember when i played this event i thought that that lady gonna became our Parasol-sword cuz she also has one eye. Ad i still upset that wasn't the case
I remember lowkey seething when my friends told me Heizou and Kazuha were in this event. They're both a couple of my favorite Inazuma characters, but I was skipping this event due to suffering from Sumeru burnout, was very sadge lmao.
This is the first and only time the Yokai of Inazuma got proper representation as a whole…and it was spearheaded by 3 human children models with Yokai masks to represent them
I wish Inazuma was like that HSR planet with all the fox people. Sucks that we only see *one* Kitsune, *one* Tengu and *two* Oni. They should've been everywhere
This second round was the one i had the hardest time picking, as i have repeatedly told friends if i had to pick two characters to ACTUALLY be friends with in real life, yoimiya and Thoma are top of that list. And i like sayu a lot too, but thoma and yoimiya!!! I ultimately went with Thoma but like i spent a good twenty minutes deciding here 😂 I still really wish they had made actual models for yokai but I did manage to go with it as things went on.
The only thing I hate about this event is that it didn't get any cutscenes and even little yokais model were half baked. If Chizuru's final moment was made into cutscenes, it would be very beautiful and I would be brawling my eyes out 😭
It's understandable people were confused by the little yokai models, but it's actually a trope that yokai can just take the form of a human wearing a mask. Unfortunately, that trope doesn't translate well.
Chizuru!! I still remember how they tried to make her so scary in the trailer only to be one of the most beautiful npc in the game.
25:26 "We were just following you to see your reactions" - the majority of Arnold's Twitch followers.
lmao, real tho
6:20 great to see Ask-Me-For-Directions Arnold making all these cameos

lol arnold being depressed and immediately talking to sayu breaking the depression cracked me up

Chizuruuu design wise the best NPC for me. I loved her so much ❤
14:08 Not me thinking Ayato stole Ayaka's fan for us to search for
The mini games that came with this event was so much fun, I wish they'd do something similar again
I low-key loved the story of this event. And the game was pretty enjoyable too. We need more Yae-Ayato shenanigans...
Honestly with Ayato being recently featured doing stuff behind the scenes in Fontaine (film festival) and Liyue (cooking event), I'm half expecting the new Inazuma event to drop some lore crumbs/future intrigue.
The story about Kamai and the samurai remind me of Frieren 🥺

why the best events end so sad.
One of my favorite events in Inazuma, really miss HoYo to put on events like this that's rememberable and joyful ❤
1:19:30 Little did we know at that moment, he was just starting. XD
Ya this event was awesome i love GI events just sucks they are limited. Cheers Arnold

The first event where I am able to pay attention since I had caught up (started genshin in 3.2)

Im a bit confused, is that an old reupload ? If not, how’d you play an old event ?
No Shinobu and no Sara, worst event ever, 0/10, will not recommend
Question, how u start event quest from last year if I remember correctly.
It was time limited quest yes ?😅
This was recorded over a year ago.
