Hey, two questions!! 1. What is the difference bw the metatarsal gel pads that have vs dont have toe seperators and their effect on healing a Mortons Neuroma? (I just bought a pair with the seperators and was wondering if its neccessary bc it does feel awkward...but im not sure if switching to non toe separation ones will have be less beneficial for a neuroma since you mentioned the constriction of the toe box) 2. Where do I find the orthotic w the round pad embedded within it (as seen in your red pad) I checked your links and none of them have that, also searched Amazon and came up empty handed! Really appreciate your video and would appreciate a reply.. Subbed and liked
I just turned 21 and got the morton's neuroma , my dream job is to become a cabin crew which require wearing heels , my favorite sport is horse riding which requires a lot of pressure on the ball of the foot . My doctor proposed surgery which im too afraid to do which caused me to reject the idea. its really the worse thing to have especially at this age.
Thank you for your video. Thanks Dr. Tom Biernacki. Your video is a Good mix of humor, facts and suggestions. I suffered with MN from an exercise injury. Had injections, but they didnt help long-lasting. Here's what worked for me: 1) Changed my shoes to good fitting flats, rather than heels. (My foot size had gotten larger, and I wasn't aware of it, until I had a professional shoe fitting done). And yes added proper pads 2) Walked in sand as often as I could. 3) Ate a serious ANTI-Inflammatory whole food plant based diet and over time... I can now walk on tile and concrete barefoot, without pain. I prefer wearing shoes, of course, but I feel 99% of the pain of the MN is now gone!

Did you have the surgery? and if so, can you tell us how you’re doing? I’ve been suffering for 10 months and I can’t drive, live my life normally, or work. This is an absolute nightmare. I’m about ready to do surgery.
What worked best for me wasn't even mentioned...... get a cheap pair of orthotic supports from CVS, mark the area of your neuroma on the orthotic, cut a hole out of the orthotic and stick it in your shoe. When you step down, the neuroma bump slides right down into the space of where the hole was cut out. A large neuroma might need two layers of orthotic support. I suggest one hard and one gel support. After 2 months, my neuroma has shrunk to where it is almost non-existent.
But you're someone who gets it for sure, and we hope that's what's emphasized in this videoz get pressure off of it and the pressure will improve the swelling. We find getting a good shoe and insert works about 95%
You're the man! Thank you! Has your morton neuroma returned at all? Can you excercise again? Also, does it matter which CVS orthotic insert I buy? I get overwhelmed when I walk down the foot items isles. So confusing to me! 😆 thank you!
Thank you so much Doc. Iced my left foot down yesterday took ibuprofen put a sock on because I don't have the insert and extra piece on hand. I then wrapped a sock around my foot and tapped it in the area u added the extra pad today my foot is feeling a ton better I could barely walk on it!!! Been working on it all day your the best.
Genius. I don't know what I have except that about 6 weeks ago I noticed a shooting pain at the end of the second toe at every step (one next to big toe) and I feel a clicking under the ball pad of my foot if I rub there. No pain there but searing pain end of toe pain when I put my foot down and walk. Can almost not walk at all. Bought metatarsal pads and not much help. So after this video I took the insole out of my jogger and added the pads to the location in the video (underside of the insole) and wound with masking tape. I have walked around the house and no pain. Thank you for the advice!
I've got this problem walking like 20 miles in 4 days on tourism and I know is this Neuroma because when I walk I fell like a nerve pinched on the ring toe and at the bottom of the foot is inflamed in the same location you draw the point, so maybe I have a combination of Metatarsalgia and Neuroma. I bought a gel on CVS that is made for Metatarsalgia problem, also a CVS's Medical Heat Patch ( 2 dollar) and in 1 day I am feeling the pain is going away Thanks for sharing your knowledge and this very useful video, GREAT!!
I bicycle every day for about 45 minutes, and I suspect I may have Morton Neuroma. It does seem to help if I put a lot of padded supports into my shoes. It would be helpful to recommend some brands of shoes. This was a fascinating video, and something neither of the two podiatrists mentioned as a possible source of pain. Thank you.
God bless your heart I am so glad I stumbled across this video. I've been struggling with this for over a year. Enough that it's thrown my opposite hip to where I thought I needed hip surgery. It's my right hip I walk like a penguin. I just got the new shoes and already in 3 days I can tell a different but I can't wear them long I got the pad and only put the pad in. Now I'm going to go for the insert. Thank you thank you thank you
Found an accidental pain relief method discovered during one rainny day - shoe and socks were drenched with rain water and amazingly, the painful foot was soaked in the wet sock while walking and for that moment, the pain was gone ::). can try this we- sock method but remmeber to wear slipper prevent floor from getting wet
Doc, I have All the symptoms; Morton's Nerve is the prime suspect; ur a little weird but a Greatt Doctor! (Alpha Lipoic Acid, 600mg also helps)..thanks!

A great shoe should have a wide toe box so that your toes are not crunched. When trying on a shoe take out the liner that comes with it. Stand on the liner. If your toes go out beyond the liner, the shoe box is not wide enough. Brands such as Altra , Hoka, etc have wide toe boxes.
It’s my personal experience that at a certain point, you will eventually require surgery to deal with the problem of a neuroma. If you suspect that you’re developing a neuroma, get some proper shoes. You need shoes with a foot shaped toe box: Crocs are awesome. Altra
@@DrTomBiernacki I understand my experience is anecdotal. I had bilateral neuroma surgery in 2018. Suffered from the pain and discomfort for years. I tried many different kinds of non surgical treatments prior the surgery. From silicone toe spacers to acid alcohol injections… NSAIDS, daily massaging and icing the areas every day after work. Surgery was a last resort. Glad I did the surgery. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@alitlweird I’ve tried just about everything so so far, but I haven’t tried the orthotics. I’m at the point where I want surgery, but I don’t want to have to do it. Did you have decompressive surgery or did you have a neurectomy where they remove the nerve? How was the foot now?
@@jennykvox removed the nerve. (Again, Both feet.) the recovery was painful AF ! (I thought something was wrong that’s how bad they hurt for a few weeks afterwards) But now… it’s been about 5 years. The neuroma pain is gone… now my feet just hurt like they normally would after working/walking all day. But like I said: you HAVE to get proper footwear. Crocs and Altra brand are GOD SENDS! 🥳
The pain in my foot has been unbearable for 10 months. I haven’t been able to work, drive, or walk normally. I was in a surgical boot for 6 weeks and I think that did more damage. I can only walk in a post-op shoe now and still can’t drive. My MRI showed a neuroma in the third webspace, inter-metatarsal bursitis, extensor tendinitis of the third toe, high-grade cartilage fissures of the first toe, and early plantar fasciitis. I can’t believe that all of this came on suddenly for no apparent reason, and only in one foot. I never wear heels, and have good, solid footwear for work. I used to walk around my house a lot in socks. I don’t know if that would’ve done it. I am not an athlete and I do not run or walk regularly, but I was always on my feet at work. This all started out with a very painful third toe, and a small red spot directly over the PIP joint. It progressively got worse and spread to the second and first toes, the ball and bottom of the foot, and even the top of the forefoot. I have pins and needles and tingling all the time, along with some severely sharp, shooting intermittent pains……doctors initially thought I may have had an infection in the toe, but they did a ton of scans, including a white blood cell scan, and none of the scans showed signs of infection in the bone or joint. However, I was told the only way to rule that out is to perform a bone biopsy or joint fluid aspiration. Nobody ever did that. They sent me to rheumatology. I am still awaiting the results of all of those tests. My podiatrist believes that this is all nerve pain related to the neuroma. I find it hard to believe that this amount of pain in this much of an anatomical area is caused by a very small neuroma (it measured less than 1cm on MRI). I’ve tried every medication and every conservative treatment method, including Cortisone injection. Nothing has helped. I am currently on disability because of this. I have not tried orthotics yet, but my podiatrist did try taping my foot with the pad. It didn’t do much. I’m going to try the orthotics and what you said to do here. I’m completely desperate, but I don’t want to have surgery if I don’t have to. What are your thoughts on cryosurgery? I’m in Illinois and I’ve been told that there is essentially nobody here doing that surgery. Why does it seem to be that not many foot specialists are performing this surgery?
i just put a pad under my insole omg instant noticed walking slow my three toes are so numb from diabetes2 and caused by a injury falling on my stomach three years ago i am 56 and didnt expect to get like that i can hardly walk using a walking stick i once 3 years ago went to the gym every day now i cant i love love gym training. lost my feeling in my toes on left side painful every day but today i put a pad under my insole so we shall see what happens now cause dr tom biermacki said it on this video to do so. WOW please give me some comments back !
I had bad morton neuroma pain in both feet due to inline skate activity. I tried pads under my insoles and it made the situation worse. Only proper custom insoles with metatarsal domes worked.
Asics and Avia shoes being a bit wider than the New Balance that caused my neuroma are the best fix., Stretch your toes and foot anyway you can daily. Don't walk on hard floors use slides shoes or stay on the carpet. Avoid surgery. Get BETTER inserts for you shoes, not cheap ones. This condition will not go away but, can be reduced to a painless condition.
I developed a Morton's neuroma on the elliptical machines at the gym. I would do an hour one to three times a week. I was on my feet all day doing clinic hours, add in barefoot on the kitchen tile, high heels...And the other shoes I wore most of the time did not have much arch support. I finally tried a pair of Orthofeet shoes with three layer orthotics inside. I specified for Morton's neuroma, and they are helping. I also do infrared light therapy on the foot. I tried steroid injections with my Ped. 2-3 times, but I don't think the steroids help the nerve heal; it's only some temporary pain relief. I am going to try icing my foot and the stretches. I could get fancy and freeze a jade roller! Having this really clipped my wings, but help is on the way. Thanks for giving me something new to try.

Where could I find the orthotic insert that you showed (with the raised bump) and also the pad? I've tried moleskin as a pad, but it is thin and not very cushiony. The pad you are using looks much better. Thank you for the informative video!
Is this the same as Metatarsalagia? Bottom of my right foot hurts. Feels like an inner callous/bump. Getting some pain above my 3rd toe too 🤕 🦶 😡 Need a remedy 🙏
Thank you for such great info. If I have great orthotics, do I still need to put pad underneath it? What I about toe curls exercise? Ice top of foot or ball of foot? thank you so much for all the info and for posting such a clear and useful information.
Thanks for the info. suffering for 5 years now in both of my feet. I had alcohol shots like a nerve block but the pain is back. I bought those expensive inserts from the good feet store. And I think they cause other issues in my feet. I'm 64 going on 50 and I move around at a restaurant a lot. Getting 10,000 to 15,000 steps every day.

This seems like great advice for alleviating symptoms but will the neuroma heal on its own? I train barefoot a lot (martial arts) and would like to get back to barefoot training..
Thank you for your video, it is so nicely explained and demonstrated! I'm currently on sick leave, still not knowing what the Foot Pain I was "diagnosed" with by my GP is. Would it be possible to have a neuroma between the 4th and the 5th metatarsals, please? I've been working for 6 years in a warehouse (hard floors), walking in Dunlop rigid safety shoes for 10h/shift 😖 now, after 5 weeks of being mostly in bed, I see no improvement at all 😔 shouldn't it have gone away? The pain is more in the top of the bones than the sole. Finally, do you have any recommendations for safety shoes that won't kill my feet, please?
I had a Cortisone injection in the third webspace on the top of my foot and it did not feel good at all. as matter fact, when the Cortisone was going in, it caused electric shock type feelings around the nerve. After that, it really never felt that much better and the pain got worse in about a week. 😢 now I have burning pain and constant tingling in my third, second, and first toe and the ball of my foot and forefoot. It’s gotten so much worse. I can’t believe it. I’ve tried every single medication, including steroids, which I’m on right now, and nothing has helped. 😢
Thanks, all the info seems helpful. I just felt “the pebble” in my shoe a few days ago and the pain and discomfort hasn’t gone away since. Right foot. It doesn’t hurt to walk but it does to do anything extra. I will definitely try the ice and the pad under the insert. I’m quite active with working out and social dancing and still a little heavier than I’d like to be, but not ready for a walker give any of my lifestyle up. My exercise shoes are Brooks and Asics and those were specifically for my step and my foot type. I will be trying your tips before any cortisone or surgery. But thank you for putting this comical and helpful video for those of us who self diagnose and roam insurance-less. ... Now on to search another of your videos for an issue on my left ankle. 😄
We really hope that you feel better and thanks for watching our video! We're sorry to hear about your problem and we really hope you feel better soon! Just remember to see your podiatrist in person if you are not feeling better in the future! Thanks for being a fan!
Thank you for this informative video 🙏The advice on a type of shoe, cushion/pad has helped me a lot. After an accident in 2015 I eas told I had a damaged vein on my right foot which left me with a drop foot, pain and needles under the big toe. I have veen suffering until I saw this video. Thank you so much💔😢🙏
I was following ur channel from yesterday and finally today I subscribed it 😊. 6 months ago i had ankle twist and I am still suffering now also. Now, my pain has distributed to different parts of the left feet. This is a major concern for me as I can not walk properly. Currently doing crepe bandage to heal up my injuries.
Unfortunately there are a lot of variables to diagnose the injury, but the longer you have it, the more extensive the damage can be for sure, get seen by a doc if worried!

Didn't anyone have surgery to get it removed? That's what I had to do, and my pidiatrist/surgeon said it was a really big, nasty one. I guess I just don't understand -- it's not going to just go away. It's a benign nerve *tumor* after all, right?

That metatarsal pad is not for everyone the pressure of it can cause more pain. And if like the podiatrist I had doesn’t tell you to get wide toe box sneakers or shoes to accommodate the spread you will probably form a bunion from the chafing and your neuroma will cause great pain when it may have no longer bothered you.

Hi doctor. I also had this problem. I working wear safety boots for few hours. Now left foot center toe has a numbness sensation . Morning wake up my ball of the foot felt very tighten. March 16 until now but felt a lot better by cycling . When morning time, the tightness and numbness start again.
I don’t have the clicking and the if I press it it doesn’t hurt I just step down and it does that shocking pain. okay! I will get better shoes I will stretch my Achilles because once I stretch it I felt the pain. And I will get the padding for the shoes thank you so much!! And I haven’t worn heals for so long lol but I’m sure it started because of it!!!
@@jennykvox I agree. Makes perfect sense to me. And I've done some research and found reports that say neuropathy, foot numbness and Morton's Neuroma can be a side effect of wearing compression socks. I even read that some runners got this from wearing regular socks that were too tight!

Hi, my doctor seems to think I have Morton's Neuroma but I hear a lot of talk relating to the ball of the foot and my pain is on the top of my foot - although feels like its in the middle of my foot - as in nerves somewhere at the base of my toes. I'm wondering is it more extensor tendonitis?? Would the treatment still be the same?
My MRI said neuroma, digital extensor tendinitis, and inter-metatarsal bursitis. Nothing I’ve tried has given me any relief so far. However, I have not tried orthotics. I’m going to order them now. My podiatrist is about to send me to pain management, but I don’t wanna do that either. I’m about ready to do surgery but if I can get better without needing to do surgery, I would prefer that.
I have pain in that spot but on top of the foot, not the bottom. It hurts when I my toes try to push off the ground while walking. I’m also experiencing pain in the side of my heel. I also have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, so I’m wondering if this developed from that. Could this still be Morton’s neuroma?
Unfortunately these can be a few different things, but a neuroma can cause the pain aspect. We unfortunately can't get too specific without an evaluation, make sure to see a doctor!
Michigan Foot Doctors I think I love you!! What am I going to do?? Three years and one of them won’t go away. It feels like my life will never get better without having it surgically removed. I’ve had so many injections, the orthotics made the one on the left foot heal, it rarely flares up but going on four years I’ve suffered with right foot. Initially I didn’t have insurance to have surgery but for past year, I’ve not wanted to have surgery. I’ve often wondered if any of this stems from low back pain down to the feet? Oh, I’m 5’5, 140lbs (bout 10lbs more than normal) and I’d just kill to be able to put on a great pair of heels 👠. I’m so over wearing good, proper shoes doc. Where are you in MI?? I love coming there to snowmobile. I think your state is best kept secret in country!!! Ive wondered if maybe the doc that made the high dollar orthotics goofed on placement of right foot somehow? Why won’t it heal so I can get back to living!!!
Hey!! Seriously, I’ll try to adjust pad with your duct tape method, I’ll try rubbing other foot BUT any other suggestions?? Imagine four years like this. A girl has to wear a pair of heels sometime. Thank you and I enjoyed your video!!
Thanks for the video. I am experiencing the same click from the click test when I walk. Is that consistent with a Morton's Neuroma? I will have hours that feel normal and other where my 4th toe feels like it's on fire.

Hello thank you for the video !!! Will the toe stretchers help ?? I’ve been suffering with this neuroma between 2nd and 3rd toe gor the last 3 years ... I thought it was gout, arthritis etc.
Toe stretchers help in the way a massage or ice pack helps decrease the pain short term. the backbone treatments are usually good diagnosis and forefoot offloading shoes and inserts for a good amount of time until the symptoms go away.
Feels like a corkscrew going up into the joint it flares up sometime it put gel pad right where it hurts ibuprofen and apple cider vinegar and water drinking it helps I have a bad bunion on that foot it will hurt so bad I can’t walk then it go’s away for a while

Hey, two questions!!
1. What is the difference bw the metatarsal gel pads that have vs dont have toe seperators and their effect on healing a Mortons Neuroma?
(I just bought a pair with the seperators and was wondering if its neccessary bc it does feel awkward...but im not sure if switching to non toe separation ones will have be less beneficial for a neuroma since you mentioned the constriction of the toe box)
2. Where do I find the orthotic w the round pad embedded within it (as seen in your red pad) I checked your links and none of them have that, also searched Amazon and came up empty handed!
Really appreciate your video and would appreciate a reply.. Subbed and liked

I have pain so severe I can’t have my foot on the gas pedal. Sometimes it acts up when I put socks on. I have just opted for surgery. Fingers crossed.
Absolutely similar principle: get the pressure off the neuroma!
But you're someone who gets it for sure, and we hope that's what's emphasized in this videoz get pressure off of it and the pressure will improve the swelling. We find getting a good shoe and insert works about 95%
@@DrTomBiernacki Thanks, Docs. Your information was great!
You're the man! Thank you! Has your morton neuroma returned at all? Can you excercise again? Also, does it matter which CVS orthotic insert I buy? I get overwhelmed when I walk down the foot items isles. So confusing to me! 😆 thank you!
@@peacelovejoyandhappiness Find the one with a ball-bump in the middle...it absorbs a lot of front shock...
So simple! I need relief and so glad I found you!
The best and the most knowledgeable doctor everrrrrr😍
Haha thanks!
Thank you for watching!
We appreciate you!
I bought a gel on CVS that is made for Metatarsalgia problem, also a CVS's Medical Heat Patch ( 2 dollar) and in 1 day I am feeling the pain is going away
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and this very useful video, GREAT!!
That's means a lot, were very happy you are feeling better!
Thanks for watching and being a fan!
Great video. This is exactly the problem I have. I like the way you articulate and then recap at the end. Great visuals also. Many thanks!
Thank you.
from personal experience I can recommend orthofeet shoes.

Wide toe box helps so much.
It’s my personal experience that at a certain point, you will eventually require surgery to deal with the problem of a neuroma.
If you suspect that you’re developing a neuroma, get some proper shoes. You need shoes with a foot shaped toe box:
Crocs are awesome.
Altra
Personally I can't remember the last time I have had to do the surgery and I have seen hundreds of patients with it since that time.
@@DrTomBiernacki
I understand my experience is anecdotal.
(I thought something was wrong that’s how bad they hurt for a few weeks afterwards)
But now… it’s been about 5 years.

😢 now I have burning pain and constant tingling
in my third, second, and first toe and the ball of my foot and forefoot. It’s gotten so much worse. I can’t believe it. I’ve tried every single medication, including steroids, which I’m on right now, and nothing has helped. 😢
Thank you. I have molton neuroma on both feet. They can do nothing , yes i got an injectie but it's not working. I will try you'r methode.

Hey hi mate hope you are doing good how is the pain now?
Also have you heard of Indiba Laser?
Could wearing compression socks make this condition worse? I mostly feel numbness and tingling in my toes, not bottom of foot pain.
I would imagine so, since the nerve is already being compressed by the neuroma. Compression is not what we want to do.

Where can I find the 'pad' for the shoe insert?
How long do you need to ice it?
Please also discuss plantar fibroma . Thank you .
Where do I buy the pads?
I have pain in that spot but on top of the foot, not the bottom. It hurts when I my toes try to push off the ground while walking. I’m also experiencing pain in the side of my heel. I also have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, so I’m wondering if this developed from that. Could this still be Morton’s neuroma?
Unfortunately these can be a few different things, but a neuroma can cause the pain aspect. We unfortunately can't get too specific without an evaluation, make sure to see a doctor!
We find people still get great results by taking pressure off the front as the foot, no matter what is causing the forefoot overload.
