damn i used to watch this video when i was a kid, and it was just recommended to me again after many years of not having seen it. these guys are killin
one of my best memories of NOLA is Papa Grows Funk live at The Maple Leaf ... funk telepathy. June was rocking the guitar, the leslie spinning, and the drums shuffling ...
After watching this band in videos for so long I've realized I must visit New Orleans. Also if they are in my area I must catch them. Such heartfelt funk, love it.
OMG! Jeff! Did I just hear you break out of June's solo with a Michael Jackson "Rock with You" drum fill! ROFL!!! You're even laughing about it with Perot. LOLOLOL!!
I'll tell you a secret..."Back in the day" when these guys first started playing together, my friends and I would always keep an eye on June (the guitar player) because in addition to playing great guitar solos, he has a keen knack for what we termed "funny-face solos". The dude feels it, and he OWNS it, what can you say?
And on top of that... You will find mood changes in funk and jazz which may be short modulations to different keys that might be confused with playing out of key. But music theory aside... If it feels right it feels right and this is something that definitely feels right to me :)
Saw these cats in NOLA, couldn't handle being there for more than one beer... Another one and I might have had to hang myself when I get home. Yeah, they're that good. :D
He is not out of key. He hit a couple of clinkers, but that happens live and when you play too damn fast. But 99% was what he meant to do and it was right. Now I don't particularly like his tone, kinda mushy, but thats just personal taste. There is no doubt that he was tearing it up.
@Alimacca Regardless of all the arguments you want to make, the point is to OTHER people it does sound good, to me it sounded great and the key is 100% fine, the bits you didn't like are known as dissonance and there are WHOLE OVERTURES written TO BE dissonant with loads of accidentals. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, however, a statement is not an opinion, you said he needs to learn to play in key, HE IS IN KEY. If you don't like it fine, however, your STATEMENT was wrong. End
@bbrupbacher I'm not implying at all that i know something that he doesn't , but you can talk about chromatic scales and modes until the cow's come in, but if it doesn't sound good then your doing something wrong. i think YOU have obviously spent too much time with your head in a book and have missed the point that the most important thing is how it sounds and NOTHING else and it sounded terrible to me.

We opened up for theses guys at Smiths old bar in Atlanta. Great band but, carring that hammond up those steps was a beast!
Wow, what a band! But what a drummer!!!
Sick Bass! Nice groove by everyone!

I don't think it matters which of the saxes he picks up-- you know it's going to be amazing. LOVE IT!
I'll be funking all day now... w00t!
j'adore!!!
le rêve de ma vie!!!
faire un vrai funk!!
Zou
vraiment groove la deuxième partie à fond le funk ça décoiffe ! merci encore
These guys are my new favourite funk group. The guitarists style reminds me of Frank Gambale.

opened for the Rads in NYC the other night~great
Ooh-- that's us put in our place, innit?
Such erudition... logic... respect... class.
Those snare ghost notes are on fire
@bbrupbacher - I believe it was Thelonius Monk who said "Keys? We don't need no stinkin' keys!"
Bending the fundamentals of music, bouncing funky bops to the euphoric soulful bliss that jazz bleeds.. don't hate, dance.
And on top of that... You will find mood changes in funk and jazz which may be short modulations to different keys that might be confused with playing out of key. But music theory aside... If it feels right it feels right and this is something that definitely feels right to me :)
Excelente musica
I was here! :D
@Alimacca He's a world-class musician up there on stage with other world-class musicians. You? Ain't. 'Nuff said.
Saw these cats in NOLA, couldn't handle being there for more than one beer... Another one and I might have had to hang myself when I get home. Yeah, they're that good. :D
WHOOOOAH!!!! Orgasmus Music
Can you please...please...upload the Wild Magnolias _new suit from 2016!!!!!
Well it's not off key, but it's all cool. Jazz is all about appreciation and telling someone they are stupid takes away from that. PGF forever!
@fynokkyetto Jason Mingledorf (sp?). Easily looked up.
BASS MAN!!! x )
5:36 "I wanna rock with you!" Nice Michael Jackson quote on the kit!
Donald plays an AMAZING Cowbell! MORE COWBELL!
Man , I wish everyone took a solo
Stellar. Haters please go watch something else that you like.
sounded pretty good to me

Stanky!
You have no clue
@Alimacca you mad? I hope you don't have a goal to be a musician, cuz you surely don''t have a good start being so close minded.
my man on the guitar needs to learn to play in key. sounded awful........
