It's got the 2.7 Twin Turbo v6 EcoBoost.. yes it is fast... I got the same engine in my Fusion.... 380 torque hitting u at below 4,000 rpm is outperforming well over 95% of the vehicles on the roadway is the reality. Those numbers are very close to bmw twin turbo v6 numbers.... and bmw charges double the price for that performance.

The 2.7 is a tank honestly. I was skeptical about it when I got it in my new truck but after driving it for a while I must say it is a very good engine. My previous truck was a 5.0 and the 2.7 is very comparable to the coyote.

Joe Bellanger If they can revise the TCU it will make a massive difference. The power is there, it’s the way it was delivered that kept me wanting more. I’m wondering if they had limitations on available transmissions that could hold that much torque while having optimal gear ratios to balance economy with performance.

    • @Dave-fx5zw
      @Dave-fx5zw 5 років тому

@@SarahnTuned I think this is a brand new transmission from ford. There will probably be several software updates in the first year or two for them getting it dialed in perfectly.
Transmission tuning gets real complicated real quick on modern setups. BMW, Audi, JLR, Dodge, and more all use essentially the same ZF 8 speed, but it was mostly on the manufacturer to get the tuning correct for the application. Some got it right, some are not quite there when it comes to the shifts being what you want them to be.

    Fantastic review Sarah!
Volvo's been using that style foam engine cover for a few years, they don't crack, just tear apart and fall to pieces!
That CGI block is a monster. It is a derivation of the Ford/JLR Lion TDV6 that was extremely stout. As long as they don't run into head lift issues like some of the EB4s, and the transmission can keep from becoming a big box of neutrals, you're absolutely right, that thing should be able to put out some real power with a few tweaks.

With regards to Soft engine covers . Many pedestrians involved in road collisions are thrown into the air and sustain serious or fatal injuries when they land on the car and their head hits the bonnet which is reinforced by the engine block underneath. So to soften the landing car manufacturers have implemented Pedestrian Safety Systems - they may have foam filled bumpers, pop up bonnets and Soft Engine Covers. I knew Volvo has implemented this (see Volvo XC40) but was not aware Ford had done the same. Hope this helps.

I own one of the rarest "crossover" SUVs (2007 Subaru Forester XT Sports 5 speed) and am lamenting not only the Forester's demise, but, the demise of cars/trucks/SUVs with a manual trans.
Ford at least gave a nod to performance/handling, and, with the aftermarket, this should be an entertaining vehicle to own. I'm curious to see what's released just for ECU tuning, as that's what folks will probably do first.

Granted, you have to wind up the automatic rubber band trans but once that bad boy lets go, wheeeeeeeDoggy! I love carving the NM mountains n highways with it and it's not even a sport. The added hp of the new st power plant and added plushness of the interior will definitely be having us trade up to a used low mileage one once reliability and integrity is proven 👍

Dont worry. You wont. Soon enough there will be $6k in rebates, $4k mark up.
      It's an American car lol.

I love Capybaras! My favourite big rodent. Actually, an adult can weigh up to 66kg (about 145lb) - that's almost my weight!

Yeh if once ita tuned. The transmission will be different. Livernois takes care of that in their tune. Yeh dual clutch would be great. Wish they put the ZF8 speed in it.

I have to agree, Ford should have just called it a Sport not an ST. The ST Badge should be reserved for vehicles which are truly fast and fun to drive, mainly FAST.

Did you notice that after it gets hot the engine power starts to dip? I have been hearing that heat soak is a issue with that engine. 52k for a edge is a bit much with so many other choices.

21 inch? The 2011 to 2014 had 22 inch. And I liked them. Also, the edge, explorer, MKT, etc. All have rubberish foam covers.

Good review Sarah! Speed Channel or Velocity should sign you up for your own show.
The 2015+ Edge Sport with just a Livernois Motorsports tune runs in the 12’s now, so I would expect their ST tunes to be there as well.

That Ford should have came with a 3.5L or 3.7L twin turbo, that would rip like tator chip.

The Australian model Ford Territory SUV had the same power from a 4L straight 6 single turbo. How ever that engine can hold 8-900hp with minimal engine mods and turbo. The block can hold 2000hp.

@@chrisrosie0584 the Barra right? Just watched a video comparison with that engine and the 2JZ and the RB26. Very good watch. Wish Ford would have sold the Barra in the States.

DE I work at a place that will remain nameless, but to say I’m familiar with the Ford Edge/Lincoln Nautilus would be an understatement. The engineers tried for almost 24 months to figure out a way to sandwich a turbo (with plumbing and intercooler) under the hood of a 3.5L Edge about 6 years ago. No dice though. There just wasn’t enough room. Hence the introduction of the 2.7L.
