I hear ya. I was thinking the trade would happen in a neutral place away from where I lived. With that said, I was also thinking it would be very valuable. I went back and forth on adding that one.
@@lindasmith6202 I wouldn't think you would barter ammo with a drunk person. I was more thinking they are separate items that have their individual value.
There are trusted friends, and you may need things they have. It's still a win-win, especially if they are helping defend your neighborhood. Just saying there are exceptions...
In blacksmithing school we always had several aloe-vera plants scattered around the premises to have emmediate access to it when people got burned. It IS a life saver.
By the way I do talk about blacksmithing at the 10:47 mark of this other video I did titled "15 Important Skills You Will Need & Can Trade After The Collapse" ua-cam.com/video/ioZq8FNFNNs/v-deo.html So in addition to blacksmithing, I talk about other important skills.
I do go back and forth on bartering. I want to be self sufficient, but there may be items I need. I would only barter with people I knew and in a neutral place.
Hello all, by the way, I have just released the companion video to this video if you want to check it out. It's titled "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World" ua-cam.com/video/kfLVANEab1s/v-deo.html
It's true, people will come for you. Imagine you're the guy that didn't prepare hardly at all but you've got a good hunting rifle and 2 kids. You have nothing to trade but the rifle, and that would be a death sentence in itself. You know who has food, but those guys aren't giving it out like it's a soup kitchen and they're very wary of strangers. You look into the hollow, hungry eyes of your children and you know that they're going to die if something doesn't change. You think about the food and how unfair it is that they have enough to trade but they won't even spare a morsel for your kids. You pick up your rifle. "Stay here, stay quiet, don't come out for anyone but me, and I'll be back...." Now Mr Barter has a scope looking for his head all day from the ridge - maybe more than one.
Agreed! Definitely don't forget seeds. I have a companion video to this one where I talk about seeds. It's titled "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World". As soon as you let anyone know that you have items to trade, someone will come along and take it all away from you... says a little old lady who doesn't have a gun.... I just get a darn good supply for myself and tell no one about it.
Just be a "gray woman" then! I did a video on that topic titled "How to Blend In to Become the Gray Man After Society Collapses" ua-cam.com/video/e4Tki6QOlDg/v-deo.html
@@ThePrepperAlmanac Thank you for responding. Yes, as a near 80 year old woman living alone with no one around to help me, I have been prepping for the past three years. I have enough food (mostly home canning) to keep me for a couple of years if need be as well as other essentials. I have wanted to have a "community" of like-minded people around me, but alas, I seem to be on my own. I think I am wisest in my situation to be as you say, a "grey woman". But I would always help others as much as I am able to do and do have medical supplies and other items I could share or use for barter but I would have to be careful who knew what I have.
@@Dakiniwoman Please know that "gray man" is a prepper term and not age related. I did a whole video on it. The term 'gray man' (or 'grey man' in British English) describes someone who looks unassuming and who doesn't stand out from the crowd, but is in fact well equipped for an emergency situation. In crisis situations, there are benefits to going unnoticed and blending in.
@@TampaDave Yep...In general, I practice being a "gray man". I even did a video on that topic titled "How to Blend In to Become the Gray Man After Society Collapses" ua-cam.com/video/e4Tki6QOlDg/v-deo.html
Yeah, remember covid? Everyone wanted to start canning. My wife cans so we had dozens and dozens more she was to lazy to wash that I had stored away but lids were limited. I found some on -line that were rediculously overpriced (gouged) but I bought a few packs , just in case. Cheap now so great item to stock pile.

Howdy, just another thought... take care of your feet and hiking boots. You'll need 'em. Often overlooked. Col. Hackworth was known for his personal feet inspections/first aid. And yes, I am THAT old... :)
@@Mike-fx4ut Funny you say that. The other day, my motion sensors were going off. I checked my cameras and kids were on my lawn. I was mumbling to myself "what are they doing on my lawn". I could see that they were just getting a ball and playing, but it's funny what I was thinking.

That is awesome. I wish more people did the proper planning like you. I'm hoping in a small way, this channel encourages people that haven't been planning to plan/prep. My feeling is that more people that prep, then there are less people that will try to take your stuff. Even though I have taken measures to hide my supplies in multiple areas.
The Morton Salt Mine in Grand Saline, Texas sells Bulk Rock Salt for $65 per Ton with a 10 Ton minimum. I believe that Salt will become as valuable as Gold as it once was age's ago.
Very true!! Salt will be very valuable. I looked up some specific use cases for it and I may do a video just specifically about salt. I enjoy those single subject videos. Kind of like the one I did for duct tape. Anyway, here is a quick outline. I'll do more research. Salt, often overlooked, is a critical component of survival in a prepper or grid-down scenario. Its uses extend far beyond seasoning food. Food Preservation Curing: Salt is essential for curing meats, preventing spoilage and providing a long-lasting food source. Pickling: Creating pickles and sauerkraut with salt is a classic method of food preservation. Dehydration: Salt aids in the dehydration process, extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. Health and Hygiene Electrolyte Replacement: Salt is vital for maintaining electrolyte balance, especially during dehydration or illness. Wound Care: Salt can be used as a disinfectant for minor wounds in a pinch. Water Purification: While not a primary method, salt can temporarily help purify water by creating an inhospitable environment for microorganisms. Other Uses Toothpaste Substitute: Salt can clean teeth in an emergency. Detergent Booster: Salt can boost the cleaning power of homemade detergents. Barter Item: Salt has historically been a valuable commodity, making it a potential barter item.
Don't forget mini bottles of liquor. It can be used for antiseptic or to get drunk on. Family Dollar sells 7 packs of individual coffees for a dollar, also a good item
Oh yes! Stock up on that alcohol. It has great barter value and has a lot of different uses. I even did a video on the topic titled "Survival Superpowers: Genius Ways Preppers Use Alcohol" ua-cam.com/video/jkXQI6ipO0E/v-deo.html
Oh yes, absolutely. I even personally need reading glasses and picked up two 3-packs (so 6 overall) at my local Sam's Club, so I always have some on hand. And those will definitely be valuable.
Hello, as a follow up, I have just released the companion video to this video if you want to check it out. It's titled "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World" ua-cam.com/video/kfLVANEab1s/v-deo.html
@@sherrycaudill5747 Oh yes! And I came across this info as well! Having an extra set of reading glasses is a good idea for a prepper scenario for a few reasons: Visibility is crucial in an emergency. Being able to read maps, gauges, or instructions clearly during a crisis can be vital. Eyeglasses are fragile and easily broken. Having a spare ensures you still have functional vision if your primary glasses break. Reading glasses are relatively inexpensive and compact. You can easily store a spare in a first aid kit, bug-out bag, or other survival gear. Here are some specific types of reading glasses to consider for preparedness: Multiple Diopters: If you don't know your exact prescription strength, consider a multi-diopter pack that offers a range of magnification levels. Adjustable Focus: Adjustable reading glasses allow you to fine-tune the magnification for your specific needs. Shatterproof Lenses: Polycarbonate lenses are more resistant to breaking than traditional glass lenses. Compact Case: Look for a pair that comes with a compact case for easy storage. Additional considerations: If you wear prescription glasses, consider getting a spare pair made specifically for emergencies. Contact lens wearers should also pack a backup pair of glasses and solution, or talk to their eye doctor about switching to daily disposable lenses for preparedness.
Maybe. I personally would only barter with people I knew and in a neutral location. I just thought it would be interesting to see the potential barter value of items you can pick up cheaply now.

I'm not so sure bartering would be a safe thing. Desperate people do desperate things and after about a year most people probably won't have anything I'm going to want or need. I have stocked up on everything I will need for one year. I can grow my own vegetables and hunt for my meat I have a 150' deep well that I can get my water from. Once shtf starts My small butt well armed group will protect what we have.
Looks like you are well established! That is awesome! My personal goal is 1 year. I have about 6 months stocked up now, but my garden is going pretty well. As for bartering, the longer a SHTF scenario is happening, people will definitely become more desperate.
You should never store flour for more than three months, because the mould that grows on it will kill you. Also, it is highly explosive. Instead, store grains in specialist vacuum packaging to ensure it is mould-free. You forgot to include condoms. Besides the obvious, condoms are very versatile and can carry as much water as a bucket, and weight less. They can be used in conjunction with charcoal (add a layer of gravel and clay) to filter water. They are also essential if bathing in rivers or ponds that may contain parasites. Also feminine products. The pads make excellent wound dressings (their original purpose) and cleaning sponges. They are a top priority and will be a highly valuable bartering item to have in your stash, even if you don't use them or have ladies in your household. Excellent list. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks for my friend. I appreciate it. By the way, I did a whole video on the alternate use cases for condoms. Yes, definitely toilet paper. We remember how people hoarded that stuff a few years back. I have another companion video (a 3rd one) coming out in the next couple of days and I have toilet paper currently in the script. Now I need to put the video together. A small rocket stove would be ideal. It doesn't give off a lot of smoke and you can cook a meal with just using sticks. You also can make a rocket stove with just a few cinder blocks.
Great idea. Thanks for adding that. For anybody seeing this comment, here is some additional information regarding rocket stoves. A rocket stove is a great tool for preppers for a number of reasons. Here's why: Fuel efficient: Rocket stoves can burn a variety of small fuels, such as twigs, sticks, leaves, and even pine cones, very efficiently. This is important for preppers who may be facing a situation where they have limited access to traditional fuel sources like propane or natural gas. Portable: Many rocket stoves are small and lightweight, making them easy to transport and use in a variety of locations. There are even ones that can be made from readily available materials. Durable: Rocket stoves can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, bricks, and even cob. This makes them very durable and long-lasting. Quick heating: Rocket stoves can heat up quickly and efficiently, which is important for boiling water or cooking food.
I like the air pump idea , but would substitute ( or add) , hand pump. On the same line , solar charger. That car is useless if the battery is dead. I believe in collodial silver too and you need power to make so solar power would be huge.
Oh yes re: solar. This video was getting a little long, so there will be a part 2 to this video and a companion discussion to this video's discussion. I'm putting the script together now and it includes multiple solar items.
I have now released that companion video to this video. It's titled "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World" ua-cam.com/video/kfLVANEab1s/v-deo.html Check it out at your convenience. Thanks.
Salt is cheap (dependent on the supply chain. and we cannot produce it at home.) It is critical for our health, and also that of livestock, especially in hot weather to prevent dehydration, Salt is also used in meat curing, tanning, flavor and preserving foods without refrigeration., I recommend salt with iodine since in a food crisis, we will have limited options to obtain nutrients. A great barter item. Pepper corns would be a welcome source and great barter item. Pepper corns maintain freshness longer.
Thanks for adding that. Salt is definitely an item you need. This video is the first in s series of videos I have. You'll notice the items are in alphabetical order in the video. My companion video is "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World" ua-cam.com/video/kfLVANEab1s/v-deo.html I'm already working on the script for the 3rd video in the series and it has mention of salt.
Yes black pepper is a tropical plant and the pepper corns won't germinate once they are dried out. So pepper is a good item to prep up whole as the whole corns stay fresh longer. Than ground.
@@juliefall2892 Exactly! And I came across this additional information. Black pepper is an excellent addition to your prepper stockpile. Here's why: Long Shelf Life: Black pepper has an almost indefinite shelf life when stored properly in a cool, dark place. This makes it a reliable seasoning in emergency situations. Flavor Enhancement: It's a versatile seasoning that can enhance the taste of almost any dish, making bland survival foods more palatable. Potential Medicinal Benefits: While not a substitute for medical treatment, black pepper has been used traditionally for various ailments, including digestive issues and respiratory problems. Additional Uses for Black Pepper: Preservative: It has antimicrobial properties that can help extend the shelf life of other foods. Insect Repellent: Some sources suggest that black pepper can deter insects, though this is not definitively proven. First Aid: While not a primary treatment, black pepper can be used as a temporary measure to help staunch minor bleeding when bandages aren't available. Remember: While black pepper offers multiple benefits, it's essential to prioritize proper medical treatment and hygiene in emergency situations.
Animal traps, unless you are starving, use Live traps. Why? Easy if you catch 6 rabbits (even pidgeons) you will have (almost guaranteed) have caught both sexs with the end result being you have a breeding colony and secured a protein source, you have reduced your exposure to danger or injury since you won't be going out competing with others who are also hungry and maybe stupid... Just a suggestion
By the way, I have just released the companion video to this video if you want to check it out. It's titled "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World" ua-cam.com/video/kfLVANEab1s/v-deo.html
First off there are things you never barter away…ammo, firearms, medical supplies, food, and fuel. This first item shown is an electric air pump…only good is you have a source of electricity. A hand pump or foot pump would be more reasonable…aluminum foil is a waist…you can only reuse it a couple of times…and how much would you need to make a shelter…what would be good if having traps and 550 cord, duct tape, booze and pot, matches and candles, cheap rain ponchos, shoe laces, small sewing kits, personal hygiene items like soap, hair brushes, deodorant, tooth paste and tooth brushes. Clothing like, gloves, socks, tee shirts, windbreaker type jackets stocking caps. Plastic utensils, water purification tables or life straws.
Thanks for chiming in. I do appreciate it. I did put these in alphabetical order, that's why air pumps is at the beginning. Here is the companion video to this one. Great ideas, thank you for sharing. Just one question. IF, 95% of population is not preparing and will have nothing to trade other than needs and wants and possibly unpredictable labor; and the other 5% is prepared and offering the same items we are offering, what will we get for having these items?
Good question! You never know what you'll need. My hope is to personally be so self-reliant, that I actually don't need to barter with anybody. However, if you need to and they don't have items you specifically need, maybe they have some skill-set that you can learn on and barter for.

One of the cheapest forms of water purifier I’ve found as well as being great for storage is bleach tablets. It’s a fairly small bottle found in the laundry section at Walmart $5 for 30ish tablets. I was able to buy a dozen bottles of these bleach tablets and store them without using a lot of space; yielding me potentially gallons and gallons of bleach when reconstituted
Great tip! I go to Walmart once in awhile, but go to my local Dollar General often. I'll check there as well. I saw these on Amazon too: amzn.to/3Aj5Ffg
@@ThePrepperAlmanac yes just like that. Notably the tablets I purchased at Walmart are unscented. Prepping is essential as living in Hawaii is precarious at best. We are totally shipping dependent. With 1.5 million ppl condensed into such a small area it would be hairy. I do recall the behavior of the people when Iniki hit. It was definitely dog eat dog. But I recall propel empties the supermarket out in a matter of a few hours. I was like whoa. Never again. I plan to have supplies AND self defense.
@@tikitinatv1420 That is an interesting extra stressor in Hawaii. I could see supply chains disrupted too in a collapse of sort sort, since you are shipping dependent. And I remember seeing those crazy fires last year in (if I remember correctly) Maui.
Beans do not supply all the amino acids needed. You must eat another incomplete protein with the beans like corn or rice. I eat them with cornbread. I have a P-38 on my keychain for opening cans and a side cutter manual can opener for home use. A side cutter opener will not put metal into the food. Never, ever use charcoal indoors for cooking. Extra firewood can be a barter item if you live in a colder area of the country. You can order sutures and skin staplers online. If you have an injury and supplies you do not know how to use then someone may be able to help who does not have the supplies.
Air pumps are nice, but don't forget about manual variants. And motor vehicles will be useless when the last fuel is used up or gone bad. So get a decent cargo bike and the items to maintain it: lube, spare chain, spare tubes, extra control cable, patch kits, and even a few spare gears.
Agreed! And I do talk about having bikes in other videos. Thanks for adding that. Also, I even have another video that talks about scavenging for supplies. It's titled "20 Places Where Preppers Can Scavenge for Supplies After The Apocalypse" ua-cam.com/video/f91Ujxp7l8o/v-deo.html

Local raw honey will stire indefinitely. It is excellent for healing i jured skin, including burns. The trick is it draws insects and things that want to lick the honey, like pets. So, you may need a bandage to protect the honey treated injury.
Good to know. Thanks for adding that for the community. I looked it up to gain further knowledge as well. I came across this additional information. Local raw honey can store indefinitely under the right conditions. Honey's low water content and high sugar concentration create an environment inhospitable to bacteria, mold, and yeast. This is why it's one of the few foods that can last for centuries without spoiling. Proper Storage for Maximum Shelf Life To ensure your honey remains in optimal condition: Store in a cool, dark place: A pantry or cupboard is ideal. Keep the lid tightly sealed: This prevents moisture from entering the jar. Avoid exposing to direct sunlight: Sunlight can degrade the honey's quality.

Way back in the 1970's, magazines like the "Mother Earth News" ran feature articles on this "Barter Goods" subject. Things like alcohol and tobacco figured prominently back then. Today you might add in all the "Weed" or "Grass" related products so many have become addicted to. Certain basic food stuffs to. Like flour, sugar, oil, oatmeal, etc. Even the small green bottles of propane! There will be lots of common items in great demand. Simple medicine like the common fever reducers: asprin, Tylenol or Advil. Yup. Lots and lots of stuff to go on such a list.

Yep! I found this info too. Bleach (sodium hypochlorite solution) does degrade over time. Here's a breakdown of its shelf life: Concentrated bleach: Loses effectiveness as a disinfectant after about 1 year. After 6 months: Bleach starts to degrade and become less effective. Here are some tips to maximize the shelf life of your bleach: Store it in a cool, dark place (between 50°F and 70°F) in a sealed container. Avoid extreme temperatures (both hot and cold). If you're unsure about the age of your bleach, it's always best to err on the side of caution and replace it. You can often find the manufacturing date on the bottle, which can help you determine its age.
@@belindamiller6349 Here is some info. on powdered bleach that found. I hope this helps. The shelf life of powdered bleach, also known as bleach powder or hair lightening powder, can vary depending on the brand and storage conditions. Generally, unopened powdered bleach can last for up to a year under ideal conditions. However, some sources say it can last even longer, up to 3 years. Here are some tips to extend the shelf life of your powdered bleach: Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep it in its original container. Make sure the container is tightly sealed after each use. If you're unsure whether your powdered bleach is still good, it's always best to err on the side of caution and throw it out. Here are some signs that your powdered bleach may have expired: It has a strong chlorine odor. It has changed color. It is no longer effective at lightening hair.
A perfect solution for bleach is Steramine tablets. It is a restaurant industry standard. It is more effective than bleach and does not have a shelf life. Get a jar at the restaurant supply store . They are blue tablets that you dissolve in a gallon of water . Put some in a spray bottle too for surface cleaning
NEVER buy extra things to barter with. Buy what you need for you and if you cover that and have extra money then buy better gear and more ammo. Forget getting rich during a collapse by playing the merchant - you will die, or something worse than death will happen. If you manage to survive then there will be plenty of spoils to go around.
I'm personally very meticulous about watching the expiration dates. As for disposal, I always watch for the "disposal days" in my community. Was writing stuff down and got to 20:00. You said white gas would store longer than propane. My understanding is propane never goes bad, not for a 100 years. white gas is not going to last that long.
Thank you for tuning in. It's always appreciated. And thanks for the questions to keep me in check. I did come across this info. White Gas vs. Propane: Which Lasts Longer? It's complicated. While both white gas and propane are popular fuels for camping stoves and lanterns, determining which lasts longer depends on several factors: Energy Density: White gas generally has a higher energy density than propane, meaning it packs more energy per unit volume. So, theoretically, a given volume of white gas should last longer than the same volume of propane. Burn Rate: How quickly you burn the fuel will significantly impact how long it lasts. A high flame will consume fuel faster than a low flame. Equipment Efficiency: The efficiency of your stove or lantern will affect fuel consumption. Weather Conditions: Cold temperatures can affect the performance of both fuels, but propane is more susceptible to cold weather issues. In general: White gas tends to last longer per volume, especially in cold conditions. Propane is often more convenient and easier to use, but its performance can be affected by cold weather. Ultimately, the best fuel for you depends on your specific needs and preferences. Consider factors like where and when you'll be camping, the type of equipment you have, and your desired level of convenience.
I believe it. That's why it's important to ready yourself now and study. I did this other video and I mention what happened in Venezuela. It's titled "Surviving a Complete Economic Collapse as a Prepper!" ua-cam.com/video/-zCaquFotd8/v-deo.html Check it out if you get a chance.

@@ThePrepperAlmanac Great. Thank you for what you do. I've a question, please. Could you explain how a compost toilet works. I saw it on another channel covering a Native American land rights protest a few years back. Are they efficient or ok for the environment,? Love your channel. Thanks. 🇱🇷 💗
@@Christina-th5di Hi! Thank you for that. I'm a small channel, so getting that feedback is appreciative. As for a compost toilet and how it works, I came across the following information: How Does a Compost Toilet Work? A compost toilet is a sustainable alternative to traditional flush toilets. It works by separating solid and liquid waste, then composting the solid waste. Here's a basic breakdown: Separation: The toilet is designed to separate urine from solid waste. Urine is often diverted to a separate container, while solid waste is collected in a composting chamber. Composting: Solid waste is mixed with a carbon-rich material like sawdust, wood chips, or coconut coir. This mixture creates an environment for beneficial bacteria to break down the waste into compost. Ventilation: Proper ventilation is crucial to remove odors and moisture, ensuring the composting process works efficiently. Maintenance: Regular turning of the compost and adding carbon-rich materials helps maintain the composting process. Once the compost is mature, it can be used as a soil amendment. Is it Good for the Environment? Yes, compost toilets are generally considered good for the environment. Here's why: Water conservation: They don't require water for flushing, saving significant amounts of water. Reduced waste: The solid waste is transformed into a valuable soil amendment, reducing landfill waste. No sewage treatment: Eliminates the need for sewage treatment plants, which can be energy-intensive and have environmental impacts. Reduced carbon footprint: By reducing water usage and eliminating the need for sewage treatment, compost toilets contribute to a lower carbon footprint. However, it's important to note that proper maintenance and management are essential for a compost toilet to function effectively and safely. Improperly managed compost toilets can pose health risks, so it's crucial to follow guidelines and regulations. Check this one out on Amazon: amzn.to/3yhA0KI

Cotton balls should not be used on open wounds. It leaves fibers behind that interfere with healing, and can cause infection from improper healing. Clean cotton cloth from used clothing would be a better chouce. Even better, store plenty of cotton gauze now.
Very true. Thanks a lot for adding that. I came across this info as well: Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) The cornerstone: Most recognized for its medicinal uses. Benefits: Soothes burns, cuts, skin irritations. Contains vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Prepper use: First-aid, skincare, potential food supplement. Cultivation: Relatively easy to grow indoors or outdoors. Other Notable Aloe Varieties While Aloe Vera is the most common, other varieties offer unique properties and potential benefits: Aloe Arborescens (Aloe arborescens): Known for its potential immune-boosting properties. Can be used internally and externally. Requires more specific cultivation conditions. Aloe Ferox: Produces a bitter gel with potential laxative and digestive benefits. Used in traditional medicine for various ailments. Requires specific growing conditions. Aloe Aristata (Lace Aloe): Ornamental but also has medicinal properties. Smaller and easier to grow indoors.

I do not want to be the "benevolent provider". People who don't prepare now will also not keep their mouth shut later. They will then come and try to take what they want or "need", and they won't mind coming through you to get it. You might get them first. Are you prepared to deal with the body count? Got a place to dispose? Most people don't. How ARE you going to deal with death in a post-collapse world? Because someone has to.

Thanks for the question. Here is what they look like on Amazon: amzn.to/3NYEHxb Here is a definition. A bivvy (short for bivouac) refers to a small, lightweight shelter, typically used by campers, hikers, or preppers as a temporary place to sleep or rest, especially in emergencies or when minimalist gear is desired. It is designed to be compact and portable, offering basic protection from the elements. In a prepper or camping context, there are two common types of bivvies: Bivvy Bag: This is a weatherproof, often waterproof, cover that fits over your sleeping bag to provide additional protection from rain, wind, and cold. Bivvy bags are typically used as a standalone shelter in situations where a tent is too bulky or unnecessary. They are lightweight and packable, making them ideal for ultralight backpacking, survival situations, or as an emergency backup. Bivvy Shelter: Sometimes referred to as a bivouac shelter or simply a bivvy, this can be a more structured, small tent-like shelter, but still designed to be very lightweight and portable. It might consist of a tarp, or a small, one-person tent that’s designed for minimal setup and maximum ease of transport. Bivvies are most often used in survival situations or for minimalist camping, where the goal is to carry the lightest, most efficient shelter that can protect you from the elements and provide a safe resting place.

In a prepper situation where electricity is unavailable, charging a conventional electric air pump won't be possible. However, there are alternative ways to inflate air mattresses, bicycle tires, or other inflatable gear: Manual Air Pumps: Foot Pump: A manual foot pump is a great option for preppers. It requires effort to use, but it's reliable and requires no electricity. Hand Pump: Similar to a foot pump, a hand pump uses manual pressure to inflate air chambers. It might require more upper body strength but can still be effective. Double-Action Pump: This type of pump allows air intake on both the push and pull strokes, potentially inflating items faster than a single-action pump. Alternative Inflation Methods: Compressed Air Canisters: Small, portable compressed air canisters with appropriate nozzles can be used for quick inflation. However, these canisters are single-use and require replacement. Tire Inflator with CO2 Cartridge: If you have a tire inflator compatible with CO2 cartridges, you can use them to inflate air mattresses or bike tires. Similar to compressed air canisters, these are single-use. Bellows: While less common, bellows can be used to manually inflate air chambers. They require sustained effort but can be an option in a pinch. Considerations: Air Volume and Pressure: Manual pumps might require more effort to inflate larger items to high pressure. Consider the size and pressure requirements of your inflatable gear. Double-Action Pump Efficiency: While double-action pumps can be faster, they might require more upper body strength compared to a single-action pump. Availability: In a prepper situation, prioritize having a reliable manual pump readily available in your emergency kit.

And I did a video about the alternate uses of baking soda titled "Clever & Innovative Prepper Uses For Baking Soda & Hydrogen Peroxide (Insane Uses)" ua-cam.com/video/yaGpuQiU_xU/v-deo.html Yes, baking soda is consumable. It's commonly known as sodium bicarbonate and is a staple in many kitchens. It's used as a leavening agent in baking, but it also has other uses: Antacid: It can help neutralize stomach acid for temporary relief of indigestion. Ingredient: It's a component in many over-the-counter medications. However, it's important to consume it in moderation. Excessive consumption can lead to side effects like: Upset stomach Nausea Vomiting Diarrhea Always consult with a healthcare professional before using baking soda as a remedy.

Do not use any oil on a burn until after the heat has gone out of the burn, otherwise the oil will keep the heat in the burn Cut onions into flat s like rings but don't separate. So you can lay then flat on the burn. If your nose is running allergy or cold flu, put onion rings into a cup with boiled hot water , sip this it will dry up the nose.
Food Preservation
Curing: Salt is essential for curing meats, preventing spoilage and providing a long-lasting food source.
Pickling: Creating pickles and sauerkraut with salt is a classic method of food preservation.
Dehydration: Salt aids in the dehydration process, extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables.
Health and Hygiene
Electrolyte Replacement: Salt is vital for maintaining electrolyte balance, especially during dehydration or illness.
Wound Care: Salt can be used as a disinfectant for minor wounds in a pinch.
Water Purification: While not a primary method, salt can temporarily help purify water by creating an inhospitable environment for microorganisms.
Other Uses
Toothpaste Substitute: Salt can clean teeth in an emergency.
Cheap sunglasses and reading glasses
Oh yes, absolutely. I even personally need reading glasses and picked up two 3-packs (so 6 overall) at my local Sam's Club, so I always have some on hand. And those will definitely be valuable.
Hello, as a follow up, I have just released the companion video to this video if you want to check it out. It's titled "Priceless Barter Goods for a Post-Collapse World" ua-cam.com/video/kfLVANEab1s/v-deo.html
Reading glasses! Yes
@@sherrycaudill5747 Oh yes! And I came across this info as well!
Having an extra set of reading glasses is a good idea for a prepper scenario for a few reasons:
Visibility is crucial in an emergency.
Here are some specific types of reading glasses to consider for preparedness:
Multiple Diopters: If you don't know your exact prescription strength, consider a multi-diopter pack that offers a range of magnification levels.
Additional considerations:
If you wear prescription glasses, consider getting a spare pair made specifically for emergencies.
Contact lens wearers should also pack a backup pair of glasses and solution, or talk to their eye doctor about switching to daily disposable lenses for preparedness.
True.i have my old prescription glasses as a back up.but bought a couple pairs at the dollar store for Others.
I would not want people to know i have extra items. You are putting a target on your back.

Great idea. Thanks for adding that.
For anybody seeing this comment, here is some additional information regarding rocket stoves.
A rocket stove is a great tool for preppers for a number of reasons. Here's why:
Fuel efficient: Rocket stoves can burn a variety of small fuels, such as twigs, sticks, leaves, and even pine cones, very efficiently.

Here's why:
Long Shelf Life: Black pepper has an almost indefinite shelf life when stored properly in a cool, dark place.
Additional Uses for Black Pepper:
Preservative: It has antimicrobial properties that can help extend the shelf life of other foods.

Liquid bleach has a limited shelf life..
Yep! I found this info too.
Bleach (sodium hypochlorite solution) does degrade over time. Here's a breakdown of its shelf life:
Concentrated bleach: Loses effectiveness as a disinfectant after about 1 year.
After 6 months: Bleach starts to degrade and become less effective.
Here are some tips to maximize the shelf life of your bleach:
Store it in a cool, dark place (between 50°F and 70°F) in a sealed container.
Avoid extreme temperatures (both hot and cold).
If you're unsure about the age of your bleach, it's always best to err on the side of caution and replace it. You can often find the manufacturing date on the bottle, which can help you determine its age.
@ThePrepperAlmanac what about powdered bleach?
Here are some tips to extend the shelf life of your powdered bleach:
Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
Keep it in its original container.
Make sure the container is tightly sealed after each use.
If you're unsure whether your powdered bleach is still good, it's always best to err on the side of caution and throw it out. Here are some signs that your powdered bleach may have expired:
It has a strong chlorine odor.
In US army we used dry bleach that was canned in 1968. This was used in 1991.
I hear ya. Plan for the worst and hope for the best. I'm using my extra cash now to stockpile.
Question: How often do you have to replace medicines in your storage? How do you dispose of them if you have not needed to use them?
I'm personally very meticulous about watching the expiration dates. As for disposal, I always watch for the "disposal days" in my community. Sometimes the police department will have drop offs for unused medicine a few times a year. Here is additional information about drop off locations from the FDA: www.fda.gov/drugs/disposal-unused-medicines-what-you-should-know/drug-disposal-drug-take-back-locations
Good info, but your assuming people will be civil enough to “barter” and not just ransack your house with guns and take it

While both white gas and propane are popular fuels for camping stoves and lanterns, determining which lasts longer depends on several factors:
Energy Density: White gas generally has a higher energy density than propane, meaning it packs more energy per unit volume.
In general:
White gas tends to last longer per volume, especially in cold conditions.
Propane is often more convenient and easier to use, but its performance can be affected by cold weather.
Ultimately, the best fuel for you depends on your specific needs and preferences. Consider factors like where and when you'll be camping, the type of equipment you have, and your desired level of convenience.
White gas is also about 12$ a gallon.

@@ThePrepperAlmanac Great. Thank you for what you do.
I've a question, please.
Could you explain how a compost toilet works. I saw it on another channel covering a
Native American land rights protest a few years back.
Are they efficient or ok for the environment,?
Love your channel. Thanks. 🇱🇷 💗
@@Christina-th5di Hi! Thank you for that. I'm a small channel, so getting that feedback is appreciative. As for a compost toilet and how it works, I came across the following information:
How Does a Compost Toilet Work?
A compost toilet is a sustainable alternative to traditional flush toilets. It works by separating solid and liquid waste, then composting the solid waste.
Here's a basic breakdown:
Separation: The toilet is designed to separate urine from solid waste.
Here's why:
Water conservation: They don't require water for flushing, saving significant amounts of water.

Benefits: Soothes burns, cuts, skin irritations. Contains vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Prepper use: First-aid, skincare, potential food supplement.

Other Notable Aloe Varieties
While Aloe Vera is the most common, other varieties offer unique properties and potential benefits:

Houseboat. Fully stocked.
That would be a good option!
So, since not defined, I can only guess a Bivvie is a tarp?
Thanks for the question. Here is what they look like on Amazon: amzn.to/3NYEHxb
Here is a definition.
A bivvy (short for bivouac) refers to a small, lightweight shelter, typically used by campers, hikers, or preppers as a temporary place to sleep or rest, especially in emergencies or when minimalist gear is desired. It is designed to be compact and portable, offering basic protection from the elements.
In a prepper or camping context, there are two common types of bivvies:
Bivvy Bag: This is a weatherproof, often waterproof, cover that fits over your sleeping bag to provide additional protection from rain, wind, and cold.

How do you charge up the air pump?
In a prepper situation where electricity is unavailable, charging a conventional electric air pump won't be possible. However, there are alternative ways to inflate air mattresses, bicycle tires, or other inflatable gear:
Manual Air Pumps:
Foot Pump: A manual foot pump is a great option for preppers.
Alternative Inflation Methods:
Compressed Air Canisters: Small, portable compressed air canisters with appropriate nozzles can be used for quick inflation.
Considerations:
Air Volume and Pressure: Manual pumps might require more effort to inflate larger items to high pressure.

Yep! That's why you need to hide your stuff and hide yourself. I did these other videos on these topics.
In terms of hiding your stuff I did this video titled "10 Places Where Preppers Can Hide Their Emergency Supplies" ua-cam.com/video/iCbsbU38Wek/v-deo.html
In terms of hiding yourself, I did this video about being a "gray man" titled "How to Blend In to Become the Gray Man After Society Collapses" ua-cam.com/video/e4Tki6QOlDg/v-deo.html
Mustard is great for burns better than aloe
Interesting. Thanks for adding that. I'm going to do a little more research on that and may have to stock up on more mustard! Thanks for stopping by the channel!
coconut oil is good for burns too... also has important nutrients, many other practical uses and quite shelf stable for couple of years or more if kept away from extreme heat/temps
Raw onion bound onto burns is releiving and heals miraculously , I got burnt on my stomach with boiling water , raw onion saved me. I left it on overnight .the blisters even went away overnight.
Egg white no yolk at all, painted on sunburn will take the sun burn out keep reapplying when it dries out until the burn is gone at least a good hour.
Egg white on any burns .
Do not use any oil on a burn until after the heat has gone out of the burn, otherwise the oil will keep the heat in the burn
Cut onions into flat s like rings but don't separate. So you can lay then flat on the burn.
If your nose is running allergy or cold flu, put onion rings into a cup with boiled hot water , sip this it will dry up the nose. If you have no antihistamines it's instant relief.
@@groundcontroltomajornong8085 Thank you! Good to know!
@@ThePrepperAlmanac my friend attended to a man who had been in a terrible bike accident and was bleeding badly. She put A LOT of cayenne on the wounds to stop the bleeding. The paramedics were surprised. Apparently it also reduces pain. I completely forgot about this tip until watching your video. Thanks for the good info and reminders. I pray daily and rely on God to guide me through rough times. ❤
Portable rocket stoves are great
Agreed! I like this one on Amazon: amzn.to/4doN4wy

Nice! :)
People with excess iron in blood should not use cast iron for cooking. The iron in the pan DOES leech into food when cooking.
Thank you for adding that. I appreciate it.
I found this into online too: "It's true that iron can leach from cast iron cookware into food. This is particularly noticeable when cooking acidic foods like tomato sauce or vinegar-based dressings."
Never baryer from your home. And never ammo unless you really know the person. Family ect and that could turn risky
Agreed! I would only barter with people I knew and in a neutral position.
I would rather hide and be a "gray man". I did this other video about being a "gray man" titled "How to Blend In to Become the Gray Man After Society Collapses" ua-cam.com/video/e4Tki6QOlDg/v-deo.html If you have time and check out the video, let me know what you think.
"PRICELESS BARTER ITEMS"
Absolutely UNTRUE. All of these items are
- and will - be available for the correct amount of money/cash.
I'm with you. I was using it as more of an adjective, such as
"having great material or monetary value especially for use or exchange."
Good video but beans are not a complete protein. They do not contain all 10 essential amino acids.
Agreed! This was just more of a bartering video. I do have other videos on the channel that break down what foods you should have in your stockpile. Have a great day!
You need the foil to make your hat or so I am often tell me I use.
All the people that are told to wear tin foil hats, usually are correct in the long term. Oh and here is how to make one...lol

Vacuum-packed coffee beans!
@@andersd8956 I say... to anyone who drinks coffee every day... try going without caffeine for a few days and see what happens.
