You start off thinking this movie will make you afraid of flying. No, it makes you afraid of flying, bathrooms, kitchens, trains, garages, Paris... pretty much everything!
Speaking of John Denver... Fun fact(?) John Denver's twin nephews, Will and Hank Deutschendorf (Denver's real name) played baby Oscar in Ghostbusters 2. Funner fact(?) I opened a martial arts studio with them in San Diego in 2006. Will is now the sole owner.
This movie taught a whole generation what anxiety feels like. The actor that plays the Coroner played the original Candyman a few years earlier before this movie. It was kind of a Candyman cameo
In a lot of Native American cultures, an owl is a messenger of death. So the fact that one hit his window before the name Tod flew into his lap had a lot of us natives already confirming his death 😊
ABOUT THE 5 DIRECTORS: Google is showing you all the directors from all the Final destination movies, 1,2,3,4,5. The first one is James Wong and the rest are for the sequels.
@@hermunkulus Yeah, he directed FD1 & FD3, that's probably why both films have more of a similar tone. Same with David R. Ellis, FD2 & TFD had a slightly similar tone as well. I remember Wong also directed some episodes of The X-Files as well. RIP David R. Ellis.
Ikr? Still my favorite line in the franchise. Tony Todd delivered that line perfectly. One of my favorite moments in this movie, let alone the franchise. :)
I'm so glad you watched this knowing absolutely nothing about it. That's really the way to get the full experience of this movie. A lot of people go in already knowing the concept and how the franchise works, and then dont really like the first one as much since it is the one that sets that framework and they already know how it works. I'm so glad you enjoyed it cause this franchise is iconic!!
That always stood out to me too but to be fair the man is really going through it. He just lost his son in a devastating plane crash and now he finds his other son who survived that plane crash dead in the bathroom. I could forgive him for saying some BS at that time. Plus I think he was also drinking.
The mortician, Bludworth, is never confirmed to be death or not. A very heavily speculated character, some theorize he is Death giving false hope to the victims, and others say he may be a guardian angel genuinely trying to beat death but is always one step behind.
The sixth film called Bloodlines, due to release in 2025 is supposedly going to go into more detail about Bludworth’s history. It’s also going to be a reimagining of the franchise, based on what’s been reported. Not follow the same formula as the previous 5.
Final destination seriously has affected my life. Even as a truck driver I won’t drive behind the trucks hauling what everyone already knows. I’ll just slow down and let it get miles ahead of me.
Yeah especially if you’ve watched the second movie… because the beginning sequence takes place on the highway in a bad accident, like this was on an airplane

18:52 The song is called "Into the Void" By Nine Inch Nails from "The Fragile" double album (1999). They clearly just put it in there because the words "Final Destination" are in the lyrics, little did they know they just added a total banger to the soundtrack.
The great Tony Todd from the modern horror classic "Candyman" (1992) played the ominous mortician in the morgue. There are other references to horror films of the past in a very meta way (influenced by "Scream," of course).
The paranoia and tension in this movie is so well done. How any second, something could happen. The slightest little thing could somehow lead to an awful accident. Really freaked me out when I first watched this movie years ago.
Fun Fact 2: Flight 180 was based on TWA Flight 800, which exploded over Long Island Sound after taking off from JFK for Paris. The cause of the explosion was attributed to exposed wiring running through the fuel tanks that ignited vapors inside.
Did you all notice that the part of the sign that fell at the very end of the movie had the number 180 on it? The same number as the original flight they boarded at the start?
As one who works in the funeral home industry, morticians will still be present at funeral homes late when families have requested an immediate funeral. If this happens, the descendents aren't placed in morgues, and are processed immediately for the following day funeral instead......not to be grim 😅
As a former mortician assistant bodies will sit up, twitch, jerk, gasp and fart, yes I said fart lol as rigor sets in, tendons will contract along with muscles deteriorating, we cut all major ligaments and tendons and use a special glue to seal up any orifices to prevent gases from leaking as the body breaks down. As a millennial, this movie will forever haunt my dreams. As a teenager I went through a literal time period in my life where I was afraid I'd set off my own death sequence.
Shirley Walker was an amazing composer. She did the iconic theme and soundtracks for the 90s Batman animated series, in addition to movies like True Lies and Escape From L.A.
Final Destination (2000) was one of the first three American horror films that kick started the New Millennium. The concept of death being the only unbeatable force within a horror narrative explains how insightful and proficient the early 00s were especially with James Wong behind the director's chair (known for being a veteran writer on the X-files). Love watching this movie with someone who has no idea what's going on. Before I watched the movie, I knew what the movie was about. Damn it, it's so much better. Not. knowing.
Some film scholars have called this movie and its sequels "grand slashers" because they follow some of the same rules as traditional slashers, but the deaths are bigger and more violent and the opening disasters have large body counts. I don't know why, but I just love the idea of a "grand slasher".

Fun Fact 2: The film title was originally Flight 180. But New Line didn't feel the title worked despite the director's attempt at keeping the title, New Line won and called it Final Destination
@nilesstark Final Destination is a much better title another fun fact is this was directed by James Wong [that list of directors MARY read was likely the other directors that helmed the sequels] said director also directed a few episodes of the X files . i really enjoyed this reaction Be safe out there .
I love how John Denver songs keep popping in the background. I have not listened to one of his songs other then this movie since I first saw this movie. If one comes on the radio I immediately shut the radio off.
The premise of the movie is they escape death but death comes back for him because they were supposed die in airplane so death comes back and takes all the ones that survived
10:11 Mary, if you want a real life story about regretting last words to someone for the rest of your life, look into the last thing Waylon Jennings said to Buddy Holly. 🤯
Movie composer Shirley Walker is the name behind the music of "Batman: The Animated Series", possibly the best animated masterpiece ever made. This movie is a non official remake of Sole Survivor (1984), a little horror movie with a similar premise (for those time, it's worthy enough). The best part is how the lethal 'incidents' happen, which pay tribute "The Omen". The decision for not showing The Death makes it scarier.
Fun fact - many of the characters are named after classic horror film directors. The film can even be traced back to a classic TWILIGHT ZONE episode - 'Room Twenty Two'. The franchise is fun - the next one is arguably the best.
This is one movie where if you were in it... you had zero chance. It's cute how you tell the teacher to call the cops. What are they supposed to do? Death is literally stalking her. People wouldn't assume it's something supernatural right away. Astrology is bunk too. That's a waste of brain space. There used to be 13 signs and they got rid of one to coincide with the months, now nobody knows their sign.
Coincidentally, I went into watching this movie at the theatre, knowing absolutely nothing except the genre, which is not something I like. But it was the only movie showing at the time we got to the theatre. My first blind reaction! And I surprised myself by finding the plot line original. I thought it was done on a shoestring budget, limply acted, poorly written and SUPER engaging because the idea of cheating death is so intriguing! I never saw any of the others in the franchise but I’d probably watch Mary’s reactions if she decided to do more of them.
Fun Fact 5: There were deleted scenes and an alternate ending where Alex and Clear hook up and Clear ends up pregnant. This changes the ending in where Alex grabs the wire but instead of being knocked off by the explosion and no one intervenes Alex died. This ending would cut to Clear having Alex's child (even though the baby looked alot like Carter😂😂) and basically the film ends with Carter and Clear knowing they won but does the "All we won was a chance at a full life, a chance I don't plan to waste. Because for all of us there is that one day." closing line. Sadly the Test Audience didn't like the ending. So they changed the ending to a more adrenaline shot ending.
We've known since the days of Sisyphus that you can't cheat death and the harder you try the worse it gets for you. My biggest question is what triggered the initial premonition. I've only seen the first two movies so I don't know if that ever gets answered later but if we're dealing with a realm where fatalism is definitively true and a sentient force ensures it then there had to be some form of opposing force that initiated the vision and thus the deviation from the grand design.
Mary you have GOT to watch Final Destination 2! In my opinion it's even better than part 1. Seriously! You gotta watch it with the quickness! Love your work girl! You rock! Keep up the great work! Final Destination 2! Seriously! Hurry up! 😅
What an awesome premise the unseen force of death as the main villain ! it's really interesting to see the chain reaction effect in their death scenes 😲 it reminds me of a game called mousetrap this is just right for this time of year i hope you continue with the series Cheers MARY and be safe out there .
Please watch the second one! It's my favorite. My dad's favorite singer is John Denver who's song "Rocky Mountain High" is played several times throughout this movie. He died in a plane crash several years before this was made. I always think of this movie now when I hear that song.
the plane crash is also a true story when TWA flight 800 was on it's way from New York to Paris to Rome with 230 people 16 of them were high school students on a school trip to Paris
The film is based on an actual event, the explosion of TWA FLT 800, a Boeing 747-100 that subsequently crashed into the Atlantic near East Moriches, New York, on July 17, 1996, 12 minutes after takeoff from JFK, on a scheduled international flight to Rome with a stopover in Paris. There were no survivors. Parallels between the movie and the actual event include the type of aircraft involved, departure airport, both planes had students heading to Paris for a class trip, both planes exploded not long after takeoff and the cause of the explosion was the same in both cases, I believe. The news report Alex watches shows actual footage of TWA FLT 800's wreckage burning in the water. I would imagine the relatives of those killed probably weren't fans of this movie. Another thing I noticed about the film are the frequent references to water. Water is everywhere. Water is commonly a symbol of death, burial and resurrection. Death seems to be personified by water in the film. Seems like it was raining at the airport. The plane's wreckage falls into water. There's the water in the bathroom when Tod dies. There's a scene with Alka-Seltzer being dropped into a glass of water. There's the steaming kettle and the water leaking from the cracked mug. Alex almost drowns in shallow water. There's the canoe trip. There's the swimming-pool. It's raining when they're in the car. One of the characters is even named "Clear Rivers." Even the beer they're drinking could be considered water. Likewise, the Vodka, which means "water" in Russian, I believe. "Water, water, everywhere and all the boards did shrink." Also, all those electrical events in the film are analogous to water. Electricity is commonly analogized to water, e.g., electrical current etc. So, electricity = water = The Grim Reaper. It's great to find all this symbolism in a film that's primarily meant to be a good, albeit somewhat gruesome, entertainment, which it is. Of course, there's also the somewhat more obvious references to the number 180, John Denver, who died in a plane accident, etc. Oh, don't forget six months = 180 days, guys! Also, the signage at the end in Paris also has 180 on it. 180 also means turnaround, so it could also be a warning, at least initially. Another thing I saw was the use of German language and references to German filmmakers who were known for some famous, what you might call, horror movies. "Der Tod" is the German word for "death." Tod's the first survivor to die. In real life, if I were him, I wouldn't like that name and would have been very concerned from the get-go after the plane exploded. The character of male teacher Murnau, who died on the plane, is almost certainly a reference to F. W. Murnau, the German director regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers for his work in the silent era. He famously directed "Nosferatu," a film about a vampire. Agent Schreck is a reference to the German actor Max Schreck who played the vampire, Count Orlok, in "Nosferatu." Interestingly, "Schreck" in German means "scare" or "fright." Agent Weine must be named after Robert Weine. He directed "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," another German horror movie. Also, the surnames of the other characters in the film had associations with real people involved in the past production of Hollywood horror/thriller films. For example, the female teacher was named Valerie Lewton, and there was a Hollywood producer famous for horror films name Val Lewton. A sort of tip of the hat to all of them, I suppose. Yes, everyone gets a kick out of the line "Are there any survivors?" Ah, NO! It blew up in the air. But, you know, I wouldn't put it past someone actually asking that question, especially a reporter. Oh, after the train crash, look at Carter's pants. Yeah, and Tod foreshadows his death by making a hanging motion on the plane when Alex agrees to change seats with the girls. I think the lady teacher's death was most over-the-top because she was married to the film's producer or someone like that. An inside joke, I guess. Oh, Alex has a nice a$$, too. Real nice. I think the mortician is an agent of Death. I mean, it looks like he's coming out of a cave. Something supernatural at work, there.

PLEASE watch final destination 2,3,4, and 5. IMO 2 and 5 are the best, far better than this first one. THANKS!!!!
#2 is definitely AMAZING!!
#2 is the best of them all and #5 is my second favorite. 10/10 agree and NEED Mary to watch the rest of them 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
The last guy to die played Dr Doom in the Fantastic Four.
I didn’t know that, very cool fun fact.
What? No he didn’t
@@cinemaclips6074 then you hadn't seen Fantastic Four!
@@jamesmcclain5005 bruh Julian McMahon played Dr Doom in the Fantastic four! The last person that died in this movie is Kerr Smith! Kerr never played Dr Doom
I can believe all the circumstantial death scenes in this movie, but I can't believe a train wouldn't stop after hitting a car.
“This is such a prolonged death scene!”
Welcome to the franchise Mary. 😂
I thought you already saw this film ages ago!! Love Clear Rivers!!❤🎉
16:53. That's Candyman lol
This movie was meant for reactors!
Fun Fact 2: The film title was originally Flight 180. But New Line didn't feel the title worked despite the director's attempt at keeping the title, New Line won and called it Final Destination
@nilesstark Final Destination is a much better title another fun fact is this was directed by James Wong
[that list of directors MARY read was likely the other directors that helmed the sequels]
said director also directed a few episodes of the X files .
i really enjoyed this reaction
Be safe out there .
@@harveylee51 agreed, Flight 180 doesn’t sound very scary
This originally started as a X-Files episode idea, and would’ve involved a roller coaster gone wrong, which eventually became the third movie
I love how John Denver songs keep popping in the background. I have not listened to one of his songs other then this movie since I first saw this movie. If one comes on the radio I immediately shut the radio off.
Tony Todd (The Mortician) puts in an amazing performance in the 1991 Tom Savini remake of Night of the Living Dead.
5 final destination movies, 5 different directors.
Yes her name is actually Clear. And I love how these movies are all about atmosphere like how CHRISTINENAND and THE WRAITH from the 80s is
The premise of the movie is they escape death but death comes back for him because they were supposed die in airplane so death comes back and takes all the ones that survived
10:11 Mary, if you want a real life story about regretting last words to someone for the rest of your life, look into the last thing Waylon Jennings said to Buddy Holly. 🤯
16:46 Tony Todd!!
AKA Candyman!! 🪝
African American's boogeyman
Did you notice Carter pissed his pants after Billy died?😅
Source Code is like the edge of tomorrow movie you were describing at the beginning
Another fantasticly amazing reaction Mary ❤❤🔥🔥.
Billy's driving instructor said he's gonna die at a young age because he got the lowest passing score on the driving test
I said it once and I’ll say it again, these kinds of movies like Final Destination make me never want to leave my house much less get out of bed😹
Death comes in mysterious ways and we can never escape it in the end.
We can. If we become Super Heroes.
Can't wait for you to check out the rest of these movies. There are some very creative deaths in the later ones
The beginning of this movie up until the plane exploding was from a episode of the twilight zone called "22" i seem to be the only one who knows this
Devon Sawa who did Alex in this movie had also done Dan Hatch in Night of the Twisters.
Tony Todd, the mortician, also was in The Crow.
Don't know if you heard it, but each time they're about to die, John Denver song comes on.
He died in a plane crash. #2 is pretty good.
I am convinced this movie series was the inspiration for the mobile game YOLO.
Once you start the final destination movie, now you have to react to the whole franchise
Fun fact - many of the characters are named after classic horror film directors. The film can even be traced back to a classic TWILIGHT ZONE episode - 'Room Twenty Two'. The franchise is fun - the next one is arguably the best.
In Canada we don’t have those religious people in the airports. But when we went through LA in the late 90s they were lots of them there.
LOL they didn't like it because Alex dies and Asshole Carter survives...
This franchise has taught me a lot of things and gave me a lot of fears that I never knew about. Enjoy.
Don't miss the books, they're good too.
It took a few views to notice but after the train happened you can see Carter pissed his pants. Subtle funny detail that most miss the first watch.
Ah Tony Todd, the man who sounds like a monster
We've known since the days of Sisyphus that you can't cheat death and the harder you try the worse it gets for you. My biggest question is what triggered the initial premonition. I've only seen the first two movies so I don't know if that ever gets answered later but if we're dealing with a realm where fatalism is definitively true and a sentient force ensures it then there had to be some form of opposing force that initiated the vision and thus the deviation from the grand design.
HE PLAYS THE CANDYMAN IN ANOTHER MOVIE
16:55 that's Tony Todd. We love Tony Todd round these here parts.
Mary you have GOT to watch Final Destination 2! In my opinion it's even better than part 1. Seriously! You gotta watch it with the quickness! Love your work girl! You rock! Keep up the great work! Final Destination 2! Seriously! Hurry up! 😅
Fun fact. Final Destination was originally ment to be a X Files episode
What an awesome premise the unseen force of death as the main villain !
it's really interesting to see the chain reaction effect in their death scenes 😲
it reminds me of a game called mousetrap this is just right for this time of year i hope you continue with the series
Cheers MARY
and be safe out there .
"Water, water, everywhere and all the boards did shrink."
Also, all those electrical events in the film are analogous to water.
