  • Tutorial showing how to install a seal spring (garter spring) on an LG washing machine door, although this works for other front-load washing machines as well, such as Samsung. Inner seal installation details can be found in my other video: • Washing Machine Door S...
A Washing Machine Spring Expansion Tool is necessary for this job. I got mine from Amazon for about $13 (I used this one, but note it might not work for Bosch washers: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07.... The seal for the washing machine is attached in 3 locations: outer spring (demonstrated in this video), inner spring (not visible, but is similar to the outer spring), and the drain connection (shown in this video).
The exact washing machine in the video is an LG WM3400CW.

Very elegant tool if you do such work every day. If it's only once a decade there are solutions with simple pliers and a friend lending you another pair of hands for ring stabilization.

True, an extra pair of hands could do the trick too!

As suggested, I purchased the very tool shown here from Amazon (for $11). It did not work on my Bosch washer, for two reasons:
    1) the tool's prong is too thick to fit in the loop on the end of the spring. Had to improvise.
    2) even after improvising, the tool prong did not spread far enough (only 4") to permit the wire to go completely around the door seal.
This tool is going back to Amazon tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that the tool didn't work for your washer. Thank you for letting me know - I will add a note in the description that this tool does not work on Bosch washers.

How do you install the one you can't see?

Hi, I have since made a video showing the full process, that one you can't see is shown there: ua-cam.com/video/djTRxvsCPtk/v-deo.html

How can we see the second spring

Unfortunately, it's not really visible from the front. I'm thinking of doing a longer video that would include more detail in the future and I'll try my best to get it.
UPDATE: I just posted a new, more detailed video which includes the second spring: ua-cam.com/video/djTRxvsCPtk/v-deo.html

I came here to see how you install the inner clamp (the REALLY HARD ONE), but you skipped recording it and showed us how to install the easy one.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't remember the exact reason I didn't film the inner one, but I think I might have had the top of the machine already open and just went through there. If that inner spring is of interest I will try to do another video sometime that shows it.

@@FASTmaster789 Thanks for the reply. It’s been two days and I still can’t get that thing on. The spring tension is enormous (plus the limited room to work with it). I’m afraid I may have to remove the front panel, if the special pliers I ordered won’t help.

Sorry to hear that. I'd try taking off the top of the washing machine (should just be two screws in the back). Then I think there was a weight (for antivibration I would guess) that needed to be removed (4 hex head screws if I remember) to allow for access to the inner spring from the top. Then hopefully you can get to it from a better angle. I also remember (this is before I got the special pliers), tying one side of the spring with a piece of chicken wire to a crossmember within the washing machine, then using regular needle-nose pliers to pull the other side of the spring over the hook.@@ikaros3

Great! I ended up buying and using the special pliers and it took about 15 minutes to get it on.
