It was also sporadic in the sense that only certain parts, but still a large amount, of the Persian Empire had slaves (based on records) whilst other parts did not.

They had far more than any other Greek city-state, or obviously the Persians (who as a whole didn't practice slavery on a national level - that is a fact). Because according to Spartans, dying in battle was one of the greatest honors. That logic still stands today. To give your life for something greater by which you will be remembered by.
The reason the battles of Thermopylae and the battle of Artemisium are so popular even today is because the Greeks were so out numbered and out gunned that victory was all but impossible, and the only reason the greeks won was because of strategy and the love for their land. America hasn't been truly victorious since ww2, much smaller enemies have embarrassed them time and time again. Thats the exact opposite of the greeks and spartans.
The thing is, the country doesn't choose its wars, the government does. And,sadly, most of its wars are for monetary gain or expantion, not for the protection of the country itself.
The world will know that free men stood against a tyrant, that few stood against many, and before this battle was over, even a god-king can bleed. ~Leonidas
That's right, he did say freedom. Freedom from foreign invasion. Freedom from forced multicultural globalism. Freedom to live their own way in their own lands.
The persians, both in movie and reality, had no intention of integrating into the Brutish and undemocratic society of the Spartans. The Spartans were weak, and the weak are to be dominated. This has been done by almost every single empire on earth. It is good to reject facts and twist history to fit your world of fantasy, but only when kept within that delusional mind of yours.
@@zarifsafwanhoque4127 um you too are rejecting facts, the Persian empire was created because their way of life was about a cycle of peace and harmony. Their Empire was created to unite the world and bring peace to all as was their philosophy. The Persians wanted to integrate Greece but the Greeks misunderstood and attacked the Persians instead
WHY do people always associate slavery with America? it wasn't a strange thing, Sparta and America wasn't the only one's who had slaves, other Greeks had slaves, just didn't generally enslave fellow Greeks like the Spartans had done to the Mycenaean's. Rome had a unfathomable amount of slaves.

People will talk about this movie for 2,000 years because of the flawless script and people will speak of King Leonidas and his sons until the sun swallows up the earth
Imagine being the last adult spartan male left back home after the 300 had been slain..you wake up the next day with 100 females at your door with a message..."Sparta needs sons, are you ready to feed us your SPARTAN seed?"
This is Ancient Greek wisdom that still lives on through the generations to this very day! He calls his soldiers children and protects them like a father and leads the battle. I love my ancestors and I still speak Greek today the language of my parents and ancestors as a sign of respect to them. I also speak English and educated in English. So I’m bilingual.
Greeks still face the same enemies 2500 years later. We were born to fight to defend freedom, but we are proud and happy to.have this role in the world. Freedom is everything, great movie, captures this essence of hellenism
The difference between men who are willing to at least fight for their people's future and the men who are willing to die for their people's future. If those you love are not worth dying for you to you then you truly do not care for them. No greater love hath a man than that of laying down his own life for them. While is isn't exactly historical the movie does a good job of displaying the willful courage of giving your life to defend that which is dear to you. These Spartans will be remembered for all of human history and their dedication to their people and families should be something to emulate.
Christians get ready! Our Lord and Mighty Savior Jesus Christ wants us to have this same intensity, courage and unending FAITH/TRUST in Him as we face these perilous times! GOD Bless
The moment Leonidas yells at Darxos' face "well, that's an easy choice for us, ARCADIAN"... The way he says the word "Arcadian " includes so much disdain that becomes more insulting than any other word i could ever imagine
Funny thing is.. dying is only a matter of time. The opportunity to die in glory is an opportunity given by God. An honor to die for what you believe & protecting your country/ family is actually a gift . The alternatives are many & old age may be a curse more than a blessing. It would be an honor to embrace glory for all the right reasons as so many have. It’s a far better option than wasting away.
Leonidas: "A new age is upon us. An age of freedom. And all will know that 300 Spartans gave their lives to defend it." Spartans: "Ah-ogh! Ah-ogh! Ah-ogh!" Helots: "Freedom? No shit? This is great news! I can't wait...I'm going open my own pottery shop, have the kids plow the fields near our house, an-" Leonidas: "I didn't mean you! No freedom for you!!!" Helots: "Aww shit!"
This movie is so hard. If not totally historically accurate, I like to think the Spartans themselves would have approved of it. Stoic sacrifice and unyielding bravery to the last- it really honors the legend of the 300
This movie is very underrated as far as accuracy. Yes it’s fantasy but some of the little things are on point. “Hardly, it’s just an EYE” great use of laconic humor.
I will give my last breath for freedom. Even if it means I never get to see my son again. Maybe it will show him the true meaning of protecting and preserving this way of life

In reality when Leónidas found out that he was out flanked he sent the rest of the Greek army home to avoid unnecessary casualties. He had to be careful because sending a mass of troops away would have tipped off the Persians on the thin Greek force.
Just imagine; if reincarnation is real, then somewhere in the world there are 300 people who one day, when people are able to fully remember their past lives, can say "I was there on that day and I was one of them..." Goddam, I am so jealous!
Spartans, prepare for glory. Spartans never retreat, Spartans never surrender. That is Spartan law. By Spartan law we shall stand and die and fight. A new age has begun an age of Freedom. Tonight we will have been dining in hell.

But you're eager to die for that government? Fighting people who are for the most part defending their homeland from invaders.
The greatest story ever told
His acting seemed so real & emotional like he was a reincarnation of the real Leonidas himself
"We Will Stand And Fight'
"AND DIE"
👍🏿👍🏿
i really think no one else could have pulled off leonidas better than gerard butler, his voice and body is perfect
This is one of my favorite movies motivation speech.
What about freedom to live in whatever country you want?
fuck no.
Zarif Safwan Hoque What do you expect from a racist guy..
@@zarifsafwanhoque4127 um you too are rejecting facts, the Persian empire was created because their way of life was about a cycle of peace and harmony. Their Empire was created to unite the world and bring peace to all as was their philosophy. They wanted to integrate the Greeks into their Empire to spread the word but the Greeks were culturally different and views the Persian emissaries as threatening causing the Persian to believe the Greeks were intentionally against them and therefore against peace and harmony. The Persians wanted to integrate Greece but the Greeks misunderstood and attacked the Persians instead
give the spartans swords, you got an army,
give the spartans guns.....
You get sniped from across the map
You got the military
"Glory ??... Have you gone mad?" Gets me everytime 🤣🤣🤣 Leonidas stood for his 💪🏿 I was 5 when this came out I'm 19 now wow
Yes the Spartans had slaves when they fought for their freedom. Do you know who else had slaves when they fought a war for their freedom? America
Oh yeah, I suppose 600,000 Americans DIDN'T die in 4 years to abolish slavery.
***** no many died too keep it in place
WHY do people always associate slavery with America? it wasn't a strange thing, Sparta and America wasn't the only one's who had slaves, other Greeks had slaves, just didn't generally enslave fellow Greeks like the Spartans had done to the Mycenaean's. Rome had a unfathomable amount of slaves.
Lol seems about right for any powerful country. Realistically it happens all the time, British Empire, Roman Empire, Mongol Empire, etc. The world is not a peaceful place. Anyways im done since i feel like i have just fallen into a troll trap, gg.
Taj B If you truly now why the persians wars were fought and what was the concept of freedoom for the ancient greeks and the persians you will be seriously surprised. At that time the persian empire was much more modern style rights anf duties that most of the world, despite wha tmany will think
Gerard Butlers intensity is something to behold. He was definitely born to play King Leonidas.
And that is why still to this day we consider Spartans to be one of the most complete warriors of history..
People will talk about this movie for 2,000 years because of the flawless script and people will speak of King Leonidas and his sons until the sun swallows up the earth
this really is a truely inspirational speech
"It's just an eye god thought fit too grace me with two" greatest line ever
*a spare
saw* fit
Imagine being the last adult spartan male left back home after the 300 had been slain..you wake up the next day with 100 females at your door with a message..."Sparta needs sons, are you ready to feed us your SPARTAN seed?"
Scream " *THIS!! IS!! SPARTA!!* " on climax
goldenapple saga no retreat no surrender.
VERY UNDERRATED COMMENT.
@@goldenapplesaga5446 😂😂
Prepare for glory!!
Chilling! Every time I hear it… Would have loved to be one of the brave 300 hundred…
Remember them for courage, bravery and sacrifice 😢
this movie was the source of my confidence and strength. the moves, the speeches
THATS THE FIGHTING SPIRIT THE I LOVE !!HUGE LIKE TO THE 300
This is Ancient Greek wisdom that still lives on through the generations to this very day! He calls his soldiers children and protects them like a father and leads the battle. I love my ancestors and I still speak Greek today the language of my parents and ancestors as a sign of respect to them. I also speak English and educated in English. So I’m bilingual.
This has to be the greatest speech of all time.
Greeks still face the same enemies 2500 years later. We were born to fight to defend freedom, but we are proud and happy to.have this role in the world. Freedom is everything, great movie, captures this essence of hellenism
When I was reading Gates of Fire, every chapter with Leonidas I read in this guys voice mannerisms, it matched perfectly.
GOD Bless
AMEN ‼️‼️‼️‼️
The moment Leonidas yells at Darxos' face "well, that's an easy choice for us, ARCADIAN"...
The way he says the word "Arcadian " includes so much disdain that becomes more insulting than any other word i could ever imagine
T

“ and die “ 😂 the way he says it with conviction I love it Leonidas is such a badass totally agree with him here
Funny thing is.. dying is only a matter of time.
"All Will Know that 300 Gave Their Last Breath to Defend It"...."especially my daughter Myrrine"
What really makes Gerrard Butler perfect for this role, was the baritone sound of his voice.
Every time I watch this scene, the same question comes to mind. "Would i stay?"
Dats a easy choice for us Arcadian !
nothing else even crossed his mind...... it is inprinted in his brain. radicalized since birth. So epic!
He's insane! Too many years living in that Opera House and he's finally snapped!
“And each among them search his own soul….. and while youre at it, search your own” damn thats hard
Leonidas: "A new age is upon us. An age of freedom. And all will know that 300 Spartans gave their lives to defend it."
Spartans: "Ah-ogh! Ah-ogh! Ah-ogh!"
Helots: "Freedom? No shit? This is great news! I can't wait...I'm going open my own pottery shop, have the kids plow the fields near our house, an-"
Leonidas: "I didn't mean you! No freedom for you!!!"
Helots: "Aww shit!"
This movie is so hard. If not totally historically accurate, I like to think the Spartans themselves would have approved of it. Stoic sacrifice and unyielding bravery to the last- it really honors the legend of the 300
When you believe in something bigger than your self this how you think, this how you fight.
This movie is very underrated as far as accuracy. Yes it’s fantasy but some of the little things are on point. “Hardly, it’s just an EYE” great use of laconic humor.
The Greek law, better free man and dead than alive and slave.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time
Arcadian: Glory? Have you gone mad?
Leonidas: Get out of my face...
I will give my last breath for freedom. Even if it means I never get to see my son again. Maybe it will show him the true meaning of protecting and preserving this way of life
300 literally made me go through puberty at 8 years old.
Damn.....
🤣🤣
Fitting for this year, 2020. Never take a knee, In the face of certain death, "we will never surrender, never retreat", There is a new age, an age of Freedom and all will know that 300 gave their last breath to defend it! "Prepare For Glory!"
In reality when Leónidas found out that he was out flanked he sent the rest of the Greek army home to avoid unnecessary casualties. He had to be careful because sending a mass of troops away would have tipped off the Persians on the thin Greek force.
“We will stand and fight!!.....and die”
Imagine the sight of 10 thousand Sparts worriers
Just imagine; if reincarnation is real, then somewhere in the world there are 300 people who one day, when people are able to fully remember their past lives, can say "I was there on that day and I was one of them..." Goddam, I am so jealous!
Love those words absolutely legendary!!!!💪
Spartans never retreat!!! Spartans never surrender!!!! Spartans ready your breakfast and eat hearty for tonight we dine in Hell!!!!
Over two thousand years, we are still talking about them ... those cowards who abandoned the Spartans.
Guess he was right, they were remembered
Ofc i am right
Spartans, prepare for glory. Spartans never retreat, Spartans never surrender. That is Spartan law. By Spartan law we shall stand and die and fight.
A new age has begun an age of Freedom. Tonight we will have been dining in hell.
“Duck sauce, calm yourself”
I’ve always loved how he calls his troops “children”.
As if to say each of those men were being treated like his own.
I just realized the Marines are a lot like the Spartans, "Never surrender. Never retreat." Also their battle cry, "Hoowah," against, "Ha-oo, ha-oo." Anyone agree?
🙄
the darkest night
full of doubt
even spartans are just humans with emotions
but a true leader must remain persevering
while all have given up.
a dealer of hope.
The battle is over when I SAY it is over!
Fcking badass
