The 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy's" were Designed in the 1930's with the Idea to Haul up to about 5 Miles Worth of Freight to the Ports from the Factories of America during World War Two. However, at that time the Couplers weren't strong Enough to Pull that much Weight so come the Second World War the Big Boy's were basically used as Shunters. 24 Engines were Built, 18 are Preserved with UP 4014 being the Only Engine that's restored to Running Condition with her own Line.
Only 8 BIG BOY Locomotive 🚂 are saved in the USA 🇺🇸!! Here in Green Bay, Wisconsin, U.S.A., B.B. 4017 is at the NATIONAL RAILROAD MUSEUM since July 4, 1961 during this young museum."GRAND OPENING in 1961". It amazes me that the builder of such a big and complex model does not know (or maybe he just said the wrong figure) the correct scale of the model. He said the model was built in 1:15 scale. While in reality, since the Big Boy is 40.47m long, and this model is around 3m log, so the scale is 1:13.5. One of the most impressive creations I have ever seen! Well done, builder!
Not if you measure different characteristics. It all depends on what you are measuring.... length, mass, power, volume, pulling power...? Big Boy is always in the top five, but again, depends on the criteria.
