I used to work for Spin Master's customer service department and was the "resident Redakai expert" where I served on the front-lines of the great Redakai wars of the early 2010s. On one side of the battle were reasonable consumers with fair expectations and on the other side? One of the most ill-conceived, cash-grabbing pieces of shit gaming product the word has ever known. Usually wars have winners and losers, but not this time. No. Everybody lost. When Redakai was finally dead, the world was worse for having knowing it. Great video. Brings back memories of 'Nam.
10 years... 10 years since this video premiered, and it still holds up as one of the best reviews of a bad card game/TV show I've ever seen. Redakai really is a piss-poor franchise, isn't it? And it's good that Spinmaster have bought back Bakugan in the years following, because the more they distance themselves, the better.
@@averageparasenjoyer Shame for that reason, it makes it completely impossible to get one at a reasonable price. Those $30 Duel Discs now go for hundreds.
Ages ago I emailed SM and they denied the existence of the Kairu Cube. They also denied existence of Lokar's Shadow, Platinum Alliance and the Red/Green decks on the Redakai website. They went trigger happy on prices with this game.
So in 2011 Spin master decided to Make a TCG, but instead of making nice with people that handle TCG things, looking into the TCG market or tother things you need to do to make a TCG work, they decided to market said TCG like a toy line, overprice everything and fail to do the minimum required for making, distributing and maintaining a TCG. Then 8 years later in 2019, They bring bakugan back with a TCG, an actual Good TCG (with some problems,) But instead of making nice with those that handle TCG things, like distribution, Looking into the TCG market and actually promote and support said TCG, they decided to market it as a toy line and fail to do the minimum required to Distribute, and maintain a TCG and TCG community. This company really learns next to nothing from their mistakes.....
I was at gencon when the game came out; I was about 10. I bought the championship tin with the little money I’d saved up from my birthday and chores to take with me. I’m still mad about it lol.
Anyone who wants to know what happened with series 3 of the trading cards, I've acquired packs and will be updating the redapedia wikia shortly. Spin Master ceased to produce cards for the UK, US and France at MetaCharged. However, during coronavirus, it seems that Combine & Conquer boosters have started to surface on Italian ebay. I bought 50 blisters and 4 X-Reader sets so I should get 80% of the set. The third pack art is Gold Bruticon. I think this pack was themed around the Battacor and Ekayon as Drudger, Spykor and Scorpirion monsters all get new versions. On the account BBARevolution5, I commented below that Spin Master denied knowing that these Combine & Conquer cards existed. Now that I have physical proof that they do, I emailed them again. This time, they said "we did have a thing with Redakai in 2011 but those products are no longer in our database". I'm going to reach out to some of the game developers on LinkedIn to see if any of them can provide me with the checklist for Combine & Conquer. Duel Spectrum, Lokar's Shadow and Platinum Alliance don't seem to have ever been printed. However, the game's artists have made public some of the artwork for monsters from Season 2 like Darkroot and Hydrax.
@@bobateacafe5792 Dead but by me buying in these packs, it lets whoever is curious about what would have happened to the game if the initial release wasn't so shitty see what kinds of mechanics got added in series 3. So far, I get the feeling that they wanted this pack to be closely linked with the digital comics.
Teens and adults are the bread-and-butter of organized play, which any card game needs in order to be successful. Yu-Gi-Oh also lists itself as "6+", yet tons of adults play it.
That junk is still on clearance at my local Walmart and that stuff came out what 2010 2011 and in just 3-4 months it will be 2016 surprised they haven't tried to give it away yet
Before Dallas, Baku-con had LOADS of blatant cheating that wasn't stopped without a huge revolt, and the finals also had bad rulings everywhere and a strange layout for the finals. Gen-Con's Redakai tournament also had lots of bad calls which caused at least one avid fan to quit on the spot and start trying to hock his cards right there (He later succeeded with Ebay).
Hi! I know I'm late but thanks for reviewing and discussing this game! A few questions about the video: What was Baku-Con and why was it such a disaster? And what does Gannon-Banned mean?
It's not just that. They went around and deleted a lot of videos with Redakai cartoon content in them. Like episodes, previews and other little videos. The full episodes I can understand but not videos like this. Apparently they have been doing that with some of their other shows too.
kohdok vanguard packs only have 5 cards per pack it's the way things are done over in japan in vanguard's case we're getting direct from the distributer translations and the price mark ups are from the stores
If you're who I think you are, haven't I already sent you a bunch of stuff? I'll explain my reasons in part 2, but I'll actually be keeping a lot of this stuff.
If you had to give the series (toy-line and show) as a whole a rating, and I mean an honest rating that isn't an exaggerated number, what would it be out of 10?
Well, I'd be giving away the Championship Husk (Tin with nothing in it), and more of my leftover cards. I'd also ditch the Gold Metanoid and the Harrier figure (minus the sword), but since I actually paid for those, I'd be selling them. I don't believe in selling things I get for free beyond S&H, not even that if I'm given them for the purpose of review (In this case, I got them for going to events and being nice to the ones presenting)
I dont think it’s fair to compare the price to star wars merchandise Star Wars is the most popular film series ever so they can definitely afford the materials to make the cards if they are expensive and can sell at a low price because they know people will buy there products and easily make back the money they spent making them when compared to a new card game that came out of no where
No, not really. While Star Wars will guarantee a higher sales rate, the makers of the product had to pay a licensing fee, and because of Star Wars level of brand recognition, that licensing fee will be much higher than other franchises licensing fees. And to add too that, the rights holders for Star Wars could have also added a clause where they receive a percent of all profits earned.
omg u don't know how long i've been wating for you to do this!!! i have redakai as much as u do, im so happy to see it in clearance at target btw just wondering what is ur favorite monsuno so far?
Ah thank you Kohdok my friends and I really need to play this awful game. Also their definition of "portable" was "Can you fit it in the back of a pick-up truck?" If yes then it is portable."
I actually like this for most of the reasons you hate it. Ignoring toys, DVD, cartoon, and sticking with the fast simple play version of the game this is fun. Luckily, on clearance it is fun cheap now that it is on clearance. I wouldn't have paid full price. I would probably hate it at full price. Some comic shops somewhere should start putting together classic throwback nights featuring this game, but since they don't sell it it probably won't happen.

What do you consider some of the worst/most hated toys you've ever reviewed?
Although it is obscured by the head piece,it is weird to see Kodok with hair. Like I recently got into this channel via the 7 Deadly Sins of TCGs.
I had a nightmare the other day that spin master was rebooting redakai
I wish
Well if dreams can come through let's hope it's not the same as nightmares
One of the best kohdok videos ever
I found a hole clearence rack all with redakai booster packs for 0.50 cents at a Walmart one time
for $0.15 at my local kroger XD

my brain was half-tuned out when i realized i clicked on a redakai video
only half tuned out because it being a kohdok video i still wanted to watch
found a championship set at locals for 4 dollars, they had just bought a whole bunch of redakai stuff, which i found weird
