    In this video, I am checking over my AquaTec Ottawa Pro, and sharing my out-of-the-box opinion on the quality of this kayak and the supplied accessories. I own several kayaks, including a full dropstitch three chambered 2 person Bluewave Glider, and a single person Story Ranger which is a hybrid kayak. The Ottawa Pro is my first sit on top clamshell style kayak.

    This extendable kayak paddle been my trusty paddle since 2017. This can extend to 240cm which was perfect for my earlier inflatable crafts due to their width and larger side chambers. At 1100 g this paddle is a bit heavy for touring, however it is perfect for recreational paddling.

    Almost looks like a THICK stand on top , sharper nosed paddleboard with a shallow cockpit cut into it :) Will be interested to see how it handles wind waves, lake swells and stability with all your gear stowed on the decks.

      Essential it is a SUP with an additional chamber on top of it. I am prodomiantly a flatwater kayaker, rivers and canals. I believe that this craft would be very stable fully loaded in these settings. Personally I would not take this kayak out on large lakes or the sea loaded up or in anything other than the calmest conditions.

    Good informative video, thanks.
    I have recently purchased the Sandbanks equivalent, which is very similar. Again, the seat isn't up to much, so I went with the Tahe beach yak soft seat. There's enough space in the base to add a little layer of sponge, which is enough to make it a very comfortable seat. I'm a little short in the leg, so I can't rest my feet on the cockpit, with the seat in its rearmost position. I tried most things but ended up using a solid foam seat cushion ( bought for another application) wedged underneathe the top deck. You have to inflate the top deck after positioning the foam, but it has proved a good little mod. I can get you the details of the cushion if it's something you need.
    You're also going to find that these are not the easiest kayaks to drain
    Water seems to get trapped, and when you think you have got it all out, some more appears. All of this can be forgiven because you will enjoy using this type of Kayak, it appears to be a little tippy at first but does have good stability. Good glide, too.😮

      Hi Lawrence, glad you enjoyed the video!
      I am just back from my first outing in the Ottawa Pro. The Aqua Marina seat worked out just fine. 10 miles and no numb bum or sore back. The seat hugged me and felt very supportive, definitely a good purchase. My set-up with the seat positioned 12 cm forward also worked well, and my feet reach the front cockpit with a slight knee bend. Tahe beach yak soft seat, nice seat you have bought there, a few bob, but for longer distances, you should not compromise on comfort. I did not find this kayak tippy at all, in fact it is very stable compared to my Bluewave Glider. I would even say it is more stable than my Story Ranger 1 hybrid kayak.
      Just transferring my footage from my outing now, so two videos will follow over the next week.
      ATB, Dave.

      @DavidWilsonOutandAbout I' m glad it worked ok so good for you, David. For me the Sandbank is a little tippy but overall still quite stable. Having said that, my previous boats were a 34 inch wide paddleboard and a Spinera SK, which is ultra stable but a little slow. I'm just going through your uploads, and they do look informative. Look forward to seeing your latest trip.

      @@lawrencecrowe1214 I was rocking the Ottawa from side to side quite hard and was really impressed with the stability. I also deliberately stayed side-on to the wash from a few speeding motor launches just to test it out, and it rode them perfectly. Surprisingly, the Ottawa also tracked the same with the e-fin as it did with the supplied skeg. Chuffed with this purchase, I will now be selling my Bluewave Glider, but I will keep my Story Ranger for occasional use. Hope you enjoy the viewing, it is all kayaking at the moment due to knee issues, hope to get back out hiking and camping at some point!. Also, thanks for subscribing to my channel, it is much appreciated.
      Dave.

    Nice little overview there sir. They're a cracking craft. You might like my upload tomorrow(Sunday) comparing the Ottawa with the Sandbanks Optimal 😁

      Hi Karl, cheers, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I am looking forward to watching your comparison video. My guess is that the Ottawa is slightly more stable due to the flatter bottom, other than that I do not imagine there is much difference. I had a great trip out reviewing the Ottawa last week, also really enjoyed using it with my electric fin as well.
      Happy paddling, fella. Thanks for calling by

      @@DavidWilsonOutandAbout I'm really keen to get one of those motors 👍😁

      @DavidWilsonOutandAbout  Рік тому +1

      @@MoreThanJustaCleaner The e-fin is a bit of a toy, although necessary for me on the return journeys on some of my longer paddles due to my knee problems at the moment. Like you, I can also suffer from a lot of discomfort (pain) in my lower back if I overdo things. It is swings and roundabouts with the e-fin, a pain to disconnect and carry if you have to portage several times, and useless if motoring through pee soap or weed. It is also confusing as to whether you need a power boat licence for inland waterways, I even spoke with an EA lockkeeper and got no definitive answer. The jury is still out on the e-fin, time will tell on this piece of kit. 🙂

      @@DavidWilsonOutandAbout I've already ordered one. I'd been eyeing up the E-propulsion Vaquita kit but it's been out of stock for yonks. Plus the efin is about £250 cheaper. I've got some fun video ideas planned.
      Looking at the setup it looks like the input/output sockets are separate? I know you won't have tried this but if the efin supports pass-thru charging, then that opens up a whole different world of journey lengths.

    • @DavidWilsonOutandAbout
      @DavidWilsonOutandAbout  Рік тому +1

      @@MoreThanJustaCleaner I partly went for this one because of the motor/fin shape, I cannot see any IK tracking very well when paddling with the E-propulsion Vaquita motor attached. The Ottawa Pro tracked very well with the Hiqmar fin fitted, and no noticeable drag. My Ranger One had more drag and left and right yaw, you certainly knew the fin is attached. I may fit a second skeg to my Ranger to alleviate the tracking issue, not a lot I can do about the drag on that craft other than position the battery box further forward! 😉. Personally, I am not too worried about extending the range of the battery pack, however, I may fit a Battery Capacity Indicator.

    I just started watching this after you commented on one of my videos, great review and video. I actually didnt realise the keel of the Ottowa was so flat with the bevelled sides. The Sandbanks Optimal has a wide v-shaped keel so I would be interested to know if its more stable. Maybe we should do a collab and compare 😀

    • @DavidWilsonOutandAbout
      @DavidWilsonOutandAbout  Рік тому

      Thanks for calling by and watching my video, I have enjoyed watching a few of your kayaking videos as well. I thought the Optimal was more V-shaped, but the design is so similar that I dismissed that thought. The Ottawa Pro is extremely stable, I was rocking it vigorously, and I could not get anywhere near tipping it. What also impressed me with it was how well it rode out the wash from several speeding boy racers in motor launches. Collaboration sounds like a great idea, if you have got any spare time later in the summer (once the kids are back in school, maybe we can get out for a nice paddle!.
      All the best,
      Dave.

      Hi Brian, glad you enjoyed my first impressions, first look at the Ottawa Pro video. The power station is the Flylinkteach CK100. I have been using this power station for inflating my kayaks and air tent for about two years. I have also used it to run and recharge all my cameras and other electrical items while out camping. I am not sure if this model is still available, however, I did a review video on this product which can be viewed here, ua-cam.com/video/bcmTtMNAPHY/v-deo.html
