Great job showing a very systematic approach to initial checkout. That is quite the massive transformer for a preamp but maybe they were powering something else with the output pins.

Yes, it's pretty big and the output is only driven by one EL84. So you could be right that they have used it to power something else.
Or, since it is custom-made, it may also be possible that they have used what was already available in their workshop.
