Peperomia House Tour - Vlog 001

  • I'm trying something new on the "Plant One On Me" channel-more informal, off-the-cuff vlogs, per people's suggestions in the survey I sent out in 2018!
This one, which we shot yesterday, hopefully fills some of the gaps to the last two Pep episodes (Ep 96 + 97) and shows where I'm growing Peperomia in my home. I ended up editing out quite a few Peps because the video was getting too long; and I think the points I wanted to convey (e.g., what light / conditions they are growing in) come across without overdoing the tour. I REALLY want to keep these shorter (although I totally failed with this one), but I hope you enjoy a little 'day-in-the-life' and pick up some good Pep tips along the way.

And I get a lot of my Peperomia over at bit.ly/2A85P5W

My reaction involved Crown & Ginger! Later, I realized the "mealy bug" was ACTUALLY a tiny piece of paper towel from absorbing water on a hoya leaf; but, man, what a remedy! Lol!

Thank you for putting out such great content. Your videos are what sparked my plant lust which lucky for me it turned into love and a green, lush home. I too, like a previous commenter, tend to bunch my plants near windows out of fear they will starve. When I see your home in your videos I remember to relax and listen to the plants. I believe I may have a few species in my collection that you don't seem to have, let me know if you'd be interested in cuttings and I'd be happy to send a few. I have Peperomia a macrostachya and a huge Peperomia trinervula. Thanks again for all the great info.

I have several health problems. One of them, fibromyalgia, causes loss of sleep. It's 3:09 a.m. here in Charlotte, NC & I just finished watching this wonderful video. Thank you so, so much Summer! Even tho I sometimes have to write notes to remember stuff, this was very relaxing to me. Do I think I'll be able to go to sleep now? I don't think so; but, at least I'm no longer wound up as tight as a banjo string! Your collection is mind-boggling! Seriously! Two of your last 3 videos have added sooo many more plants to my Plant Wishlist! Why only 2 of them? SOMEHOW, I got confused & didn't watch the middle one yet! By the time I realized what I had done, I was already involved with this one & there was no way that I was going to turn back! My daughter gifted me with the 'Rana Verde' for my birthday in November. It's STILL growing like crazy and I LOVE this plant! What variety of Aglaomena is that beside your 'Rana Verde' under that ficus? It's gorgeous! The lady who I bought my first 'Rosso' from had a lot of other peperomias and she told me that Peperomia 'Ruby Cascade' is the devil! Lol! She said that she can grow almost everything else that she's ever tried; but, 'Ruby Cascade' hates her! Too funny! That last Peperomia scandens on the top left side of a case at the SW facing window is absolutely loving it's life! A truly happy plant!
It's been a very long time since I ate dinner; so, I'm going to save your 2nd video in this series and go find something to eat! Thank you Summer for sharing your plants, home & knowledge with your followers/subscribers. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for a video or series of them devoted to hoyas, my favorite plants! Take care & Plant Love! 🌾💜

Your extemporaneous discussion of light requirements was quite interesting. When growing plants indoors there is almost always a compromise made between the ideal and the available cultural conditions. Most plants, even some of the finickiest, will do ok even when one or two of their preferred environmental factors are minimally provided. By example; at one time I grew a number of different types of orchids in a ‘sun room ‘. The light was great, the humidity good but the temperatures, day and night, were well below those recommended. All of the plants did well and flowered nicely. Some grew slower than they would under ideal temperatures but they grew properly.

Summer... I have been on the hunt for a peperomia and a monstera plus a pink lady, like crazy!!! The peperomia hoffmannia looks so cool, the way it grows!! I swear, I end up getting so upset because I can never find these varieties here😆 the hardest part for me, is choosing which one I want to get because they are all amazing and unique! I've been a grower and collector for about 6 years now, and love the beauty mother nature has to offer us, right at the tips of our fingers! It's always such a pleasure to watch anything you post! Love your house set up too so much! I can't wait to set mine up similar, I am a crazy plant lady for sure! 😀 People always ask me, "are you ever going to stop buying and adding to what you have?", I said "no way!!". Hello Summer! Newly subscribed. I am a beginner but fell in love with peperomias. But because I am new I was wondering if you can do a video on describing the differences between peperomia verticillata red log, red Ecuador, maybe even rubella? Cause I’ve seen so many of them that look so identical and I don’t want to get the wrong one or at least label them correctly. It would be awesome for you to do a video on it. Maybe even another video for tetragona, puteolata, and quadrangularis, etc. since they kind of look similar as well. Would super appreciate at least considering the video idea! Thank you! I love your plants, especially the peperomias. ❤️

I hadn't heard of Peperomia's before & I had took a cutting from a hanging plant of my great Aunt's.....it's a Peperomia scandens!!! I didn't use a root hormone & it's grown in length but doesn't have 'new' growth yet.....?? I have it outside on our south facing porch... in San Antonio TX 😆😍😎😊

Peperomia pellucida is edible.. I loved it as a salad with sliced ginger, sprouts, and sauce made with rice flour concoction added with balsamic vinegar or lemons juice and tamari/ponzu sauce.

hey Sally! I volunteer at the chicken coop at the local Senior Citizen Service Center 3X a day-seven days a week! Kippee stays there part of the day too. We raised the funds for the coop partially through the local Plant Swaps held here. Some of the chickens are rescue chickens we picked up at Wild Bird Fund, which is the local rehabilitation center here. Here's the coop build-out if you're curious!: ua-cam.com/video/3XYJHiigsTY/v-deo.html

This format of video is a great idea, congrats! :) It raised a question I had for a long time: you have several plants living at the base of your Ficus Lyrata tree. I kindda wish to create some source of plant ecosystem for a while as well, and doing it under the fig tree appears to be a great idea. Which kind of plants would you recommend as the best fit for this purpose? I am giving it a 3-1- 3 fertilizer regularly and I'm afraid if I introduce other plants in there they will not react well to it. Thank you :)

This peperomia scandens variegata is really interesting:) Looks like a mix of ficus benjamina and a philodendron, very nice:) I want to thank you for the peperomia tour. I thought my peperomias are dying because they're not getting enough light at my attic apartment but after watching your video I guess I need to rethink my care routine :/ I have a nice large ficus, maybe I will pot the peperomias in together with the ficus like you did in one case and it will solve the watering/humidity issue. What do you think?
And also I really like that you gave the captions for your plants:)

Also, I can relate to the poor plants on the floor being kicked around. I have quite a few on my floor and I actually don't kick them. But when I have company, good luck.

Earth Boy Sun And Rain. I put a plant on the floor once. A big one. Then my cat decided his litter box was boring and he needed a new place to go... 😑
There are no more plants on the floor.

ok i am going back in time to watch this because I have been handed a whole of lot of peps and I have no idea how to care for them. So this was very useful. Thanks a lot. Can you also satisfy the inquiring mind on how to put together a terrarium pls, soil, plats and keeping it alive. Thanks so much Sumer. I am from Tropical sri lanka
