- Welcome to the October Garden Tour 2020! Northlawn Flower Farm is a 1/2 acre flower farm in zone 6b. I hope you enjoy this tour of our fall foliage and the cut flowers the remain. Happy gardening to all!

The Paw Paw tree is a host tree for the Zebra Swallowtail! They grow native here in Virginia where I live.

Hey Danielle...I grow the Clustered Bellflower (I didn't start it, it was already in my garden when I moved in). But mine are grown on the North side of my house in a garden that is only about 1 foot wide. It is also located right beside my hose reel so it does get lots of water. I think the clustered Bellflower might like tight spaces-I think it spreads threw runners so I think the tight space helps it. I am able to keep it in check because its between my house and the lawn that I cut. Hope this helps😄

Have you considered growing Proud Berry Coral Berry? If you have it, I missed it. I think you would love it. The foliage is rounded and gray green. In the fall it produces a pink berry all over the bush. I love mine and though I don't use it for cuttings (I have a hard time cutting my flowers because I love to see them in my garden), I believe they would be lovely in arrangements. My favorite dahlia this year was Clair Obscur. I love rose campion for architectural interest. I'm not sure if it would do well in floral arrangements but something to look into. It's a biannual I believe.
I really love the way the Coleus looks backed by the Burning Bush!! They play off each other really well, it looks like an intentional and smart decision to me!!

Thank you for being so detailed with the plant names. The Mexican Sage is beautiful and I will definitely be adding it to my garden. This past weekend I bought two Rose of Sharon bushes (White Chiffon and Sugar Tip)and hope that I can plant them before we get our first frost🙂 I think the sage will look beautiful in front of one of the bushes. BTW I love hearing about your grandmother’s plants and her connection to your garden.
I love your videos & I love to see how you integrate your flowers in your landscape rather than rows. Thank you as that’s what I want in my yard as Im starting to grow cut flowers for personal use & to give to family & friends rather than to sell. I want to add more peonies to my landscape & I plan to expand some of my current beds to incorporate cut flowers (annuals & perennials). Do you have ideas on what to complement my new peonies on the south side of my house where there are dwarf Korean lilacs that I will leave in the back of the border. All my beds have shrubs, weeping trees, perennials & some annuals. Again, Thank you for your ideas!

Danielle, thanks again for this tour through your wonderful garden! (And, yes, I´ve missed a September tour, thought it was a busy time for your stand.) If it is not too late (and the frost hit your garden), you should take coleus cuttings, put them in a glas with water until they root and you will get some amazing houseplants for the winter, then, come spring, you get more cuttings from your coleus for your garden. And you should definetively overwinter your gorgeous lantanas, they get bigger and bolder every year (they need a bit of light and little water) .With Nasturtiums I had the same problems last year(wrong colour),and in my zone they are invasive, I had a lot of fun on my knees this spring! And please, take in consideration a November/Winter garden tour with or without snow! Take good care of yourself and stay safe. Love from Germany ,Hanni.

@@BoPeepsBonnetsOfficial Into the home, frostfree, behind the gardendoor because they need light, every now and than a bit water, and have an eye on pests. They will loose their leafes. Mid May they come out on the deck, get a little haircut and a fertilizer, then you can watch them grow. Greenhouse would be pitch perfect, but I unfortunately do not own one. Good luck! Stay safe.

I just love your garden tours! I've been following you for a couple of months now and I gain so much knowledge from your content. Thank you for taking the time to put this info out there. I, too, have a small-ish space that I'm growing cut flowers and I love how you grow them in your landscape. It's stunning! Also, I grew the peach melba nasturtiums this year and mine were definitely peach colored, so that variety should be correct for a true peach color. Maybe an accidental wrong seed go placed in the wrong packaging.

@@BoPeepsBonnetsOfficial I got my seeds from Sow True Seed. I'm not sure if you've heard of them, but they're a small seed company in Asheville, NC (where I live). They have a website and I know they ship all over. I don't get all of my seeds from them, but it's a great company and I've never had any problems with seeds I've purchased from them.

Thank you for taking us on a walk through your fall garden Danielle! These are my favorite videos. I live in the country (zone 5 MI) but am slowing creating nice deep borders like you have around our main yard/house and you have motivated me to add in some shrubs and flower for cutting (rather than all in my raised beds). I only do this for fun but maybe one day I will try a farm stand for flowers. Wondering if you think 6-8 feet is a good depth to layer in plants and still be able to manage and get around them all for cutting, weeding, limiting disease, etc.? Keep up the great work- I'm so enjoying you!

Hi Angela! Lantana needs to be brought inside in your zone. Here is a helpful article -www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/lantana/overwintering-lantana-plants.htm You could also take lantana cuttings are propagate them if you prefer. Peonies do not need to be dug up. They are perennial. I hope that is helpful!

Hi I so love watching your videos I have learned tons from you. I do have a question regarding the seeds you put in. Do you leave them as you showed no matter the weather or do you cover with anything for colder weather ie leaves or cloth? This will be my first year planting from seed except for the test seeds I did this summer. Thank you
Hi Susan! Here in 6b I don't cover anything I showed you in the raised beds. I know Lisa (the author of Cool Flowers) does row cover some things. But I've never bothered - especially with the things that are very hardy in my zone.
Do cats get stung by bees? My cat seems to enjoy being among flowers too. 😊
I appreciate the really slow tour. There are a lot of plants though, that I don't know what they look like, & its hard to tell which one you're talking about sometimes... but overall, loved the video! Lots of Inspiration! I'm starting a cut-flower garden next year, & I plan to sow some things in my landscape, not putting everything in the designated cut flower garden!

Hi Debby! Sadly, it will not. I take cuttings and propagate each year. I believe its hardy in zone 8-10.

The garden still looks really good! I have things in containers on my front porch and window boxes that I need to purge, but they still are so pretty. I'm in NE Ohio 6a and really like to everything done by now. I put several hundred tulip bulbs in the ground this past week and I next need to do daffs. I have two large containers with tulips and daffs. My first time in containers. I don't know whether to winter over in the garage or on my front porch. Any suggestions from anyone on garage or porch. Thanks!

Hi there! I haven't tried it - have you? I've heard it's similar to a mango/banana flavor.
@@NorthlawnFlowerFarm I haven’t tried them. Apparently it takes 5 years for the tree to produce fruit so I’ll have to wait until 2025 I guess. You’re the first person I’ve seen who actually had one at the fruiting stage.

Hi Danielle, I am relatively new to your channel and I must say I greatly have enjoyed what you share along with your cheerful manner and lovely voice.
I garden in zone 5b and i have some questions. Do you happen to know what hardy annuals I can sow here in my zone now?
Also, the Mexica bush sage which you showed in this session, is that direct seeded? And lastly, will you share some seed companies which you find to be reputable and of course you have great germination with the seeds they offer. Thank you!! I hope you share some things as the fall progresses and in the winter too. Thank you again!
Hi Janie! Feverfew, foxglove, snapdragons, canterbury bells, sweet william, bupleurum, black eyed susan, and dropmore are hardy to zone 5. The only one of those I would direct sow outside is bupleurum and feverfew. The rest I would do as transplants. Unfortunately, it is most likely too late for transplants now for the fall in 5b. Have you had a frost yet? If you have 6 weeks left before your first frost you could give feverfew and bupleurum a go direct seeded. Otherwise I would wait until late winter/very early spring. I propagate the Mexican Bush sage by cuttings - it takes easily. Johnny's and Geo are my personal favorite for large quantities of seeds. I also buy alot from Rohrer's - mainly because they have a retail store I like to visit. I hope that is helpful!
