Helio Castroneves. 1975-2005. We will miss you, Helio, but the show must go on. So who drives the #3 team for Penske now? Well, as it turns out, Roger Penske was unable to find a new driver, so he contacts Joe Gibbs Racing for their driver, Tony Stewart, because of his experience in Indycar. Stewart agrees to drive the car, under the conditions that: -Penske changes the number from 3 to 20, out of respect, not just for Helio, but also for the other late racing driver, Dale Earnhardt. -Joe Gibbs Racing merges with Penske in NASCAR, using Chevrolet bodies (Wallace #2, Newman #12, Labonte #20) -Home Depot sponsors his ride. -Stewart obtains Helio’s previous paycheque. Roger Penske agrees to these conditions, thus Tony Stewart returns to full-time Indycar racing. He gets pole position in the Indy 500 three times, converting all of them (2008, 2011, 2014) into victories. He also wins the 2016 Indycar Series championship, which is also his last season, as he retires from racing effective 2017. I’m not entirely sure I’d be right if that were the case, but that’s the fun of alternate history: it’s whatever you make it out to be. Just wanted to channel my inner Griffdawg for a second.
Meanwhile in NASCAR, Carl Edwards wins the 2005 and 2011 Championships and retiring as a two time champ. Back in Indycar, the 2009 Indy 500 is won by Dan Wheldon. This would be his only Indy win (in this fictional video game universe).
Meanwhile in NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson wins the 2012 championship. (Also won 2006-2010) Why? Well, Rusty retired to years later in 2008, and Kurt took over until 2012. Where did Brad Keselowski go? Brad went to the number 5 GoDaddy chevy in 2011. Mark Martin retired at the same time as rusty. Who won 2014 considering Tony Stewart didn’t have his own team in NASCAR. It would be Jeff Gordon due to feedback from the fans to go back to the regular format. 2013 would be Harvick’s last season. Austin Dillion replaced him. Danica Patrick would never race full time. Kurt Busch would stay in the 2 car until 2018 going to the 1 car. He would be replaced by Ryan Blaney. Dodge would stay in NASCAR. Kasey Kahne would drive for RCR until 2020 driving the 27. Drivers in 2019. 1- Kurt Busch 2- Ryan Blaney 5- Brad Keselowski 6- Trevor Bayne (he would win 10 races between 2014-2018 2 in 2014, 5 in 2015, 1 in 2016, 1 in 2017, and 1 in 2018) 8- Dale Jr. (Part time for HMS) 9- Chase Elliot 12- Ryan Newman (He would be more successful winning 10 more races.) 13- Casey Mears 15- Clint Bowyer (Spingate did not happen) 16- Greg Biffle 17- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 20- Kyle Busch 21- AJ Allmedinger ( did not get suspended and Penske had no 22 so he went to 21 cause Trevor Bayne did not race until 2013.) 23- Joey Gase and Corey Lajoie 25- Landon Cassell 27- Kasey Kahne 29- Austin Dillion (respected the 3 for those deaths.) 31- Jeb Burton. (Replaces his father) 33- Ty Dillion 34- Micheal McDowell 36- Matt Tift 37- Chris Buescher 38- David Ragan 41- Kyle Larson 43- Darrel Wallace Jr. 47- Christopher Bell 48- Jimmie Johnson 51- Harrison Burton 55- Brian Vickers 56- Martin Truex Jr. 59- Ross Chastain 66- Mark Thompson 72- Cole Whitt 78- Reagan Smith 88- Alex Bowman 95- Matt Dibenitto (misspelled) 36-38 drivers.
Aric almirola would die in a 2002 Mike Harmon crash like wreck in 2017. Landon Cassel hit him when his car was going down then apron. NASCAR took a 1 month break and Cassel stopped racing for that year. Darrel Wallace Jr. would replace Almirola. Alex Bowman replaced Cassel.
I swear to god this is one of the greatest games I have ever played. I play it almost every weekend on my Xbox 360. It's so fun, especially in the off-season of Indycar. I do half and full length races. I love the mid-race saving feature--It makes the game feel a lot more fair. But I have won races from back to front, too, which is a great feeling since the AI in the game is pretty good (though they are always stuck in lower fuel mode it seems).
Best part of the game is feeling the splash of sparks coming from the back of the cars in the force feedback of the controller. Great touch. Being able to feel the bumps is also excellent.
This was a an excellent video that I enjoyed watching. You're knowledge and explanations totally add to the experience. I have subscribed to the channel and notifications
Too bad that there hasn't been any official Indycar game in more than 10 years, like F1 or NASCAR. I'm hoping Indycar will be implemented in a good way and it's possible to do custom championships (I believe Long Beach, Daytona, Texas and Indy are confirmed and Sonoma and the Glen were already in it). As an European, I enjoy Indycar racing. The most interesting thing I find is that oval tracks and 'normal' tracks (road courses and even street courses) are combined. The only downside to Indycar racing is that it is too American I think, despite the fact that many racers are not from the US. All the races are hosted in the US (Toronto being the exeption). In the season of this game there is Motegi of course, but why would it not expand to other parts of the world (I think Monza for example would be a great track for Indycar). For me, NASCAR could do the same, but I can see that being more an American sports, because most drivers are American and NASCAR drives on a certain type of track, that isn't really common in the rest of the world (especially in hosting great events) and the US has plenty of historic ovals. This has been my European-centric view on American racing, hope you liked the show. ;) p.s. please don't be offended
Jampetable Gaming you make some good points, but at the same time, (as an American/Canadian) I feel Indy is better where it's at, Europe and Asia get almost exclusive access to F1 and it's feeder series, (minus the 4 times F1 comes to this hemisphere). If Indy goes global again, there is no exclusive Top Tier open wheel series in America, which is a national championship, as opposed to a global/World championship, as F1 is billed. (granted I'm a very selfish person) I also hope Indy gets a licensed game again soon.
6 years ago Land you would think I would remember you actually doing more of these videos haha but hey 6 years is a long time. Cool this popped in my feed also. Love this game. There really is no need to ever go back to the first version of this game once this was released. Though is still fun to look for all changes. I wonder if it wasn’t released on PS2 in the states originally due to the fact the original maybe didn’t sell well perhaps? Like a blackout of a video game ha. I tell you what for what those graphics offered back then especially the game is still fun to me even in the world of sims etc. I mean heck we get to run an Indy 500!🤘🏎️🏁🇺🇸
Strange how the race is restarted just 1 lap after the pits opens. I don't remember this in this game. In my memories, the green was waved like 2 or 3 laps after the pits opens
I remember as a kid making it into the indy 500 race for a 50 lapper. I saw a codemasters car do a cartwheel into the crowd crazy times man crazy times.
Damn it! This is the X-Box-Version, which came out later than the PC and PS2-version and apparently it's the only version that features back-mirrors. It's not unplayable without and there's a button to look back but not having back-mirrors in the PC-version kinda sucks. I think Indy 500 The Simulation from 1989 had back-mirrors. And seeing how this is the newest IndyCar-Game available for PC this is kinda step-back. :\
these indycar games were great for their time, but damn did they really fuck up the AI. really the most ignorant and stupid racing AI i have ever run against lol

Well... I was adding on..
Again, I appreciate that you’re expanding my idea, but we could’ve stopped the tragedy with Helio.
6:11 looks exactly like the wreck in the main menu when you first start the game
so Helio confirmed dead in this In-Game universe, right?
RIP
Is that the huge flip wreck?
