    One of the things that makes Graham Norton so good at what he does is that he seems genuinely interested in what his guests have to say, and he also knows when to keep quiet and just let the guests do their thing.

    I think stars have such a good time on his show because they never just stick to what they are advertising - it gets mentioned, business done, and then we have a drink and a good visit with some funny friends; along with fun surprises and great stories he pulls out of them. Great research prep team too!

    Well here’s a story that I heard from Liverpool. A homeowner had been burgled so many times over a few months, he left a sign out front which read “ There’s nothing left to steal”. He got broke into again and they’d written on the sign
    “ Just checkin “

    Sitting with Jamie Dornan were also the British actress Sophie Okonedo, who was in “Hotel Rwanda” with Don Cheadle, and “The Secret Life Of Bees”, James Norton (“Happy Valley”) and Siobhán McSweeney, who starred in the sitcom “Derry Girls” set in Northern Ireland in the ‘90s alongside Nicola Coughlan (“Bridgerton”).

    The western Emily blunt is talking about doing in this clip is The English, which I cannot recommend enough it is SO GOOD. Not even for the channel, just in general if you have any remote interest in a western mini series, The English is a stunning piece of art, it’s brutal and poetic and tender and heartbreaking

      I have a flaming drink story too… my partner doesn’t drink but we once had a birthday dinner for him at a place where they brought him a flaming shot, and I was like ‘well since it’s here 😏’ and IMMEDIATELY knocked it over and lit the table on fire. It couldn’t have been more perfectly executed if we’d rehearsed it- the server set it down, I immediately poured it all over the table, and the server whipped a wet rag off his shoulder and smothered the flames. It happened so fast I was like “holy shit, you’re amazing!” And he said “yeah you’re not the first person to do that” and went and got me a not-lit-on-fire shot 😂

    OMG lol @ your comment about Dame Edna. the thing with Dame Edna is when she first came out- those of us that were old enough ALL had an Auntie who had those mannerisms, the hair and the glasses (not quite as large glasses) but Dame Edna was relatable back in the day so yes she had the Aussie accent for sure. Probably more NSW /Victoria granny type speak, but also back in the day we could pick which state a person grew up in because of the way they spoke (the accent) but also the words they used. one of the funniest stories I will never forget was a little kid that arrived in WA from Queensland, who got told off at school and a letter sent home because in Western Australia a school bag was often (at the time) a school 'case", where as in Queensland it was a 'port'. Her teacher was called "mrs Case" and the kid (about six) was calling her Mrs Port and every time she got told "no its Mrs case" she would reply "i'm from Queensland its a port".

    Since you seem to like British tv I'd like to recommend a show called Vicious, it's a British sitcom about and older gay couple played by Sirs Ian McKellen(Gandalf) and Derek Jacobias well as Frances de la Tour(Madame Maxine) and another actor you'll recognize from Game of Thrones. The entire show is on UA-cam, it didn't run for very long but I think you might enjoy it.

      @DavidvsFilm  16 днів тому

      Hey thank you so much, Adan! Yeah, Vicious has been mentioned to me a couple of times, though I don't remember hearing that it was all available on UA-cam or that Madame Maxine is in it! That's cool. I signed up for Brit Box, and there's some pretty decent stuff there, but UA-cam seems to be the only place that I can find certain specific older shows.

    Liverpool is a great city, well worth a visit if you ever come over
    Nick Mohammed is ‘the Ted Lasso guy’ he was on the most recent series of Taskmaster, the lady next to him is Tamsin Grieg who is in some fantastic sitcoms, Friday Night Dinner and Black Books (amongst others) both worth adding to your list!
    The lady next to Lewis Capaldi is Siobhan McSweeney who is most famously known for playing Sister Michael in Derry Girls, she is hilarious as that character, another brilliant sitcom to add to your list!

    The ones in the US seem to make it all about themselves and the slot format ain’t great either.
    Get all the guests nice and mellow on drink before the show,then put them all on the sofa and let them talk.

    I spent 5 years working in Liverpool as a telephone teller for a famous British bank (commuting by train from Salford.) We also did semi regular charity days (Walking dogs who were residents of an animal shelter, stockpiling supplies at a food bank, gardening at a retirement home, painting a bathroom at a drop in centre for homeless people) We also occasionally socialised in the city centre. Liverpool can be very rough, but it's people are also funny and charming. A local phrase is "Scouse not English" and the inhabitants seem to regard the USA as a near neighbour and perpetual rival Manchester as Mordor. A point in their favour: After the Hillsborough disaster scumrag "The Sun" fell over themselves to repeat the self serving lies that South Yorkshire Police were trying to spread, and (as it transpired) enthusiastically making up their own lies to blame the whole disaster on Liverpool fans. The editor of the Sun eventually made a weak apology (which he later recanted and said he was not sorry.) To this day it is hard to find any outlet that sells "The Sun" in all of Merseyside.

      I live fairly close to Liverpool and I think that’s fair it’s a lovely place lots of lovely people but like anywhere else it has its rough areas and is a city so is more prone to danger than some other places across the country. But yes the stereotype is being a bit rough I guess and people being sort of tough hard-man types. It is mainly I think in that it has a large working class population and the stereotypes that come with that. But I agree realistically it’s very friendly and people are very loyal. It just seems scarier from the outside especially if you’re a bit posh 😂The scouse accent also can be quite jarring if you’re not used to it. You’ll have come across a couple of people with it on Graham at some point. If you get a group of angry scousers yelling at you it’s probably quite scary 😂😂……also yes the Beatles are from Liverpool and you can’t walk far without something mentioning it 😂😂
      Edit: oh there you go, Stephen Graham who was arguing with David Mitchell (from Would I Lie To You) has a pretty strong scouse accent 😂 Jodie Comer too if you hear her speak naturally.
