I made a similar yarn as the blended one…I called it “urban sidewalk” and knitted a beautiful long scarf for my son. It has a masculine look in my opinion.
I'm using my day off of work to catch up on your videos today, and I really have been loving this color study series. The biggest reason I started following your channel was because of your studies and process videos--that beautiful and brilliant personality has definitely made me stay! Process something I feel isn't always featured on other channels. I think because I'm an illustrator/product designer by profession, it's something I really value when learning new techniques. Process and studies are something that's so overlooked because it takes time (and not a short amount of it!) but it's SO important so one can find the best/favorite result. The added bonus is that it creates 'shortcuts' down the line where we don't have to reinvent the wheel when starting a project. I KNOW how to reach the end result if I've already done a study. Anyways, long winded way to say thanks for being so open with your knowledge and sharing what you've learned along the way. 💛
Thank you so much. It sounds like you get it!! Process is definitely where my heart is, but a lot of these processes take so much time, they're hard to make videos about.
What a great top to play with! Good to have the reminder that there are no spinning police. Have fun and play around. Blending on the carder was not where I thought you were going, but it turned out so lovely. Thanks for sharing the process.
Thank you so much for doing this!! I love all of them. The one you carded would be fabulous as a main color for a colorwork sweater and then pull colors from it for the colorwork section.
Really great seeing all the different ways you can have one top turn out. It's just amazing to me. You have great techniques. Thank you for doing this. I was so confused about fractal's before.
I love how the one you plied using the Turkey hand technique has retained the intensity of the blues in the yarn. The blended one would work really well with a textured pattern like cables, or lace, it reminds me of the way some of the Shetland yarns look.
I love all of them, but the drum carder one is definitely more subtle. This was so cool and informative! I've been trying to spin a malabrigo braid and it's driving me nuts. I think I'm going to drum card it before I do anymore.😉😅
Thank you for doing that. As a new spinner you both showed me a number of ways to spin fiber and also how they look when plied and knitted up too. I really appreciate all he time you put into this demo.
It is so amazing to see them all lined up and how different they all look. I saved a screen shot of the 8 knit swatches with notes for reference to be more intentional about the technical aspects of my spin to get a desired effect.
This was incredibly interesting. It makes me want to buy the same top and try all the methods. They are all really appealing. I didn't think the blended one would be as nice as it was. Thanks for doing the video. I will be watching it repeatedly.
I have to learn the turkey ply method as I always end up with spun fleece left over from plying . I have watched both vids and at this moment cannot pick which I like most they're all beautiful
Ooooooh I love the 2-ply fractal for knitting. In crochet, my favourite might actually be the split single, I love the little patches of colour rather than rows. Which stitch is used would greatly change the shape of those colour patches, too...
I agree. I thought about how tough it is to represent in a swatch because changing stitches would change the look, but I figured something is better than nothing for representation
@@FiberLoveDiary yes, absolutely. Plus when you've used a stitch for a while you start to get a feeling for how the colour behaves on it, but having references like this helps see how the colours play out together
So cool to see the differences. Thank you so much for also crocheting samples…I feel like it gets forgotten a lot when people swatch for colours but they each make such difference fabrics. Now I know that I need to turkey hand ply more often to experiment because that was the one that spoke to me most of all the combos. Although I did love the heathered single a lot. It would be interesting to see it with lighter colours.
Crochet is kind of tough because changing up the stitches would change what it looks like more than changing knit stitches. I figured something simple is better than nothing crocheted 🤷🏼♀️
I LOVED this. New to spinning. Am an indie dyer. But so excited about all the color possibilities. Bought my first undyed top to throw some color on soon!!
I love this color study! I'm brand new to spinning, so I've only started to think about how to manipulate colors through blending and/or plying to achieve different effects in the finished fabric. Thank you so much!
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this. It helps to picture the finished yarn at the end of a spin. This makes me want to spin more intentionally.
Really appreciate all the time and effort you put into this, it's so nice seeing them all laid out and realizing I like the singles and chain ply best. I haven't done much chain plying since I killed my Nano, it's nowhere near as easy for me on my ladybug.... might have to invest in an EEL 6.
I really enjoyed this. I love the 3rd knitted swatch. The drum carder batt looked like the painted desert until you spun it, then knit up it looked like camouflage.
This study is soo cool! This is my biggest issue with spinning there are more options that you can shake a fist at! You have spin one braid 100 ways and deciding which to do is really hard sometimes :( I have 300g of the same fibre and the rainbow of sari silk throughout the black fibre is going to need some testing to see what looks the best for sure!
Lovelovelove this! I chain-plied mine, but was wishing I had done more of a study on it. Thank you for posting this, and doing all the swatches. The direct chain-ply and the turkey hand are my favorite of these!
SO very cool!!! I definitely am inspired to try this myself. I find with my spinning, more often than not, the knitted fabric looks very different from what I think it will. Always an exciting surprise! You did an incredible job showcasing so many different methods of handling and spinning the fiber and the finished swatch comparisons brought the entire study home! Thoroughly enjoyed and I’m appreciative of all the time and energy you put into it. Thank you!!! (your fur kids are so stinkin’ cuteeeeeeee 🥰)
Very cool and a great way to see all the possibilities from different styles of splitting, spinning and plying. I am looking forward to getting into it as someone who also loves knitting, crocheting, and just textiles in general. Very informative and helpful. 👍👍👍👌chefs kiss 👏
This was breathtaking. Also the exciting tension when it looked as if Luther’s tail would go into the twist! Thanks for this. It was a lot of work, and zi so appreciate it!!
I am surprised on how these all turned out when knitted. I really love how the 2 ply turkeyhand turned out. Reminds me of an oil slick and is so pretty.
It's so cool to see how all of those different techniques turned out. My faves are the fractals and turkey hand. The blended one isn't for me, but I can see its potential and the colors were still pretty though more subtle.
Very interesting, thanks. I’m one of those people that do like the final blended heather result. I like all of them though, it’s a lovely colour scheme.
This is such a good project. Imagine if the colors were more vibrant to begin with. You’d get some very fascinating optical blending. These colors are perfect for fall. I like the heathered sample as well… the closer you look, the more the colors reveal themselves. ❤️
Great follow up video! Love it when a big topic is broken down like this. Also…. I struggle with plying. I can chain ply, but I don’t feel as if I’m getting balance. I am right handed and I’ve always “chained” with my left hand. I wonder if I would do better using my right hand? Hmmmmmm.
This was such a cool color study and I loved seeing the swatches together at the end and the differences. I can't decide which is my fav but I guess it might just depend on the project and what you are after. I do really love the 3 ply fractal spin and the fades on the chain ply and turkey hand plies. I will definitely be returning to this video in the future for reference.
YES!!! This GREAT! Sooo much work you did. It is an amazing sampling tool you are sharing here. Lot's to say about each sample, but for just one idea.......I have a feeling that blend might look really nice as a background in a mosaic with one of the colors in a high value version in the foreground. Even a creamy white might work for high contrast. I'm definitely going to try something like this. Many Thanks for this color study:))))
Really enjoyed this study. Thanks. I just finished dying and blending a similar colourway, and it too has come out quite heathered and “muddy”. I don’t know if I’m overly excited about it either 🤣🤣 But interesting 😬
It's always amazing how different yarns can come for the same top.
Love how your fur babies want to be part of the process.
They are always everywhere I go 😂

I am just bingeing on all your videos while I sit and practice my shirt backward draw.....love them!
Thank you so much, and welcome!!
I would never have recognized that the bold colored fiber could result in such subtle yarns. Thank you for this!
I was surprised too. This experiment gave me a lot of time to look at the colors and figure out why so I think it'll help me in my dyeing.
What a great top to play with! Good to have the reminder that there are no spinning police. Have fun and play around. Blending on the carder was not where I thought you were going, but it turned out so lovely. Thanks for sharing the process.
Thanks for watching!
Love seeing how just little changes can make such a difference in the end result. Thanks so much for doing these fun experiments!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for doing this!! I love all of them. The one you carded would be fabulous as a main color for a colorwork sweater and then pull colors from it for the colorwork section.
Well that was fun :) and the dog in the bed is hilarious...especially your comparison. My brain went to... "fat guy...in a little coat" LOL
We sing that to each other sometimes. We also compare him to Chris Farley so the time🤣

Really great seeing all the different ways you can have one top turn out. It's just amazing to me. You have great techniques. Thank you for doing this. I was so confused about fractal's before.
It is amazing. I'm so glad you included crochet in your sample.
I know I haven't always done that. I don't crochet that often but I'm capable so why not?
Oh wow, that knitted turkey two ply is just gorgeous 😍
I think so too!
Trish gotta tell you how much I love you and your channel! I feel like you’re one of my besties fibre friends!! Keep being your beautiful self
You're the best!

All these yarns were so much prettier than in the top. I’m encouraged to try some more complex color combos. ❤
This was such a great series to do. Color management is my BIGGEST hangup with multicolored fiber, this was so helpful!
I remember opening the package and groaning, but after spinning it, I loved it. Yours are all beautiful and interesting.
Thanks so much!
This is a very co ol study in how the spin makes a difference
Great experiment It still screams big comfy scrappy sweater with all the different ways intermingled
I made all the squares a similar size so I can put them all together.
❤love how each different ways you can spin the fibre. And the colours.thank you.
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you for doing that. As a new spinner you both showed me a number of ways to spin fiber and also how they look when plied and knitted up too. I really appreciate all he time you put into this demo.
Thanks for sharing this color study! I will definitely recommend this series to the next person who says to me: “how should I spin this braid?”
It is so amazing to see them all lined up and how different they all look. I saved a screen shot of the 8 knit swatches with notes for reference to be more intentional about the technical aspects of my spin to get a desired effect.
Wow. Some amazing differences. Thank you for the time you spent to show us.
Your new pup seems to be right at home. ❤
He is really fitting into the pack. I think he wanted that. We did
My favorite is the two ply fractal but I would be happy with a sweater or socks from any of these.

That's why I originally learned it. I use a different method of I have s lot to ply. It's nice to use that last little bit after plying
So amazing how differrent they all turned out from the same fiber! Thanks for sharing with us! Have a great trip!!
Now I want to do that lol! Really fascinating when it’s broken down like that, thank you Trish!

I think the chain ply is still my favourite.
It makes s nice round yarn to work with
I am surprised on how these all turned out when knitted. I really love how the 2 ply turkeyhand turned out. Reminds me of an oil slick and is so pretty.

I’m going to have to try fractal spinning for knitting. Thanks for all your work.
Please do!
Very interesting Trish. Some I liked a lot and I wish we could have seen the blended one in person. Anyway, good job!!!
Thanks again for a very informative video! A lot of things that I as a newbie to spinning probably wouldn't have thought about.
The blended one reminds me of water on oil, but I must say I really like all of them. Much love and big hugs xxx
This is fascinating! Thanks so much for doing all this work and sharing it with us!
The perfect video, I will be making socks using this technique, iv learnt so much from all your videos thank you

So interesting to see the difference in using different technics! Thank you and enjoy your trip!
One day I want to try that turkey ply. I think I like the 2 ply’s the best. It also could be because that is all I’ve done too.
Wow that is amazing. The results would depend on what project it would be used for. Great.
The last one reminds me of a Peace Fleece colorway. Subtle but it pops in the outdoor light.
Waaaaw, great job. It is interesting to see the differences. My favourite is the 2 ply fractal
Love this episode…educational!

I like it too, but I knew it wouldn't be for everybody. I just really like a heather with all those colors in it ❤
I am really enjoying this video. I hope to see more like this in the future.
