I really enjoy looking at lovely objects. Plus I get to learn about antiques.
I’d enjoy midweek videos on other antique groups, European/US furniture, militaria etc

The Dreweatts dragon robe was bought in China in 1912 - the first year of the Republic. I felt it was possibly sold by redundant member of the palace staff to fund their retirement. I am told by a collector that the colours indicate it would have been used only once a year, at the harvest ceremony in Spring, so would never have received much use. It also lay untouched in the original box until a few months ago.

In addition to ridiculous buyers premiums, houses have started adding ridiculous processing fees!!!!

A very valuable Ming fish jar with carps, that was stolen in the Mariemont museum in Belgium in april has been recovered. The thieves negotiated with the museum a ransom price of 2 million euros. Unfortunately they also broke the cover, so that the jar lost much of its value.

Do you ever reach out to the auction houses to voice your opinion on fakes? Are you going to inform the house regarding the vase you showed? Thanks for your guidance!!

I have on a few occasions, and as was the case with an auction house in Georgia their attorneys sent me a Cease and Desist letter with threats of litigation. I posted that on a blog several years ago. I did nothing and they went away. I had one auctioneer in NY State who called me threatened to come to Gloucester and kill me, he never showed up despite my encouragement for him to stop by the office any day from 9 to 5. and so it goes.

@@PeterCombs Wow!!! How awful. It shows not all is ethical in the auction world. But I'm proud of you for your proactive efforts!

How the comission works? ?? Let's take 1000£ incl buyers premium for example , on 30% is that mean owner of the lot only got 400£ in the end?? ??
Is that 30% goes both ways?

Peter, I watch you every week and have to respectfully disagree with your comment on selling handbags and sneakers. Just because it doesn't interest you and doesn't fall under the category of antique doesn't mean that it isn't valuable. Some of those handbags and sneakers are one of a kind pieces that are literally considered investment grade. Now, NFTs are a joke, but if it isn't an antique, it doesn't mean it isn't worth buying or consigning at an auction

100% one man's 'trash' is another's treasure. Plus taking into account trends, supply and demand, etc.
Though me personally I'm more about the ceramics.

I can understand your point, however for me...it would be like if Cartier starting to sell Oil Wells or Cobalt mines. Yeah they have value, but for me Value alone should not be a driving consideration but just one element. On the topic of selling handbags for the ne'er-do-well Nouveau riche I just find them in general tasteless. As for sneakers, there are plenty of outlets for Sports Memorabilia. All of that said, I'm old fashioned..and I do not believe selling this kind of stuff does any good for the reputations of Christie's or Sotheby's and actually lessens their respective images.
