Intrigued by the parcel-gilt bronze mirror, I looked up the word "xiniu". It is a mythical creature resembling an antelope but with a single horn. It's often shown looking at the moon (maybe the mirror represents the moon?). But in modern Chinese, "xi niu" means "rhinoceros"! Peter, you always encourage me to learn more about Chinese art and ceramics. Thank you!

Perhaps porcelain should, in the inimitable words of Robin DiAngelo, “strive to be less white”. I remember a protester outside of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art chanting “no white art!”. I assume she meant artists - either that or she had it in for Titanium and Zinc.
