That big musket type ball may well be from what they started using in around the 1740's called cannisters, which was basically like a big baked bean tin filled with those balls, shoved in a cannon and fired, it was like a huge shotgun shell peppering the enemy. The Government forces used those against the Jacobites at the battle of Culloden in 1746 up here in the Highlands of Scotland which is about the time they started using them. Great finds well done. 👍🏻👍🏻 I'd be well pleased with half or even a quarter of that. That Roman Constantine is a beaut 👍🏻
Thank you so much for that information mate, thats just the kind of thing I had in mind, and definitely too big to be a musket ball.
I really appreciate your time watching my video mate, and thank you for commenting 👌👍
My uncle told me a story…
Back in’t 80’s him and a pal went detecting. He was swinging the detector and his pal was on digging duty.
They kept getting fantastic signals but they never found anything when digging (back then there wasn’t any pinpointer) anyway, he went home for tea and his dad asked if he found owt so he told him the story..
His dad said, “was you wearing those boots lad🥾🥾”
He said “yea why?”
“They’re steel toes lad!” 😂😆🤣
🤣🤣 definitely not the best choice of footwear for the hobby lol 😆.
Thanks for that 👍
Fantastic day out there Dan, you must feel absolutely blessed to have such a fruitful permission. Always a pleasure watching you videos and thank you for sharing ❤😊👍
I am so grateful for the permission I have mate 🙏🙌. I was only thinking the other day, how I've been on there for a few years now, and those fields still have so much to give and they manage to surprise me every time I go there. Its such an incredible place. I just wish I knew what went on there.
Thank you very much for watching buddy 😀 😊
Thanks for the video Dan. Wow your so fortunate to have such good permissions and places to hunt. Amazing finds mate.👍🏻 many thanks Alan from North Wales
Hi Alan 👋, believe it or not, I only have the one permission, which consists of about 12 field, totaling around 200 acres maybe. I am so grateful to have such an amazing place to search with such incredible history in the ground 🙌👌.
Thank you so much for watching mage 😁👍
@@DiggerDanMetalDetecting one permission! That’s amazing with the whole finds you dig up. Great videos Dan take care mate
Well done Dan, some lovely finds 👏Another fibula brooch, not jealous at all 🤣🤣
Hahaha sorry kirsty, I seem to have a lot of luck when it comes to fibula brooches lol 😆. You'll find yours soon, I'm sure 🤞🤞.
Great finds! One of your best episodes I’ve seen far, I think. The ring looks very Art Deco to me, probably from the 1920’s or ‘30’s.
What a day, stuff of legends. I'm sure you have someone to sieve that soil before you get there lol. Well done as always.
I'm hoping that the only person sieving that soil, is me haha 😄 😆. It is beautiful to dig though mate 👌.
Thanks for watching my friend 😁
Just truly amazing finds Daniel and well done on Saxon so happy for you 👍👌❤️
Thank you very much mate 👍 😀
Outstanding finds! This was the kind of day you will definitely remember for years and makes up for maybe a couple of frustrating outings where nothing was happening. Well done! And thanks for bringing us along!
Thank you very much, I certainly won't forget this one in a hurry 👌😉.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
That was epic watching you rediscover all that Romen history brother 🤘 thanks for sharing and congrats on the awesome history saved!!!
Happy Hunting 🍀
For me, pigeons dropping heavy on ripe corn 'rings my bell'; start of another season not far distant. Soil is bliss, 'til rain starts to....hiss😉. That Const' bronze is a Praetorian commemorative coin Dan. There is the un-mistakeable depiction of the 'Castra Praetoria' on it's reverse. Keep tight hold of it, they aren't overly common mate, especially in fine condition. It' a flippin' beaut, for certain!!! Nice fib and ring too! Well found and rescued 👍👍
Thank you very much for the information mate, much appreciated 👍 😀
you smashed it mate , that plough certainly sorted that field out for you its like a new permission again ,, thanks for the great vid again ,
Definitely bough up a whole heap of new signals mate. The amount of big 30 and 40 signals is surprising, so I think they've ploughed pretty deep too 👍.
Thanks for watching buddy 😀
Pozdrav kolega,izuzetni nalazi,veoma dobar video,svako dobro🤠🍀👍
Thank you very much for watching my friend 😁 👍
What a fantastic day anyone of your finds would have been a good day likeing the roman coins and broch
Thank you buddy, much appreciated 🙏
Great dig, Dan! That glass piece looks like a Greek evil eye protection charm. Saw a bunch of them when we were in Santorini.
Just looked that up mate, and yes, it looks just like one of those 👍. How strange 🤔, I wander how it got out there? Maybe off the farmers keyring or something.
Thanks for watching and for the info mate 👍
What a glorious days digging, a day we all wish we could have 😝 your videos keep us going buddy 😝 😆 well done 😊
Cheers Bob mate, it was I day to remember, thats for sure 👍.
Thanks for watching buddy 😊
Nice selection of finds mate, cracking Hod Hill brooch.....👍👍
Thank you very much mate 👍. Do you think it is a hod hill type? I'm still unable to find one like it online 🤔. Thank you for watching
Beautiful Roman brooch, stunning Roman coin 😃 and lovely buckle smashing days detecting well done Dan 😀😀
Thank you very much 😊
Wow what a day you had , my finds mmmm in tubs , bags and boxes must get round to sorting them someday cracking video 👍👍
Thank you mate😊. I really need the get a proper display cabinet for my finds. My shelf I have is getting a little full and untidy 🤦♂️.
Thank you for watching buddy, and good luck sorting through your finds 👍
What a cracking day Dan. Reploughing a field
Give a usually new life to a field this was
Ekstraordinært good. Fibula is roman
Inspired type. In Denmark we called the
Time period younger German iron age
500-800 ad saxxon came to England
From Holsten part of Denmark until
1864. So it could be a saxxon find.
Romans closed down earlier in England
But theres a time slip. Really nice Tudor
Buckel, pity the ring is mended, should
Be easy for a Silver expert to fix Gongrats
To 3K about time😜🔝❤️
Thames you very much for the info, and for watching buddy, much appreciated 👍 😀
Super , jolies trouvailles une fois de plus 👍
Thank you very much mate 👍 😀
To many great finds to list love them all lol😅 little buckle my favourite
Haha thank you for watching buddy, I like that buckle too 😉👍
Such a great days digging there Dan wow so many incredible saves the Roman plate brooch that plated silver ring those Roman coins what a day and well done mate and thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Certainly a day that won't be forgotten in a hurry mate. Still amazes me just how much those fields still have to give 😲.
Thank you very much for watching my friend 😁 👍
@@DiggerDanMetalDetecting good lad Dan, and always a great film, that plough was magic bringing it all up eh. A grand days detecting and lots still hiding there in the soil for you Dan 👍🏻
Another great day for you dan fantastic finds mate great video as usual stay lucky 👍
Cheers for watching buddy 😁👍
Brilliant day mate amazing what a plough can do to a field 👏
It makes such a difference to your day, and has bought up so many new signals 👌.
Thank you so much for watching buddy 😀 👍
Some days digging that mate!! Glad your using the buckle and Roman brooch images😊 that brooch is AMAZING
Thank you buddy 😁. Yes those images are very helpful, I've used them a few times already in the field 👌.
Thanks for watching buddy 😀
Amazing dig again Dan. Absolutely smashing it🎉
Thank you buddy 😁👍
That fields being good to. Well done 👍🏻 my permission is still in lake form so may have to wait a bit 😂

Thanks for watching 😁 👍
Fantastic finds.
Thanks buddy, much appreciated 👍
Very very nice roman-coin.. 👍
Thank you very much for watching mate 👍 😀
Like your jewellers Loop
Thank you mate 😁👍
Wow DD, stunning finds indeed!! Though she said that brooch is Roman, it is very like the 5th/6th cent' Cruciform brooches. Maybe the Saxon Guys copied it from the Romans? All the best M8, cheers, John.
Hey John mate. I have to say, I've not managed to find an example like it, and its very unusual for a roman brooch which is why I initially though saxon cruciform 🤔. Think I've still for some research to do on that one, if not I'll have to email my FLO and see what she says.
Thank you for watching and commenting buddy 😀👍
These buckle forks were still used in the 1700's Dan. Great finds!
Thanks for that info mate, I sometimes forget these things when I out in the field, especially when I waffling to myself and the camera lol 😆.
Thanks for watching buddy 👍
@@DiggerDanMetalDetecting You're welcome Dan, love watching your vids
That roman looked as if it's been struck and dropped great detail awesome find, gotta love a rolled field ,great vid again buddy, that field looks way too big for just you, where has Tom disappeared too?👍
That's what I thought mate, such a stunning little coin 👌. Those fields should keep me busy for a while lol 😆. Tom is having a little time out to sort a few things with him. He'll be back before you know it 😉.
Thank you for watching mate
Well done Daniel 👍
Thank you very much for watching mate 👍 😀
What a day my man 🏋🏻♂️
Thank you buddy 😀👍
Spot on Dan mate amazing finds👍if anyone can put you right it's definitely Cheryl 👍👍
Thanks buddy, Cheryl was very helpful and knew straight away what it was 👌.
Thank you for watching buddy 😀
thank's Digger
Thank you for watching 😁 👍
Hi Dan big fan here I know your doing a lot of work with the legend but would you be making any more videos using the simplex cheers
Hi Mark, thank you for watching 😁. I take It you've seen all my simplex videos? There are quite a few 👍. I still have the simplex as my backup machine, but I've not planned on using it unless I have to, as the legend is just that good.
Maybe I'll break it out for a day sometime 😉.
Fresh turned soils attract Pigeons, Crows and detectorists 😅😅😅😅😅
Hahaha I just can't keep away from it. So nice when it's flat and you can get a good swing 😉👍.
Thanks for watching buddy
When Comes to copper or metals that break up easy or not so easy I tend never to use water unless it's blank and was tossed in scrap as I'll only uses a tooth brush or soft clothes to clean anything if it's milled silver that's a trouser wipe 😂
I've never had issues using de ionised water, I give all the delicate stuff a soak overnight in it, and then let dry for a day or so before waxing them 👍
@Digger Dan Metal Detecting definitely man get them shining and that roman was so naughty the detail unreal what a find and that reminds me I need more sealing wax 😂
Hi Dan, Great episode and wow what a fantastic day you had!! loved the Roman coin and brooch!!
Do you have a list of finds and what numbers they are? like hammerds for example? what numbers do they tend to show as? also roman coins...gold? silver?
LAso, do you have a link to the deionised water you use please? so many to choose from!! lol
Many thanks
Tom
Hey buddy, sorry I don't have a list of numbers, but I always call out the vdi numbers in my videos for each find 👍. Hammered are usually in the 20s to early 30s, but I've had smaller ones come in as low as 16.
My gold half sovereigns were both a solid 29. The gold celtic stater was a 38/39 👍.
The deionised water is just the stuff you use for car batteries and ironing etc. This is the one I use groceries.asda.com/product/car-maintenance/car-plan-de-ionised-water/479358?&cmpid=ppc-_-ghs-_--_-google-_--_-dskwid-92700073943831308_dm&s_kwcid=AL!11432!3!621744775339!!!u!1874979835156!&gclid=CjwKCAjwzuqgBhAcEiwAdj5dRp2kt69VGqH3LOlA9SZqWCPBkW0XyygGEcVOw9fiJHHa8b7CXAnABBoCcvkQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Hope that helps mate, thank you for watching 😁 👍
Hi Dan, thank you so much for the information 👍 you are a great help mate!! Looking forward to your next episode
I'm sure you figured out that your glass object is a NAZAR AMULET. Yours is probably very old.
From Wikipedia: "An eye bead or naẓar (from Arabic نَظَر [ˈnaðˤar], meaning 'sight', 'surveillance', 'attention', and other related concepts) is an eye-shaped amulet believed by many to protect against the evil eye.
Thank you very much for the info, I found out about the evil eye after finding it, but never really they went very far back in date. 😊
Have you tried the lg35 coil yet. I wonder how it would go on those fields.
I haven't tried it yet mate. I've not bought it because the land I detect is very busy and full of iron from roman activity. I think it would struggle with the separation of targets if I'm honest, which is why I went with the narrower LG30 👍.
Thank you for watching
A cracking day m8. Can I ask you have you noticed any loss of depth on the 1.11 update as it looks like you have from the last few vids since you updated?
Thanks mate, I've not noticed any lack in depth on 1.11, I've had a few deep targets lately 👍. You've probably noticed it because I've been on cultivated land, which usually, the targets are quite shallow. This is why I've not mentioned anything about depth or lack of.
Thank you for watching mate 👍
Do you change your setting for Ploughed soil and stubble?
Thank you for commenting mate, I have found that my cultivated settings are pretty good all round on arable land. I just tweak the recovery Speed up and down depending on the conditions. Maybe in stubble, I would raise the recovery speed to 6 or 7 just because you aren't covering as much ground and that would help to hit the targets a little sharper 👍.
Hope that helps mate 👍
@@DiggerDanMetalDetecting Thanks Mate where do I find your Cultivated Settings. also some use 2 tone or 6 tone you use 60 tone whats the advantage to that? it not more nosey with all the tones?
any reason why you do not use headphones when searching
Mainly because it is easier for me when filming, rather than having to change the settings so the viewers can hear the targets. I do use the headphones if I'm on organised digs 👍.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Do you ever have a shit day ???
Hahaha 🤣 not for a while mate, but it does happen, honestly 😆.
Thank you for watching mate 👍
