Notwithstanding the above, either party may choose to be excused of any further performance obligations in the event of a disastrous occurrence outside the control of either party, such as, but not limited to: A natural disaster (fires, explosions, earthquakes, hurricane, flooding, storms or infestation); or War, Invasion, Act of Foreign Enemies, Embargo, or other Hostility (whether declared or not); or Any hazardous situation created outside the control of either party such as a riot, disorder, nuclear leak or explosion, or act or threat of terrorism.
Yes thank you! That’s a given I forgot to say this I figured everyone would have this.. but now you should modify it adding to force majeure (usually reserved for natural disasters) OR force of government. (For example what happened with covid19)

I didn’t know where to start with my contract and honestly haven’t really sat down and thought a contract through until watching this video! this was exactly the information I needed! I get stuck with how to properly say things “business” wise, because I’m the artist first. I feel like this is going to take me to the next level of being a professional bridal make up artist for sure! Thank you!
I literally PRAYED & watched travel vlogs this week for a bridal makeup & joked about it doing a client. Surprisingly her bff was there and wants me to do her bridal party 🥺😭💓 look at God. Thank you!!!! for this b/c helping others cost nothing but love 💎 i needed this!
Jen I just found you today (when I searched 'how to decide my fees as a makeup artist') and now it's been 2 hours and I've already watched like 6 videos LOL. As of this last month I have pivoted my career from graphic design to now a makeup artist - although I have been a huge makeup fanatic for 12 years, and go to IMATS every year! - I am starting with some complimentary portfolio sessions for practice (in Austin Texas) and hoping to start charging soon and easing into bridal/weddings. Your videos have helped so much and especially this one. I've taken 3 pages of notes just from watching your videos today!! So THANK YOU!!! My question / might be an idea for an addition to the contract if you don't already have this: What if someone day-of on the spot decides to get their makeup done as well?. For example if a grandmother didnt want her makeup done initially, but on the day of someone convinces her to go for it and they ask if you are available to take one more. If you have the time, do you charge an extra fee (on top of the fee it wouldve been if they had added her from the beginning) because it is a last minute request? And same goes for any other last minute requests like tattoo coverage, groom's acne coverage, or things like that? Thanks so much in advance for your time & all your help! Subscribed and followed!!!
Huh, no one replied. I recently attended a Bride to Business class with @jaliapettis and she clearly advised that due to a scheduled itinerary not to add any last minutes because of many factors: it doesn't stop at one person, if one person sees you did a last minute then they may want you to do their makeup, too, and they are not willing to pay for it, they expect the bride to do it. Therefore it gets complicated. Also, there was no trial run with the last minute person, so they may not appreciate the final makeup application and wants to wash it off, now what? Gets complicated. Now, what I say is weigh out your options, it is up to you, if you have the extra time and you have discussed with the person that is paying you at the end of the "day of" and they agree, then immediately create an addendum to your contract so that they sign it. Do not preform the makeup application until this addendum is signed by the correct person. If you already did the "out of contract" makeup application and they claim not to authorize it, you will be out of that payment. So free services and product giveaway. Like I said, it gets complicated. Good luck.
Am I the only one who started laughing when she mentioned the dogs humping her leg? 😂😂 I have never heard an artist say that in their policy agreement. That is SUPER helpful and this entire video was so refreshing. You are so talented and I love all your videos 🤎
😂 well I don’t have “no dogs humping my leg” I have no pets allowed during time of service lol that was an explanation I gave you guys 🤣 Thank you my love!! 🤗💕
Just watched one of your other bridal makeup videos!! I’m doing my first wedding Sunday doing makeup and I’m a little nervous and want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Your videos help so much! ❤️
Yes so much value. I use square for my contract I have the template I just edit the infos as I go and email it to them and they can sign from the link. Once that’s signed I send over the invoice, with the attached contract, for the deposit which is automatically scheduled with due date for remaining balance the day of the wedding. It also sends them a reminder and my brides usually pay before I even get there.
I have a question. Once you complete the bridal make up let’s say at 2pm. Her lipstick wears off by 5pm. How do you retouch? Also, I purchased aaaallll products that you use in each of your videos, lol, but I can’t find couple items. Kylie so cute and bare, and also buxom Irish coffee. Where do you get yours from? Or what similar would you recommend? Thank you sooooooo much. I love all your videos. You are a big inspiration to me. Janka
Omg what Jaqueline said! Is it possible to get the PDF of what your contract says so we don’t miss a thing? I wrote a lot down in my notes but I’m a visual person and I have yet to find a good example of a contract like yours! I’m sorry if it’s a lot to ask. I’m finally taking this all on my own so I’m super excited to be my own boss but I love to be prepared and this will help me so much! 🤗
Absolutely love your videos hopefully one day I can book an appointment with you !!!! ❤️ you should also include international travel in your contracts as well !!!!
Hi Jen I’m starting my own business as a mua freelancer and I was wondering in regards to the bride asking to stay for a touch up how would you go about that ?
I am finally getting my contract together but I am having trouble with the Covid clause. Can you give advice on what is good to put for the Covid Clause? Please ❤️
I have a 4 page policy and terms that is separate from my contract. In it I also have Right to refuse service clause where I state a number of reasons, not limited to, in which I can refuse service on the day of. I also like to specify the difference between a consultation and a trial. Lots of brides still think these words are interchangeable so I like to make that clear, as well as the allotted expected time for trials.
@@MakeupByJen I really had to come on here and give this little update. I’ve been freelancing for 5 years now. I’ve never had to use the Right to Refuse Service Clause. Just this past weekend that changed. I had to call the police and leave without finishing my service. This was all due to a bridesmaid having a tantrum (yelling, invading my personal space) because she didn’t like the work that another makeup artist did. Once that artist left, the disgruntled bridesmaid took out her anger on me, as if I was somehow responsible. It really ruined the day for the bride, whom I was taking care of. I’m so glad I had my contract to back me up. I wish I never would’ve had to enforce it, but I was legally protected at that moment for leaving without finishing work I was already paid for. For that I’m so grateful. I hope no one ever has to go through a scary moment like that.🙏🏼
This is awesome. Im also a bridal makeup artist and the details you have in your contract will help me. I do have a question and would love your advice. With covid going around these days, do you suggest adding ( of course for you and your clients safety) do you mention anything about testing or taking temperature during your sessions? It’s something that I have been thinking about. Not sure if it’s too much you know.
Thank you my love 🌹 I personally won’t do this just because makeup is not essential so I’m sure people won’t be getting their makeup done while sick with covid with a fever.. Also, taking someone’s temperature is not a guarantee that they don’t have covid19. The majority of the people that I know never had a fever while they had covid. I’m sure everyone is using their logic and common sense that if they feel like they’ve been exposed or feel any flu like symptoms they reschedule their appointments. So far, my clients have been super responsible with this. In addition, they can’t wear ppe because we’re working on their face so I don’t know girl.. it truly makes no sense to me to add this. Kind of feels silly to show up at a bridal suite and start taking everyone’s temperature.. it’s not realistic...do what makes you feel at ease though...
@@MakeupByJen This is true. I thought about all of that as well. Taking temperature when most people don’t have fever as a symptom. However, There are precautions we should take since we are dealing with a group of people at a time. If only there was a way you know. But I appreciate your honest answer and do agree with you. Thank you. Keep doing your thing mama. ❤️
Of course I take my precautions, first of all you let the bride know that you’re not comfortable with having so many people in the room at once, and when you arrive to set up find a corner place with no traffic back and forth and away from everyone in the room. That’s what I’ve been doing along with wearing my mask. Hope that helps xo
Not sure if you have a cancellation policy besides the deposit but having a cancellation policy is a most I learned the hard way when a wedding of 19 services decided to cancel the day before (yes true story) 😩. After that you will be charged 50% of the quoted rate. If you cancel within 7days prior to service date, you will be charged 100% of the quoted rate. This contract is non-negotiable. And of course days and percentage can be changed to fit you. 🤗
My deposit is 50% of the total price love and yes if the wedding is cancelled a week before I have that stated as well but thank you so much! I have a question about payments. I have a potential Bridal client that wants to mail out to My personal address a check. I never receive checks. Client says the check is from her boss as a gift. How would you handle that situation?
@@micheleparker159 well I keep record of my accounting. My revenue, expenses, accounts receivable and then I’m able to determine my net profit. I have a business credit card and I run all business expenses on there. Therefore if irs ever needs any proof I can just pull up my credit card statements.
@@MakeupByJen okay that makes sense thanks! Do you have to fill out a form or anything when you do your taxes? And do you have to have a business license? Sorry for all of the questions lol. No one ever makes videos like this and it’s super helpful! So thanks so much!
You have to go to an accountant love not just any tax preparer.. they’ll guide you through all of the forms he or she will be submitting! I don’t have a license or certification because I didn’t go to cosmetology school I’m self taught. In nyc you don’t have to be certified or licensed to be a professional makeup artist. Check in your city or state that may differ! My pleasure love I’ll try to make a video on the business of makeup talking about all of this.. soon 🎥
What about kids ? Don’t get me wrong I love kids and I have two of my own. But I’ve had situations where clients bring their kids to their appointments and their kids are jumping in my couch, touching all of my house things and I even had a child break my candle and LED ring light. To the point where the mother sees but doesn’t say anything.
I had a kid break one of my eyeshadow palettes also, the mother (my client) didn’t even offer to pay for it so I put no kids/no pets policy on my contract the moment I finished working that wedding. It’s also dangerous for the kids because I have sharp objects such as scissors so they grab that hurt themselves and then that will ruin the day for everyone. Definitely no kids/pets around makeup artist working area!
@@MakeupByJen yes ! I feel like some people find it rude lol but I mean it’s common sense. What would you do if a bride booked you for a regular glam.. trying to escape the trial charge and then message you saying that she wants to cancel the trial after explaining to her why it’s more for the trial and wants to go back to a natural glam and pay that cost? Very undeceive…
I also include the following:

Check in your city or state that may differ! My pleasure love I’ll try to make a video on the business of makeup talking about all of this.. soon 🎥
Plz make the video how you sanitise the product.
Cleaning and disinfecting products video is coming soon 🎥
thank you for all this information!
My pleasure 💕

ESO ESTA BUENO PARA NOSOTRAS
Waiting for that indian/Pakistani bridal vedio
If you’re referring to the makeup look I just posted on Instagram unfortunately it was not filmed due to clients wishes love ☹️
