    14:00 Key - getting your lizard brain to shut up long enough to overcome resistance.
    15:15 The hardest part is getting started.
    15:55 Make a rule - if you start something, then you finish it. This implies that you have to be extremely selective about what to start. Have all possible arguments with the lizard brain in the beginning. But once you start, no arguments at all. Only doing.
    My Learning from 15:55
    You do the thinking in between iterations(after they are over), not during them. Execute ruthlessly after starting.
    Iteration->Reflect->Iteration->Reflect->Iteration->Reflect
    Set up OKR system to measure progress

      HerHealthySelf he's a self serving ape. check out wim hof. there's a difference between persuasion and conviction. persuasion involvez tricks, like throwing a water balloon in the audience. conviction is backing up what you say with physical proof.

    Ship on time and on budget. By shipping when it's done or if any one of the prior things run out.
    Lizard brain will come up with reasons. Therefore take the time initially to think and plan. Once you start, you will SHIP at all costs.
    Try getting ideas and breaking your idea initially and early on, not near ship date. As long as you ship/finish things you are making progress.

    One interesting thing about pharmacology, Most stimulant medications actually suppress the lymic system, they allow for a much smoother mind. In bi-polar, the limbic system is in overdrive constantly. Causing the high ups and downs associated with it. Where as Anti-Social Personality disorder Aka Psychopath show signs of a damage or poorly working limbic system.

    We are created to do the work, created for connection and love, full of creativity ourselves. Our brains develop, not just in-utero, but throughout childhood and adolescence. Executive reasoning, the full range of being able to consider far reaching repercussions and consequences, reaches peak performance during our early to mid twenties. If we can guard it and not allow digital dementia to take over, we can ship more and better and change the world for good. Thanks, Seth Godin for shipping and thanks 99u for sharing this video. BTW for me is back to work! :-)

      I think you may have the long reach of intellect, regarding ages, a bit backwards. I find that wisdom often comes with age, and wisdom is being able to to apply knowledge in a way that the after effects are what you want them to be because you have more experience to draw upon to see further into the horizon with. The prime requisites for wisdom are, one, PAYing attention and two, experience. Experience doesn't necessarily mean age, _but_ age allows one, by definition, to draw from more experience of life. Now, if you've lived a boring, sheltered and unexamined life, you probably won't end up with much wisdom to draw from no matter your age. I hope you understand what I'm saying.

    • @bryfryable
      @bryfryable 6 років тому +1

      And it will always continue to ruin your life if you continue to blame it, instead of owning up and blaming the person who actually made the final choice.
      People can still make choices even while being in a tough emotional state that is telling them to do something else. Army men have proved this time and time again. Despite the fear of death which we all have, they still fight.
      Despite going through any type of feelings, we all can still choose to do the opposite of what those feelings are telling us to do. It all comes down to whether or not a person is willing to go through the pain of not choosing what the mind wants.
      You, me, and everyone still have a choice.

  • @FingersKungfu
    @FingersKungfu 7 років тому +11

    This is all fault, deploringly bad, untenable metaphor. Real artists don't have to "ship," only merchants do. This is why consumerist America is full of pseudo artists to the brim. Everyone has different reasons for going into writing. I don't know why bad writers want to write in the first place. For someone who wants to be a writer, one of the essential step is to discard the teachings of a consumerist guru. In the 19th Century, writers like Dickens or Elliot had relationship with their readers (consumer) because the standard and demand of great writing was high and that pushed the writers' aesthetic quality even further. Now books, if they are still read at all, will need to entertain; and there are no good readers out there anymore. Great writers like Kafka never wanted just to ship. Go read his diaries. His only existence was to be a midwife to a story that could stand the test of time.
    This kind of consumerist-guru teaching only helps encourage bad writers and dumbs down the remaining pool of readers even more. Literature is dying because the market is inundated by poor writings that exist only to entertain. I hope great writers out there will continue to work on their art. They know who they are; they seem to exist on a different dimensional plane. Most of them don't write in English which has become a language of consumerist literature.

    • @LucasSommer
      @LucasSommer 7 років тому +9

      thucydides Neo real artists always ship otherwise it's just a hobby. If you can't ship your art the public can't experience it and it's purpose is lost. All the great artists in history shipped their work constantly... that's what makes them great.

    • @Biggyfication
      @Biggyfication 7 років тому +3

      Thucydides Your words are big but empty and lacking in wisdom. Everyone gets doubt before shipping, those writers were no different than you my friend, they probably experienced more doubt and resistance because they had achieved a level in society so difficult to maintain. They don't exist on a different dimensional plane. That's very stupid. They're people.
      It doesn't make you look smart to tell people what you think they can't do, it actually makes you sound like a chicken. Try quieting your lizard brain and your rambling comment will start to make less sense to you, I promise. He gave you the knowledge to do that, use it first before trying to sound like you know what you're talking about.

    • @j3ffn4v4rr0
      @j3ffn4v4rr0 5 років тому +1

      This is *not* about consumerism....Godin is very importantly restating in different words Steven Pressfield's concept of Resistance, which is a challenge to overcome for artists of all types and levels of ability.
